"My brothers.......as Southerners.........as Whites........we must be united. This date...December 23, 1860 shall be a day of infamy. I make the call to my southern brethren to join South Carolina and end the tyrannical rule of these savages in the North. How is it Mr.Buchanans right to tell me what I can and cannot do with my Blacks? He has no right and I repeat no right to tell me that these niggers are equal to me. I am extending an offer to all Slave states of the United States of America to meet in the capital building in Charleston City, Charleston, The Republic of Sotuh Carolina tonight to discuss affirmative action...." spoke James Lawerence Orr outside of the US Senate building in Washington D.C. not long after Buchanan

President Buchanan sat down in his office in the White House. The Vice President John C. Breckinridge, Secretary of State Jeremiah S. Black and Secretary of War Joseph Holt were also there.

"Mister President as your Secretary of War i want to take action and retake South Carolina or we suffer.

"Mr.Holt i will not risk the lives of american citizens. The next president can worry about that but not me.

"But Mister President, Mr.Holt has a great idea and as vice president i urge you to send soldiers".

"I have stated already no,We could have a civil war on our hands and that will not happen on my watch."

The Secretary of State, Jeremiah S. Black opened the door.He looked mad and tired.

"Mister President that ass James Lawerence Orr spoke against your speech right after you.We must take action right now!! Before this gets worse".

"Mr.Black I said No!.This country will not enter a civil war under my powers as President.

The President left the office and went outside to rest. The country was going into madness. He smoked his pipe and tryed to dream about a nation without any slaves or slavery.

In Tennesse-
"Guvna, Guvna, are we gonna leave the Union?"
The governer smiled at the young child who had approached him on the street. "Son, in the constitution it states that a man has a right to own property. These slaves are our property. That damned yankee fool can't take them away on a whim! I tell you, I tell all, Tennesse will NOT stand for this. As of 4:10 on December 23, 1860, the state of Tennesse has officially sceded from the United States of America, to join its brothers and sisters in South Carolina. As a Southerner and slave owner, I now make a plea to all the other governers. Do not stand for this. Withdraw from the Union, and form a better country where a man truely has his rights!"

"I see...I've heard. I do believe that will work to our advantage. I dont see much reason as to why any slave state should not leave....HELL D.C. should secede, here I stand President James Lawerence Orr...and I shall not back down from the USA and neither shalt Tennesee!" Orr yelled at his secretary in a happy fury of words.

It was just another hot, humid, lazy day in Beaufort. Lemuel and Rufus were laying under an old oak tree, fishing poles dangling in the creek. "Lem, you think that we's a gonna be freed soon?" Rufus was the youngest slave child on the Wyeth Plantation. He worked the fields with his folks, but they were all treated a lot better than he'd heard about in other places.

"Dunno, Ruf. Them damn yankees want to take you an' all d'other slaves from us. Say we don't have the right to own another human being. What you say to that?" Lemuel Wyeth was Capt. Carl Wyeth's youngest son, one of six, with four girls besides.

Rufus thought some, then thought some more. "Well, y'know Lem, we's way down here in Lousian, and dey's way up dere in New York and such. Who says they can tell us'n what to do wit our stuff?"

This was a little too deep for young Lemuel. "I dunno about all them yankee goin's on, Ruf, but ah do know that mah daddy 'aint a'gonna let no one just waltz right in here and take what belongs to him."

Rufus bowed his head, looking at the ground between his feet. "Reckon y'all're right, Lem. And dat's why ah's afraid. Ah's real afraid....."

Governor. Moses Wisner stood forward on the podium to greet his eager audience. He stood next to Alexander W. Randall, Governor of Wisconsin, who had asked him to commence the speech. He would not stand for the slavery these Southern Nations committed to divide America, and he planned to voice his concerns. He stepped up, faced his spectators and began to speak:

"Today is the day of the beginning of freedom for many of our people. Sons, daughters - all citizens of America, it is time that we showed we live in a civilised country, and abolish and be rid of the vile act of slavery. The Northern American states of Michigan and Wisconsin will not stand by and watch the atrocities of the South go on any longer. As Governor of Michigan, and my fellow Governor W. Randal as governor of Wisconsin, we hereby announce that we support the President and the Union in all acts it commits to liberate his nation of the slave trade."

Cheers erupted from the crowd, as well as murmurs of worry. The gathered few hundred citizens of Detroit at the meeting did not want war, but feared that with a statement like this, they would be dragged into whatever the government pleased.

"I want you to march into D.C. and spark a rebellion. D.C. is a slave bearing district, well Buchanan is rather unpopular in the very city which he resides. Gather support and go in rifles afire into the city's heart." Orr spoke without much enthusiasm.

"Surely you gest." spoke a soldier

"Nah, son does it look like I be kiddin?!?" yelled the President with his southern slang which he hid, as he must speak proper he is a politician after all.

"But sir that is a suicide mission. You think of me insane?" asked the guard

"I will keel you heer BOI if you dont go march!!!!!" yelled Orr.

The guards gathered themselves and scurried out taking ammunition with them. The group began making their way out of the hotel room and toward the White House. As they stepped into the square not far from the White House, maybe about 110 Yards or so. The group charged toward the building loading their guns and beginning to fire.

In all 6 guards and 8 civillians were charging the WHite House. As the group got to close the clash became hand to hand, bayonette to bayonette. One soldier was able to hop the fence in the mass confusion and made his way to the White House door. As he came up the stairs he kicked open the door and ran up the staircase. Governor. Wisner was on his way to meet the President, well dressed and with his reserved wife and a small group of loyal armed Michigan trained soldiers with him. He was a few miles away from Washington when he spotted a man riding on a horse towards him, frantic and increasing in speed. The carriage stopped suddenly and Wisner jolted forward, and watched as the men got out of the carriage and raised their weapons at the incomer.

"Don't shoot! I'm a messenger from Washington!" The shouts grew clearer and soon he had stopped right outside the coach. The Governor gestured to his guards to lower their weapons, and calmly stepped out of the coach and looked up and at the man.

"Who are ye young man, and what message do you have for me?" He looked at him closely "Why, your the messenger who sent me the invitation from the President a few days ago."

"I am Sir, and I was returning to Washington as planned, but there were reports of fighting in the city, at the White House - the forces are only small, thought to be gunfire from anti-Unionist's Sir, so I rushed back hoping to meet you and warn you."

"Well, thank you - you have done your job well. I always knew that Buchanan was incompetent, can't even defend his own home. We will continue forward, then stop at the city outskirts and wait till the fighting has stopped."

And with that the Governor bid farewell to the messenger and boarded the coach, which started up again, heading to Washington to meet with the President.

Governor William H. "Billy" Lee rode up to the statehouse at a trot, jumped off his horse, and took the steps two at a time. He burst into the smoking room in the capitol building and declared, "Gentlemen, shots have been fired in Washington! The several states have seceded, and we are being asked where we stand."

Col. Vance Decatur, Florida's Secretary of State, said, "Well, Billy, where DO we stand?"

"I, and therefore we, stand for the South, sir. Need you ask?"

"Your family, sir, has for four generations backed the winning horse. I'd just hate to see you be the first to back the wrong one."

Lee's family included Marion "Swamp Fox" Lee, the hero of the American Revolution in Florida, as well as several of the distinguished Lee's of Virginia, not the least of which was his uncle, Robert E.

"Win or lose, sir, I cannot stand idle and watch our natonal constitution man-handled by the likes of Buchanan and company. We must defend our God-ordained way of life."

Orders, Governor?" This from the head of the Florida Militia, General Jeff Jackson.

"Well, Jeff, we're a long way from any immediate fighting. I'm gonna contact the governors in our neighboring states and come to some kind of consensus as to a course of action. Have your men ready, though. Drill 'em, march 'em, and then drill 'em some more."

"Yessir,right away sir."

Turning to his secretary, he said, "Miss Jane, would you kindly apprise Admiral Beauregard of the situation and have him contact me as to our sea-worthiness at his earliest conviniance?"

"Why, yes ah will, Govnuh Lee. Right directly."

General. Jay Wilson had been put in charge of the whole army of the Northern States of Michigan and Wisconsin. He had been instructed by the governors to make an army strong enough for the rest of America to marvel at, hundreds of thousands strong (it was believed there United Army was near 200,000) and well trained men, despite many of them being conscripts. They were preparing for the worst, but they did not want to lose too many of their men.

The two States would pledge no troops to Buchanan – his days were numbered and his Presidency was poor. Despite there strong support for the Union and the anti-slavery cause, they did not wish to openly support the current Presidency at this time. Instead they would wait for a successor to come in, which they knew would happen soon enough as unrest increased, and the ponder whether the Union required there help.

"Governer Morgan!"

Edwin was startled when his aid came streaming into his office.

"What is it?"

"There has been an attempt on Buchanan's life! Southerners has tried to shoot him dead in the white House!"

Morgan thought for a second as he leaned back in his chair. South Carolina has seceded, along with Tennessee and Florida, and now the Southerners seemed to be declaring war on the Union

"So this means we are going to fight?"

"I believe so sir"

"Then call up and drill the militia, and start making recruitment fliers. If those Southerners want to pick a fight, New York will be ready for them"

After a few months, nearly 300,000 volunteers had reported to the recruiting stations, and were being trained into the 1st through 250th New York Infantry Regiments, the 251st through 280th New York Cavalry Regiments, along with another 20,000 divided up into numerous Artillery regiments. New Jersey also begins recruiting soldiers for it's army, a total of 50,000 into the 1st through 35th New Jersey Regiments, the 36th through 45th cavalry regiments, and an additional 5,000 in the artillery. All 350,000 troops are currently under training and will be ready for military action by Spring 1861.

Governor Jim Delancoux sat at a table outside a tavern in New Orleans, dealing stud, the remnants of a cigar between his teeth. Seated across from him was a notorious gun-runner, Lucas Nitefield. On his right, a scout from up Texarkana way, name of Wolfson. To his left, the Queen of New Orleans, Miss AnnaBelle Archibold, likewise chewing ona cigar.

They were all bleary-eyed, having been up most of the night playing cards, drinking, and receiving the occasional report about "the situation up north".

"You gonna throw somthin' down, Govnuh, or are you gonna whistle dixie?"

Delancoux glared at the gun-runner, unable to focus properly. "You jes hold yore hosses there, Nitefield. Y'all 'aint goin' to be a'hurryin' me along."

Miss AnnaBelle threw her cards down. "I'm out. And I'm retiring for the evenin'. She stood to leave, and the three remaining players rose slightly out of their chairs, then sat back down without a response to the notorious Madam.

The governor tossed a gold dollar into the pot. "I'm raisin' y'all a dollar." He threw down a full house, queens high.

Wolfson tossed down his cards. "Too rich for me. 'Night y'all." As he meandered off, Nitefield spoke the obvious. "Jes you an' me, Govnuh. And ah do believe ah've got y'all beat." He showed his hand...........a straight to the ace.

