The dead continent (land grab)
The Kubrans reached out to their bretheren of the continent, only to find the continent had killed itself. What was once major cities was now graveyards, overgrown with vines and moss. Once horrendous battlefields were overgrown with grass and flowers. The Kubrans were the only ones left on the continent. They despaired, they wept for their dead neighbors. However, they were soon overcome with greed. The continent was abandoned, no mans land. It had been left peacefully for many years, now it was time to reap the land of its crop.
But the land would soon refuse them.....
BREAKING NEWS
Today, the RKM (Reformed Kubran Military) discovered that beyond our borders is wasteland. The people that once surrounded us have all left. However, the government claims this as a chance to gain resources to help rebuild the still torn parts of the country. "It's a golden opportunity", says an unnamed MP. "The place is probably rich in resources we're lacking, it can bring back life to our private sector and bolster our population with immigrants. Consider this a step into a promise land." However, details as to why the land was abandoned have not yet been released.
OOC: For those of your unfamiliar with land grabs basically the Thread Creator makes a map and you claim parts of it as your own land. You can develop it as you see fit and war can start over land. In fact, creating an evil alliance to completely conquer the map would be a tactic you could use if you so wished. Hell, it would add some life to the whole thing and only piss off people who only want to win. And we're all after the fun roleplay experience, right? ...right? D:

They all moved onto shore prepared to lay claim. Midori took her staff and schrolls. "On behalf of her majesty Empress Sakura Kinimoto, these beaches are claimed in her name and the name of the Empire!"
a flag arose from the ground. Her long red hair tied back blew in the wind. "Let's move inland. Set up base camp here."

We would be interested in claiming a coastal portion just to the south of Kubra as a resource colony and supply base for the Vetalian Navy. This sketch represents an approximate estimate of the land we feel would be appropriate for the facilities and economic development plans for the region

1st Armored Division (no not the American one...) landed on the "No man's land". The merchant ships left to get supplies for the division in the upcoming months as well as people to make farms and towns for the new colony. Green Hawk knew that it didn't have the man power to control a lot of land. So, the 1st laid claim to only a portion of the land. It is enough to grow food for Green Hawk though. Major General Grave Davits took a long look over the horizon. He just claimed enough land for a whole state and all of it was going to be farmland. Then the people of Green Hawk won't have to starve, that would be great in Grave's opinion. They got to work building a base and getting their claim a border in which to defend.

With news of the revival of the allied nation of Kubra in world affairs, the Empire had already taken in its fair share of good news as of late. However, it was not to be the end of rising foreign possibilities, for word of the political situation, or lack thereof, in the Kubran continent, would soon reach the attention of Errikan officials.
This was yet another region of the world ripe for conquest, for the spread of Errikan people and civilization, for the growth of the Empire.
OOC: This is cool; however, is the layout of the coast a bit too simple? Might you wish to add some penninsulas and inlets and seas and whatnot?
EDIT: Area I wish to move into asap (http://www.maj.com/gallery/Errikland/NS/Maps/k.png)

This particular area of the coast is somewhat bare. However, mind you, this is only a section of the entire continent. When the coadt is completely taken up I'll add other sections, ones with more islands and even a giant river running through the continent.
Now I have to put in more work on my map, now that more people are joining in. xD
Want me to add your claim randomly, Errik?

The fleet, if this force could be called such while massive Errikan armadas floated in the Errikan gulf, Atlantic, and seas of Arterus, cut through the heavy waves, the cold metal easily brushing aside the strongest of the water's blows. This collection of heavy metal and weaponry, this cold and emotionless arm of a cold and emotionless Empire, was quickly moving towards the shore of this new land. This expeditionary force was only the beginning. Soon Errikan troops, both soldiers carrying arms and civilians bringing the Errikan way of life, would swarm the land, effectively incorporating it into the Empire.

Crusted lips returned with renewed ferocity, imbibing in a stream of weary sips the coiling smoke, heavy like thick incense it delicately licked his greedy nostrils which devoured the writhing remainder in a fit of opulent sputterings. Once more the slick arcanum that was the obsidian coloured glove descended, taking, gently yet firmly, the ornate pipe and carefully placing it beyond Trenton's small realm of attention. Eyes blazing with the joys of dilation, optics seeming so potent they consumed his ashen countenance as his ragged breath wreathed his lithe chest like so many gaping thorns, occasionally the gasping silence ruptured by an intense bout of harsh coughing, speckling the whiteness of the sheets a decadent crimson.
The young Agent lightly dabbed the perspiration from the glistening forehead, rough hands used to the cold fastness of firearms attempted to manipulate sodden cloth in deft sweeps of agapement. The failing light of the sun cast the room into shadow, strands of illumination filtered through the blinds at odd intervals, creating an ocean of gloom with great prows of dazzling light cresting the waves. It would be a relentless night.
"I have to go?" the voice asked, laced with dull resignation.
"Yes."
"If I don't?"
"How much do you love your daughter?"
"You could tell them I was dead..."
Loyalty. Honour. Respect. They did not need to be said, he'd been a young patriot once too, in the following silence he understood.
"When must I leave?"
"Now."
So it was that Colonel Trenton, the sharpest military mind in a decade, departed from his home, huddled, shivering in an old blanket 'till he entered a dark Sedan, driving out to lead a strike-force into the wilderness in the name of the Empire.

A small fleet of three New Manthian vessels skirts the coast - two cargo ships, and a 1950s-era destroyer which, far too old to meaningfully compete in modern navies, had been retasked to reserve duties such as guarding these colonists. Aboard the other two ships are machinery, food, fuel, and three hundred Denomination of the Army Engineering Corps surveyors, machinists, and engineers. They are accompanied by about a hundred infantrymen - a first contact force designed more to protect from any hostile natives than from an invading army. The plan had been to reinforce substantially once a landing site had been selected, and start sending colonists over... but with trouble back home in Africa, when these forces might be available is now a matter of some doubt.
A single UAV on loan from the Denomination of the Air Force is scouting out the unknown landmass and relaying data back to the ships. It appears that most of the coastline they were currently on had been claimed, and it seems likely that better pickings will be had elsewhere. Reports are reaching the Manthians of a great river elsewhere on the continent... since this area is claimed, they press onward to new lands.
OOC: I figured Lifesblood would go for that southern coast since the northern one is taken, or else someone else would grab it before I got there. So I will be moving on to look for that big river you mentioned... Manthians like rivers. :D

OOC: Oh yea, before I update the map, I think I'll get into the roleplay. I'll also elaorate on some of the equipment the Kubran amy is using, as some of it will be original.
IC: An entire division of New Kubran Militants on regular every day family vehicles (armed with a wide assortment of weapons, with no main weapon being visible, a result of beakdown of military order and the need for civilian protection during the dark age), a few Military APC's, and a small number of tanks left Kubra to stat claiming land, once they reached the former road out of the country there were numerous roads that branched out, where the forces would split up.
However, upon reaching the former border they saw something the didn't expect. Barbed wire. Sure, barbed wire could just be cut, it wasn't a threat. However, the fact that the barb wire was not old and rusted meant one thing: an enemy.
Emmediately everyone stopped and parked their cars on the side of the road. Infantrymen Got out of their cars and used them for cover. Enemies could be anywhee, even within the border. It had been left for too long.

Today marks the beginning of the new Vetalian city of Kelograd, as the first engineers from the Vetalian Engineering Corps and their construction crews landed to begin construction on the naval base that will be the focal point of the settlement.
Over the next four years, the government plans to make the base home to 200,000 Vetalian naval personnel, along with their families from our new Western Command. In addition, the government will begin to offer inexpensive land and housing to colonists, especially families, in the city of Kelograd as well as the surrounding countryside. Plans are also in the works for an airbase as well as facilities for the Strategic Rocket Forces, in addition to a number of civilian projects and infrastructure plans. IC: Firehelper ships moving to claim land and construct a new port on the north bank of the river are met by the New Manthian destroyer. Its old 5-inch guns are leveled, but the Firehelpers will receive plenty of chances to back off before the Manthians, outnumbered as they are, decide to make a fight out of it.
"Attention unknown vessel. You are entering New Manthian-claimed territorial waters. In light of the situation, with territorial claims this way and that and no easy way to keep track, your mistake is understandable, and we are giving you the chance to back off peacefully.
Should you wish to negotiate, we would be more than happy to authorize an official to treat with you."
Further back on shore, about 50 infantrymen are digging in, constructing hasty foxholes and setting up mortar and rocket positions behind cover in case the Firehelpers do attack. The remainder of the infantry guards the airstrip miles away, which is now complete. A few engineers are hastily constructing fortifications there too, while the rest are working on drawing lines for the proposed city. Though the resources of the homeland are stretched in time of war, civilian and military personnel are now in the air and on their way to this new colony.

