"Century" Series Combat Weapon Family (Individual Weapon)
Note: Thanks to Russkya for the write-up.

Aequatian Military Industries had been developing a number of "modular" assault rifle and battle rifle designs for several years with none of them coming to fruition until the "Century" series of combat weapons. Dubbed "Century" due to the Aequatian military designations of G100, G101, G102, G105 and G106, the intent was to increase weapon commonality through flexibility in design. For example, while the G100's long barrel may be of great use to a soldier in an Infantry unit operating in Alpine terrain, it is more of a liability for a soldier operating as part of a Mechanized Infantry unit where the G101's shorter barrel would be more appropriate.

Two different calibers further distinguish the "Century" series from one another. While G105 and G106 are chambered for the heavy 8.5x60mm ARAM-H round, the other three weapons of the family are chambered for the smaller 6.5x55mm ARAM-CJ (Copper Jacketed) and ARAM-KF (Kinetic, Fragmentation) cartridges.

All rifles use the same operating mechanism, a slightly modified version of the system used by the German Heckler und Koch G-36 series assault rifles. This consists of a short-stroke gas piston located above the barrel, operating the rectangular bolt carrier featuring a rotating bolt with seven locking lugs. The bolt carrier rides on a single guide rod with the return spring located around the guide rod itself, which makes the swapping of upper reciever and barrel combinations a very simple matter. The gas valve (Either manually adjustable or optionally self adjusting depending on model installed) expels all gases away from the shooter after they've been used to operate the bolt. The ejection port is located on the right side of the reciever as is the charging handle. The ejection port is fitted with a case deflector block to prevent casings from interfering with the shooter during left-handed operation.

Construction of the rifle consists predominantly of high strength polymers in a finished matte black colour. These are reinforced where appropriate with steel inserts. The forestock, grip and trigger assembly, and upper reciever are all held to the lower reciever and stock via cross-pins, allowing for tool-free field stripping and maintenance and even allowing for quick changes between rifle roles. The major benefit of this is that the individual soldier could be expected to convert his G100 Rifle to a G101 Carbine configuration when appropriate rather than require the unit armourer to do so in a time-consuming process which would potentially slow down the tempo of combat operations. Despite the simple cross-pin attachment to the rigidly constructed lower reciever and stock assembly, this means of construction (Also used on the H&K G-36A, G-36C, and G-36K) is exceedingly resilient to damage. The G105 and G106 use a suitably modified lower reciever and stock assembly that is otherwise identical to that of their smaller caliber brothers.

The grip and trigger assembly design allows for different pistol grips and trigger groupings to be installed, allowing for doctrinal differences between units and other military forces should the "Century" series see export success. For example, the standard configuration is a Safe - Semiautomatic - Full Automatic trigger grouping, but other grip and trigger assemblies could be manufactured allowing for regulated burst (IE: 2, 3, or 4 round burst) or semiautomatic only use (As in the G106 Designated Marksman's Rifle). Trigger pressures can also be adjusted with the manufacture and issue of different grip and trigger components: the default trigger pressure for the G100, G101, G102 and G105 weapons is 2.5 kilograms while the G106 has a 1.25kg trigger pull for smoother shot release.

G100, G101 and G102 all feed from thirty round dark polymer detatchable box magazines while G105 and G106 feed from twenty round detatchable box magazines of the same material. The magazine release is of the same design as that of the Kalashnikov series assault rifle, located at the back of the magazine well and of similarily sturdy construction. Rates of fire for the 6.5x55mm variations of the "Century" series are 850 rounds per minute while the G105 has an reduced rate of fire of 600rpms for controllability reasons.

All rifles feature the Aequatian Lazlo Universal Rail System, with one rail fitted to the top of the upper reciever, and four fitted to the forestock both top, bottom, right, and left. When the forestock rails are not in use, optional "forestock panels" can be installed which allow for greater comfort when operating the weapon. These rails are designed to accommodate the fully adjustable and detachable iron sights both fore and rear, and a family of optics. These consist of the M144 1.5x Magnification Reflex Sight, the M366 2.0x Magnification Close Combat Optic and the M788 2.0-5.0x Magnification Combat Optical Gunsight. For the G106, the issued optic is the 4.0-10x Magnification M75 Telescopic Marksman's Optic. One may notice the lag of a bayonet lug on the "Century" series - this is due to the issued K12A4 bayonet being designed to fit over the rifle's muzzle brake in the fashion of the L-85A1 and L-85A2 assault rifles.

OOC: I can't speak for Aequatio, but as I was talking with him over MSN while hurridly writing the technical description you see above (Chances are an improved one is enroute shortly) he mentioned that they're named the "Semiautomatic rifle" simply due to Aequatian parlance.

If you look at the technical writeup you'll see that both the 6.5 and 8.5mm rifles have safe-single-automatic capability and you could produce trigger & grip assemblies with different trigger groupings to include a regulated automatic (IE: 3 Round Burst) option.

The link to the AMI storefront should be in Aequatio's signature. As mindless as some signatures on NS are, I recommend leaving them enabled simply for quick access to most storefronts.