Delancoux pounded the table with a fist. "Well shitfire and damnation! Thought I had ya there, Mr. Nitefield."

"That's what y'all get foah thinkin', Govnuh."

Nitefield gathered in his winnings and asked, "So what's Louisiana gonna do about the seccession question? Y'all gonna do it?"

Delancoux pondered a moment. "I don't see where I have any choice. We've our rights, and the northerners are trying to take 'em away. "Aint no southerner gonna take too kindly to that."

Nitefield chuckled. "Y'all ready to fight the big, bad, yankee machine I heard tell about?"

"Machines don't win wars, suh. Fightin' men do."

Nitefield chuckled again. "Uh huh. Yeah. We'll see, won't we Govnuh? Ya'll can right sure bet yoah ass we will."

Joseph E. Brown looked upon the growing crisis with disdain as he felt that the recent government banning of slavery overreached its proper power and as such felt that with this only greater evil would come. He had been fighting in his for hours about what course of action to take as current economy of his state entirely depended upon slavery which produced its main exports of cotton, tobacco, and other labor intensive products which were in strict terms its only real source of exports which the state relied on.

Or to go with the growing movement of seccesion, ensure his state's stability in the short term, protect the rights of the people and states, and take the more certain course.”

With this thought he spent hours more of thinking in his study until a messenger arrived and told him that the Congress of Georgia had voted overwhelmingly in favor of succession and that polls showed that the people were greatly in favor of it so he no longer had a choice as it was his duty as governor of Georgia to do the will of the people and do what he saw as what was best for the whole of the State so he sent a letter to every other seceded state which read,” In the name of the people and in states rights that I as governor of Georgia, with the agreement of the State Congress and the support of the people of the great state of Georgia, that I do know announce the withdrawal of Georgia from the Union of the United States and our support for the cause of independence for the southern states that have so far seceded from the Union and our ascension to their ranks.

The recent calling for armed attack against Kentucky spurred exactly the same response that they hoped for: rebellion. Men and women screamed for blood in the streets, and men wearing the gray uniform of the Confederacy were cheered as they marched out to the borders where they would await either the inevitable assault from the Northern Aggressors, or they themselves would make an incursion of their own.

Whichever the case was, they stood firmly and screamed for all the world to hear, "Bring it on!"

OOC: for the record there is no Confederacy present now. Its just all of as individual states........so I shall disregard refrences to the Confederacy for now.

IC:

With the guards slain in Washington D.C. sympathized with the Confederacy. Sure they made an attempt on Buchannan's life but it was in the name of the Constitution...the same laws that the city is pressed to uphold. D.C. a city which bares Slave Owners itself was in a sprawl and began to become a dangerous place for Northerners, even the Senate and White House were threatned.

Meanwhile, President Orr made his way back to Charleston..on his way he thought

"If I only I could unite the South and we could revolt against the tyrannical North. We good ole boys 'ell show 'em a thing ah two. I would reckon the troop level of Souf Carolina ta be a bout 150,000. I could stretch it a little bit farther but not much. I gotta be smart. Nahw I think when I get back I might get Virginia and Norf Caralinata cooperate and let me take troop through there....we must seize Washington." Orr thought aloud in his bed. He would make sure the North wouldn't be able to harm the south. We would make the move before they can even think....and as passive as Buchannan is we shall take the upper hand before Lincoln even calls himself the president

President Buchanan could hear fewer gun shots. He checked the window he saw a few rebels outside fighting if union soldiers. He ordered that Governor Wisner be abled allowed to enter by tight protection. The messenger rode to the coach with heavily armed union soldiers by his side. The messenger stoped the coach and knocked on the door.
Governor Wisner looked around at the bodies scattered on the floor of the square outside the White House. Men stared at him as he and his soldiers marched on through, and they dragged the bodies away.

The first dead already, and in a Union state. This was getting serious he thought.

Soon Wisner and his entourage were at the doors of the White House, being guided in by a man who looked like he had already done some fightin' today. As he saw the President walk down the stairs he said one thing:

"Mr. President, where the hell are our Union states? All I have heard is people protected the right to keep slaves, am I your only support!?"

OOC: Oh noes. By the sounds of things we should probably make the meeting quick. Is anyone gonna support the Union?

"Please Governor sit down.I need support from you soldiers to keep the united states from entering a civil war.Can you make that happen."

The Governor sat down quietly, and looked over at the idle man standing near him who had opened the door.

"Would you mind getting me a drink - whisky" It wasn't a question. He then turned back to the President and looked at him, pondering what to say "Well Mr. President, I have my issues with supporting you - I don't want to send my men into a losing war, no matter how much I condemn slavery. You see..." He leaned in closer "Me and Alexander W. Randall, Governor of Wisconsin are very close, he'd probably let me make his decision for him...anyway, I could be very useful to you, but if other Union states are going to not assist - well what's a man to do."

He paused as his drink arrived and casually took a sip "I can get hundreds of thousands of volunteers, 200,000 maybe, to fight in this. But I , like you, do not want Civil War - though if it is to happen, it seems that people do not view you as the leader for the Union. Maybe you should step aside soon. I see no threat coming to Michigan though, so I might be able to help you protect Washington in the mean time, as no doubt that will be the target of the Southerners."

He stood up and looked at the President "I understand. You can serve your term, I just hope you can lead us away from Civil War. For now, Michigan will pledge troops to protect Washington - a small force anyway. I do not want to see my men slaughtered at all, or even sent to war into Lincoln is our President. The streets of San Francisco were seemingly empty. A dull shouting could be heard near the shore, but other then that the city seemed dead. Some of the citizens were sitting at home, wondering what would become of thier nation. Others were listening to ones man's plan.

His name was Joshua A. Norton. He stood on a soapbox, and behind him a new flag waved.

http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/6617/flagjy8.png

"The President, or ex-president if you will, refuses to strike out at the slave owners! He sits in his comfertable capital while negores all over the south remain in chains in the 'land of the free!' All men are created equal, thats what it says in our constitution, and yet we build our nation on the backs of slaves! Are we going to stand for this?"

The crowd of 5,000 yelled "No!!!!"

"Then I say WE secede! We form OUR own nation, a nation where equality will be found, and slavery will have no place to hide! A nation with a backbone, with a strong leader who can get things done! Whos with me?"

The crowd cheered as Norton jumped from his soapbox and began his march towards Sacramento. The citizens followed him, hoping to urge thier governor to secede and bring war to the southrons!

From, James T. Farley, Govenor of California and John Whiteaker, Governor of Oregon.

While you have refused to take action against the south, we request an influx of federal troops into both our states. A one Joshua A. Norton is stirring quite the bee's nest, calling for secession and war against all who hold slaves. We've called on the state militia but so far they don't seem to disagree with Norton's ideas. The citizens are looking for a strong leader in the recent resignation, and are worried if they don't form thier own nation they'll be dragged down with the 'decaying union.'

Ambassador DeVries was sitting in his estate, reading the flurry of pro- and contra-aboluntionists andthe newly seceded governments

He clapped his hands and a manservant appeared..

Washington, I need you to do something... I will have the secretary write a few statements and these must then be posted POST haste...there will be a horse ready for you..

Yessah!, replied the big black man.

One question, Sah... will you give my family from the south asylum and work when they come up north?

Surely, big man, replied the ambassador.. but I warn you here that the whole slavery issue is a decoy to deceive us

the notherners care no more for you than the Ranchers...probably less, as you will compete with them for jobs..

And I have heard some speak of this being a great opportunity to tackle the problem over mass-immigration from Europe.. these poor Irish and Greeks and Germans are going to get rammed into the army..oh.. now that I think of that, take my rifle and a pair of 44.s from the armoury, just in case you get into trouble... and shoot first, ask questions later...

The Chief Governor of Groot Mokum's VOC looked much unimpressed when he read the news from America...then he frowned, drew on his long-stemmed pipe and scratched under his wig..

Divert all Slave-trading ships to the southern america's.. get the ministry together.. we MAY have to abolish slavery at some point....at least if it looks like the unionists are winning..and oh, send ALL the reserves from the armouries to the Americas, prices will go up there and need will be humungous..have word sent to all Mokummer Ranchers in the Americas, and let's stay OUT of the picture this time.. people still looking at us as the guys who sould our OWN enemy guns in the 80 year war...
let's liquidize all our assets in this pesky ex-colony and stay OUT of trouble.. we can re-invest once they are done killing eachother..

Governor Thorbecke interrupted at this point..

Milords, I reckon this is the time to cash in our outstanding loans and credits to the Americas, and diverty our trading poists there to off-coast locations like Puerto Rico or Cuba, and to countries like Mexico and Brazil...and all deliveries should be paid in cash, gold or barter straightaway... make sure we are supporting BOTH parties or NEITHER, so we don't lose face..

there was a murmur of conscent from the "heren 17", and they all went their separate ways..

Raleigh Times-North Carolina to remain in the Union!

Following a narrow vote today in the state senate the decision to remain in the Union for now, Representatives explained to many angry citizens that the decision was made due to the current lack of organization for the other states that have seceded, Several representatives stated that secession would be suicide unless the seceded states united under one common banner. In light of growing protests the governor has called up all state militia regiments to maintain order, while many citizens were angered by the choice to remain in what they call an oppressive and unfair government, however many do understand the reasons for the votes, however should the seceded states unite the governor has stated that a new vote may be taken when and if that event occurs.

Governor John Albion Andrew of Massachusetts looked through a window to Boston. So much had happened in the past few days, with the growing number of succession states and failed assassination of James Buchanan. He had just recently become Governor that evening. Governor Andrew could see a storm brewing in the distance. More states were going to fall to succession, and Massachusetts is going to be one of the states to bring them back. He knew that he needed to act quickly. In the morning the Massachusetts state militia would be called up for active duty, after that all he could do was wait and receive orders from the President. Alabama Decree of Withdrawal from the Union

The state of Alabama now has chosen to withdraw from the union of the United States and hence forth shall no longer give heed to any order issued from the Federal government. We hereby shall now take our own course of action and shall exercise our God given right of self determination that we have taken the course which we think is best for the future of our state and that of our children. Greatly though the future is not certain we are committed to the end to the end to our choice to secede from the United States which has turned into a dystopia which we can no longer be content to live.

The reasons for us choosing the leave the Union are in that the United States Federal government has overreached its powers and went against the Constitution itself, the massing of troops to invader our southern brethren, the basis of our community being threatened, and the hopes that we could not have a safe and free future as long as we remained part of the United States.

We now support the other states that have chosen to leave the Union of the United States and we wish to open dialogue with them regarding the mustering of soldiers against our cause of self determination and to protect our states from possible invasion by the Union.

We wish to note that any action taken against shall be seen as act of aggression and we shall take whatever is needed to counter the threat and subdue it in its entirety.