The first objective of this was to head ro the end of the peniusala and create a fence from one side to the other. Not to dissuade anyone, but let them know that anything beyond that point was Zackarothian. soon troops where going to be sent to land to investgate it better then a copter could.

"Now as we dont want to be lobbing shells (like china and taiwan did) so can we work out an agreement, perhaps for the lease of land for a port. It would me much better than war."
((I'm not that good at MT I been doing FT RPs for a whiel))
The Captain smiles. Perhaps he would not have to sacrifice his ship and men in the name of Manthian sovereignty after all.
"I thought that might work, and I made a call to the Denomination of Foreign Diplomacy while you were on your way over. I've been authorized to make you an offer. Now, understand that if you accept these still would need to be authorized by Command..."
The Captain throws a glance at the numerous Firehelper ships facing his own sole vessel.
"...but I really doubt they'll cause any trouble. We're prepared to offer a strip of shoreline in the west, near the Scandinvian border, fifteen miles long and extending ten miles inland. That should be more than enough space for a port city and a nice defensive buffer to boot, and being on the Scandinvian border it would be ideal for trade. In return, we ask a down payment of $40 billion plus a tax of 1% of the net value of goods passing through the port, for a thirty year lease. At the end of thirty years, the lease to be up for renewal and perhaps renegotiation of the price because of possible currency inflation, current trade values, or whatnot. Within the leased territory Firehelper citizens and military are to be granted full autonomy and freedom to do as they please.
Is this acceptable to your government?"

Ministry of Infrastructure
The rapid development of the colonies in this region has convinced the ministry of defense as well as private companies in Vetalia that the time has come to construct transnational infrastructure to link our colonies and the nation of Kubra to better enhance our economic integration and growth opportunities.
We propose to construct the following rail network, with each nation constructing and maintaining its share of the line and the network:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/shaddamIV/map.jpg
Major rail hubs are marked with black squares. This rail will be freight only, although the transit corridors leave room for passenger lines and expansion.
In addition, we wish to expand our claim more inland to explore for new economic opportunities and open up agricultural and settlement land for our colonists, 1,000 of whom are arriving each week. This will hopefully stimulate development of the more interior regions. We ask that all interested nations provide an estimate of the mileage needed to construct the above network in their nation, and we will give them a cost estimate so that they can decide if it is a good investment or not.

1st Armored Division had completed it's mission. An airfield was set up and three C-130s flew in to drop off supplies and two AC-130s flown in and was now based on the airfield. Major General Grave Davits ordered for a message to be encrypted and to be sent to all UFAN members in the area.
(This is encrypted)
To all UFAN allies. I am Major General Grave Davits, commanding officer of the 1st Armored Division. I have an airfield set up within our territory, but we don't have a lot of aircraft with us say for a few attack aircraft. I am offering space for aircraft, you can have about up to a full squadron of aircraft of any type based here. Also my Aviation Brigade will aid your aircraft in anyway and will keep an eye on your planes just to make sure they don't act up. Even though I don't think anything will happen. Have a nice day. Over.
During this time Grave was informed by a Private that the merchant fleet had returned and a small colony was in the works of being built.
(This is encrypted and this is to Aurum Domus)
Does this answer your question? I have space for one large cargo aircraft or six small or medium sized aircraft. I have an intercepter squadron there now (merchant ships brought them) which is made up of eight F-15 Eagles and three P-3 Orions. There is also two AC-130 Spectres here. Just give me a heads up on what aircraft they are before you send them here, if you take me up on my offer that is.

The fleet of C-130Js and Su Phoenix fighters, fresh out of Haven airspace, descended and landed on the runway in New Goldton. They were diverted to the Colonies to settle the conflict of land claims. Aboard the planes were 5,000 Imperial Marines, tanks, and other vehicles. They also had supplies to build a full military base in the Colonies on one of the nearby islands.
Message to Major General Grave Davits
General we are happy to accept your offer. We are in need of attack aircraft to defend the islands until a carrier arrives. Currently we have only one squadron to guard the islands.

Armed with silenced smg's, they were some of the elite kampferian troops. From the ships offshore, 5 attack helicopters flew in. They landed and were quickly moved into the hangers. 2 large transport helicopters flew in and landed. Unloaded from them were numerous tanks and humvees. The 2nd Colony Fleet, after weeks of travel, finally reached its destination. It was composed of a military escort surrounding a fleet of government supplied, civilian occupied ships. All of them were on their way to take government supplied jobs in the new colony, Los Camacas. The first few cities, El Nuademas (the capital of the colony), La Mayasa (a mainly military area built up northwards), and El Grande Cuidad, had been rush built by the Army Corps of Engineers in preparation. As soon as the colonists were off the ground and ready to go, companies would be let into the colonies to facilitate growth.
Meanwhile, as the Colony Fleet began to ferry its passengers inland, air patrols swept their airspace to ensure that none of the other nations or their colonies were trying to take their land.

Wouldn't that risk a war? I think we should wait for an attack on us. We have the numbers to beat back any attack and still have enough firepower to take over the attacking colonies. Understood, I will monitor the events that might unfold between you and Firehelpers. If something happens that fits into something like an offense action against I will render help, but try peace talks first. They just might be confused as to what is happening. There hasn't really been an official map to tell everyone the exact locations of everyone's borders.

The area was nothing but rubble and blacked buildings, with skeletons in tattered in awkward position, with bullets underneath the bones, probably dropped after the corpses rotted. And everywhere there was signs of combat, guns beside bodies and spent casings. It was true, the continent had killed itself.
"Find anything useful and let's get the hell out", a major said quesily. "I sure as hell don't want to stay in this place long".
And so, soldiers were sent out to pillage the destroyed city for anything useful. Ocassionally stumbling upon working firearms and usable ammunition, mostly hidden within locked containes or buildings that retain relatively less damage than the majority of buildings.

Soon numerous light tanks and tranks from the assault transports were placed in tank bunkers. There were also bunkers being cut into the cliff face that spanned the northern edge. The ruins itself were also different. The corpses weren't just skeletons, they had some amounts of meat still on them. It was like this city survived for a fair time after the other places were ruined, which meant the ruin must contain something valuable that could fetch for a large sum of cash. In the Kampferian pennensula, the first airstrip was now complete. Men immediately began work on a second one. Meanwhile, supply flights were now landing with an increasing regularity. An influx of sailors arrived to build a harbor.
(OOC: I'm expanding like this, in yellow, http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/9848/nsdeadlandslandloscamacxm6.png (http://imageshack.us). The map doesn't show certain claims because I just used the one I had to make my claim the first time. I didn't want to have to copy the new one down.)
Official Fornelian Transmission:
As the cities of the Colony of Los Camacas fill up, the government decides it necessary to increase the length of their claim. We are expanding along the southern side of the river. Coastal batteries and rail-mounted weaponry are being installed along the length of the river and we are setting up a constant naval patrol. Violators of our space will be negotiated with, but we will not give up the claim easily.

Firehelper Autorities inquire as to how the ships would not sray into our border considering it is a river and GPS can be faulty at times
We do not claim the entire river, we are not fools. We would however, like to claim the waters 20 miles (OOC: Is that reasonable? I'm not sure of the scale of the map...) as our own. At the moment, tresspassers will be turned away nonviolently while we build up and civilize the area.
As soldiers advanced the noticed something. If there wasn't a gun beside it then a skeleton was less likel to have bullets below it, rather than one with a gun beside it. However, it was suspected to be the merciless slaughter of civilians and nothing more. They hardly card, what with the discovery of usable oil wells.
New Manth

New Manthian personnel are busy clearing out debris in preparation for rebuilding one of the ruined cities they had found as they pressed New Manthian claims into the largely open west (OOC: in the recently claimed land on the third map). Even New Manthian soldiers, though they are fairly inured to death and destruction, and many are veterans of New Manth's African wars, are beginning to get a little nervous about what might have happened here. With the exception of a few soldiers who had met a Firehelper delegation, none of them had seen any other living inhabitants besides themselves.
A burly soldier approaches an officer, who stands surveying demolition efforts in the ruins of one city. It had been well-placed on the river bank, and the New Manthians are planning to take advantage of that placement and simply rebuild in the same spot. He snaps a salute before addressing his superior.
"Sir?"
"What is it?"
"Well, you know all these bodies lying around... the previous inhabitants, right?"
"What about them? Killed each other off in a big war or something, right?"
"Well... some of the boys are starting to get a little nervous. We're making some disturbing finds, sir... seems like a lot of them might have killed themselves."
"What? Are you sure?"
"Not really, sir, it's hard to tell. But it seems that the skeletons bearing weapons are also the ones showing evidence of gunshot trauma. We've got a military forensics team down below, checking them out to see if they can figure out whether any of them really did kill themselves, or whether it's just the soldiers getting jumpy from not seeing anyone. Well, anyone alive."
"Couldn't this just be the result of battle? I mean, soldiers are more likely to die in battle than civilians, right?"
"Possibly, sir. But it doesn't seem to fit. After all, everyone died, not just the armed ones."
"Very well. Keep me up to date, then. We already checked the area for biological and chemical weapons residue, but it might be best to do a double check. Oh, and try and keep the details from spreading among the ranks, at least until we're a little more sure of what happened here."

