Shardstorm Anti Aircraft Missile
Weapon Type: Surface to Air Missile
Role: High Altitude AA weapon (5,000 ft + or 1,500 m +)
Max Altitude: 54.3 miles or ~90 k/m
Velocity: 1,500 ft/s or ~454.5 m/s
Max Velocity: 4,500 ft/s or ~ 1363.5 m/s

Shardstorm was designed as a high altitude AA weapon designed for indirect fire against stealth spy or attack aircraft. The warhead is set to go off at a predetermined altitude that shatters the weapon sending shards of metal into the surounding area over a large radius. The debris damages the craft and may get caught in exhaust ports and necesary flight equipment (alerons, etc) or reduce the target to rubble. Addtionally, chaff is released with the burst effectively disableing guidance and radar systems in the target.

Shrapnel from the weapon's detonation burns up in the atmosphere before it settles to earth on the way down. Recent tests of unarmed rockets have reached as high as the Mesosphere but we are confident that with the proper mixture of fules and other tweaking the weapon may soon reach up to sub-orbital levels, giving it the ability to reach even the highest flying aircraft.

We invite other nations interested in the development of this weapon to share research data and studies to aid in the perfection of what we beleive will be a potent weapon.

People's of the world. I would like it to be known that such technology is only being developed for the nations defense, and as a stepping stone to a hopeful and eventual course into space travel and exploration. Any nation who aids in our reasearch will be provided with the plans for our designs from concept to completion and the blueprints for our working Shardstorm Missiles.

Dear Saint Bernard I,

Once you have completed research on this weapon, the Dominicath Empire would be interested in purchasing three-hundred units to protect our larger cities. We cannot assist in research, for our scientists are too busy with other endeavours. We do, however, wish you good luck with the weapon.

The private investors of Axe & Hammer Industries wish to purchase production rights to the new Shardstorm-class Anti-Aircraft missile, and would also like to assist in the joint developement of a better class of anti-aircraft missile that would hopefully be able to achieve sub-orbital levels. This purchase of rights will only be in the interest of defending our production facilities and research centers, and will not be used for resale purposes.

Once this has been completed representitives from The Kingdom of SaintB will be prepared to enter negotiation.
Furthermore, we will gladly accept the offer of help in the final stages of developement for Shardstorm if you truly decide to help. We will be arranging a meeting with engineers from the nation of Fire Helper and your esteemed corperation as soon as is convieninet for ourselves.

We will gladly and humbly accept your offer of a joint operation for the continued developement of Shardstorm technology. We in the Kingdom of SaintB will be contacting you soon for meetings between our top developers to discuss the intracasies of our systems and our future plans for this technology. We earnestly hope and beleive that a partnership between SaintB, Firehelper, and Axe and Hammer Industries will be the mix needed to complete this project. If you truly decide to commit yourself to this project you will own blueprints and production rights for Shardstorm in its completed form for use as you see fit.

To Angaor
All entities that participate in the Shardstorm project will have rights of production for the most advanced stage of the warhead upon project completion (this is regardless of whether or not we hit sub-orbital ranges). We in the Kingdon of SaintB glady extend you the invitation to meet with our scientist and represenitives from the other nations involved in this multinational project when a date and time has been set. If you would like production rights for the missile in its current form we can come to the negotiations table to discuss a price.

We are please to hear someone else has taken a vested interest in non-Direct impacts AA system. We have long been one of the sole users of the systems and are surprised that not many nation utilized such an effective system. you may or may not of heard of our H.A.E.B.S. system or High Altitude EMP Based SAM. Instead of using shrapnel you use a large EMP pulse / Flak combo that will kill an aircraft without even damaging it. Giving us an element of fear and unknown danger. We would be interested in a joint development operation with you if you are interested.

What is the main difference between your proposed system's actual warhead and conventional fragmentation warheads commonly found on surface-to-air and air-to-air missiles currently in service throughout the world?
-Marshall A. Walker III

While most missiles rely on a direct target aquisition, Shardstorm does not. The system was designed to be used against stealth, and spy aircraft that are hard to detect because of design or air curtain. It is an inderect firing weapon much like flack guns are; it works by estimating the targets location, vector, alltitude, and trajectory then firing along the determined flightpath filling the air with flack and chaff for meters around. The flack damages the target aircraft and the chaff has the effect of jamming radar and guidance systems which can cause the plane to loose vector or even crash. The shrapnel and flack damage the target even in an indirect hit and may get caught in necesary flight gear such as intake, which is also very damaging or fatal.

What is the method the missile would use for estimating the targets location, vector, altitude, and trajectory? Surely it is not RADAR, since it is designed to be used against stealth aircraft, is it? Also will the missiles be sufficiently inexpensive to allow saturation of a given section airspace? How big will the flak/chaff cloud be? Many military aircraft are going to be traversing 500 meters every second, or more. At this point I am envisioning what you describe as a massive missile that would be to the Patriot what the MOAB is to the JDAM.
Atomic anti aircraft weapons seem an easier way to get the desired effect you are after.

Thats where I plan to come in. As a joint venture in this project we will be learning about the shrapnel projectile functions, but also educating in the field of Avionic EMP track and detection systems. The missile will have on borad computers that will have a constant transimission that will be feed from ground positions that are equiped with DOMAR ( EMP Dome detection systems) the DOMAr will send out a constant pulse that is to weak to be any affect to electrical systems but also powerful enough to travel a distance in a dome formation covering ground and high air targets. Once an object has appeared in the DOMAR an operator will Id the shape of the air craft and compare the shape to a known database. If the shape is not IDed as friendly a missile is send and the DOMAR gives it constant tracking data.