Signed.
Governor Andrew B. Moore
Congress of Alabama

With the decree people throughout the entire state began to gather at the nearest fair sized town and reported in to be gathered into local miltias which would stand at ready to defend the state in the case of invansion from the North. As well, a further 20,000 men signed up to join the standing army of Alabama which would go on offensives against the Union and support other secessionist states. Added the Standing Army of Alabama would be armed by the state and trained to fight on even footing with the Army of the Union.

Andrew Moore began to gather arms and clothing for the army in the meanwhile and sent out letters urging other states to secced from the Union with a list of arguments such as the government abusing its powers, right to self determination, etc.

When the message arrived to Governor Andrew, he called up another 40 Infantry Regiments, 20 Cavalry Regiments, and 17 Artillery Regiments. In total 95 Regiments, 95,000 men, were going to be called up and ready in the next week. Upon receiving the letter Governor Andrew quickly got paper and wrote Governor Morgan.

Dear Governor Morgan,

I have received orders to move my troops out to bring back Tennessee into the Union. I think that is it in our best interest for the Massachusetts Regiments to meet up with the New York Regiments. With both of our forces we can easily back these secessionists bastards back in the Union. Of course the Generals of both Armies will have to try and get along.

Signed
Governor Andrew of Massachusetts

Once he finished writing, he quickly handed over to a messenger. It would arrive to New York City within the next twelve hours. One thing still remained. Who would command these regiments? On the crisp morning, Alexander W. Randall, Governor of Wisconsin, wandered through the city streets of Madison with his wife clinging on to his hand, and a small group of soldiers surrounding him. The city supported Randall's move to leave the power of Wisconsin in Governor Wisner of Michigan's hands, as there neighbouring state seemed more willing to fight against slavery.

As he turned the corner he noticed a pale faced man, and was alarmed when he stepped in front of him.

"Excuse me young man" He said. They were his last words.

"For the Southern States!" The man shouted, and he fired a gun hidden inside his coat pocket three times into Randall's chest. The sound of the bullets and the screams of the wife echoed around the empty street, and as the killer ran a barrage of bullets hit his back - they would never know who he was, and why he did it.

A Letter To The President

Mr. President, yesterday my husband, Alexander W. Randall, Governor of Wisconsin, was murdered in the streets of Madison by a Southerner no doubt. The whole of Wisconsin is in shock, and it has spurred us on to fight against the Union traitors. Today, upon reading what my husband wrote about what would happen if he were to die, it has been passed that Governor Wisner will be the stand in governor for Wisconsin, as well as full time Governor of Michigan, until an election is held, whenever that may be. The Vice Governor was not chosen as we wished to follow what my husband requested.

I understand you have Governor Wisner in your care - please tell him of Randall's death. We wish the Union luck, and our united forces of the two states, believed to be 200,000 strong, are preparing for war.

The President was shocked when he read the letter. He was very upset that a rebel would do that. The President walked the to Governor Wisner's room.James knew he didn't have the strength to tell Wisner that his friend had been killed by a rebel but he had to.James knocked on the door.

Wisner watched as a sombre looking President came into the room. His wife was looking over as the maids pack, and was angry they had only planned to stay here till the Ball - she had only ever been to Washington once before, and she had yet to explore the place.

As the President came closer he looked at the letter he was given. His face turned pale as he read news which he had never expected to hear, his friend and fellow Governor Alexander W. Randall was dead - and he was now in charge of two states, for what could be months and months given the unrest in America.

He looked at the President and said "When is this Ball? Once it's over, I think I need to return home and prepare for whatever war is happening here as soon as possible."

OOC: I'll be off in ten minutes, so no military action from me tonight.

"There is not going to be any ball.I'm going to call early elections soon.I'm sorry for you loss governor.Good night".

James walked out of the Governor's room and headed to his own room.He was shocked and tired.Today was bad day,he feared what he wanted never to happen.A civil war.James poured himself some brady and drank it.It was going to be a long night.

Letter to the president, Governor Harold of North Carolina

Dear Mr President,

I have recievied you're letter requesting that all states who have not yet joined the union send support in efforts to retake the rebel states, While it is not my own personal desire to withdraw from the Union it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to retain order within my own state...In fact recently a vote to secede was only narrowly defeated and should the rebellious states become more organized. It is certain that the majority of the citizens will rebel themselves and this will lead to secession they already openly cry for secession, if not many citizens will cross into southern territories to fight for the rebel cause, It is with my deepest regret that North Carolina can not support you in your cause.

SIC:

Letter to all rebellious states

We must Unite, my southern brethern if we wish to succeed in our cause, the longer we remain disorganized the weaker we become, As individuals we can not win but if we Unite under one banner surely victory will fall to us. I recommend establishing a confederacy of states with its own head of state and own represenatives.

"Governer, we have news that union troops are amassing to bring us back into the union!"
"What? Send a message to our southern brothers - We are preparing to be attacked and need assitance."
"At once sir. Oh, and North Carolina chose not to cede."
"What? Those yankee sympathizers. They should be hung! Send them an ultimatum at once:I can simply not believe that you would turn your back on your brothers at this dire hour. Do you too not own slaves? Do you too not want to uphold our freedoms? Come to your senses my dear friend. Join the assembly of states who believe in true rights. Do not stand for this mockery of the Presidency that Buchanon has made.

These accusations of abandoning our southern brothers are harsh words...And are false, things are not as simple here as you make them seem, We are close to Washington itself and therefore very vulnerable to attack from the northern states, however if a greater organization of the break away states was in place that would sway the few delegates within out state assembly and lead to our secession. You must understand our position friend.

Formation of the United Front of True America

Governor Moore of Alabama looked at the secessionist movement and the growing force that would soon descend upon the South decided that the independent southern states would have to work together in order to even have a real hope of gaining their independence and preserving their dignity. So he sent out a letter to each of the seceded state’s governors and Congresses’ which read,”

My Brothers in our common struggle for freedom,

We know face a great threat, which may well overwhelm us and our dream of preserving our heritage and rights, in the form of the northern states and the Federal government of the United States. Such is it that we have been forced to secede by their actions and now they seek to force us back into their corrupt ‘Union’ and end our very rights which our fore fathers fought and died for. In it their abandonment of this do they betray the very foundation on which our fathers founded the United States on.

So it is in the dreams of our fore bearers that we now take up arms in a common cause in the name of liberty and self determination against our very brothers if it need be.

Therefore we must take up arms in the name of honor, liberty, justice, the ideals our people hold dear, God, and our rights and we must protect all of these from the unjust aggression of the forces of the Federal government and their puppets in charge of the northern states.

Yet, while they are organized we are scattered and far weaker then the overwhelming fore of the North.

In this struggle though we would fail if we are divided so we must combine our efforts to defend and for our common cause that we must now act as one force to counter the evils of the Yankees. So no I ask the secessionist states to come together as a common alliance and confederacy of states against the forces of the North of which we shall be far more likely to overcome as one rather then many.

For this Confederacy we believe that there should be a formation of a common command structure for our military forces in order for a coherent effort to formed, defense of one and others interest, and the adoption of free travel between our states.

As well, to the other states which support our cause we call upon your sense of pride, honor, duty, patriotism, and belief in our common cause to come to our aide and join us in our battle against the forces of oppression and tyrannical rule the United States has come to represent.

Signed,
Governor Andrew B. Moore of Alabama

Official Statement from the Governor of Virginia

The Governor of Virginia, John Letcher, has announced that the Commonwealth of Virginia shall secede from these United States. Governor Letcher has stated his deepest regrets, however it is what the people of Virginia want. The people of Virginia feel threatened by the Federal Government of the United States, and feel that for now Virginia will do well on it's own. This is all the Governor of Virginia has to say on these matters for now.

Official Statement from the Governor of Maryland

Governor Thomas H. Hicks has announced today that he is in utter shock of the audacity of the seceding states, especially the Commonwealth of Virginia. He has called for Federal Troops to remove these men from their seats of power, and to cut off the head of a very..very poisonous snake. For, if the United States does not stop this, then the outlying years shall be very bloody..and very horrid. His announcement has been met by opposition, specifically from the Democrats of the state. The believe of a fradulent election runs high as ever, and that it does not bode well for the Legislature and State.

In Virginia...

John rubbed at his temples softly, and let out a sigh when his secretary entered the room.

"I'm sorry Mr. Letcher..I'll come back later..." she could tell that the Governor was very stressed out, yet John spoke out in support of her visit.

"No, please...Charlotte stay, it's all right. I'm just..this isn't going to go very well I believe." He knew what he said was almost pointless, of course this wasn't going to go well. Atleast his decision wasn't a lonely one..

"Sir, with all do respect..I strongly believe that your guidance will lead Virginia to a better tomorow. The words of the Governor of Maryland shouldn't be taken too close to heart, besides..the north is at such a loss, who knows when they'll actually do anything? I trust you, we Virginians trust you. Just don't lose hope, yet." She was calming to hear, and it did help with what she said. John looked up at her, and smiled..

"I need you to send this letter to the other seceding states, I'm sure we'll get a response out of them." He finished, still smiling as he handed her the letter.

Official Statement to our Brother States

I am very happy to see that the Commonwealth is not alone, of course we are not the first. The negative statements we have been recieving as of late certainly have not helped, but it shows that the northern states are pretty much in a weakening state..one declining into delusion, one existing in petty lies. I wish to communicate with my fellow Governors over these matters, and perhaps see if Virginia may be included into any sort of alliance of sorts being formed.

Sincerely,

Governor John Letcher of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

As our cause grows in sheer size and support for does also we believe that we must become unified in the terms of organization of our forces so as to project our power to the point that we will be able to take on the combined forces of the northern states that now gather against our common cause. Therefore we agree that we should meet and as well we should aim to bring in more states into our cause to both strengthen our cause and in order to have the proper forces to bring down the government of the United States which has now become truly corrupt.

Kentucky scouts had crossed into Maryland to watch for any signs of Northern movement against them. When spies within the area of Maryland caught word of Union movement into support Maryland, Governor Beriah Magoffin knew that they had to move quickly to disrupt these forces.

"That is why I have called you here today, General," He said to General Daniel J. Baker. "You are to intercept these troops, and destroy them."

"Governor, I believe we may need more than just our troops," Baker replied.

"Really?" Beriah asked. "What on earth else do you need?"

"Artillery sir," He replied. "We shall need howitzer support."

"Well then," the Governor stated. "Take a brigade of the 88ths howitzers along with you. Lieutenant Colonel Alexander commands the Third Battary. He is a good man and will do well to fight with you."

"Thank you Governor," Baker said. "I will move out tommorrow. We shall send those Damnyankees straight to hell and gone!"

With this, the Kentucky 58th Rifles along with a Brigade of Kentucky Howitzers moved to the border and waited for scout acknowlegement of the Yankees advance. Once sighted, they would be intercepted and engaged by twenty-thousand fresh Kentucky Infantry and a battary of howitzers.