These seperate areas all now had a fairly decent port, air port, military base, air base, and NBC shelter. Currently the majority of the work caried out by the people was infrastructure/ housing, improving points of access, and defenses. However some work was also being done on the extensive raw amterials of the area.

And we're all after the fun roleplay experience, right? ...right? D:

Another plane was also heading to the Aurum Doman claims on the western islands. They hadn't gotten everything but they had an island and a half. Hopefully the Scandinavians would be friendly. Grave knew now that it was time to expand. He got a report that said that Green Hawk's population might double in the upcoming months... They only had enough farmland for the current population. He ordered a Brigade to move out to the west(?). He would claim more territory, enough for about three times Green Hawk's current population. Support was also coming in, the 3rd Infantry. He watched as the Challenger 2 tanks moved across the wasteland. He also looked up to see two C-130s that would air drop supplies to the west(?) for the Brigade. Green Hawk was growing more powerful by the day and any trace that Green Hawk was once a 3rd world nation would be gone. Modernization is such a beautiful thing. Grave thought smiling.

All the found was death.
Letters on death, books on death, memos on death, they talked about the dead. The dead, the dying, those long dead, there was nothing but death in the former peoples minds.
The explorers felt sick to their stomachs. The people of this place talked about death, destruction, war, anger, and revenge. The former people were angry, they wanted revenge, they yearned for it, they got it.
They found papers documenting a war, something relevant to research on the bloody history of the continent. The learned the battlefields, the generals, the armaments, they learned everything. The wept, they had never read about such brutality as the brutality they learned in the ruin. They vomited, sick to thir stomachs. However, they learned something that rekindled their lust over the ruin. The location of the end, the final solution. The people created the means to bring about their revenge, in the most horrific way. They concoted something of purest evil, a means of complete destruction of the opposition. However, it was documented that it was too late, it was released on the people, and by some ironic forces the continent had long since killed itself before the people created their final solution. However, the final solution was still preserved, still in tangible form. There was directions, a path towards where it was held. The purest evil was housed in the heat of the city, in the building that once housed the leaders of the tainted people. They could take it for themselves and harness it for their own means. They would become like gods, ruling over the destiny of man. They would be kings.

Unknown Territory
To put it bluntly, Squadron 36 was lost. The ASW squadron composed of the Morrigan Class cruiser LHS Simmons and her escorts (three destroyers and five frigates) had gotten lost in heavy fog while on a training mission in deep water. GPS was functioning, but not entirely helpful.
So when a Lieutenant on the frigate LHS Cisco spotted a landmass through the fog, spirits were high. It was expected that the Squadron would make contact with the locals, pinpoint their location, and be home without anyone the wiser.
Coming up on the landmass, the frigate's lookouts reported that it appeared to be...uninhabited. No signs of human habitation. The signals people in the CIC said no radio transmissions or radar signatures whatsoever. The Cisco deployed a helicopter with a squad of Marines to check out the area.
LCpl. Piat of the 236th Marine Battalion was officially the first person from the Lost Hills to step foot on this land. A quick sweep of the area and a flyover by the helicopter showed no traces of sentient life for miles around. It was pure, unadulterated wilderness, with some ruins thrown in the mix.
Captain Surry, commander of Squadron 36, ordered the high-gain antenna to be raised on the Simmons. He had originally been refusing to hail Central Command out of shame, but this previously undiscovered land mass was simply too good of an opportunity to give up. Who knows, he might even be named governor of the new territory. The Captain sent a coded transmission to the Central Command back in Lost Hills advising them of the situation and requesting instructions.
The first sentence of the response was enough: Be fruitful and multiply.
The Captain smiled and ordered a landing party.

The Port at New Athens
All in all, the expansion was progression spectacularly. After Squadron 36 had reported the discovery of this empty continent, the Central Command had dispatched a task force of vessels to secure the area and prepare the land for colonization. Marines had been hard at work clearing the jungle just inland of the landing site and building several large docks for freighters to come in and offload supplies, material, and men.
A number of good-sized settlements were developing on the mainland, with over 15,000 colonists settling in and exploiting the land, rich in gold, furs, fine lumber, rare metals, and most importantly, oil and natural gas. The island chain just off the coast was reserved for the military, although the LHDF still maintained a sizable presence on the continent itself.
The most pleasant surprise was the discovery of a series of large coastal gun batteries on the island chain, apparently designed to protect the small bay from attack. The Marines had been able to clear the vines from the huge barrels and found that the guns were variants of the 30" ETC guns in use by many modern navies. 48 of them were scattered throughout the island chain, affording unsurpassed protection for the fledgling colony and naval vessels protecting it.
Freighters were coming in daily, offloading colonists, military personnel, vehicles of all sorts, and most importantly, helicopters. In the dense jungle of the continent, it was difficult to move by land vehicle, and helicopters were the preferred mode of transportation for the military personnel assigned to the colony. A large air station was built at New Athens to accommodate the helicopters, as well provide a number of runways for the delivery of more men and materiel. Several divisions of Marines, parachute infantry, and armored cavalry made their home in the vast claim, constantly scouting and expanding.
All in all, life proceeded easily for the colonists. The farmland was very fertile, more fertile than anything back home, there was vast amounts of natural resources to make them all rich, and the military was continuing to push the limits of the stake.
Exciting news came several weeks into the development of the settlement, when parachute scouts reported vast plains directly to the east of the jungle surrounding the settlement. A division of paratroopers was immediately dropped in from bases in Lost Hills and established forward operating bases in the new territory. A road was hacked through the jungle, linking the new bases and frontier settlements with the established base at New Athens.
Lost Hills would continue to advance into the wilderness, without anyone to stand in its way.

NEW CLAIMS:
Well it's not new but my claim on Map 3 still needs to be added. Land claim is http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s20/Coriat/claim.jpg here again for your convenience Kubra, I am fairly sure noone else has claimed that so there should be no troubles going ahead and adding it. I am also about doubling the 'thickness' of the belt of river land that I own on map 2. Again noone else has claimed it.
IC: New Manthian efforts to reclaim this continent are proceeding apace. Though as far as most of the settlers can tell, the previous inhabitants had been psychotic creeps to the last, they had left quite a bit of usable infrastructure behind, both military and civilian, especially in the river area claimed by New Manth - apparently once an industrial urban heartland. Under New Manthian rule it soon will be again.
The provincial capitol of New Manth's new colony has been affectionately named Kamys Point by its inhabitants, after the commander of the engineer detachment which had first identified it as a probable settlement point. Repopulation is proceeding apace, as there are no shortage of poor in New Manth who see the founding of such an extensive new colony as a new chance at making it in life - for many, perhaps the only chance they might ever get to break out of the stratified society back in the homeland. Not that there are not problems - unexploded land mines, evidence of the previous inhabitants' paranoia, had dogged the early colonists before most major fields were tagged, and the general state of dilapidation still hampers reconstruction. Now the land mines are simply avoided - they will serve New Manth just as well as their original creators, and it saves the cost of removing them. More importantly, the colonists have repaired large portions of Nasser Town's power grid and municipal systems, and are beginning to get steel mills, factories and refineries into working order. The discovery of an extraordinarily rich oil field complete with wells - still in working order! - on New Manthian land is spurring an effort to make the colonies at least largely self-sufficient, and to begin a process where the colonies could start shipping materials and resources to the mainland rather than draining resources from it.
Kamys Point - and several other settlements springing up across New Manthian territories - is beginning to take on the semblance of a living city again. Indeed ruined skyscrapers still dot the skyline like broken teeth, but down below in the streets people and vehicles are moving again.
As the colony has become a significant investment, there are now significant military forces present to protect it. A far cry from the original 100 soldiers, there are now nearly 50,000 combat troops throughout the colony, and an even larger number of noncombat support personnel. Shortages of equipment are still a problem, but thanks to foreign arms purchases the New Manthians are able to supplement their meager military equipment with Kriegzimmer-produced mobile SAM batteries, land mines, and the fearsome Nakil 1A1 main battle tank. About the only main weakness of the New Manthians is in ships - nearly all are still needed elsewhere, and there is no significant Manthian naval presence anywhere near the continent.

