"And so, good people, we release the budget for this year! Along with increased military spending has come more good news for voters. Tax cuts, and tariff reductions with friendly nations. The fees on the Suez Canal, and Gilbratar Strait remain the same, but we assume the latest cuts will allow the Empire to remain economically competitive as we enter a new era of prosperity."

The radio blared, and the woman looked up momentarily.

"Firstly, the flat income tax will be cut by 7%, and property taxes by 4%. Tariffs will be slashed when it pertains to imports by allied nations, although they remain level when dealing with nations the Empire considers potentially a threat. This has led the Exchequer to report a deficit, with the Royalist-controlled Parliament running its first deficit in eight years. However, it is said, the increase in prosperity will quickly offset the deficit, and the dreadnoughts will allow the Empire to more efficiently manage smuggling, and will no doubt pay their own keep. With the increased tension in Europe, following the assassination of the German Kaiser, army spending has also been increased, and social spending in the terms of hospitals and social security for higher-income families has been slashed."

She winced.

"However, the newer employer equity laws, requiring a maximum of a thirteen-hour workday for full-bodied men between the age of seventeen and thirty, a six hour workday for women, acknowledging their need to work in the home, and a six hour workday for children, will no doubt make up for the lack of the spending on social security. Furthermore, a new corporation, publicly-traded, has sprung up, hiring homeless and poor people for a small wage, as well as daily food, and living space. The Benduz Corporation has provided immensely to the economic plan of the Royalist government, and, to many, this plan has been nicknamed the Benduz Plan."

"Until next time, this is the Illar Broadcasting Group, and I'm John Simons."
