GASN Heads of Government Meeting [Closed] [ATTN: GASN members]

Northern Colonies
24-04-2007, 14:31
Freedom International Airport
Freedom City, State of Freedom, Northern Colonies
0900 ZULU

Last minute preparations were under way. This was to be the first major international event the Northern Colonies and the Department of Foreign Affairs were insistent that everything was perfect. And then the rains came. Manna from the heavens some would say...

"Oh fucking hell," cried Alexander Peters, the Minister for Foreign Affairs. "The Met people were certain that it wasn't going to rain."

"Oh well," said John Anderson, the Prime Minister of the Northern Colonies. "It's only pretty light."

The Supreme Governor of the Colonies, Jonathan O'Brien cast a glancing look at Peters' use of language. It was enough to unnerve him.

Then came the noise of a hundred umbrellas. The Department wanted it to be perfect.

Being an important meeting, the airport was fuelled with plenty of security, more than was probably rational. This was due to the fear of one of the member nations. Soldiers from the Supreme Governor’s Grenadier Guards, a regiment of the Colonial Army were stationed near the Supreme Governor. Their black clothing, with golden yellow marking their ranks, and shiny medals might have made them a vulnerable target. Looks deceive however, as most of them has gone through Special Forces training as a part of recruitment.

The Corps of the Protection of Ministers and Diplomats, a unit of the Federal Investigative Bureau, were assigned to protect the Heads of Governments themselves. Many of them were dressed in their daggy military uniform. This was a throwback to the time when the Corps was part of the army. The uniformed were assigned to protect the buildings and vehicles assigned for the Heads of Governments. Plain clothes men from the same division were assigned to the close body protection of the Heads of Government. In addition, each Heads of Government were allowed to bring up to four men armed with any weapon up to a Submachine gun.

The Freedom City State Police were out in force. A line of them were on the barrier, defending the Heads from the curious media and other onlookers.

The preparation were now set, it now just waited for the Heads to come.

OOC: skipping relevant header for diplomatic message

IC:
Message:

Due to our far flung ministers and deputy ministers of foriegn affairs, they shall not be able to attend, instead, we shall send a pair of CHIA operatives, acting as both diplomats, envoys, and their own bodygaurd.

They are rather fresh and raw, so they shouldn't have too many mental issues, though we shall incude a survey in which you my fill out so that we may grade their perfomance in the field.

Criteria include:
Curtousy to other attendants
Dilligence to their mission
Competance on current events
Effective use of their time, and your time
Correct use of facilities and supplies issued
Problem solving capabilities
Any signs of homocidal insanity or potential security risks
The attendants shall be Agent Scott Riddley, guided by veteran Agent Mendez throughout their stay.

Both shall be armed with standard Hurtian issue HAP-655 PDWs, bayonet, and a fixed blade shovel.
They shall arrive later in the afternoon by parachute, their landings shall be graded.
Please don't shoot them down... Disabling any automated ABMs would be helpful...
Reason (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81gn2oLeC_U), except he'll be strapped to an (Air launched) ASAT rather than a balloon...
On a ballistic trajectory... and with a lower aprogee than 100,000 feet...
An ABM would make their chances of survival doubtful...

IC:
10 hours ago:
New Roanoke Island.

An old Hurtian B-52 sat idling on the tarmac, ground crews scurried about, under the belly was nestled a single 'missile' with a pair of 'drop tanks' [1] (http://www.designation-systems.net/dusrm/m-34.html).*

The bomber was to fly within 1500 nautical miles from the landing zone, while at an altitude of 50,000 feet and then the 'missile' would carry its load to the landing zone at 75,000 feet, whereupon it would release its load and return, hopefuly to be retrieved by the waiting B-52. [1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulton_surface-to-air_recovery_system) [2] (http://www.designation-systems.net/dusrm/m-34.html)

Inside the crew compartment of the converted obsolete bomber, the flight crew ran through a detailed and lengthy checklist of things that could go wrong, especially the ones that concerned their cargo.