Consolidation
As the borders of the colony expanded and roughly solidified, the military became much more comfortable in terms of maintaining security. A final demarcation was established beyond the plains and pushing south, not yet reaching a major river, but engulfing an island and a small bay the military could use as a naval base for the defense of the colony. Central Command was not comfortable with moving any further out, as long range recon indicated the presence of other settlers on the continent.
In any case, the area by the sea was ideal for the purposes of the settlers. The bay was rich in natural resources and animal life; whaling was finally making a comeback in the economy.
The mobilization efforts of the government were so effective that 1 million people now called this continent their home, clustered in a number of settlements along the coast and the plains. Freighters were arriving daily with more and more people, and airliners were now conducting regular service to the several airports that had sprung up. The economy was booming, with crop yields being the highest the farmers of Lost Hills had ever seen. Captains of industry co-opted existing ruins and turned them into infrastructure. A number of small rivers complete with existing dams provided enough hydroelectric power to supply the entire settlement, along with irrigation to make the farmers very happy.
The military situation was nominal. Pending the delivery of the new artillery and armored vehicles, the military was relying heavily on the MXH-20 attack helicopters and MV-24 Peregrine Escort Craft for defense, as they provided an excellent deterrent against any armored incursion. To put it simply, they would annihilate any foes.
A number of Space Union-produced stealth bombers were based at the air station at New Athens, and UAVS flying out of the various forward operating bases patrolled the borders of the territory. The fleet was anchored in and around the coast, having swelled to over 100 vessels of all types. Much of the air capability of the colony rested with the aircraft carriers anchored just off shore. Pending new purchases by the Office of Procurement, the detachment should swell enough that squadrons could be released to patrol and explore the south.
Command ordered an Osprey full of Marines with two Peregrine Escorts to scout out the major river to the south and to ascertain whether or not the settlers there were friendly. Remarkably, they were outfitted with full combat loads, with the new munitions from OMASC/NDI reassuring the flight crews that they would be able to deal with any obstacle in their way...

Every island was heavily guarded with SAMs along with 1,000 Marines. There was also a huge fleet anchored of the coast of the colonies ensuring defense. A new airport was being built to accomadate the merchant planes that carried the raw resources to the homeland. Things were going great.

A Manthian communications officer fiddles with his radio.
"This seems to be picking up a Kubran transmission... something about a classified mission, or whatnot. Some sort of weapon, the fellow on the line is claiming that some Kubran agents have gone rogue.
"Weapons, eh?" inquires the local CO. "What sort of weapons?"
"Sorry, sir, only picked up the transmission partway through. Could be conventional, chemical, biological..."
The Manthian officer is clearly still thinking in terms of WMDs and familiar weapons, despite his time on the continent.
"Radio the Air Force. See if we can't arrage for a couple UAVs to check out the area... We're mostly done mapping this area of the continent anyway."
Shortly, two Manthian UAVs change course to home in on the source of the signal, flying low and fast.

A Marine sitting in the Comm. room in the Marien bunker in New Goldton picked up a strange transmission about some kind of weapon. He reported it to the General who had heard rumours about a superweapon that had left the continent barrne. He immediatly ordered several UAVs to hoem in on the signal.
The Kubrans, of course, caught the signal. However, when they heard of the deeds once done in the continent, many officers vomitted. The'd never heard of such brutality, things even Jesus himself couldn't forgive. Worse yet, it was done on an unsecured frequency. That meant eveyone would have heard. There was no time to waste, the race was on. The exploration had gone horribly wrong, government fnding had gone to something it should never have went to. There was no time sending time sending UAVs, it was the Kubran Military that assigned the path they followed. Immediately the Military mobilized, sending in fast moving jeeps to follow the path as opposed to slow moving tanks. They just needed to get in and get out before anyone else got in.
New Manth
14-05-2007, 22:01
...Unfortunately for the Kubrans, however, Kubran territory is nearly twice as far away as Manth's nearest claim... and the Manthians are also using a faster method of transport even than jeeps. As they heard more, the Manthians had decided that more than UAVs were warranted. A formation of heavy transport helicopters whirls towards the signal at high speed, carrying a full four hundred and twenty soldiers, including a bioweapons and chemical disposal squad... and practically everyone who had been nearby and could be kitted out immediately. A squadron of F-19 fighter jets accompanies them as they speed across the continent.
Meanwhile, the UAVs home in on the signal. Intelligence officers scrutinize images from the crafts' onboard surveillance.

After recieving the message Firehelper command sent several of the UCAVs taht circles 24/7 several km over the area to the area of the message. A spyy satilite was also repositioned and sent to take pictures.
((I can make it up right...))
The spy satilite was already on the way to the continent when the new orders were recieved. Quickly it took some pictured before the UCAVs arrived. It showed numerous burned villages, tanks, people, animals, and crater marks. It appeared that a great battle had taken place here. However not much could be revealed as the cause.... that would have to wait for the UCAVs.
The Colony High Command immediately launched a series of aircraft, the elite "REDBIRDS" Tactical Fighter Squadron and their F/A-103 Stanzas from AMI Industries, and dispatched a follow up force of tanks, jeeps, and footsoldiers. Meanwhile, the Command contacted home for a backup force to be readied in case necessary.
Meanwhile, keeping the knowledge of the sudden mobilization hidden from most of the general populace, the borders of Los Camacas were expanded. Settlers came in because of the massive availiability of work, and the ready homes constructed for them. Airfares were made incredibly cheap, and the cities were constantly growing.

"Sir,"
"What?" Grave asked the Private at the radio.
"Kubra has found some sort of weapon and they seem to be searching for it..."
"Say again?"
"Kubra has found some sort of WMD and they are looking for it. So that they can make sure no one uses it... I think thats what the guy on the radio said."
"This could be a trick you know."
"I didn't think that sir..." Grave thought for a moment and said, "Tell you what? Keep listening to the radio, if something comes up like a WMD report again. Tell me so I can hear it for myself."
"Yessir!"
OOC: I don't see the point in joining you guys since Armored Divisions move slowy...
Kubrans realized they would not make the area in time before someone else reached the area, maybe reaching the evil. However, it was then they realized they were already there. The man who radioed in was loyal to them, which meant they were closer than anyone else.
"Johnes, listen to me", one of the generals said into a radio. He was the one that endorsed the funding of the exploration project. "Pull yourself together, if what you talked about is all that bad, you know what to do".
Then, it clicked into his mind. I haave to stop them. I have to take it and run, I must evade capture and take it to safety. It was then he knew what he had to do.
He grabbed a rusted gun from a nearby corpse. It probably didn't work any more, but it had a bayonet, so he wouldn't be completely unarmed. Next he needed transportion, some sort of way get to the heart of the city.
There were plenty of cars, of course. However, most of them had either crashed or were most likely unusable. He tried car after car. However, most of them were missing keys. Those that had keys in them were in terrible condition. However, he spotted a garage door, miraculously closed. If there was a car in there then it would have been sheltered from rain and other methods of environmental damage. However, the chances it had a key were next to none, and in the time it would take to get the door open he might be able to find another car that worked. However, he decided this was worth the gamble. He pried the door open, amazed by his luck. There was a car, driver dead. The car had not been started, so there would be gas, what luck. He Soved the corpse out and started the car.

Escalation
Signals were pouring in to the command building in the now fortified city of New Athens. No less than five distinct entities were vectoring toward a location located deep in the continent, near the ruins of an ancient city.
Command decided that it would be a terrible strategic idea to go in guns blazing and instead opted for a covert insertion of a special operations unit by MXH-20 stealth helicopter. The choppers doubled as light transport craft and gunships, and would drop off the spec-ops team and provide air cover if necessary.
Twelve men of the Paphlagonian unit boarded a formation of three helicopters, which then took off and sped to the target zone.
***
While all this was occurring, the Army was still conducting scouting operations to the south of the colony, with more and more missions moving west. The patrol groups, composed of an Osprey and Peregrine escorts, swept the land, mapping and observing.
Patrol 145D from the 125th Airborne Division (Assault) happened upon a small settlement to the far west of the colony, upon the banks of a large river. 1LT Dirk Black was in command of the paratrooper detachment in the Osprey and ordered the aircraft to land on the outskirts of the village.
"What are our orders LT?" asked a nervous sounding Cpl. through his helmet. The LT couldn't see his face, but was positive he was terrified.
"We're gonna carry out our standing orders, Cpl. Make friends. But, uh, don't forget extra ammo and grenades."
According to the LT's HUD, the flag borne above the town center was that of New Manth. He took a deep breath and started advancing.

