Commanding Officer's Log of Colonel Frank Winters, BC-303 USS Helios
Six hours ago, a scout ship of the Free Jaffa Nation reported to the SGC unusually high energy readings and unidentified transmissions coming from a system long believed to be devoid of life. Being the only capital ship not currently in refit, the Helios is under orders to investigate.
Switching off the recorder, Winters turned to the view of hyperspace in front of him. A tense atmosphere pervaded the bridge. The BC-303 was a ship designed at the height of a conflict to be produced fairly quickly, and as cheaply as possible. Helios was one of the original run of ships, and although it had recently been refitted with the recently acquired Asgard technology, it was as cramped and dark as ever on the bridge.
"Approaching target location, reverting to real space at your command, sir."
"Revert."
"Aye sir."
The ship pulled out of hyperspace in a highly visible cloud of energy, rapidly decelerating, gradually stopping completely.
"Sensors?"
"We're picking up inhabitants, sir. We can't be sure of the extent of habitation yet, but it's surprising. They must've been quick about it. A ship just showed up on mid-range scans, sir."
"Open up a channel."
"Aye, sir."
"This is Earth starship Helios, here on a peaceful mission of exploration and diplomacy. Please identify yourselves."
Helios stood still in space, unshielded and weapons uncharged, hoping for a friendly response.