The battlefield was chosen, the Kentuckian soldiers set. The place: Rockville Junction. It was outside a small town amidst rolling farm fields and plains of wheat, divided by a series of railroad tracks which headed north to south. General Daniel Baker stood behind a wooden picket, built by his troops as cover from Union attacks. Behind them were the artillery battary, ready to fire upon the Union troops as they advanced. The men were ready and eager, waiting for their destiny to be revealed. Would the first engagement of this Civil War be a victory for the Rebels? or would it signify the first of many smashing defeats and ending the dream of States Rights? Only time, and bloodshed before dusk, would tell.....

To all citizens of New York State:

My dearest American Brothers, you certainly know of the current secessions from these United States by the damn Slaving southerners. However it is now official! War is upon us as soldiers from the seceding state of Kentucky have mobilized to invade the state of Maryland! We must arm for war as there will be grim times ahead of us. Thousands will die. A Letter To The President

This war is getting serious, and we fear for us being the next ones to suffer. Maryland is facing attack, and we will not stand and watch whilst the Northern States of the Union are the destroyed by the slave ridden states of the south. A massive recruiting scheme in Michigan and Wisconsin has begun, and we shall defend our independent states and save the others.

Although expressing concern before after whether we can bare to see our men killed in war, we also cannot see Maryland and Union troops attacked. Therefore, we will be sending assisting to fight off there Southern Invaders. We are supporting the Union.

Governor William Alfred Buckingham of Connecticut had just recently gotten a letter from Governor Andrews of Massachusetts. The Army Regiments from Massachusetts were called up and headed now for Connecticut, then to the South. Just a week ago Governor Buckingham had called up the 1st-20th Connecticut Infantry Regiments, 1st-10th Cavalry Regiments, and 1st-5th Artillery Regiments. General Nathaniel Prentice Banks had a total of 135 Regiments under his command, or 135,000 soldiers. His army had recently hooked up with the Connecticut regiments. The men were marching toward New York. There they hoped to meet up with the army New York had raised. General Banks was bent on bringing back these damn secessionists bastards. A messenger had been sent away to deliver a message to the Governor Morgan of New York.

Dear Governor Morgan,

This is General Nathaniel Banks commander of the Massachusetts and Connecticut Armies. We are now moving across Connecticut and are going to enter New York. The wind and rain lashed the small cabin on the remote island just off the gulf coast. They had left Cedar Key half a day earlier and would have gotten to the island sooner, but they had had to wait until the winds abated a bit in order to row out to Pine Island.

Gov. Lee, Lt. Col. Simpson, Major Sanders, and Gen. Jackson were warm, if not comfortable, and the soup they had rustled up had put them all in a more amiable mood.

"Gen. Jackson. I assume my attempt at dinner was satisfactory?", said Lee.

"More than satisfactory, suh. Downright delicious is what I'd say."

They all chuckled. The Governor lost his smile, became serious. "Gentlemen, we're here to decide what to do about the northern attitude towards our state's right to predetermination."

Lt. Col. Simpson chimed in. "Basically, theyr'e saying that any individual state MUST conform to the dictates of the federal government in Washington. If Washington says that owning slaves is illegal, then all states must comply. If Washington declares that each state must pay a tax or levy for whatever Washington says is necessary, then each state must comply."

Lee said, "Sort of reminds you of the reason why the colonists of 100 years ago rebelled against King George, doesn't it?"

"Gentlemen, we have to decide two things. One, if we are to secede from the Union. Two, if we're going to become part of a new union, or confederacy as some are calling it. I for one am tired of being dictated to by politicians somewhere off in a central capitol. I say we secede from the Union and stay independant. Florida is in a unique position. We have little or no industry, but we have plenty of shoreline. People up in northern climates flock down here to escape the brutal winter weather." This from Major Sanders.

Lee looked at Sanders. "So you think that winter visitors are going to keep an independant state afloat?"

"Sanders answered, "Hell, Governor, it's working out that way already. And we've done nothing to either embellish the key areas of northern migration nor attempt to attract even more yankees down here. Their money is as green as ours, Governor."

"This planning fo rthe future is all well and good, gentlemen. But the IMMEDIATE future needs to be attended to. We have just under 50,000 militiamen under arms. They could stand a good deal more training. Our navy is in much better shape. I believe, with just a little preparation, that we can withstand just about any attempt at invasion of our state.", said Gen. Jackson.

Lee soke up. "I concur. There is one thing I'd like to do, though. We'd have a greater command of the Gulf of Mexico if we had Louisiana on our side."

Sanders said, "Gov. Delancoux? Why he's nothing but a low-life opportunist who's grand-daddy was a pirate! What the hell good could he do us?"

"Oh, I don't know, Major. A continuous gulfcoast presence all the way over to Texas. Access to the Mississippi and al the comerce it generates. And, of course, New Orleans and all of it's..........distractions."

Gen. Jackson said, "An ingenious proposal, suh. Would Delancoux go along with us?"

"Who knows,General. But I aim to find out. And if he proves to be recalcitrant, why then I propose we make Major Sanders here the new Governor of the great state of Louisiana!"

You could have heard a pin drop. Jackson said, "You mean to tell me that you would forcibly take over the state of Louisiana?" A long pause. Jackson laughed and slammed his hand on the table. "I like it! What do you think, Major?"

Major Sanders was at a temporary loss for words. "Now just hold on a cotton-pickin' minute, gentlemen. I'm a soldier, not a gol-durn politician!"

Lee laughed. "Trust me, Major. It 'aint a hard job. Side benfits are down-right delightful, too."

Sandres said, "Well that's all well and good. What we need to do is go through proper channels and contact Gov. Delancoux first."

Lee smiled. "We're way ahead of you, Major. The Governor should be reading my letter to him right about now. I'll have a response in about a week, Lord willin' and the creek don't rise."

Simpson said, "Then I propose we have a drink and wait for Delancoux's answer."

Lee raised his glass. "I'll second that proposition..............."

In the Commonwealth...

The man was pacing back and forth in the small confinement that was his room, thinking out loud. Secession had been a choice he had to improve upon now, but the close proximity to the Capital of the United States had only made it worst on him. He knew the Federal Government would send troops, it was only a matter of time. None of the other seceding states had really sent him any news or response yet, and he felt he would have to prepare his state for war..alone. As he paced, the man who he had sent for hours ago finally arrived. He was drenched from the coastal rains outside, but he seemed happy as can be. They looked at one another, and came close to shake hands..and then a brotherly hug.

"Mr. Letcher am I glad...am I glad to have been called by you. I'm sorry I could not make it any faster, the rain..seems like it's going to flood a bit tonight." The man removed his wet cap, and tilted his head slightly as a sign of respect.

"Do not worry, Thomas. I am happy you showed up, and it amazes me that your support runs rampant. It is a good thing you decided to show up in town earlier this week, it only means you are ready." The Governor smiled, and the two men let out hearty chuckles. The Governor offered the soon-to-be well known General a glass of scotch-whiskey, and they both sat down to discuss the matter at hand.

"Thomas, as you know...in a matter of days, Federal Troops will be at our borders. Maryland has made their public outcry to our withdrawal from the Union, however it seems large pockets of the state are for Secession and...well they're relying on our men to intervene. They want us to invade Maryland and capture those counties in support of us, it's just...this is going to be a hell-uv-uh war of sorts..and, not to mention..these troublesome counties of ours in the mountains, where your home is." He paused, and took a drawn out sip of his drink. The General, well Lieutenant General in Union standards, smiled and began to speak.

"Yes, these...West Virginians. They want to pull out of the Commonwealth and remain a part of the Union, but we can't let it happen. If it does, then this'll be disastrous. If these other seceded states want to have an ensured victory, they'll need a strong Virginia. We are the death-vise on these Northerners, and they too know it. I believe if we can amass a Militia to patrol the Western Virginians, we may be able to buy some time from their secession of our little union. However, I am going to need as many men as possible to keep the Federal troops at bay. Perhaps if another state will get involved..distract them of sorts, we can even go as far as to hit the white house!" The man was full of excitement, taking in his entire glass in a matter of seconds. The Governor smirked a bit, but had to object slightly.

"Our objectives as of now are to maintain security, which would mean keeping the West Virginians from seceding as out of the Commonwealth and patrolling our borders...mainly those with Maryland...and to perhaps acquire those Counties which show more support for secession. I do not want my own men to get greedy, because if greed is the case..we won't ever last past the end of the year. So you have my permission and my support to get the local units together, and to recruit those willing. I'm sure our armories are thick'enough to fulfill our needs." The Governor finally finished his glass, and sat it aside. The old Thomas Jackson smiled, and stood up.

"Well then, sir, I bid you fair well and a good night's rest..I shall be back here in three days with as many men as I may acquire, and we shall all be awaiting your verbal support." He tilted his head again, and re-applied the still soaked cap. Walking out of the room, the Governor sighed..

"Lord..what have I done?"

The land of Mary, oh such a Maryland..

Governor Thomas H. Hicks, the fashion of it made the man so proud. True, he had cheated the polls...it wasn't too hard, but of course no one wanted D.C. to be fully surrounded by Slave-owner dribble. These rebels were all going to die, they were all going to burn...it was only a matter of time.

These were the thoughts of a mad..mad man.

Upon receiving notice of the 2,456 Troops, 456 for his own personal security and 2,000 to have his most entrusted men to control, made him happy. Made him jubelous! However, news had been running rampant of Kentuckian intervention, but were they working with the Virginians? The Governor was full of worries that the 2,000 would perhaps be overwhelmed, however he attempted to keep his cool around the President's sent advisors. They were discussing plans to hit Richmond, Chancellorsville, all those places. It made him rather stressed, of course he wasn't prepared for a war...not a Civil War...not one he would have to play a real part in.

He sighed loudly as the men brought news from D.C., they were going to divert the 2,000 men to help fend off the Kentuckians while at the same time garrisoning pivotal positions the Virginians might hit. The 456 would be arriving in a matter of days, but he wanted them here...now.

Back in the Commonwealth...

The Governor had a rough rest, waking up constantly...and when he did sleep he had nightmares, nightmares of a fire...of children running, women screaming, men dying...even the boys...they were dying. He could tell he was beaded with sweat, he had finished the bottle of Scotch-Whiskey and passed out on his chair. The wife would surely be ticked off, but of course...even a woman of her statuette would know that a man was only a man...especially if he was a man behind the working of a bloodied monster. He reached for the empty bottle, and sighed...he forgot it had been emptied hours before.

"What am I becoming..." he rubbed both his cheeks, and looked across the room at a slight reflection of him self. He looked around him, and stood up. He was doomed to just sigh and drink, he thought as he walked towards the doors. It was still rainy, but his home was only a small walk away..but then again, why walk? The Governor scribbled his note on the piece of paper, and called for the servant to come and take it to the messenger, who would then take it by the quickest possible transport to the Governor of Maryland.

