News Republic, Bulgia Republic

President Grigore Istok is a man unrestrainable, embodiment of the nation! Coining the term Bulgian Advance he, today, entreats the masses to begin their new work, their great walk.

For years Bulgia has languished as its people toiled under the old conditions. The new Republic and its first government, that of Costel Nechita, darling of the Bulgian Socialist Workers Party, speaks of a drastic change in labour relations, which must be brought about through the bravery of stoic Bulgians, who have worked so long for so little, and now intend to work so hard for so much.

The guilds are torn down, the field-dividing walls with them, revolution will be seen in the on-going actions of party and people.

Istok warns Bulgia Republic that, for the first time, it will have from its labours something to lose, something that others will envy, and insists that the Nechita Parliament must look promptly to the defences.

"Sons and daughters of Bulgia - we are famously brave - our Republic does us justice - we are, now and forever, for all the world to see, United and Prepared!"
-Grigore Istok, President Bulgia Republic

-News Republic, though officially independent, is yet to seriously criticise the Republic, the Office of the President, or the B-SWP. It is noted, currently, as much for its editorials and opinion as for real news content.

Outside disinterest in self-proclaimed Bulgian prosperity is likely to go unnoticed by a people unaware of the exact nature of a television and still moderately impressed by the annual tractor parade, or whatever it is, with its T-34/85s.

Background

The Bulgian people are believed to have originated from the gradual merger of Slavic barbarian nomads and Roma communities, both of which settled in the area of historic Greater Bulgia.
During the Middle Ages Bulgia hosted several fleeting principalities and other independent domains, falling at various times under the influence of numerous foreign powers, though it has rarely been fully conquered and subjugated.
During the Great War Bulgia sided with the Central Powers and fought hard for a nation of its diminutive size, only to doom itself to great hardship come the Second World War, when, astoundingly, the little statelet opposed the Axis, and was promptly over-run and occupied by numerous Fascist-aligned powers.
For the second half of the twentieth century Bulgia languished between East and West, introspective and harmless, crippled by occupation and generously-termed liberation. Only recently has the Bulgian Republic been proclaimed and an authoritarian democracy established, with much power vested in the steely presidency of Grigore Istok.