Unidentified City Ruins
Manthian UAVs, now in place, circle above the city ruins. The Kubrans almost doubtless know New Manthian forces are on their way, so there is little point in concealing their presence. And there is a more important mission than stopping the lone Kubran who had made the initial radio transmission... stopping the rogue explorers from getting their hands on whatever devices or weapons are in this city.
The UAVs dip low, far too low for stealth operations, in order to give themselves the best chance of locating the rogue group of Kubrans. The whine of jet engines fills the air as the UAVs flash through the city, flying barely higher than the tallest buildings. The threat of war is coming once more to this dead city.
Behind comes the main force, only a few minutes away now. A pair of jet fighters detach from the slower moving helicopter formation and race for the city. Should the shit hit the fan before the choppers could arrive, it might be helpful to have more than just unarmed reconnaissance aircraft in the area.
Cape Mattan Settlement
At first, the whine of helicopter blades gives the workers and soldiers of Cape Mattan, currently busily engaged in repairing the town and constructing a new RADAR station, little pause. Helicopters are coming and going fairly often now carrying troops and materials. But as the chopper prepares to land, someone finally notices that it's not New Manthian. An alarm is shouted and troops rush for weapons. Though the choppers do not appear to be hostile, the Manthians are taking no chances in the current volatile situation.
An officer approaches the choppers as snipers take up positions and infantryment scramble for cover and firing positions.
"Who are you?" he calls, first in Arabic, then in English, and in French if neither of those work. "What are you doing in New Manthian territory?"

The Settlement at Cape Mattan
Lieutenant Black was in a tricky situation. First contacts were always awkward, but this one was made even more so by the vast amounts of firepower both sides brought to bear. The motion sensor built into his armor projected a number of hidden contacts on his HUD, all of which had weapons trained on him and his men.
Snipers, he thought.
Standard first contact doctrine was to "approach the foreigners with respect and dignity. Do not provoke them."
Well, he thought, I guess now is as good as time as any. Black removed his helmet and called out to the Manthian officer.
"First Lieutenant Dirk Black, 56th Air Assault Regiment, Republic of Lost Hills. We are peaceful explorers on a scouting mission. Who are you?"
His men fingered their weapons nervously. He could heae the muttering from behind him.
Let's just frag the bastards...
....dunno why we even bother to "negotiate"
He sincerely hoped no one would do anything stupid.
The Ruined City
Captain Pylaemenes of the Paphlagonian Division hit the ground running. He had twelve men with him, experts in EW, demolitions, interrogation, intelligence, and weapons. His team was among the foremost in the entire Army and was specially chosen for this recon mission.
Not like he was happy about it.
The T-51C powered armor suits the Paphlagonians wore were in the "assault" configuration, designed for mobility and speed, and less armored than the standard infantry suits. Sure, they'd stop rifle rounds, but the troopers would be vulnerable to snipers and machine gun fire.
The Zenith attack choppers weren't made for comfort, and the Captain was happy to be out of it. The rear troop compartment was cramped, and Pylaemenes felt his leg muscles cramping up as he ran into a ruined building. The Zeniths departed, seeing no real need for air cover. There weren't any armored vehicles in the area, and besides, radar picked up a large group of contacts inbound. The Zeniths moved 5km out, landing and holding position, waiting for the Captain's evac order.
Pylaemenes consulted a real-time satellite readout on his HUD. One of the advantages of purchasing billions upon billions of dollars of high-tech gadgets was the ability to monitor anything. It definitely came in handy.
The IR readout showed a number of signatures moving just north of his position. Transmitting a message to the Zeniths to hold position, he ran his men hard toward the contacts.

The click of safeties being disengaged echoes through the old city ruins at Cape Mattan, but the officer raises his hand.
"Hold fire. I am Captain Husaam of the Denomination of the Army of New Manth. I must inform you that you have strayed rather far into New Manthian territory. However, mistakes can be made, eh? It's not like it's all clearly marked yet."
Captain Husaam waves his men down and New Manthian soldiers begin to cautiously emerge from cover all around, though the safeties remain off and the soldiers remain jumpy, still nervous about a potential trap.
"Sorry about the cold welcome, but it seems like half the people we've run across lately want to declare war on someone or another, and the rest are after our land. And it's not like this place is really good for the nerves, either. Damn creepy, whatever happened here. If you're just explorers, though, we've got no quarrel with you."
Ruined City
The two F-19s roar towards the city at speeds well in excess of the sound barrier, aiming to catch up with the rogue Kubrans before they can reach whatever weapons are stored within. One roars past not three hundred meters above Pylaemenes' head, breaking the eerie quiet of the dead city with a thunderous sonic boom. Unaware of the special ops team below, the pilot proceeds towards his main objective - locating and eliminating the rogue Kubran agents before they can seize whatever weapons this city holds. The Manthians do not expect it to be too hard as, according to their intel, the Kubrans should be pretty much the only thing moving in the entire city, besides themselves.
"This is NMC 1-4 Team 11, we have reached the city. Searching for target now."
Barely has the sound of the two jets recededed somewhat from Pylaemenes' ears before he hears a new sound - the distinctive clatter of approaching helicopters. Lots of them.

"Choppers. Lots of them. They're landing and soldiers are disembarking."
The Captain wasn't happy with that report.
"Keep an eye on them. Have the rest of the team take up defensive positions. We may get into a firefight."
He signaled through his suit for the Zeniths to spin up and prepare for emergency ex-fil.
Bad day indeed.
The Settlement at Cape Mattan
Black finally let out a breath of relief. At least they aren't barbarians, he thought to himself.
"Our apologies for intruding on your territory. I assure you, we mean no harm."
He motioned for one of his men to come forward.
"I suggest we exchange maps. Corporal Sarpedon will provide you with the boundaries for our settlement to the West. We hope that you can provide us with yours in the East."
"In the meantime, I will make a report to my superiors about the situation. Hopefully we can coexist peacefully in this beautiful place. If you would please excuse me."
Black turned on his heel and strolled back to the Osprey, leaving his men to mingle with the people of the settlement. He transmitted a coded message to the Command at New Athens.

"Move it into that village over there, and set up a CP."
"You heard him ,corporal," said the captain, "Go set up his CP." Said the captain lazily, he watched as L/Cpl white Dragged the generals kit to the village.

The firehelper territory was at the moment a military and strategic base. It controlled the river entry points and it needed to be defended. This was quickly done by creating a large heliport and costal defence batteries. Now a port was being constucted as several convertd amphibious assault ships arrived. These ships offloaded colonists and supplies on the north bank. It was here that a city would be built. Soldiers were beginning to radiate out from the main base and put signposts along the way dictating what the area would be. Slowly they expanded teh territory of firehelper

The Blub Colony
16-05-2007, 16:49
Sputter, backfire! Sputter! From .. somewhere out on the ocean, a single grey-blue painted landing craft approached one of the beaches of the landgrab zone. Just one landing craft. The thing looked as though it had survived World War II, with various dents and a few rust stains. A puff of dark diesel smoke rose up from it now and then before finally.. it crashed through the waves near the beach and .. thunk. Landed.
A moment later the ramp went down.. and a single Blub emerged. The little green blob-like critter stuck its eyestalks around the edge of the ramp and peered left.. right.. left. Then scurried down the ramp.
The Blub made his way up the beach, until he reached green grass. There, he held aloft a thin metal pole with a green flag and the Blub Colonial flag on it.. stabbed it into the ground. Leaving it there, he wandered further inland, about a kilometer. Producing a can of neon orange spray paint, he began to draw a semi-circle on the ground with it, working his way towards the beach. Effectively .. marking a U-shaped chunk of land about one kilometer by one kilometer.
The Blubs now have a foreign land holding. Hurrah!

"May I inquire as to your intentions here?" was the menage sent through it as the others continued their search.
The arrival of the Firehelper aircraft causes some consternation among the Manthian soldiers as they spread out to surround the large building which, intelligence had indicated, contains the weapons in question. One of the several helicopters disgorges its soldiers and then approaches, the pilot hailing the craft on known Firehelper frequencies.
"This is the New Manthian Colonial Defense Authority. We have received reports of possible weapons of mass destruction in this city, nature unknown. We are here to investigate and if necessary destroy any stockpile that might exist."

