Earth 1930

This probably seems ridiculous...
I'm a newbie. No doubt about it. I am it in the purest form. I've posted in one thread. And here I am, trying to start an Earth. Wow. I have to say, in all modesty, I am one ambitious son of a bitch, no? But there is something incredibly appealing about the 1930s that I find in no other Earth. Be it the classy cars, the cigars, the trench coats, the fedoras, the vocabularies- I have no idea, but there is something just so damn awesome about it, y'know? So here I am, trying to start an Earth. Continue reading or you'll regret it.

How the hell is this gonna work?
That's probably your first question. Mine too. Great minds think alike, no? Anyway, lets get to that question of ours. How is this going to work? I'll tell you how. It's gonna work like this. We're going to gather quality nations run by quality writers with quality minds and personalities who want to work with quality people. We're going to all sit down, and have a chat, in this thread, about how the Earth of the 1930s is going to work. The continents, religions, major cities, major brand names, and borders. We'll see if we can grab a skilled mapmaker to throw us together some imagery, which always helps.
We'll then get started on the threads - activity is the key. Without activity we are not appealing, and without members there is no activity, so keep reading, damnit.

Indeed, there are going to be ground rules...
I am right now going to lay out some ground rules, regulations, and systems.
Listen up, cause this is the cream of this post. This is the who, why, where, when and how of making Earth 1930 awesome.

To join up, for now, you will need to post an example of your writing. I will judge you (once more join, they will also judge), and decide whether or not you're in (all members decide, but since I am currently the only member...Only I decide). Your sample must be in the 1930s setting.
I want this Earth to start really fresh, which means I'll need everyone to create new countries.
Once you are in you can suggest religions, continent names, city names, river names, mountain names, and other such things that assist in the development of the Earth.
Once you are in you are free to post helpful links such as name generators and government structures. This would help a ton in the creation of new countries.
Once you are in, and settled with the idea for your new country, you must post a list of the major government officials positions and their names, everything from President/Dictator to Minister of Health. Posting their specific obligations is optional.
It would be most helpful that once you are accepted you post a picture of what generally you hope your country would look like. You can also post major rivers and mountains and forests, etc. A paragraph description of a certain spot in your country that sums its terrain up would be nice. Also, country flags are required.
An estimation of your population (not neccesarily your actual nationstates country just what you want it to be).
A good thing to do would be to post a basic, 2 paragraph (at least) Day-In-The-Life-Of-My-Country's-Citizen thing. It's optional but suggested.
Make one post that is your Earth-1930's official country post. Put all of the above descriptions and suggestions in that. A link to your official post will be put in the thread's first post (this.)
Make sure that you realize your Earth-1930's nation does not have to be an actuality in the real nationstates game. It can just be a forum concept if you want.
Suggestions for major brand names and religions and other such things are more than welcome and don't have to be put in your official post. They will be copy and pasted into this post.

Dude, this seems real strict man...
If you have the guts to do it, you're awesome. If you don't, you're normal. If people actually follow through with the above, Earth 1930s would be so awesome your jaw would drop everytime you read an Earth 1930s RP thread.

Seriously, you want to do this.

Im interested in this. I was just wondering what youll do about tech. People always push ahead for things like the Bf-109 in 1935 type thing.

You'll see above is a list of weapons technology that was available in the 1930s decade.

If you plan to apply, please read the above post. You'll need to write up a two paragraph sample of your Roleplaying skills. Thanks,
Trutica.

Wait, I'm a little curious. If I want to, can I keep the country's name and places and stuff? And how much can I claim?

Size will be discussed. You should be able to claim a fairly sized country, but remember, at this point in time, being so large had its weaknesses too.

Your countries name and major cities n' such may be kept, but we ask you to create many new officials and other things of that sort to keep it unique to Earth 1930. Also, none of the events that have unfolded in past non-Earth 1930 events would count.

I'm interested, what do I need to do the sample on?

I leave it to your imagination. The setting however must be in the 1930s. Some good situations is something dealing with the alcohol Prohibition of the 30s (this was in America, a constitutional amendment that banned alcohol. Earth 1930s will of course not be anything like our Earth geographically and therefore there will be no America, but this is just a sample post).

Yeah, my grandpa actually ran a speak easy back in the day in St. Paul, MN. Here I go...

Setting: Off the Coast of Southern California near Mexican waters

The wind was cool as it blew over the decks of the Drunken Angel, a boat belonging to the famous rum-runner Alfonse Macciano. The crew had made hundreds of runs on this craft, and in return had made millions in smuggled drink. Prohibition was still running hot, and rum meant money.

Captain Carmine Galliucci stood on the decks absorbing the winds. All of the sudden, he noticed a bad sight. "Benito, give me my binoculars." he said to his first mate.

"Yes, sir." said Benito as he reached into a cabinet and produced a pair. He tossed them to the Captain who began to peer out onto the horizon. A Coast Guard vessel cut its way towards them. Carmine hadn't been caught before, and he wasn't going to let this be his first. He went over to the speaker and addressed his crew.