Agents Riddley and Mendez were being prepared for their high altitude 'jump' in a neaby hangar, by donning pressure suits, and breathing almost pure oxygen, as any nitrogen in the bloodstream would expand considerably at over 70,000 feet, causing otherwise undue risk and complecations.

They were cleared for takeoff 3 minutes later.

2 hours ago:
Somewhere in the air, near Northern colonies

Agents Mendez and Riddley tried to pass time talking to each other on a closed loop communication, which also allowed the bomber crew to talk to them in case of emergency. Mendez, though not new to being dropped from planes in an unorthadox manner, as he had spent the last 5 hours of the trip recounting how he survived a passenger plane crash full of diplomats en route to a nuclear arms limitation conferrance, with himself inside, caused by explosives, as well as the late Agent Dimitree's case of 'jumping' out of a tactical bomber without a parachute during a bombing run, surviving those injuries only to die of a single sniper bullet on a completely unrelated mission...

"Saddle up boys, drop zone in 30..."

One of the bomber crew members was trying to sound like a jumpmaster, and was doing a rather poor job of it, though his occassional interjections helped the two men tell how long they sat in their flying coffins sucking on compressed oxygen fed from the B-52, relying on the drone's and then their own self contained air supply on the other two legs.

"See you guys on the far side, try and land in one piece, OK?"

Mendez made a quick reply just before the drone's launch severed communication between himself and the bomb crew.

"And you try and recover the drone without breaking it"

The drone shuddered a bit as it fell clear, the bomber conducting an accelerating turn away from the missile immediately after release while closing its bomb bay doors.

Riddley almost enjoyed this part, as the rocket booster kicked in a pressed them towards the back of their pods, followed by the feel of 'normal' jet engine propulsion, which were in fact, ramjets, and they were going at mach 2.60, in an gradual climb from from 50,000 to 75,000 feet, navigation now conducted via the drone's inertial navigation for the next hour, the two went over a checklist of what to do in order to safely reach the ground.

5 minutes ago:
75,000 feet above Freedom International Airport, Northern colonies
The old modified Firebee ejected the two out the rear end of their pods, and turned back for the B-52, jammers blazing, which, in the event of an ABM launch, would target the now unmanned Firebee rather than the two agents, occasionally, if one watched the fast moving speck closely, you could see a massive volley of flares and chaff billowing from the carrier vehicle as it made a hasty retreat.

The two agents made a back-first descent, using the large drag and surface area to create a detached shock wave and to prevent them from burning up during the fall.

Now:
Freedom International Airport
The two agents were now clearly visable, main chutes now opening, except something appeared wrong, as one of the two quickly overtook the other and was falling much faster, a detailed look would reveal why, his main chute was entangled on his legs, and streaming behind him, forcing him into a face first freefall. He could be seen trying to shake off the troublesome chute, which eventually did come off, and deploy his resserve chute and make a landing in a neaby lake/pond.

Agent Riddley landed shortly afterwards on a helipad, and though his helmet and visor covered his face, or any semblance that he was a human being, one could immediately tell he was very worried about the safety of Agent Mendez.

And it was raining...

*AQM-34Q /w/ 'people pods' rather than drop tanks, though specs are closer to the Tu-123 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tupolev_Tu-123), D-21 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_D-21/M-21), and AQM-91 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_AQM-91_Firefly).

Interestingly, the BGM-34A (slightly modified Firebee target drone) has been successfully used as a launch vehicle for the AGM-65 Maverick AT-ASM since 1971... They just couldn't loiter well enough to be suitable RP-CAS...

There was a reason for that. The Hurtian representative had landed first.

When the men hit the ground, the band began to play the Hurtian national anthem. The Prime Minister was the first to walk to the two men.

