Phoenix Dynamix is pleased to announce the release of two new weapons systems that will revolutionize the battlefield.

First the AL-1 Laser Rifle

The AL-1 or Assault Laser-1 Rifle is the most advanced example of a handheld laser weapon. The AL-1 gives the user accurate 1 hit kill capability at 1500meters. Each power pack is capable of 20 shots in 2 minutes. The power packs insert at the break action section of the buttstock. The weapon features a built in sight and removable forward grip, plus a folding bi pod! The complete system only weighs 28lbs and can blast any soldier out of his boots or smash a light truck's engine into smithereens !!

The laser costs a mere $15,000 Power packs cost $50,000 each

Next we have the latest in active defense systems.
Introducing the all new Sentinel Shield System or SSS-3

The SSS-3 can be installed on an armored vehicle or building and can stop incoming projectiles and explosives at will. Once activated the shield will incinenrate or melt almost any known projectile or explosive device. It can be linked with the radar system of the FCLAS to make it fully automated or it can be command activated. Only a mere $3 million per system!Power must be provided by the end user

What I'd like to see is a wooden torpedo.

Well, it was an 'April Fools' joke but then he made it for real.

No, we were referring to TPM.

TPM... you are a moron.

You can't see a laser beam for one.
Two, you can't force a kill on anyone.
Three, lasers don't 'smash' they vaporize.
Four, how can you POSSIBLY fit a 'kill' power into a laser for main use?
Five....'the shield' is ineffective and crass and would never be adopted, how about sticking to more typical threat eliminate needs.

Its far enough in the future to be plausible, the article was talking about a 2009 prototype these are 2045 production models :p

The article also happens to be so contradictory to be laughable..

No its not. You have to still obey the laws of physics, conservation of energy and mass and be realistic about what kind of demands they need. Both of which are implausible and inherently idiotic in design and nature.