Construction in the Kampferian territory could not have been going better. The harbour was nearly complete, and many ships were already docked. The original inflatable Buildings were being packed up, as they were being replaced by more durable materials. The Army had shored up the border, but was now pressed to move inland. The Port at New Athens
The heavies had finally arrived. After a major restructuring of the armed forces, the Army had called upon Kriegzimmer to supply the armored vehicles of the various units that used them: cavalry, mobile infantry, Marines, paratroopers, etc.
The freighters moored at New Athens and began disgorging their cargo, thousands of infantry fighting vehicles, light tanks, artillery units, trucks, and of course, the Nakíl 1LH, a variant of the fearsome Arca IVs produced specifically for Lost Hills. 2,500 were now shipped to the Colonies; with no other threats on the horizon, the Army had no other use for them.
The Command staff were obviously pleased at the results. They had not realized they would be able to set the plan in motion so quickly.
The Settlement at Cape Mattan
There was no doubt about it: the river was important. UCAV scans had shown substantial radiation signatures emanating from hulks rusting at the bottom of the river; further analysis had confirmed the presence of thermonuclear weapons.
It was Black's job to secure the weapons and prepare them for retrieval, but these damn New Manthians were getting in the way. Oh well. They'd be taken care of shortly.
Black put back on his helmet. He heard the hissing click of the air system as it engaged the NBC protection system. Hope this this thing works, he thought grimly. Behind all the armor and glitz, the suit had a full body seal. He would be fine.
He keyed in on his command frequency.
"We're going to take them. Capture the Captain and eliminate all Manthian defensive positions. The Regiment will use the ruins as a base to secure the devices."
It would be dirty business, what with the colonists and all, but it had to be done. Command couldn't let a foreign military power have access to that technology in such proximity to the Colonies.
"Spin up the Peregrines."
The Peregrine escorts were extremely heavily armed for a craft of their size. They would ensure the success of the mission. Black walked out of the back of the Osprey to see his men still mingling with the Manthian troops.
The Peregrines took off and apparently left the area, flying away at high speed. His troops that were mingling with the Manthians readied themselves. It was strangely quiet.
Black walked up to Captain Husaam, shook his hand, and calmly, deliberately, punched the man in the jaw.
The Ruined City
Pylaemenes was not very happy. Although that was typical of the Captain, today was especially depressing, as Pylaemenes was finding it very difficult to keep his mind of the mission.
There were too many guns in the city. His counterparts from the various colonies that now inhabited the Continent were sweeping the city in search of...something.
Well, his mission was to observe and report. His sniper up on the roof had overwatch, making sure nothing would sneak up on him, while his signals expert analyzed the radio transmissions flying throughout the city.
Stay put, he would.
The Fornelian flight squadron's recon revealed extensive forces in the area, from many of the nations with a colonial presence. The decision was made to immediately airlift a team of marines and some armor in to secure a base for further operations in the immediate area. Additionally, because it was unlikely that helicopters or a aircraft landing could be done safely within time to react to a threat, it was decided that a flight of aircraft would airdrop the marines into the area along with airborne tanks. The call was sent to base, and the Squadron was told to patrol the area as long as they could before returning to refuel.

At the First Los Camacas Air Base, three Marine squads loaded on to transport aircraft and prepared for their jump.

A being the 1st sample in existence to E, being the finished product. I wont say what they are yet, but I'll give hints.
War takes a lot of provokation, most of the time a nation must be attacked after a lot of tension and hostilities. Even then, a ceasefire would be called, saving many lives. What if you could prevent this? Whaat if you could make a cease fire impossible? What would happen to mankind?
IC: Guns didn't deter them. They wanted it, they desired it, the world would be at their disposal with it. The driver hit the gas. They were going faster, faster, faster....

Kubran forces could see the ruin in the distance now. After seeing so man ruins it usually wouln't be too interesting seeing one. However, since they knew what was in it, to them it was a house of horror. Men did their last minute checks, making sure their gear was ok. And as in instructed by the agents, they all wore gas masks. There was only 450 of them, nearly half of the Kubran Special Operations Bureau. They were all combat veterans and well armed. Unlike the regular army, They had standard issue weaponry. They sported the prototype FR90 Assault Rifles, the rifles for operations not requiring stealth. They would soon to become standard issue for all basic infantry. Of course, that wasn't their only weaponry. They had other weaponry, such as the H&K mark 23 pistols, the SMAW rocket launchers, and other vital weaponry

Sergeant Richards was walking on his patrol along the Kampferian colony's border. He scanned the area to his left, and saw a large iron hillish structure. "What the..." He summoned 5 more soldiers and walked on over. An opening yawned in front of him. He switched on his night vision goggles, and walked in.
OOC: This place will be known as the "ancient bunker" It will eventually show why the continent was abandoned in the 1st place, but with the newer tech we have, we can easily overcome it.
OOC: Sorry, no can do. The turmoil in the ruins is going to reveal the cause I have planned out. xD
But I suppose they had other holding facilities, as well as areas to stockpile it and implement them into weaponry. So I suppose that bunker could be where it was manifested in weapon form, rather than the city, were it was simply researched and documented.

The Droskianishk freighter, HMSS Kutz, landed off the coast of this large continent and her crew moved ashore to test for resources. The small detachment of Royal Marines set up a small wooden fortress and transmitted the information to the Royal Department of Military Affairs. The Department then transmitted this information to the world.

The Ruined City
"Last warning!" a man hollers, but the jeep shows no signs of stopping. By now, most of the several hundred-strong Manthian force has noticed it.
"OK, take 'em down!"
About three dozen soldiers open up on the lone jeep, as well as four light machine guns. The Manthians will take no chances, having just confirmed the detection of strong radiation and thus, likely nuclear material.
(OOC: Hope you don't mind me continuing. I will edit if you want, it's just my opinion that a single jeep has no chance in hell against five hundred odd soldiers)
The deafening chatter of guns mixes for just a second with the roar of the jeep, before someone hits the fuel tank and the vehicle explodes with a whump. Several of the nearest men dive for shelter as a few stray parts fly through the air. An officer cautiously raises his head.
"All right! Qusay, take your men and check it out, or what's left of it. The rest of you, keep moving!"
As a few men approach the hulk of the jeep, the rest contine to establish their cordon around the building. The disposal squad suits up, and, after knocking down the door, enters.
The Settlement at Cape Mattan
"Good news." says the officer as he exits the barracks, accompanied by several other soldiers. "Colonial Defense has authorized the exchange of maps with your Republic of Lost Hills. I can put your men in contact with the right people-"
The fist comes out of nowhere, taking the Manthian completely by surprise. He crumples, and judging by the crack he will have at least a broken jaw to deal with, if not more. Happening as it does in full view of nearly all the two hundred-odd Manthian soldiers at this particular barracks, it takes the man's companions a second just to realize what happened.
"The hell you doing!" one shouts, as the surrounding men reach for their carbines.
OOC: Just so I have a handle on it, how many men does Black have with him? There are two hundred Manthians at this particular barracks, in addition to a number of construction workers and a few Praetorian II SAMs. The settlement as a whole has about eight hundred soldiers, about 50 Nakil 1A1s and a similar number of Praetorians, in addition to several thousand civilians.
They heard it, the rapid chatter of automatic weapons and then a blast. The 1st shots the city had seen in years had been fired, the place was truly a war zone.
"Black Eagle to Nest, there are other predators in the area, raise the population", a soldier said into a radio. It was code, meaning there were other armed forces and reinforcements would be needed.
* *
The last explorer also heard it, he even saw the fire and smoke. He drove around a corner, then came face to face with people with guns, Manthian forces. Well, at least he'd found the place.

