A City in Space... (FT, Open)

In the backwaters of space, even those who wish to remain unknown need a place to refuel and reload. Many such places exist, but few are as moble as their occupants. One such place is a Super Star Destroyer (http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/nx9100/SSD.jpg). Abandoned after a great battle, it was discovered and rebuilt by the Romano Family Cartel to serve as a moble base of opperations. Now known as the Bari, the ship was rebuilt, and was moddified for its new role as a moble base of opperations. The main launch bay was enlarged to 175m long and 140m wide. An new massive hanger of equal size and 46m tall was built aft of
the launch bay and was sealed with armored doors. The fighter bays and support chambers were replaced with conventional hangers to support small freighters. The ship has the standard Imperial armament, with additional quad-laser turrets for small-ship defense. After the rebuild, the crew requirement was lowered to 6000, due in part to large-scale automation and stolen computer systems. Luxury quarters were built in the upper decks, complete with a fully equiped Italian resturant, the Taste of Bari. A table for 8 is permamently resurved for the Godfather.
The Family also has 4 small raider ships, known to some as the Akyazi-
class (http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/nx9100/akyazi2.jpg). Modified for speed and defense, the ships are used to "collect" depts owed to the Family. With 3 torpedo launchers (2 for, 1 aft), and 8 phaser banks, they are capable of stoping the most determend freighters.
Fianally, the last ship is considered the "flagship". Stolen from a Terren shipyard, the Golden Flyer (http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/nx9100/intrepid-1.jpg) is a stardard Intrepid-class starship, with the addition of prototype ablative armor. The armor is deployed only when required. The Golden Flyer serves as the Godfather's private yaght.
Many different races live aboard the Bari, most work for the family, some for themselves. The ship is a city in space, with small freighters coming and going at all times. Any ship is welcome, provided that they handle their business without upsetting the Family's. All you have to do to dock is to contact the ship's A.I. All levels of the Bari are available, with the exception of the bridge tower, bottom-most engineering decks, the hanger aft the main launch bay, and weapons stations.
(ooc: this is an open thread. Anyone can post (IC only please, send any ooc to me as a TG) and use this thread for any rp reason. Feel free to make your own story, with or without my involvement. Also, feel free to create any charactors that serve or live onboard the Bari, however anyone with authority (ex. command crew or Family members) should only be RP'ed by myself. Any other questions, please TG me.)

Knock, knock, knock.
Its just the relays, he thought to himself as he sat at his computer going over shipping reports.
Knock, knock, knock. It was louder this time. Coming from the door.
Damn, he thought. Comm must be down again. He got up from the desk and walked accross the room. A slap on the door release and it slid open. "What is it?" he asked the young man in the hallway.
"Sorry to bug you," the young man replied. "We recieved a message from the Roma. They made contact and are attemping to open negotiations."
"Who's in charge?"
"The Ferengi, Ranax."
"That idiot?" he laughed. "Ranax's a good salesman, but he takes forever to close a deal. Oh well," he sighed. "Someone's got to sell all those phaser rifles we got in storage." He turned back into his room. "Thanks," he said as the door closed. After getting a glass of beer from the replicator, he returned to the computer. "Vesta!" he called out.
A shimmer of light appeared above the computer, and quickly formed into the image of a woman. "Yes?" asked the A.I. (http://unscleric.com/sitebuilder/images/Cortanaletterpic-202x241.jpg)
"What's the problem with the door comms?" he asked
"I'm sorry Antonio," she replied. "The door comm for this room appears to have shorted out. I will summon a repair tech right away."
"Good. Thank you." replied Antonio.
"If that's all you summoned me for, then I'll be going." She crossed her arms over her chest. "Eldest son or not, don't bother me with such little things. This ship doesn't fly itself you know." With that, her image shimmered and vanished.
"Damn A.I.," muttered Antonio.
[I heard that] scrolled accross his screen.
"just get that comm fixed, would ya?" Then with a drink of beer, he leaned over and went back to work...

