Mother of the Revolution, Alfreda Desdemona, dies age 53, nation in mourning.
+++

At 6:43am this morning, Alfreda Desdemona, Mother of the Revolution, General Secretary of the Ibaneza United People’s Workers Party, Chairperson of the National Defence Committee, and President of the Ibaneza People’s Republic, died of heart problems age 53.

The Mother of the Revolution, who fought so valiantly in Parliament and on the streets for the freedom of the people and the destruction of Bourgeoisie oppression, was admitted to Ibaneza City’s National People’s Party Hospital on Broadswing Street, Lenin District, suffering heart complaints following work late into the night at the Parliament building. Four hours later, doctors announced the President dead.

Acting swiftly, an Extraordinary Meeting of the Congress of United Workers chose and ratified Vice-President Alexander Somersby as the next President of the People’s Republic. However, in a heroic and selfless display so self-devotion to the Revolution and its leader, Vice-President Somersby declined the title of President of the People’s Republic. Speaking in a session to the Parliament filled with heroic workers exercising their democratic right to watch their vanguard at work, Vice-President Somersby explained that the Presidency was now sacred due to the work of Alfreda, and that nobody could take her place.

“Alfreda Desdemona was the architect of the Socialist Revolution,” Vice-President Somersby declared. “She fought valiantly for the People and the Country to develop the principles of National Communism that we live by today. Nobody could ever improve on her glorious work.”

Instead, Vice-President Somersby moved to install Comrade Alfreda as posthumous Eternal President of the Ibaneza People’s Republic, and promptly resigned his position as Vice-President of the People’s Republic as a gesture to the impossibility of replacing Comrade Alfreda. However, at massive reluctance and much persuasion by the Congress, combined with constant ovation from the public galleries, Comrade Somersby accepted the positions of Chairperson of the National Defence Committee and General Secretary of the Ibaneza United People’s Workers Party (IUPWP) to continue the glorious work of the Socialist Revolution placed in motion by President Desdemona.

The now-General Secretary Somersby pledged to continue the concepts of National Communism, to develop the industrial base of the country, and encourage the nationalistic sentiments of the Ibaneza People. Furthermore, Comrade Somersby announced a re-organisation of economic activity along the grounds of Socialist Capitalism. The General Secretary outlined an economic programme to group different economic areas under the guidance of State Corporations managed by democratically elected officials of the IUPWP, who would organise the production and sale of goods and services along the foundations of the capitalist structure by analysing the market forces of supply and demand. However, the General Secretary expressed, this would be different from the oppressive Capitalist system as the State Corporations would work to a ‘break-even’ system of economic production, where total revenue would equal total cost, thus allowing the workers to receive wages equal to their true value in the productive system. The General Secretary christened this system ‘Socialist Capitalism’, which was immediately accepted by the Congress as national policy.

Furthermore, the General Secretary promised an increase in military spending and finance for the Ibaneza People’s Committee for State Security (IPCSS), the heroic men and women who seek out enemies of the people and quash the counter-revolutionaries left over for the days of Capitalist Oppression. The General Secretary promised to guard the nation from threats both without and within, and declared May 13 to be a National Holiday for the great President Comrade Alfreda Desdemona amid great cheering from the public galleries.

While the Commonwealth of Tolvan finds the very idea of Socialism repugnant, we offer our hand in friendship to the people of Ibaneza. We are prepared to offer you military and economic assitance as well as diplomatic recognition, in exchange for the eliminaiton of trade barreirs between our nations. What is your reply?

Due to the nature of economic activity within the People's Republic (see: 'Socialist Capitalism') we are in a better position to utilise economic activity with other countries than other socialist nations. However, we remain selective as to our trading partners, as one of our central economic tenents is to create a self-sufficient economic system. Nevertheless, we appreciate that capital and investment is required in the short-term to begin this, and will therefore authorise State Corporations to begin trading with the Commonwealth in areas where the State Corporations are currently unable to produce themselves, in return for the offers made by the Commonwealth for diplomatic recognition, economic and military assistance.