"Shit."
Pylaemenes was annoyed by the disturbance over the common band. Not necessarily secure.
"What is it?"
"Action down below. 200m out on the southwest."
Pylaemenes zoomed in with his suit. A large group of soldiers was surrounding a ruined jeep. It appeared that two large groups of men would be converging around a set of ruins.
"We're moving out."
The Settlement at Cape Mattan
Black only had twenty or so men, which put him at a distinct disadvantage against the Manthian contigent of a hundreds of men, SAMs, tanks, and Zeus knows what else hiding in that damned settlement. The orders were stupid to begin with.
Well, they'd faced worse odds before.
The suits would protect them from most small arms fire, unless they took one too many hits or took one in a soft area. Black had seen some dreadful wounds from hits to the neck.
The paratroopers were armed with new carbines supplied by Doomingsland. The weapons were chambered in a special 6.7x53mm cartridge; a two-round burst would be enough to take on most body armor.
Black slung the Captain over his back and gave the order to fire. His men were arranged behind good cover and with overlapping kill zones. The tat-tat of carbines and SAWS firing into the Manthian troops began resounding through his speakers, and he turned it down as he ran for the Osprey. It became clear that they wouldn't be able to win by themselves.
Screams started coming from outside as both Manthians and his men were dying. Black made sure the Manthian Captain was secure in the Osprey and headed back for the action, firing his carbine as he dodged enemy fire. His platoon gunner was hit, so he took up the SAW variant of the DR-83, changed the ammo box, and started raining down 6.7mm rounds on the Manthians.
He saw one of his men arming a Weasel. Good, good. They know their jobs. He was hit just as he leveled the rocket launcher at an enemy SAM battery. He didn't move again. Corporal Sarpedon, who had been exchanging maps just a few minutes earlier, ran and grabbed the weapon, hitting the ground hard next to Black.
"Orders, sir?" he yelled, as fire continued to pummel the dwindling platoon.
"Take out the goddamn SAMS!"
Sarpedon fired. The weapon had a range of almost half a kilometer, easily capable of hitting the SAM batteries in the area. A platoon sergeant fired another before he was hit squarely in the chest. He fell on his back and was dragged behind a boulder.
Black checked in, "Sergeant! You ok?"
"Can't keep taking hits like this, sir!"
Black called in the Peregrines as his men started scrambling for the Osprey. There weren't many left. He popped smoke and frag grenades as he started running back himself.
If you've never seen a Peregrine in-flight, it's quite remarkable. They use a canard-rotor setup, allowing them to transition extremely quickly between hovering and rapid flight. Although they seem ungainly in action, it only serves to terrify the forces they're arrayed against. Of course, the transition also leaves them vulnerable to being hit.
There would be a little of both today. The risk from further SAMs was acceptable, so both escorts came blazing down on the barracks, firing their 30mm cannon and dropping bombs into buildings, vehicles, and men.
The Blub Colony

Blub Occupation Zone
The one kilometer by one kilometer zone marked off by a semi-circle of orange construction paint still had the Blub Colonial flag planted on it. The single landing craft was beached now, and the three Blubs who had come with it sat under the trees near the beach looking out over the water. A big tent had been set up, a cook pit dug and crates of supplies dragged over. A cozy little home for the trio.
One of them was asleep, mouth forming a cute little O while he drooled and snored. The other two stared at the water, chittering back and forth quietly as they played a game of cards. This place sure was quiet. The Colony would be so proud to have a 'foreign' land holding.

The Settlement at Cape Mattan
The situation at the barracks rapidly devolves into chaos as soldiers of both sides are cut down in the extremely close-range engagement. One Manthian tosses a grenade at a Lost Hills soldier holding a rocket launcher. An instant later he and the men near him are cut down by the 30mm on one of the Peregrines. A few hundred meters back a sniper takes a careful shot, unaware of another Lost Hills soldier aiming at him. He has just a few moments to savor the kill before he too falls.
The three Praetorian IIs at this barracks are overwhelmed quickly by Lost Hills Rockets, only one missile successfully launched between the three of them. However, the forty-seven more scattered at various points around Cape Mattan will doubtless prove more of a problem. To the Praetorians, designed to detect and engage aircraft at a maximum range of hundreds of kilometers, the Lost Hills helicopters only a few kilometers away present very large targets.
Meanwhile, ground forces are mobilizing as well, as an urgent radio calls from the outer barracks, combined with the sound of distant gunfire, has alerted the Manthians to the distant combat. The Nakils had already been warmed up when initial contact with an unknown force had been reported, and in under a minute the first wave of a dozen tanks is rolling towards the barracks even as Praetorian missiles streak overhead. It seems that the Lost Hills men may have bitten off quite a bit more than they can chew.
Ruined city
It is here all right... once the team had entered the underground complex, radiation had been detected in abnormally high amounts, and traces of various chemical agents had been detected as well. Apparently there had been some kind of leak during the time since the city had been destroyed. Leaving the regular soldiers to suit up in their own NBC suits, the disposal squad proceeds further in.
"Hell." one whispers. "There must be billions worth of weapons here? Fucking nuclear warheads too!"
"A lot of it might be damaged, though. Can't stay in here too long, even in the suits."
"Wait, what's this?"
One soldier points to a case of vials, the glass rimmed with frost.
"Don't know. We'll take them back for analysis, along with anything else that's small enough to carry and isn't contaminated. We got to clear out of here soon, though, we're nearing the danger levels for radiation exposure."
"Got that sir. Looks like they need to be kept cold."
"See to it that they are. Now fall back! We'll get a better-equipped team in here to do a full assessment as soon as we can get them here."
One of the men carefully places the vials in an insulated case as other members of the team take gather other weapons and take quick samples before leaving.
Outside
"Stop right there!" one soldier yells, aiming a carbine at the approaching car. After the jeep, the Manthians aren't taking any chances.

Black wasn't even secured the Osprey when it took off, carrying the tattered remains of his platoon and the foreign Captain in its hold. One of the chiefs continued firing a 25mm airburst cannon from the ramp at the Manthians, trying to suppress enemy fire. The Osprey flew off, leaving the Peregrines to deal with the base.
The Peregrine pilots saw the Osprey was away and moved to fly out, launching several dozen Sky Needle anti-tank missiles at the Arca IVs as they flew backward. Both were hit by SAMs, with the aircraft and pilots being complete losses.
The Osprey was not hit, likely because the Manthians didn't want to kill their Captain. His men rested as the transport flew back to a frontier outpost, so Black radioed in to request for an air strike:
Mission failure. Manthian forces remain in control of the river. Severe underestimation of enemy force strength. Recommend bombardment and armored assault.
He paused and added:
Enemy prisoner is secure. Request instructions.
A reply came almost immediately:
Recommendation noted. Hold prisoner at Outpost 468 under guard. Refit and prepare for assault.
Black sighed. It looked like it would be just the beginning.
The Bay at New Athens
Captain Agrippa studied the intelligence reports with great interest. He was used to attacking surface combatants, dreadnoughts, aircraft carriers, battlecruisers and the like, not land targets. But his crew was trained and ordered to do it, so he supposed he had to.
Reports of a skirmish with the Manthians had been flying throughout the fleet even before Black's men had returned to the Osprey.
Typical. We knew he was damned even before he did.
Intelligence had been ample, as Lost Hills maintained a substantial network of satellites monitoring the situation. Agrippa had watched as Black clocked the big Manthian in the face. He saw the teeth being knocked out.
Well, his orders were to prepare his armory ship for a bombardment mission, so that's what he would do, although it wasn't particularly difficult. He merely had to decide what arming patterns his 5,000 Tigersword missiles would utilize when raining down on the Manthian settlements, as well as what loadouts they would carry. He hoped it wouldn't come down to an actual fire mission.
The Tigerswords were relatively new to the Navy. A recent purchase from OMASC/NDI, they were stealthy and modular, being able to carry either a 1000kg HE warhead, 370 submunitions, or a 630kg penetrator round. Pretty deadly stuff.
Again, Agrippa hoped it wouldn't come down to that. Looking over what maps were available of the settlement, he decided on a 60/40 loadout in favor of cluster munitions. The tanks would have to be dealt with later.
He hoped to the Gods that, for once, diplomacy would work.

The C-130's containing the Marine teams flew over the combat zone. Team Beta dropped out first, waiting until the last minute to unfold their parachutes. One parachute didn't open in time however, and the marine was wounded as he landed, giving him a limp but not preventing him from continuing on. Team Delta dropped out seconds later, also waiting to open their parachutes. Their was no trouble with their landing, and they quickly moved to the preset meeting point in the ruins of the city. The final team, Team Omega, dropped out and activated their parachutes quickly, attempting to review the area from above as satellites could only do so much.
Teams Beta and Delta quickly proceeded to the target. A geiger counter being carried around began to act up, and the Marines got suited up in environmental suits, continuing onward stealthily and quietly. They soon came upon multiple New Manthian soldiers and HAZMAT teams, going in and out of the target position and clearly already in control. The Delta Team leader immediately called his commander aboard the C-130's who was already on his way out of the air zone.
"Sir, it looks like the New Manthians got here first. The area is swarming with them. Should we engage?"
"Negative. I doubt there are enough for you to take out safely, and we don't want this turning into a major incident. I'll see if we can contact their command and get permission to enter the area, but whatever you do, don't give yourselves away."