OOC: Sorry for being late, I hope this post will make up for it...
IC:
The dark passageways of space can hid much and one of the many dangerous elements out there was the Syndicate. This powerful crime organization had been in business for several centuries every since the original members left Earth to start a new life out amongst the stars and eventually they started applying their trade out in the vastness of space. The Rastorians had long been a people plagued by organized crime and finally after a series of well placed bribes, brutal extortion practices, and several assassinations. The Syndicate had managed to incorporate all of the Rastorians Colonial worlds into a powerful network controlled by the Five Crime Cabals.
The Syndicate’s powerbases were luckily based way out on the fringe of the Galaxy giving them much distance from the nearest signs of police authority. This great deal of freedom managed to open a lot of business opportunities for the over growing crime syndicate. The Cabals started to build a military structure and territorial holdings for each of it’s members this rapid build up managed to get the Syndicate connected to various mercenary groups, Pirate Guilds, and Bounty Hunter organizations providing them with more than enough muscle to handle their needs. The Cabals started to use their contacts and connections to begin pirating and slave raid operations along the border of the fringe.
The Syndicate also started to make and distribute addictive drugs to several hundred worlds for sell in various legal and black markets. The Syndicate also had a reputation for selling illegal and dangerous weapons to various groups in exchange for credits or favors to be paid at a latter time. The Syndicate was now an omni present force along the fringes of the Galaxy and they were happy to stay that way.
The Romano Cartel was an organization that the Syndicate had never dealt with before. The Bosses had privately debated on how to deal with the said organization. The majority thought that making an alliance would be the best approach to avoid a turf war in space.
The Syndicate’s activities of slave raiding and piracy had long gotten them a bad reputation among the civilized worlds and the last thing the Syndicate wanted was to fight another organization over petty little squabbles across the cosmos when better deals could be breached by working together in a peaceful and business like manner.
This is what led to the Bosses agreeing to meet the Godfather at his personal Star Destroyer Bari. The Syndicate flagship the Arm was dispatched from her normal duties of guarding the planet Rastoria Prime and began to serve as a personal transport to all the Syndicate Bosses. They approached the specific coordinates followed by a force of ten of Syndicate Raiders to provide an honor guard for the Bosses.
The small task force came cloaked and used their warp drives to silently speed towards the Bari’s location. The Arm upon reaching the coordinates immediately decloaked and started to raise shields. The Syndicate Battleship was run by a very efficient crew that followed procedure to the book. The Arm upon raising her shields began to send a coded message to Bari. The coded message was to prevent it from being intercepted and decoded by possible enemies of the organization.
“This is the Syndicate Battleship The Arm, We have come upon the request of the Godfather to do business.”
The message was short and quick to make it seem the Bosses were not onboard. It was a common procedure to be when dealing with unknown organization…

On the bridge of the Super Star Destroyer Bari, Captain Darco stood at the engineering station. "What now?" he asked the crewman.
"Looks like sublight engines #3 and #8, sir," was the response. "The ion drives failed again."
"Damn. That only leaves us with 4 working ion engines," Darco said. "We need more people if we're to keep this heap running."
"Captain!" came a voice over the bridge speakers.
"Yes?" Darco answered.
The A.I., Vesta, appeared in front of him. "We've got incoming ships," she replied. "11 ships with raised shields. They just decloaked."
"Not another pirate raid," said Darco. "Only 2 of our raiders are here to defend us. Alright," he said while walking over to the front viewport. "Bring the weapons and shields online."
"Wait sir!" yelled Vesta. "I'm getting a coded message. Putting it through now."
“This is the Syndicate Battleship The Arm, We have come upon the request of the Godfather to do business.”
"Do they now," said Darco. "Very well. Cancel those weapons and shield orders. Vesta, contact them and handle the docking please."
"Very well," she replied. "While we're at it, can you get someone to fix the holoemitters in the forward section? If I'm running the ship, I'd like to see it for a change."
"Yes, yes. We'll take care of it," promised Darco. "Get the ships docked. I'll go inform Romano." He then turned and walked out of the bridge...

Captain Darius was seated on his command chair and listened to the message from the A.I. Vesta. “Syndicate Battleship The Arm, this is A.I. Vesta. You are cleared for approach. I have a landing beacon lit to guide your shuttle into our docking bay. Bari standing by.”
The good captain smiled and said, “Lazlo, I want you to set up a shuttle to the Bari. The shuttle is to be occupied by our Bosses so keep a close on eye on the reception party. If they do anything funny like raise shields or weapons we make an immediate maneuver to provide the shuttle cover fire. The goal is to keep the Bosses alive at all costs."
Lazlo replied, “No problem, I doubt these people are going to betray us with this many ships around them with raised shields. We just need to raise our weapons and any conflict should be fairly standard.”
Captain Darius growled and replied, “Listen, if the Bosses get whacked out here. I will hold you accountable to their successors.”
Lazlo nervously gulped and started to punch in the orders for the Shuttle to activate and assign the crews to stations.
The Bosses all entered their shuttled followed by their personal bodyguards. The total amount of people inside the shuttle was ten total. The shuttle immediately launched from the hanger bay and headed towards the Bari.
The Shuttle approached towards the Bari’s docking bay. The approach was leisurely and slow to give the honor guard and the Battleship time to detect signs of treachery…

Bertolli Romano stood in Hanger Bay 4. He was the youngest of the Romano Brothers, and was always givin simple jobs. He was envious of his older brother Antonio's job running the Cartel's main opperations. "Are they coming?" he asked impatiently.
"Shuttle is on approach," Vesta replied. "They're coming in slow."
"Damn, this is taking forever," he replied as he put his hands on his hips.
"It's not like you were doing anything," Vesta commented.
"Whatever. Just let me know when they get here. Antonio and Father are waiting in the Taste of Bari, and Father hates it when his pasta gets cold."