"Hello," he began, with a smile. "My name is John Anderson. Welcome to the Northern Colonies"

Not paying attention to the crowd growing aound him, Agent Ridley stumbled as fast as he could over to Mendez's motionless figure.

It groaned.

Ridley gave a small sigh of relief...

"Are you all right"?

"No...", mendez made a vague motion of his arm in the direction of his legs.

"Leg broke again"

And sure enough, laying under him, was his calf, in a position no leg should be in, and hanging on by a few tendons, his flight suit being soaked in blood.

Ridly refully rolled Mendez onto his back, and then cut the left leg of his flight suit off, revealing a compound fracture, meaning that bone was sticking out.

Using the blood soaked rag of the flight suit, he promptly tied a tournequet, and checked his watch, making note of the time he had cut circulation to his leg, thus, stopping the bleeding for now.

Talking in a calm manner, asking Mendez what hapened wrong and some rther simple questions aimed at distracting him from his injuries, as he rummaged through his first aid kit, silently wondering where those Northern Colonial paramedics are...

He had just found a syringe of painkillers and redi-clot as Mendez was finishing with Ridley's last question.

The other leg was snapped in two like a twig, and lay some ten yards away, wood and metal splinters clearly visable, along with some bits of electrical wiring and brown fluid leaking out...

While looking at the detached prostetic, twitching on the grass, its servos still groaning, he came up with another question, mostly out of curiosity.

"Why do you keep doing this kind of stuff? It'l get you killed someday..."

"Better me than some youngster who hasn't even lived before they die, and besides, I'm the most qualified..."

Upon realising that Mendez had in fact broken his leg, the John Anderson shouted at his assistants.

"Get an ambulance, NOW!" He shouted.

Voices whispered behind the police line as the crows wondered what was going on. However, it was soon obvious as sirens echoed across the airport.

The Freedom State Ambulance Service ambulance roared across the runway towards Mendez, it's blue and red light flashing like madmen. The ambulance soon stopped and parked next to Mendez. The doors opened, and two people, dressed in uniform, ran out.

"Move out of the way, gentlemen," asked one of them.

They walked towards Mendez with a medical bag in tow.

"Hello, my name is Andy," asked one of them. "Can I examine your leg?"

The modified IAL-4 designated Imperial One touched down at Freedom International Airport, escorted by two carrier-based CF-1 Banshees. The aircraft began to taxi towards the terminal, and soon enough Emperor Robert II and his staff and guards were on the ground.

Robert stroked the holster which lay under his suit jacket, in it sitting a CS-12 4.9mm sidearm. His guards mostly carried CPW-15 personal defense weapons, in the same caliber as their sidearms. For the most part the heavy guns were left at home, however a team of geared-up Imperial Guardsmen sat on Imperial One at the ready at any moment.

The Emperor and his entourage slowly made their way towards the first Northern Colonial greeting party it saw.

IC:
Agent Mendez's leg had broken at the knee, and the foot was facing toe-in towards his stotmach, caused by landing with hard forward movement while in a 'back heavy' position, legs extended, causing leverage to rip the tendons and break the knee.

There are other potental injuries, such as neck head, lungs, ribs, hip, and arms, though the arms appear fine and free to move.

Agent Ridley, noticing he was being relieved, decided to deflate Mendez's parachute before it would start dragging him around the field in the heavy gusts of wind.

Ridley waved goodbye as he was carted into the ambulance to be treated.

Mendez's only words when he was in the ambulance:
"Don't you dare cut off that leg..."

OOC:
The leg is repairable, but it would requre the surgeon to reconect the arteries and viens, while under anethstetic, followed by a spinal tap, then the tendons and nerves would be reconected, he'd be out for about 3 to 6 months [mostly as the nuerosurgeons figure out which nerves go where, he could be fixed to a stable -wheelchair- condition in about a day; plus, those tendons and nerves can't all be reconnected in one spinal tap session, and there must be a week's recouperation between taps...]

Or you could just cut it off...