Command
Cigar smoke filled the map room as the Generals clustered around a high table and pondered. A new installment in the bowels of a mountain complex, the table had a real-time strategic map outlining friendly and hostile troop positions.
The majority of the map was decidedly hostile.
"You're all fools for having started this to begin with. Now how will we end it? War? Destruction? Pestilence?"
The Generals straightened up and watched as Uhr, General of the Army, strode into the dark room, a coven of aides following behind him. The staff officers had planned and executed the mission without prior approval from him, and he was extremely displeased.
"You are all ignorant fools!" Uhr shouted at the cowering men. "Do you understand what you've done? We are now knee-deep in a conflict that will likely end in all of our deaths, and you are squarely to blame. I expect you to come up with a plan to get us out of this."
"We have, sir. A strategic bombardment of enemy land fortifications and positions should confuse the enemy enough for us to drop in our troops. Captain Agrippa of the Naughton reports he is ready to attack. LtCol. Metellus of one of our paratrooper divisions is preparing his men as we speak."
Uhr said nothing, but the look on his face indicated it was not a very good plan.
"Erm...does the General have another solution?"
"We will hold and consolidate for now. Bring the armor to the forward outposts, along with the heavy infantry. Begun running regular CAPs around our major bases on the frontier, and make sure we have an AWACS bird up at all times."
"We need to take the river at some point, sir. It's the key to the entire damn continent."
"I know. Let's see how things pan out."
"And what about our prisoner?"
"Hold him for now. Let's see if they want him back."
The Garrison at Outpost 468
Outpost 468 was located deep in a coniferous forest, on the border of the colonies. It defended a valley and river, located on a hill and commanding the entire region. A very good defensive position. Perfect place for a prisoner.
With most of his men dead, Black was sullen as the Osprey touched down on the helipad. Well, at least I've got this brute to mess around with. He could see armored vehicles rumbling in from a road to the north: APCS, IFVs, various mobile artillery and air defense vehicles. Quite the assembly.
He had four men left. Two had died while in transit, so his mighty platoon was reduced to a light fireteam. Somewhat depressing.
Black delivered the Manthian Captain to the Master-At-Arms, removed his armor, found a rack, and passed out. It had been a long day.
The Ruined City
Pylaemenes was no fool. His light unit was no match for the combined forces of three armies. He called up the MHX-20s to a discreet location on the outskirts of the city and extracted.
The Air Station at New Mycenae
Another border city, New Mycenae was a bustling town of 15,000, most of whom served as contractors or aides to the substantial army and air force base there.
The air station was new, like so many other things in the colonies, and a squadron of stealth fighters was preparing to take off for a patrol. New Mycenae was the closest major base to the Manthian frontier, and the pilots here were anxious.
Blackjack Squadron took off with Black-1 in the lead, followed by the 15 other TSF-620A Xeon air superiority fighters in the squadron. These were not new; they had been serving with the Air Force for years, and these pilots had all logged hundreds of hours in the cockpit.
The Xeons were optimized for stealthiness, each carrying 8 AAMs of varying type in their internal weapons bay. The aircraft vectored to the southeast, very close to the Manthian frontier. Command was probing to see how the Manthians would react, and Blackjack Squadron was on the frontlines.
OOC: No, only one of the samples is 28 days later. The others are much different. Thats my hint.
1 more hint, the most unique sample happened to have a little problem with causing depression.

Kubra, you mind updating map 3?
The Garrison at New Troy
New Troy was not as bustling as New Mycenae. In fact, it was entirely composed of the military forces of the Republic, come to exercise some semblance of control over the river. It was placed on the shore, with a dock and airbase already assembled.
Colonel Demophon was in command of the base, leading almost 2,500 infantrymen, a couple hundred or so tanks and other armored vehicles, and many squadrons of escort aircraft, transports, attack helicopters, bombers, and fighters. He even commanded the gunboat and frigate squadron patrolling the river. A mighty force for sure. The Manthians probably wouldn't be happy about it, but then, that might be the point of the whole expedition.
The base was set up very quickly, capitalizing on modular construction techniques and the capabilities of Space Union-produced heavy transport aircraft. There was no attempt at stealthiness; Command was looking for a show of force. No one would be challenging Lost Hills' dominance here.
Most surprising to Demophon was what Command had put at his disposal: Captain Pylaemenes' spec-ops squad. A helpful tool for any situation.
Construction and development of the main colony continued at a rapid pace as well, with the frontier being pushed every day. The "final" claim was still a couple hundred kilometers from New Troy, but was the farthest structured settlement had ever pushed into the continent.
Demophon was ordered to secure the river at all costs, which meant the elimination or co-optation of any foreign entities in the area. Cape Mattan wasn't far away, and the Colonel started drawing up plans for a proper assault.

"Here we are," Mike said opening the door. "Wait here please," Then Mike walked inside closing the door behind him. After a few minutes he came back.
"You guys can go in now, if you guys are staying come over by barracks B. Me and the guys are throwing a party, come if you want." Mike said before walking away.

New Manthian Colonial Defense Authority, Official Statement
"In response to unprovoked acts of aggression against New Manthian troops and civilians, the CDA has exercised the authority granted to it by the Denomination of Strategy and the Corporate Council under Act 08-4367, paragraph II, and has extended New Manthian territorial claims in the western continent to form a defensive buffer between out settlements and possible enemy forces. Forces belonging to the Republic of Lost Hills will be destroyed on sight if found within these borders. Any neutral forces currently operating within these borders are hereby given a 24-hour grace period to withdraw."
Ultimatum to the Republic of Lost Hills, 19:00 Local Time
"At 09:41 today, Lost Hills forces engaged in an unprovoked attack against New Manthian military and civilian personnel at the settlement of Cape Mattan. The New Manthian government demands an official apology, prosecution of those involved in the attack, return of any New Manthian personnel held by the Republic of Lost Hills, and restitution payments to be decided upon once the sum of damage caused is clearly known.
This offer expires in 24 hours."
Across the Colony
With the domestic situation seemingly stabilized for now, there are more personnel available. Over the coming weeks, another forty thousand soldiers will join the fifty thousand soldiers and million and a half civilians now present in the colonies. Meanwhile, Command begins to shift forces from the populous eastern colonies to the west. Since the Lost Hills attack, jets are patrolling the western skies twenty-four hours a day.
Vetalian Colony
Two Indestructable-class aircraft carriers, the first of the large fleet of ships the Kriegzimmer is building for New Manth, are due to arrive soon. Until their escorts are also completed, however, the carriers alone would be vulnerable in New Manthian waters. For this reason, the Denomination of the Navy has chosen to dock both carriers in the ports of its ally, Vetalia, while the ships' escorts are completed and they are fitted out with aircraft.
OOC: New claim: http://s148.photobucket.com/albums/s20/Coriat/?action=view¤t=claim3.jpg The lines within my territory mark where my previous borders were; there's no appreciable infrastructure outside those borders, just air patrols from jets and UAVs. Essentially the plan is to remove the possibility of a suprise attack at assets just across the border, by moving the border away from the assets ;)
Will address the ruined city thing next post, must run now.

The Command Building at New Athens
"A little streak of arrogance, don't you think?"
Uhr looked at the ultimatum in disdain. It always amazed him what lengths people would go to to maintain their "national honor" or "terrirory." People should just know not to fight with Lost Hills. The expansion of the colony borders was a direct challenge to the Republic.
Ah well. They'd soon see.
Uhr barked at a communications officer. "Transmit the following to the New Manthian government. You have 24 hours to rescind the order that expanded your borders and return all forces to the original colony. You will remit control over the river to Lost Hills. If you do not do these things within 24 hours, your Captain's head will be sent to you in a box of salt."

Lost Hills threats have little impact - if the Captain were returned he would probably find himself facing a court-martial anyway. However, the other demands of the Lost Hills government are more of a cause for concern. Messages are being transmitted to the colonies owned by Vetalia, Kampfers, Aurum Domus, Marckov, and Lifesblood - Manth's allies on the continent - asking if their governments would be willing to exert diplomatic pressure on the Lost Hills government. No formal requests for military assistance have been made, other than to Vetalia to shelter New Manthian carriers, but a warning is enclosed that if Lost Hills does not back down from its demands, the situation may escalate.
Reply to Lost Hills ultimatum
"New Manth will not cede its lawful territory to illegal aggression. Lost Hills has no legal basis to demand New Manthian territory, nor to attack New Manthian personnel. Our previous statement stands."
Ruined City, previous day
"Wait, that couldn't have been the guy on the radio, could it?" says one of the Manthian officers.
"Don't know. Seems to have some idea what's going on..."
"Well find out what he knows!"
After this hurried exchange, one of the officers shouts to a group of soldiers to bring the Kubran in, sans car and any weapons he may be carrying. A group of soldiers cautiously approaches the car. One motions with his carbine for the man to get out of his car.
"Lieutenant says you're to come with us, sir. Wants to know what you know about this whole thing."

"Hello, I'm General Grave Davits. How may I help you?" Said The General who was wearing camo just like everyone else. His aid was also right next to him too with paper in his hand.