Wisner had been back in Michigan for two days now, and had been greeted by hordes of worried people. Many had heard of the states that had left the Union, and were worried there sons and husbands would be sent to war, to fight against the Union traitors. Gov. Wisner could not lie to them that they wouldn’t, but had tried to reassure them it may never happen yet. Though, it seemed unlikely.

The boy came and Wisner handed him the note, and smiled as he rushed off to the nearest messenger.

To Governor Letcher of Maryland

We have heard of your trouble in Maryland, and have already sent a letter to the President informing him of our support. Men our on there way to save you, we will not see you overrun. Around 8,000 men have been prepared – though we understand more may be needed. The state of Michigan supports you, and please tell us of how many troops you require of us, as we will be happy to provide for a fellow Union state.

General Daniel Baker sat in his large officer's tent, staring at a map of the battlefield they were fight on. New intelligence was that the Michigan State Army would be sending troops to engage them, so the battle truly was going to be heated. Thus far, they had advantage in numbers, but that would only last so long. Kentucky infantrymen were the best shots in what had been the Union, having grown up in the mountains and learning to fire a shotgun before walking. It was nature to the mountainmen of the region! Thus, assuming they had numerical advantage as well, victory would be theirs. It was just a matter of who could field the most men at that moment. Something he hoped to maintain on top of....

[OOC: Letcher is the Virginian Governor, :-P]

Maryland, I only do this so people are not confused between my as Maryland and as Virginia...

Governor Hicks received a letter from a young man on horseback, saying it was urgent. He removed the sealing stamp, and realized it was dated only a couple of days prior. He sat down with the Presidential Advisors surrounding him, and he read it aloud.

"So, the boys in Michigan are sending help..that's good. It seems that the center of this upcoming war is going to be between Maryland and Virginia, now..what about the West Virginians wanting to remain a part of the Union? Do we hit there, and cut the Kentuckians off before they make it to Maryland? Or do we just sit here, and focus our defenses on D.C. and Annapolis?" Was a comment made by one of the advisors, and the rest seemed to be leaning on defending for now.

"If we move now, or even with the additional 8,000 Troops, we will surely be leaving areas open for the Virginians and their presumed allies. I believe we should keep from having to count some losses, and begin garrisoning the border towns and D.C. We'll need to bring in some more ships to Annapolis, but the Virginians may have us cut off from the sea. What about the Brits or the French, any statements by them yet?" Said another advisor. The Governor of Maryland snuck out of the room to catch some fresh air, and he noticed something. A little bird was walking about, pecking at pebbles. It suddenly snapped it's head back, and took off. It was strange, really..but it was enough to sort of bring him to a realization.

He wasn't sure how he was going to do this, this was too much.

The states of Michigan and Wisconsin gathered there brave troops. A few days had passed and no message for more men had come, so only a fraction of the army, 8,000 strong, would be heading off to protect the Northern States, currently Maryland and the city of Washington. They knew that Kentucky would probably attack with more, but they had the defensive forces of Maryland as well - Governor Wisner felt confident of sending his men into the situation.

He made a emotive speech to them as he watched them head off to war, there wife’s and friends who remained bidding them farewell. They had been well trained and well equipped under the new scheme they had put in ever since they thought there could be a war, and he would hate to lose them.

He got message of the Presidents troop numbers - and even more to his surprise, that he would be involved in the fighting. Wisner thought this was crazy, and presumed the President wanted to die fighting! He hastily sent his message to the troops that were leaving Washington.

To The President -

We urge you to send more Union forces, equal to ours maybe if you can spare that. We also wish to make sure you are certain about going into battle yourself, as it could be a death trap. Good luck - our troops will be meeting you on the borders of Maryland.

I belive that we must make a united call to the other slave states who have not left the union. If they do not scede with us, our cause will be greatly diminished. It would best to do so under the pretense of government. I thuis would like to establish the C.S.A., Cofederate States of America, if only as a show for now. It would prove that we are united. Something had happened. Why were the two govenors in jail? Why was the state militia being called out, and armed citizens moving into the washington territory? Why had the federal forts been occupied? Unionist troops jailed? What was going on? And who, perchance, had put up that strange flag over San Francisco? A letter would answer the question.

OOC: I always thought the west coast was its own little country. As a Floridian i'm glad to see your keeping it independent for now. Sure Florida at this time wasn't "as developed" as other states, but its so far south the Feds had to run thier own little mini-war just to capture it. Remember: Tallahassee was the only confederate capital east of the mississipi to remain uncaptured the whole war. And if this rp allows it, think about annexing the bahamas or cuba later on.

As for relations between us, Norton is VERY opposed to slavery, so you'd have to get rid of it before he even spoke to you. Florida has alot of slaves, almost as much as the white population (unsure of LA) but as a state that had only joined the union 15 years prior, I think it could at least devolve into Jim Crow level without much fuss. Its still a wild place, and just make clear to your population that slaves undermine wages.

Delancoux read the letter twice, then re-read it again. 'Well I'll be damned', he thought. 'That crazy bastard wants to form an independant nation out of Louisiana and Florida.'

He jumped up and opened the door to his office. "Miss Jane, go find General LaGrande and have him come here."

"Yes, suh."

Delancoux walked over to the large map of the southern United States and stared at the southern coastline. He made a mental note to suggest talking to Texas about their plans. Perhaps they'd want to be included.

Gen. Jedediah LaGrande was a portly man, well known for his dining excesses. He puffed his way into the Governor's office and said, "Damnation, Jim! What's so all-fire important that I hadda be pulled away from lunch?"

Delancoux said nothing, just handed him the letter. LaGrande read through it and looked up at the Governor. "This is enticing, suh. But my grand-daddy didn't fight and die in the Revolution just to have all of this fall apart."

"Yes, yes, I know. That bothers me also. But the Union IS falling apart, General. There's all kind of fighting going on up north. And one of the Carolinas is calling for a Confederate States of America. How long would it be before one of the CSA wanted to secede? No, probably best to do it now and remain an independant nation."

"Yes, I see your point, Guvnuh. And I suppose that son-of-a bitch Lee wants to be the head of this new nation?"

Delancoux's smile was mmore of a grimace. "Yes, no doubt. Ambitious bastard, eh? But that's one of the things we'll have to talk about when we meet in a couple of days. Miss Jane, would you get a letter off to Governor Lee and invite him here for discussion of his proposals? Say, this coming Friday?"

"Yes, suh."

North Carolina Leaves the Union, Governor Harold orders 3 regiments into Virginia

Following several calls from other ceded states calls for a union of their own as promised Governor Harold along with the state senate voted again today on wether or not to leave the Union, In a landside vote secession was approved and Governor Harold immediately ordered that three militia units of the newly formed North Carolina army under Major Lenorad Frisk some 5,000 troops, be deployed to Virginia to support the forces there as well as show they're support for the other ceded states...Governor Harold was quoted as saying

" It is my hope that our show of support for the great state of Virginia will help unite the other slave states and lead to our victory."

Along with the deployment of the Militia regiments Harold has called for volunteers to report for service in the NCA as well as for any privateers to volunteer for service in the North Carolina Navy which is also in the process of being formed, Governor Harold has also called for the other slave states to unite quickly as this is their only hope for victory.

Georgia Hosts Secessionist Meeting

To answer the growing movement of Southern independence and to organize our efforts in our common cause I, Joseph Brown of Georgia, shall be host a meet of the leader or their selected delegates, representatives from the seceded states, representatives from the states which currently wish to leave the United States and join our cause, and we shall not though allow people from the government of the United States to attend due to their group being the ones whom forced us to leave the union of the United States of America.

To be discussed at the meeting shall be the points of unify our efforts so that might fare much better against the forces that now move against the aim to end our dream of freedom and liberty, the organization of our military forces in the face of the oncoming war, the grievances behind us leaving the Union, the presentations made by states which wish to leave the Union, and how to bring an end to this war quickly while still attaining our full and recognized independence from the United States of America by foreign nations and by the United States itself.

The aims of this are to allow us to be able to overcome all that faces us, but in order to do so we must act as a strong unified force if we are to overcome the full might of the United States which shall soon move against us and our cause for liberty.

IC:

I find it amusing, Govenor Brown, you speak of a "cause for liberty," yet continue to hold men created by God as property. The essence of all slavery consists in taking the product of another's labor by force. It is immaterial whether this force be founded upon ownership of the slave or ownership of the money that he must get to live. Consenting to slavery is a sacrilegious breach of trust, as offensive in the sight of God as it is derogatory from our own honor or interest of happiness. Although volume upon volume is written to prove slavery a very good thing, we never hear of the man who wishes to take the good of it, by being a slave himself. Govenor Brown, I must admit whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.

And the sun shall sine as it shall rise, and the sun shall giveth the light upon those who are good...and taketh from those who are wicked. [Virginia]

Governor Letcher had a very foggy week, slipping between the cracks of alcoholism as he read the reports of Northern Advancement. He had not totally fallen apart, however had succumbed to some stress. Yet, this sunny day proved to be a grand day. He awoke in his bed, for once, to the sound of a messenger's cry. He rose, and put on a meager robe and crept to his front door. Outside was a young boy, with a not-so Virginian accent waiving a piece of paper.

"What brings you here, boy?" He said promptly from his door-step, which in response the boy grinned from ear to ear.

"Guvhner, I bring you news from North Carolina. Mr. Harold, proud leader of the great state of North Carolina, has seceded from the Union. He wishes to aid you in your state's defense from the War mongering North, and has ordered 5,000 Troops of the newly formed North Carolina Army to march north into your state. He hopes for you to write back." The boy was benovelent, and started to pedal his bicycle away after have handing the Governor the piece of paper.

Today was going to be a grand day, indeed.

--

John sat in his office, reading over a few documents and reports from Intelligence in Maryland and the West Virginians who were now planning to break off. He was no pleased by this, however knew that the old Jackson had handles on it. Infact, it was that very same Jackson who called from just outside his office's doorway.

"Mr. Governor, I would so like for you to step outside and see what the sewn seeds have grown." The hearty man's voice was more heavier than before. The Governor gathered himself, and walked outside of the Governor's Mansion to a site which one couldn't believe unless he had pinched himself. Outside was the size of a large Army, all looking as if they were ready for combat.

"I had my men ride to all the different Military bases, and what of forts throughout the state to gather our Commonwealth's Army. If you haven't recalled, we still retain an Army from the old days of Washington himself." He was cheery, sitting a-top a bronzed horse.

"How many men answered the call, General?" He, the Governor, was astonished by this display of young and mildly old men standing at attention just beyond. Even the traffic and the by-standers stood in an awe-inspiring haze.

"Sir, professionaly we have just above three-thousand and five-hundred. Regular, and those with enough experience to shoot a Yank...several more. However, I bring to you today little over one-thousand. The rest are camped outside of Richmond, and others have been deployed to the Western Counties to maintain control. We have two field armies ready and waiting, and a third in training just to the southwest of here. Oh, and I heard about some support from..where, North Carolina I think. Them boys sure are gutsy to want to help face the world, well..I commend them for their support." He was smiley, dismounting off of his horse. The Governor nodded in approval to the news, but then asked.

