History of United East African Nations

On February 1974, Haile Selassie I stepped down from his government position and a new constitution was written. The constitution was based on the United States Constitution, and the following year, 1975, an election took place. Mengistu Gidada, of the Democratic Party of Ethiopia, won the election and started a mass amount of reforms. President Gidada improved relations with the United States and boosted the economic.

On July 1977 President Gidada successful pushed the Somalians out of Ogaden with easy and stopping a war from happening. During that same year President Gidada ended the Rebel War with the Eritrean People's Liberation Front by giving Eritrea autonomy.

Through the 80's Ethiopia experienced a calm and peace life style during ending years of the Cold War.

On 1 January 1991 Somalia's Government imploded and a Civil War not far from happening, so the Ethiopia quickly rushed in and stopped anarchy from tearing apart the country. They held a fair election and brought in a firm and fair leader. Though in 1994 in a Nationwide vote Somalia and Ethiopia to join together to form one new nation, the United East African Nations. Djibouti saw the progress of the UEAN and joined in 1997. On March 22, 1997 a new Constitution was written for the four nations and the UEAN that we know today was created. After the Constitution, all the ties to the former countries were cut and the UEAN declared themselves neutral. Their neutrality even still stands toady.
