(OOC: I'm back. Though I might not be as active as I was. This is mostly to set up what happened to my nation while I was gone (I kinda left in the middle of a civil war) so if I want to continue RPing in the summer I can. All PMT nations are free to respond, the defining nature of my nation is that 99% of the inhabitants over 24 years old have an implant which allows them to access the internet (or while we were cut off, a local intranet) at all times. An unforeseen consequence of this is that people can be "hacked". 20 years before the time this starts two cities were almost entirely hacked in this way, the military responded by attempting to retake the cities, this proved too bloody, and in the end, an EMP was used on both cities. Because of the implants, this was instantly deadly for many, caused more to become invalids, and caused insanity in many people connected to the web when the bombings occurred. The nation was taken over by a large corporation, that is now rather like the mob, the entire private sector, and the defacto government in one. The military assets mentioned are from an RP that kind of died while I was in it. A nation was being divvied up and we took a small island off it's coast as a staging area for a relief effort. Well those guys were kinda trapped when the war broke out, so I'd like to make them into a separate entity, seems reasonable considering the shift of ideologies that has occurred since they were citizens.)
Yui Kusanagi gazed into the cameras filling the official press chamber of the old senate compound. She brushed a stray hair from the otherwise immaculate gray business suit, and re-rehearsed what she was going to say in her mind. She was about to make the first speech to the outside world since the horrible events that had almost lead to a civil war 20 years before, the truth was, the ailing nation could have really used some help during those years, but organizing the money and people needed to repair the communications hub had been impossible until recently. Suddenly a high pitched scream, like a thousand voices at once, ripped through her skull. Instinctively she covered her ears, but the true source was the implant that connected her to the nation's mainframe. She mentally cursed herself for not shutting her connection down like she had ordered everyone else with a working implant to do a month ago as a safety precaution. She steadied herself for a moment, then mentally gave the order for the cameras to start.
"Nations of the world, The Confederacy of Free Shepmagans requests the reopening of diplomatic relations with the countries it formerly knew, and with any new ones that have come to power since it ceased communications twenty years ago. We would also inquire about the status of our overseas military assets and missing compatriots, if any nation has information regarding them, please respond immediately. We require new military hardware as well, and trading partners, as our supplies of wood and reserves of petroleum were heavily depleted during our silence." ~ Depleated?~ She thought grimly, ~ Petroleum is practically nonexistant!~. "We are not prepared to accept foreign dignitaries at this time, due to concerns about lodgings, please direct all responces in the form of radio, fax, or fiber optic signals. Thank you. "
With that, she turned from the camera and exited the room, she could only hope that her calls wouldn't attract the ire of a more militarily powerful nation, the last thing this country needed was a war.
(to be continued tomorrow)