"Listen up!" he announced. "We've got Fed's moving in on us again. You know the drill." The crew began working away. The engines were kicked into overdrive and the crew stashed the tequila shipment into hidden areas on the ship. The crew then grabbed their supply of Thompson SMG's and their newly acquired PTRD high-caliber rifle. The Captain swung the craft into overdrive and sweeped towards the fog on the shore.

The Coast Guard vessel saw this move and headed to cut them off. The CG had the advantage and soon cut them off. "Attention vessel. This is the USCG. You are to halt immediately or be fired upon." The rum-runners didn't stop, they just kept on moving. "You have one more chance. Halt immediately or be fired upon." The runners kept moving away. The CG decided enough was enough and began to fire warning shots with their 25mm gun across the rum-runner's bow.

"Captain! They're shooting at us!" yelled a crewman. Carmine just laughed.

"Well," he said. "Fire back."

"Aye, sir." replied the crewman. All of the crew went deckside and opened up. The PTRD began thumping away and popped some nasty holes in the wheelhouse of the CG vessel. The Captain of the CG vessel told his crew to open fire as well with the rest of the guns, and soon a battle erupted. After close to five minutes of gunfire, the rum-runners were clearly losing.

"Captain! What do we do?" shouted a crewman. The Captain didn't answer. He merely shifted the boat into high gear and moved straight towards the CG vessel. Many of his crew were either dead or wounded, and he was going out with a bang. He slammed the Angel straight into the vessel, crushing the front of the Angel and ripping a hole in the side of the CG vessel. "Attack!" yelled the Captain as the remaining crew jumped aboard the CG ship. A gunfight erupted, but the mafioso were fought back. As the Angel backed off the CG vessel and began to sink. Carmine, wounded and dying, sat back and took one last sip of Jose Cuervo as he sunk below the waves.

(Sample post)

A man in a fedora hat and dark pinstriped suit, looking nervously about himself, quietly opened the door to Big Joe Mugatti's 'office'. In his suit he had a shoulder holstered revolver, a gun which he hoped he wouldn't have to use. The man, Victor Atreides, was one of the newest of Mugatti's rum runners - a man who quietly moved illicit rum and beer into the country, and got out again without being caught. "Quietly" was an overstatement for Victor, though, he had nearly been caught twice and was forced to off an unlucky police officer that tried to stop his truck. The man was understandably scared - killing a police officer was a surefire way of bringing the entire weight of the law down on you, and Mugatti was prepared to either protect him from the law or kill him and prevent him from talking.

"Boss." Victor said, nodding his hat and looking around him for the guards that were somehow watching and listening for the signal from the boss.

"Victor, Victor, Victor." Big Joe said, tapping his cigar against an ashtray.

"Got yourself in a bit of a trap, eh? I heard you managed to off one of the pigs on the Ten."

"Yeah, boss, listen, you gotta hide me, do something, the pigs are comin' after me. I like this business, Boss.." Victor blabbered out, and the Boss looked in his eyes with a steely look.

"Victor, I can't run the risk that you'll talk. You've already proven that you're capable of screwing up, and I can't have anyone that can mess things up for the Family any more.." Joe said, and he snapped his fingers. Two massive, burly guards entered the room, in equally snappy suits and hats, each holding a tommy gun in case things got messy.

"You know what to do, gents. Silence him." Joe said, and he turned his chair around and listened for the cracking of Victor's skull against the butt of a guard's tommy gun. As they dragged the inert body out, Joe chuckled to himself, and thought Gotta get myself a new guy, now.

Two hours after the formerly living Victor Atreides had been disposed of, the top lieutenant to Big Joe Mugatti entered the office, giving the Family hand sign and a tip of his fedora to the Boss.

"You called for me, Boss?" Federico Biscetti asked, at ease in the headquarters of his boss.

"Yes, Federico. I'm sure you've heard the fate of our friend Victor?" the Boss said, lighting a new cigar for himself.

"Yeah, yeah. Heard he shot a cop." Biscetti said, wondering what the Boss wanted him to do.

"Victor, despite his shortcomings, was a nice source of income for the Family. Find someone to replace him."

"Well...Jim Morissey was his Second on the boat, and he knows what he's doing." Biscetti thought out loud, and the Boss nodded and shook some ash out of his cigar.

"Tell him that he's now the Captain of the good ship S.S. Cassandra, and his pay is doubled. Make sure he understands the importance of not asking questions, hear?" Mugatti said, and waved his hand to dismiss Biscetti.

"Got it." He tipped his hat again, and left the room.

Candistan, you're in, nice post.

Please now make an official post listing your new country's currency, major cities, a basic flag (can be the same as before), a basic map (can be the same as before), terrain info, etc. I'll be linking your "official post" in the main thread.

Whyatican, you're also in. Please make your official post too.