"So, when can we mount any sort of Operation? We have maybe a day to almost a week until Maryland is completely secure by Union Forces, maybe even D.C. is vulnerable as of now. And, I still haven't done much in the organization of the Navy. Do you have any idea as to how we may cripple Maryland, and perhaps, the Union by Sunday?" He did ask a very good question, which the good ole' Jackson supplied an answer.

"Well, Governor, I believe that by Friday we may be able to strike a pose. Today being, oh what...Tuesday? I say maybe even before Friday, but any real damage would depend on how long any sort of battle will last..with our territorial advantage, we may be able to encircle the panhandle and cross the Potomac and take the White House..I say odds are in our favor, perhaps not number wise but gut wise." He paced as he said this, rubbing at his bearded chin. The Governor nodded, and began to speak.

"Good, well I want you to organize our ground forces and assign what you have not yet assigned to their respective units. By tommorow, I wish to speak with who we've got high-officer wise and devise a real strategy. That way, perhaps, the North Carolinians may arrive to par-take in these talks. And..Thomas..thank you, this means more than anything really. Maybe, almost, Jesus himself." He smiled, and turned to his doorway.

"I'm not sure about that, Governor, but I do respect your sense of humor. These men shall stay with-in Richmond limits, they shall be the known as Letcher's Battalion..in your honor, sir." He held onto his smile, and both men let out a hearty chuckle. That was all, for today.

"Emperor Norton, North Carolina has left the Union, and is now planning to aid Virginia."

Norton I peered up from his desk, his new uniform crisp and clean. He pulled a map from a rack, and unrolled it. It was a map of the United States, or what WAS the United States. He looked over the map, and put check marks on states that had left.

"Well then, it would appear Maryland shall fall. By God Wilfred, I refuse to allow slavery and the south's 'crooked circle' near our domain. I want the territories watched. If Texas goes, she will surely attempt to take the New Mexico and Indian Territory with her. This will not happean."

"Yes my liege."

"What of the army? Could we strike if Texas made her move?"

"Well sir, since the creation of the Empire nearly 17,000 Californians alone are expected to enlist to fight for the crown. Oregon's numbers haven't come in yet, and the Washington Territory has been accounted for either."

"How is the occupation going there?"

"Luckly they are as anti-slavery as you my liege, and with the promise of quick statehood they have stepped in line. Loyalists are being rounded up as we speak. After the army is trained militia units will be pulled out but remain on high alert, as per your instructions."

"Excellent! Any word from the President?"

"No my liege. Nothing."

"Lets see how he responds. If he really is serious about going to war with the south, perhaps we can lend him some gold money?"

"As you wish, my liege."

Governor Harold sat at his desk receiving reports from county after county of the number of volunteers enlisting in the new army already 15,000 troops had been raised and placed under the command of General Arnold Hudson, who was taking great advantage of the states somewhat protected position using Virginia as a buffer against Union forces...

Hudson had already issued the orders for the construction of several forts along the states vital waterways which would prove to be a vital means of transportation..construction of these forts was currently underway by mostly civilian and slave laborers meanwhile General Hudson marched his forces towards Fort Macon in order to seize it from the small federal Garrison.

The governors and their respective entourages arrived in the sleepy hamlet of Chat's Branch, La. around noon on the 17th of March. After a rather lengthy round of introductions and pleasentries, they got down to business. What was hammered out over the next ten hours was nothing short of remarkable. Aside from a mutual-aid pact, they determined to and agreed to form a single nation out of the two states, to be known henceforth as The Great Gulf Province of America. It's capitol was to be in Tallahasee with provincial centers in Ocala and Baton Rouge. Florida's salt and cattle industries along with Louisiana's lumber and cotton holdings were thought enough to keep the fledgling nation afloat. But the real shocker was the mutual agreement to do away with slavery. This caused an uproar among the plantaion owners when they were apprised of the decision, but when several of them turned up missing and dead, they got the point. Thousands of slaves were given clothing, food, and a one-way trip up the Mississippi to states where they could live as free men.

The two governors proclaimed themselves co-Regents of the new nation, and immediately began preparations to ensure that their borders were guarded against those not welcome. Some 225,000 soldiers were strung across a line running from the Atlantic Ocean to the border of Texas. They constructed a "no-man's land" a mile wide: cleared land, pits dug deep, and a perpetual border guard complete with artillery. The Gulf Navy constantly patrolled the Atlantic waterways as well as the upper reaches of the Mississipp Delta region and the Gulf of Mexico. Secretly, a dozen ships were headed to a few of the closer Caribbean islands to see of what use they might be to the Province.

Lee and Delancoux were pleased that they were at peace, despite the news that filtered from the north. "Let 'em fight and kill each other," they said. "If they dare to come here, they'll find out what a fight is all about."

Frisk sat calmly inside his new quarters inside Fort Macon who's small garrison of only a few hundred soldiers had surrenderd without a shot..the capture of several hundred rifles, ammunition and especially the capture of several 12 and 24 pound howitzers as well as several 10 and 20 pound Parrot guns was a great boost for Morale and a boost for Frisk's army as well..Frisk himself was using the time to celebrate as following his success he had been promoted to Major General, With the construction of forts still underway General Frisk began writing a letter to Governor Harold requesting that the states Infastructure be further developed..railroads and roads would be vital to moving his army and the vital supplies through the state..Upon finishing his letter and sending off he read over a new report...His eyes opened with shock at the news that Florida and Louisiana had formed their own state..."The fools..he thought...They don't have the manpower to hold on their own.." Frisk immedately began writing a letter to the states of Tennesse, South Carolina and Georgia.

Letter from Major General Frisk commander army of North Carolina

My fellow southerners surely you have heard of the formation of the new nation between Florida and Louisiana, these states must be retaken to our cause...we can not afford the loss of the valuable resources, manpower and the strategic position..If we can persuade the great states of Mississippi and Alabama to our Uniting cause then we can succeed in retaking these valuable lands..support from within both states will be great and victory should be relatively easy going. On behalf of North Carolina and Governor Harold I await you're reply.

General Frisk wrote a copy of his letter and sent for a dispatch to have the messages delivered

Lee and Delancoux were laughing so hard that they had trouble breathing. They had read an intercepted memo from Governor Harold of North Carolina to his "brother states" concerning the "recovery" of Florida and Louisiana to the Confederate cause.

"He's an idiot", declared Regent Bill Lee.

"And a fool", added Regent Jim Delancoux. He really thinks that we've gone over to the yankees. The fool forgets that the reason for all of this secessonist talk and border skirmishes is the simple fact that the so-called Confederate faction has decried a central government's attempt to interfere in a state's right to self-determination. He's now in the position to be the one wanting to call all the shots for all the states...a position he's placed himself in. How soon he forgets, eh?"

"You are of course, correct, sir, " said Regent Lee. "But we should address the wild assertations. Perhaps an open letter of our own to the various states would be appropiate. Nothing flowery, nothing alarmist. Just a short, to-the-point notice of our intentions towards the union, the confederacy, and whatever other factions may arise in the future."

"Excellent idea, sir. But wisdom would also dictate that we be supremely prepared in the military aspect of this situation. If the fool thinks to force us to his will, he'd best be prepared to receive an ass-whuppin'!"

Lee chuckled. "Yes, quite. Our Warlords, Hutchinson, Gebhart, and Joyner are at this very moment updating and securing our northern borders. Sealords Kent and Willard have a flotilla based in Jacksonville as well as constant patrols up and down the length of the lower Mississippi. If anyone wants a fight, so be it. Our official policy at this point is isolation from any conflict: you leave us alone, and we'll do the same."

Regent Delancoux added, "And perhaps a good idea would be to send a personal note to the governors of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas concerning our regard for their borders and even perhaps a loose, but definable, military treaty. As far as His Majesty out there on the west coast, we should send an ambassador to establish formal relations."

"Grand thoughts, sir. Shall we proceed?"

TO: The Governors of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas.
FROM: Regents Lee and Delancoux, The Grand Gulf Province of America

Sirs,

As you are no doubt aware, there is trouble afoot in our land. The northern states of the Union have peremptorily stated that not only slavery is to be abolished, but that the Federal Government in the Columbia District has the right to supercede the desire and direction of the various states.

We find this intolerable.

We have therefore declared the former states of Louisiana and Florida to be free and independant, no longer bound by the statutes and ordinances of the United States of America.

Further, as we desire no foreign entanglements, we have also completed a statement of detachment and isolation from said USA and their individual partitions.

We do, however, wish to ensure our continued new-found freedom in the manner in which we have become accustomed, and so we thereby propose and request that our august neighbors directly to the north of the GGPA enter into a non-beligerance agreement with the GGPA.

The terms of the agreement, or treaty, are simple: the states of Alabama and Mississippi will continue to allow our naval units access to their ports and waters and we in turn will continue to supply them with salt, cattle, lumber and cotton in amounts mutually satisfactory to each. To the states of Texas and Georgia we offer the same, and to all neighbors we offer aid, both military and financial as the need arises.

All we ask is that we be allowed to pursue our destiny as we believe the Creator has set forth in His Holy Word.

The GGPA is prepared to send emissaries to each of the several states to discuss and ratify the above proposal. We are able and prepared to do this in just a matter of days.

We await your response.

In the name of Peace and Prosperity, we are:

Regent James Delancoux
Regent William Lee

His August Majesty, Norton I, Imperial States of America,

Greetings and salutations!

We, the respective Regents of The Grand Gulf Province of America, do hereby wish to open discussion concerning the possibility of an Alliance between the ISA and the GGPA.

We both hold to the notion that slavery is an abomination in the eyes of God and man, and have mutually and concurrently taken steps and measures to rectify this deplorable situation in each of our respective lands.

We both have considerable coastlines to both enjoy and protect.

We both have considerable resources, natural and manufactured, that would be mutually beneficial to both nations.

We are prepared to send a party of representatives to a destination suitable to His Majesty at a time agreeable to all to discuss these several measures.

We await your reply.

In the name of Freedom, Brotherhood, and Liberty, we are:

Regent James Delancoux

Letter to Governor Letcher

I am sure by now you have heard of the assassination of our Governor as sad as this news is we have more pressing matters to discuss..our states are both in great proximity to the Union and as such it is vital we support one another. Governor Spencer of North Carolina

Letter to Florida and Louisiana Regents

Great Regents of the states of Florida and Louisiana, As you by now know Governor Harold was gunned down earlier this week and I James Spencer am now acting Governor of North Carolina. Seeing as Louisiana and Florida both could provide great resources to our cause I request a formal meeting with both Regenets to discuss matters..and establish some form of agreement between our State and this new nation you have created...I would prepose a meeting in Tallahasse between myself and the both of you..I await your reply anxiously.