If your Trade Ministry (or comparable agency) could put together a list of goods you require, I will see to it that they are supplied to your nation at very favorable rates.

In addition my colleagues at the Ministry of Defense would like a list of military equipment you require, as they are currently putting together an aid package for your nation.

The People's Ministry for Trade has assessed the current economic situation within the People's Republic. Currently, we require an assortment of consumer items to supply to the Ibanezan populace whilst we develop the producer industries involved in creating the basis of a self-sufficient system of economic strength. The file can be found attached to this diplomatic message. The main items on this list involve mostly consumer durables such as vehicles and electrical items for household use. Furthermore, Capital for the production of an industrial base (such as plant machinary) would be welcome to be purchased from your country.

Regarding military aid, the People's Republic would be interested in acquiring Assault Rifles above and beyond the quality of our current AK-47s used by the regular armed forces infantry. Furthermore, Infantry Fighting Vehicles for the movement of personnel in armoured contingents are another key issue for our country to acquire, along with artillery and anti-aircraft units. The People's Republic would also be interested in fixed defensive installlations, such as Anti-Air and Anti-Vehicle/Personnel weapons to guard cities and military bases from attack. We thank the Commonwealth for their assistance.

I have been authorised by the Prime Minister and the Parliament to offer the following trade terms:

6,000 Tolvanic Motor Works (TMW) C150 sedans at a cost of $10,750 each
1,000 TMW T45 trucks at $14,925 each
500 surplus TMW T50 5-ton trucks at $7,375 each

In addition the Downridge Machine Corporation has recently close several outdated plants is willing to supply you with their excess machinery at 90% of market value (estimated $273,000). This machinery is primrily used for the production of metal soup cans but with the proper molds most anything made of aluminum can be cast by this equipment.

In addition we offer the following military aid package:

12,000x R15 rifles (chambered for 6.5 x 48 mm rounds)
2,000x R25 SAWs (chambered for 6.5 x 48 mm rounds)
225x RIM-68 Super Stinger MANPADS
1,000x 36 count cases of M23 series grenades
150x M225 APCs

We offer this entire package for a total of $2,500,000.

In addition we will dispatch personnel to asses your military and offer recommendations on upgrades. Regretably, we are unable to offer our Hellhound II MBT or Spartan IFV for export at this time as we produce them under license from Aequatio.

Once your military is reorganized the we would like to discuss the possibility of holding war games to hone our respective skills.

We thank the Commonwealth for their assistance in this matter. Due to current budget constraints however, we wish only to accept part of the civilian vehicle trade package that has been prepared for us, and will gladly acquire the surplus TMW T-50 Trucks for immediate use within the our economic development. A total of $3,687,500 has been allocated for this purchase. Furthermore, we have set aside $273,000 for the purchase of the machining equipment offered by the Downridge Machine Corporation.

We have also put aside the required $2.5 million for the military aid package offered by the Commonwealth. However, we would also like to request technical specifications for the weapons here, as we are unfamiliar with Commonwealth military weaponry.

The concept of military wargames is indeed appealing to the People's Republic, and we shall possibly contact you regarding this in the future.

OOC: The R15 is a rechambered G36 while the R25 is a rechamberd M249 SAW. The 6.5 x 48mm round offers greater range and stopping power than the 5.56 x 45mm but is lighter and less recoil than the 7.62 x 51mm round. The RIM-68 is a upgraded Stinger, I don't have exact specs since I've yet to use it for RP purposes, just imagine the Stinger, but about 25% better. The M23 series are just normal grenades. They come in frag, concussion, incendiary, and smoke. We can ICly neogiate production rights if you want, but grenades are easy to make yourself. Finally, the M225 is based on this (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/images/m113-001.jpg). I can also sell you some TOW carriers, command vehicles, armored ambulances, fire support vehicles and mortar carriers based on the same chassis. Plus I have some surplus Challenger II tanks if you want. It's not world class but it's a start.

If you want we can start a seperate war games thread to avoid clutter in this one.
