To: People of Trinidad and Tobago and Nations of the World

Today we can finally announce, with conflicts in the USSM between the NAR, them and the UR finally dying down that democratic elections will finally take place in the savaged islands of Trinidad and Tobago, observed by the WEF. After much screening by our observers and early rounds of voting the following three candidates have been put up for the vote:

Mr. Franco Castro of the T&T Manifesto Socialist Party
Age: 56
Description: Born in Cuba in the 50’s, Franco is an authoritarian left candidate who was once the leader of a rebel fraction that supported the USSM invasion against the former ruler. Widely regarded as a popular figure in some areas of T&T, he finished a close third in the early rounds and went through, though his outspoken views against Western Policies and for the complete independence of the Caribbean in this warring world have seen him become unpopular with powerful nations.

Miss. Shayla Trinidad of the Western World United For T&T Party
Age: 39
Description: The sister of the surprise brother and sister combo that have entered the election, Shayla’s second name may suggest she is patriotic, but she is more interested in developing the country. Her focus is to become a member of the TA or Entente, and therefore open up trade routes and business opportunities – she wishes to expand the economy and provide a better, richer life for her citizens. Widely seen as the most popular Western Candidate, her finishing place in the election was a surprise second – many believed she would beat her brother.

Mr. Ravi Trinidad of the T&T Independence Party
Ages: 44
Description: Ravi is a Trinidad man born and bred, and his laid back attitude has gained him massive support with voters and a finishing spot of #1 in early rounds. His views are strong; workers rights, increasing economic strength whilst remaining totally independent and neutral to foreign affairs – and requesting that many nations keep there nose out of his business. Though, he strongly opposes American expansion, and all expansion, into the Caribbean – he believes these small countries at least deserve their independence.

Please vote for your candidate of preference.

OOC: This is only minor and not really deserving of its own thread – but I needed a poll and everything counts right? ;) If there is a draw in the votes, it will go down to the ‘peoples vote’ (though ICly it is a democratic election) in which basically I chose the winner. Please can all ESS nations vote. Bearing in mind for some this is quite important, I stress quite, as a couple have candidates put forward by them in there – and with AB’s invasion of the Caribbean starting up, there will be a difference in how an ex-rebel leader responses to these threats to a European influenced democratic (the former, probably with force). I’ve made all the candidates completely different, as I expect peoples votes will be influenced by which government type they prefer.

VOTE IS PUBLIC - to make sure all will vote, just to make you aware. Closes in two days.

OOC: Two days too late, but it has come. I was going to do a big post, but I lost it so I can’t be bothered to do it again. Anyway…

UK NEWS NETWORK

A familiar smiling face greeted the eager audiences as the news began.

“Good evening WEF and thank you for tuning into the UK News Network. Our headline news today is that just two hours ago the results for the general elections of Trinidad and Tobago came in – and the new President of the islands, with 46.67% of the vote, is Western supported Shayla Trinidad.

Celebrations in Trinidad have already begun.

It seemed that the people of Trinidad decided that a highly economically focused government would be best for them after the troubles of the last year, and that the other candidate, brother Ravi, would see them stuck in there current situation if they remained quiet, whilst Franco would plunged them into an Authorial communist regime – what they had fought against the USSM to stop. Though, both these figures gained much public support – and it was close voting.

In a survey by our government we also found out what the major nations or alliances of nations in the world thought. The following nations had 1000 citizens polled, and by no surprise Shayla was found to have popular support from the more powerful nations, with citizens of Russia, America, the WEF and GGA saying they wish for her to be in power, along with voices from nearby neighbours of the CAE . Franco on the other hand had more support from the fighting nations of Brazil and the USSM, and with a surprise 60% or so of people from Eastern Asia (the USSW and the Greater Empire) supporting him to be elected. Ravi found African support as 59% and 67% of people from the Central African Empire and the Empire of Futuris said they wished for his neutral approach to be present in the countries politics.

Finally, during her acceptance speech Shayla said “she hoped all nations would help the progressive Trinidad and Tobago focus on the economy and social justice” and said “she is interested in support from both alliances, and does not wish for the nation to join one currently” but further added “I thank the WEF for there presence in the country, and request it remains there for the next year whilst I stabilize things, and then I will permit a withdrawal of these troops”. When asked about the American Caribbean invasion situation she said “I decline to comment” hinting perhaps that she is willing to remain neutral on the subject.