In the event people hadn't known this -

In the Civil War, both sides sought it pretty much immoral to dig up trenches. They knew they were already scarring American enough, so why ruin the soil for future generations to come? Also, the full idea of Trench warfare didn't exist until about the 1880s when Colonial Powers needed a new way to defend colonies with small garrisons.

So yea..

Regents Lee and Delancoux rode into the forward camp of the Black Legions, those former slaves who decided to stay within the new nation. No doubt the offer of 10 acres of land when their term of service was through had something to do with their decision.

A guard challenged them, and they smiled their approval. "Very good, corporal. Would you advise your commandant of the arrival of your Regents." The soldier snapped to attention, saluted, and hustled over to the command tent. Shortly, a ramrod stiff major by the name of Samuel Johnson emerged and saluted the pair. "We are surprised and honored by your visit, sirs. Would you care to step into my tent?"

Lee spoke. "Actually, Major, we would like a tour of your camp. We are anxious to see what progress has been made in the construction of our Iron Wall here along the orthern border."

"Right this way, sirs, if you please. As you can see, we are approximately 70% finished with ths section of the Wall, which brings us to a total of almost 700 miles of some of the toughest terrain in the country to cross. Miles of rock walls, 3 feet to 6 feet in height. Ditches and potholes large enough to hold 2 - 40 men in them, and the new-fangled iron-and-steel fence known as razor wire. As you can see, it's a deadly combination of barbed hooks and extremely sharp pieces of metal." The Regents looked at the wire, spread out in 50-yard swaths, each swath 25 yards apart.

"Lord Almighty," exclaimed Delancoux, "only fools would try and cross that stretch of land!" He observed the cannon lined up at 20 foot intervals, and the embankments behind them. "How many men are ultimately going to be posted along the northern border, Major?"

"Right now sir, we have over 200,000 up here. The Black Legions will make up another 4,000, and we are currently enjoying a massive rush of volunteers to the army. No doubt, sirs, due to your generous offers of free land when the fighting is over." He smiled, and gave them a slight bow.

Lee looked at the Major for a long minute. "Major, might I remark on your obviously elegant speech, and you knowledge of things only engineers would be aware of?"

Major Johnson looked down for a moment. "Yes sir, thank you. As a slave, I was very well treated, to the point that my former master provided me with an extensive education. As a matter of fact, most of the slaves on our plantation were treated similarly."

"And who was your former master, Major?"

"Why, I believe it was your cousin, sir. Mister Thomas Washington, of Apopka Acres, sir. A fine man, sir."

The Regents glanced at each other. "And what, pray tell, happened to my cousin, Major? We've not heard from him in quite the while."

Johnson smiled. "Well, sir, he's formed his own little army, called the Okefenokee Fusilliers. Five hundred-fifty of the finest fighters, trackers, and snipers these eyes have ever seen, sir. Fully half of them are Indians."

Delancoux said, "Indians? You mena them Seminoles who caused all the ruckus a hundred years ago?"

"The very same, sir. Only now theyr'e on our side."

"Well I'll be damned", said Lee. "Where are they now?"

"Down in the swamp, sir. They'll be available for duty within the week."

Just then, a rider could be seen bearing down on the group at high speed. All drew their weapons, but Delancoux yelled, "Hold your fire! It's Clem!"

The rider reined up in a cloud of dust. "Sirs, a message from the new Governor of North Carolina."

"What the.....lemme see that." Lee grabbed the pouch from the rider. "Son, go get yourself something to eat and be ready to ride in two hours." The rider saluted and took off for the mess tent.

"Well, Bill, what's it say?"

Lee read through it once more. "It appears that that high-strung Harold got himself killed by some yankees and the new Governor wants to talk to us about an alliance!"

Delancoux was thunderstruck. "Well, I'll be..........an auspicious turn of events, wouldn't you say?"

"Damn right, Jim. He wants to meet us in Tallahassee." He waved to an adjutant. "Sergeant, get a message to the Governor in North Carolina. Tell him at his conveniance we would be honored to meet with him in Tallahassee."

"Yes, sir. Will the rider who just came in be going with me, sir?"

"Yes, in two hours. He needs some food and sleep. See to it that it's no more than two hours."

"Yessir. Right away sir."

Governor Spencer sat in his study...the reminants of Governor Harold's belongings still had yet to be cleaned out completely from his office when an officer appeared with a letter from the Regents of Florida and Louisiana..He quickly read their reply over before turning to the young officer...

"This is great news...prepare a ship for Travel to the state of Florida I will be leaving in three days to meet with the Regents..In my stead I will appoint General Frisk acting governor of the state..and have a rider send word of my intent immediately..hopefully some sort of friendly relationship can forged and Harold's arrogance didn't cause us much damage."

"Right away sir." The young officer replyed before rushing off to deliver the message

Meanwhile...

General Wilson rode along side the middle of the massive column of troops advancing north towards Virginia to help their brothers in the united cause for freedom and to help defend against any early Union attacks.

News of Governor Harold's assassination had reached Wilson and made him slightly weary..however he was a somewhat religious man and believed the good lord would take him when he it was his time and thus dismissed such notions.

Wilson was a good commander and took every opportunity to drill his troops when they made camp practicing everything from target practice and reloading to tactics, as a result the army marched with great discipline and high morale chanting out cadences and singing old southern folk songs as they marched along, many men were anxious for combat and ready to take a shot at the real yanks instead of empty bottles atop fence posts and hay dummies....

The President then ordered that the men to get ready to charge. He couldn't wait any longer. He needed to save Maryland.

A long journey had finally come to an end as 8,000 troops lined the borders of Maryland were they had been instructed to meet with the Presidents men. Word was coming in that they were nearby and preparing for assault, though Governor Wisner, who had not joined the fight, had told his troops clearly to 'not be so stupid to go into any death trap attack the President has, and to wait for the New Yorkers to arrive before preparing to defend Maryland' - he was not going to send his men into a battle where they were outnumbered.

General. Harry Johnson could see Union troops, or so he hoped, closeby and supposed they were the Presidents, and so he sent a messanger to inform them they were here. The war was starting here, in Maryland. Or so he thought, though rumour had it something was happening in Florida.

To: the right minded leaders of the Proud Gulf Province.

Goodday to you my friends, and what a bright and glorious sun rises upon this land! Liberty shines forth, basking your magnificent state while casting shadows of despair among those barbaric states that continue the scourge of slavery.

Our peoples, though seperated by desert, should come as close as brothers, as our Heavenly Lord hath intended. Therefore I propose an alliance between us. If one should come under attack, the other shall come to the other's aid.

I request a meeting with at least one of the leaders of your state for a discussion on the follwing topics:
1. The Slave States
2. The Union
3. Texas
4. Trade

You will be remembered as Slavery's greatest ally, coming to its infernal aid when it suits your personal desire.

I will make my purpose very clear. Rejoin the union, or face possible military action against your treachery. Once the South is retaken with a grave cost of American life, your pathetic insubordination will be crushed easily by Union troops. Either way, your "imperial states" will again be ruled by the democratic government of these United States, and I would advise pursuing the course that does not involve losing your life at a Federal Noose.

I hope you make the right decision, as your lone rampaging treacherous act might have cost 4 million Slaves their freedom.

I'm Sorry, but I have to leave this Rp. A few Historical inaccuracies I can swallow (Buchanan declaring slavery illegal, massive conscription) but this has gotten into the realm of fantasy. California, a state that barely voted Republican in 1860, has seamlessly seceded and formed an anti-slavery dictatorship despite it's heavy Southern and also heavy loyalist population. The "Gulf States" territory has formed an army 1/5th its total population size and abolished slavery, even though Louisiana and Florida are about as Deep South as you can get. OOC:Um, the West is a dictatorship based around anti-slaveryism. They left the union because the we wouldn't declare war on you soon enough for their tastes (supposedly)

And I don't think that the RP is going to stop there. Sorry, but I'm out.

Mr Norton it has come to my attention that you have formed a Western Empire..I believe it would be in the best interest for us to have a meeting of some sort obviously we share some Ideals as we have both decided to leave the tyrannical oppressors of the North..I believe despite our differences agreements and compromises can be made.

Governor Spencer, Of the Great State of North Carolina

From Norton I, Emperor of the Imperial States of America
To: Governor Spencer, Of the Great State of North Carolina

We would be interested in discussion between our two peoples, not only on political, economic, and military matters, but on slavery. I understand you will not give up your slaves, so perhaps we can work something out where the ISA could buy them off you.

The North has become threating to one of freedom's supporters, and in so has destroyed any possible chances of freidnship between us. I invite you to come to San Francisco and see the Empire for yourself.

The rain was coming down in buckets when the little party crested the hill and saw the town of San Francisco some 20 miles away. Regent Delancoux had refused to ride in the stagecoach. He considered humself no better than any other man, so he gallantly allowed the two ladies that had accompanied him to ride in it.

The soaked, bedraggled group stood for a moment looking down at the town, then started the long descent. Delancoux noticed the narrow access points into the town. 'Great defensive position', he thought. He also noticed the numerous ships in the harbor, not a few of which were warships.

After an hour, the rain stopped and the warm rays of a late spring sun came out and warmed their bones. When they were just on the outskirts of the town, one of the scouts shouted and waved, pointing in a westerly direction.

Apparently, the authorities had seen them coming, for out of the gates along the eastern side of the town came a full column of cavalry headng right for them. "Well, ladies and gentlemen, we're either going to receive an Emperor's welcome, or we're going to be strung up and gutted like chickens!" As the column came within shouting range, he yelled "Howdy!" and raised his hand in a wave. Out of the corner of his mouth, he said, "Sergeant, just in case, make sure your troopers are ready to fire on my command, and my command ONLY!"

Delancoux was all but sure that the Emperor was a sensible man. He certainly hoped so.....he certainly did.

28-04-2007, 16:34
"HO! Welcome to the Imperial States!." The Calvary officer stopped his column, who were dressed in uniforms more befitting of a Prussian style. The officer disembarked from his horse, and shook Delancoux's hand. "Before we get to the formalities sir, may I just say I have always loved Cajun food and accents. Now sir, if you'll follow me to the Emperor's palace."

The officer climbed onto his horse once again and led them through San Francisco in what could only be called a "royal fashion." Classical military marching musioc was being played, and citizens were coming out and cheering.

Finally they came to the Emperor's palace, a converted manshion of large size with Imperial Guards stationed all around it. One of them came forth, his crisp red uniform picture perfect. "Welcome Mr. Delancoux. The Emperor awaits." He led the party inside.

The interior was amazing. Pictures were hanging from the wall, massive chandeliers were in every room. The Emperor's wealth was displayed in all its glory. Gold was everywhere, and nearly everything seemed plated with it. Finally, the Gulfers were led into a picture studio, where the Emperor was taking his first picture.

"Good day to you sir and madams! One moment please." The photographer snapped the photo and rushed to develop it.

Peter Mac Donnel knocked on the front door of Elder Young's home. The door opened and framed in the door was the Elder himself. " Peter my boy come in. You look worried what has happened?"
" A rider has just come in form Sacramento and from what the dispatches say not only have numerous southern states left the Union but California has left and declared themselves an Empire."
"Show me the reports and give me a minute."
Mac Donnel paced the floor for what seemed like hours as Young read the dispatches. Brigham Young looked up after reading the large number of reports that came in. " One question before I continue why did we not hear any of this out of the Telegraph office?"
" The lines were cut sir, Governor Cummings and General Johnson are both Southern sympathizers and they may have wanted to cut the lines to keep us in the dark."
" Well I think it is time I see our good Governor."
"Both the Governor and the General have left this morning on leaves of absence. It seems to me that they have been keeping the news to themselves so they could leave with out knowing what was going on."
" Peter are the lines back up?"
" We have found the breaks and are repairing them now."
" Good send this message."

To: The President of the United States
From: Brigham Young

Sir do you intend to defend the Utah Territories. If you feel you can not send troops to defend Utah from those forces who threaten us then I intend to defend ourselves By any means necessary.
I can not understand why you could not keep California in the Union. We are on their doorstep and action must be taken to preserve the Utah territories and the Union. If this can not be done then The LDS must step forward and defend ourselves. Mr President it is your choice what happens in Utah.
May God have mercy on your soul.

About a week and a half after Delancoux and company departed the GGPA, Regent Lee was sitting in the shade of a large cypress tree, pouring over the latest maps of the Americas. He was so intent on the maps that he didn't hear the rider pull up. The rider, a Lt. Van Nostrand out of LaGrange, stood at attention for a full three minutes before he cleared his throat loudly enough to rouse the Regent out of his reverie.

"Yes, Lieutenent, what is it?"

"Dispatches, sir, from the west. Details are sketchy, but it appears that the Utah Territories are now in the hands of an elder of those scurrilous Latter Day Saints we done been hearin' about."

"WHAT? Lemme see those reports." He read through them quickly. "And Buchanan has sent 9,000 troopers their way. We must head those troops off before they get to Salt Lake. Send a wire to Regent Delancoux apprising him of the situation. Perhaps he can get our new-found Imperial friend to lend a hand. We must 'educate' this elder.....Young.....as to the ways of the present world."

"Yessir. Right directly sir."

"And Lieutenant. Have General Beauregard prepare to leave with 16,000 men, including cavalry and cannon, to the soon-to-be-organized territory of Oklahoma. This will be our forward base of operations for sorties into the Kansas, Nebraska, and Utah Territories."

Capt. Parmenter held up a gloved hand and the patrol halted. He waved them to both sides of the dirt road where they concealed themselves in the thick brush. Poking his head up, Parmenter could see the Yankee brigade marhing up the road as if they were the only people on earth. 'Arrogant bastards', he thought.

"Cap'n, how many are there?", whispered Cpl. Stoney Jones, the youngest of the Provincial troops. Parmenter held a finger to his lips. He turned back to see about 500 bluebellies making their way up and over one of the numerous hills of eastern Kansas. Only a handful were mounted. 'So', Parmenter thought, 'these are regular army.'

He slid back down an embankment and gathered his boys around. In a low voice, he said, "Men, there's a brigade of regular army yankees over there. Looks like they might be the forward element of the main force. We got to get word to Gen. Beauregard to bring up a couple of thousand of our boys. We have to prevent any yankee involvment in the Utah territories."

He glanced around the trunk of a cottonwood. "Spencer, ride back to HQ and let the General know their relative position as of three hours from now. Tell him I'd suggest an artillery barrage before our engaging them."

"Yessuh, Cap'n. On my way."

The two men waited at the GOvernor's office, one wearing a strange green uniform, the other a dark blue uniform from the United States. Both men were dressed for their best, and both had a ton of paperwork with them.

The call for the meeting came, both men walking evenly as they headed towards Governor Brown's office. Colonel Rains had resigned his commision, and Major Salisbury had been elected by the men of the 5th Georgia Regiment about a month ago. Most of his men were from militia groups, such as the Clinch rifles.

Colonel Rains had been sent by a random senator. His name currently not mentioned. THe idea was set, and he'd tried to find the best place to address it. Major Salisbury was brought into it. Colonel Rains began the discussion.

"Sir. I am here from a Senater Davis who sent me throughout the seceding states to find a location appropriate for a location that would be perfect for a Powder Works. CUrrently Georgia and the rest of the South do not have a place to create powder or ammunition for the war that looms over the horizon. I believe the best location for this works would be in the city of AUgusta on the border of Georgia and SOuth Carolina. Hamburg would also be a viable area, but I believe that Augusta would be much more suited with it's railroad network."

"I am requesting funds to build this works as well as promises from slave owners in the area to construct this. With it we can sustain any army that is needed."

OOC: It's a year early, but in 7 months of construction, the Augusta Powder Works became the 2nd Largest Powder works in the world. And supplied 1/3rd of all Powder to the COnfedrate Armies during the war. In the real war that is.

Corporal Jones had no sooner got word to Gen. Beauregard when the General called his senior officers together for a quick "how-to".

"Gentlemen, the situation we have here needs to be addressed with overwhelming force. Capt. Parmenter figures that we have about a day and a half to get in place west of the advancing yankee troops. His original estimate of 500 has grown to over 700 including a handful of cavalry. No artillery. That must be back with the main body of the 9,000 sent by Buchanan.

We have over 1,300 troopers, 150 cavalry, and 22 cannon smack dab in the center of the Kansas Territory........directly between them and the Utah Territory border. I'm ordering Major Smedly, Major Dundee, and Lt. Col. Joyner to spread out in an arc three miles wide on the other side of Sulphur Creek, deep in the woods. We're gonna let 'em get some of their men across the creek and then open fire while the bulk is still in the water.

Right where we anticipate them crossing is about four foot or so deep. Just deep enough to slow 'em down and make manuvering difficult. The remnant on the far side of the creek will be hammered by the artillery. Any questions?"

There were none.

"Very well, gentlemen. To your troops."

Even as Regent Delancoux was meeting with Norton I of the ISA, the situation in the NMT was accelerating. Back in the GGPA, Regent Lee was sipping a shot of Old Hound Dog when a courier rode into camp........in a hurry. He jumped off the horse, gave the guard the password, and entered the Regent's tent.

Saluting, he said, "Sir! News from the west!"

Lee looked up calmly at the young man. "What's your name, son?"

"Dinofrio, sir. Of the New York Dinofrios, sir."

"New York? Whatcha doin' down here, son?"

"Well, sir, let's put it this way: not all northerners approve of President Buchanan's policies. So me and the little woman headed down here, where people are civilized."

Lee chuckled. "Well said, son. Now, what about this news from the west?"

"It seems, sir, that the Tejas Territory has been taken over by elements unknown to us at this point. All we know is that the area has been renamed The Texas Union and they are reportedly looking to join us and the ISA in an alliance."

"Really? Well, we'll have to see what developes out there. Anything else?"

"Yessir. Hostile elements have settled the New Mex Territory and have declared for the Union! They are preparing to invade southern California!"

That got Lee's attention. "OK, son. Go get yourself some food and rest. Be ready to ride in four hours."

Turning to his aide, he said, Sergeant, two things. Get word to Delancoux and the Emperor about this supposed invasion into their southern holdings. Tell them we will do all we can to suppress and halt this audacious situation. Also, let whoever the hell is in charge in Texas know that we will be marching 65,000 troops and cavalry through their lands in response to the ISA threat by NMT. Suggest to them that they raise as many troops as possible. There's gonna be a war!"

"Anything else, sir?"

He thought for a minute. "Yes, get word to my cousin, Major General Washington over in Ocala, that the Province is in need of his unique capabilities. And tell him to move his ass!"

"Yessir."

OOC: Before we get too far, I just want to point out some things.

Texas is, by definition, the ass end of no-where. New Mexico, by definition, is the ass-end of no-where of Texas, double [if not triple] backwater.

There isn't any of this ‘we'll just be marching a couple tens of thousands of troops through it.' There just are not the railroads that could hold up to that kind of traffic. Several thousand of semi-dispersed Rangers that are used to living off the desert sounds right; 65.000 is la-la-land.

IC:

In response to the movement, or at least rumors of movement by the Rebs, or Confederates if you prefer, New Mexico is polarized instantly. Most large cities south of the desert start up their own rebel governments while they fight the garrisons. To the north, and certain parts of the south, Union supporters mobilize fairly large militias to defend themselves from what they see as invaders.

The incursion into California meets local resistance, but while fierce, does not seem organized.

Don't want to sound like an ass though so don't take this the wrong way!

OOC: Actually Moor, during the REAL civil war the union troops attacked from Illnois to Poison Spring near Texas. Thats a even longer trip and also we have sources of water (Rio Grande and many other river, we're 2nd in inland water in the USA from Alaska) to up to El Paso near New Mexico. We also attacked Mexico from San Antonio away before being annexed which is farther away than New Mexico and also Santa Anna attacked Texas during the Texas Revolution from Mexico City to San Jacinto without really stopping to rest.

You can see the rivers in this map. There's also a river from Texas going deep into New Mexico too. We can't use boats since its too shallow though :P

ICC: (They just started to go there and not quite there yet either so no fighting.)

----------------Rio Grande Expedition------------------

The Texas Rangers rode on their worn out saddle with Six Shooters by their sides. Captain Red was leading the troops towards the New Mexico by going down, passing by several rivers to get water, and followed the Rio Grande. They were, of course, used to this by fighting the savage Commanches and Apaches. Soon during the Rio Grande Trip, the troops went off a different riverway which led to NM.

The incursion into California meets local resistance, but while fierce, does not seem organized.

ooc: simply a misplaced '0': 6,500 is what was meant....sorry....

OOC: Rivers go from North to South, meaning, you aren't going anywhere trying to canoe up the Rio Grande. As for Sannta Anna, he just about killed his army trying to get to the Alamo, besides, he had a whole country's worth of supplies behind his back, you certainly do not.

It's cool Xeraph, hate when that happens to me.

Uh, whose CA again?

IC:

The Rangers get a mighty warm welcome outside Farwell. A a militia, formed from the outlying area and the hamlet of Clovis, crossed the border and the decleration of war, without the consent of the central government in New Mexico, took the town and have bunkered down. They came prepared for a long siege. Equipped with a few cannons, a thousand men, and a determined spirit they are making this city and hard nut to crack.

Initial skirmishes have resulted in a few casualties, not too many though, and have mainly done nothing to the general fighting spirit.

The clashes between the two different parties, Federal and Confederate, continue, especially in the south. While the open rioting is not as strong as it was before, it could be described as only nominally so, as the few Federal supporters have been driven out or killed of the real hotspots.

The little expedition to California, with its recent success of taking the undefended town of Vidal and the junction named after it, is bolstered as it is becoming apparent that the Californian seccesionists weren't as prepared as they thought they were for the war.