The ship? A pretty nifty looking (If impractical) French lineship, circa 1800, in space. It's quite prettily adorned with assorted lions, tigers, whales and sharks, bare-breasted females with shoulder-long hair, dragons and minotaurs, made from gold and silver, with eyes of rubies and sapphires and diamonds (Admittedly, sometimes mere black diamonds), shimmering in the void whenever photons bothered to bounce off them. In between, paintings, mostly depicting battles and contests between sword-wielding men.
Its name is quite readable, too - it's Fierté d'Orleans.
Subtle differences - French lineships never featured lightsecond-spanning field sails, nor were they trisymmetrically aligned - are quickly brushed aside, as its prettiness is its point, not the degree to which it adheres to the originals.
Right now it's docked, though, and about half its crew of somewhere between six- or seven hundred men (It was difficult to tell, and the captain didn't know for certain) had entered the Bari, largely on a quest to acquire food or to take advantage of sexual services (If available - but it'd indeed be an odd place for a 'Family' asset if it didn't), or to otherwise spend their not inconsiderable fortunes in this presumably enjoyable haven in the middle of nowhere.
After all, it's been months since they last met someone else, and some human contact - with or without the exchange of bodily fluids - in spaces less restricted than on board of their ship is something they crave.
Something Marcel Faucet, artillery officer of the Fierté d'Orleans, and one of the three hundred or so space-modified French-Martians, craves, as he walks the endless corridors of the Bari, looking for a casino, bar, or brothel to waste aforementioned, not inconsiderable fortune in.
Whether he'll find something suitable to his tastes, only the future can tell.

"Barkeep! Another round for everyone!"
Cheers filled the room as the bartender started to pass out fresh drinks. The man who ordered them had just entered the 'Lower Deck', and he marched right up to the bar. His boots thumped on the deck while his leather-covered armor clanked around his body. He slammed his fist hard on the counter. "Bloodwine!" he roared while watching the female dancers parade around. Sadly, none of them were Klingons like himself. "Pah! These females are too delecate! None can withstand the love of a Klingon!"
Clank!
The bartender placed a large mug down. The Klingon turned to grasp it, and in one gulp downed half its contents. "Ah!" he proclaimed. "A drink fit for a warrior! Keep them coming, barkeep!" The bartender, a fat, balding human, rolled his eyes. It was always a long night when Kr'loth the Warrior ordered bloodwine...

Aboard the UKS Adameive
Commander Xiloscient paused before the cabin of the Captain of the Starship Adameive. In thirteen years he had never stepped inside this cabin, though he had worked with Bill Slater more closely than he had worked with any other human being. Slater was a very private man who believed that the Captain must always maintain a distance between himself and the crew. Commander Xiloscient had always respected the Captains beliefs even if he didn’t agree with them. However the Captain had requested him to notify him if they came across anything extraordinary in this backwater sector of space.
The Elf knocked on the cabin door, but didn’t really expect an answer. “Come” The door slide aside. Slater rested his elbows on his desk and his chin in his fist seemingly lost in thought as he gazed at the crystals that covered the desk top. The Elf’s keen eye sight recognized familiar vignettes and landscapes of past missions. He had not known that the Captain had made memory crystals of the worlds his ship had visited.
“ Good Afternoon Commander, what’s up.”
“Captain you asked me to inform you of anything extraordinary.”
” So I did Commander, what have we found.”
“ I believe sir we have found the answer to our need of a base of operations for our newly started side venture.”
“ Oh really, do tell Commander.”
“ Captain a short while ago while traveling though a section of space not usually traveled by fleet ships we found a Super Star Destroyer hiding within an asteroid cluster. It seems to be operating as a City in space with starships & freighters coming and going, instead of as a operational ship of the line.

Lieutenant Kiska was nervous. He had never greeted newcomers before, but the Captain had been insistent. So here he was, looking out the main viewport for Bay 2. Such a wierd ship, he thought, while studing it's curving lines. Until now, all he'd seen are boxy cargo ships. Oh, well. Just as long as I don't get shot, he thought while remembering what happened to the last Lieutenant that got stuck greeting a new ship. Evidently, pirates don't like being called 'bucaneers', as the man discovered.

a small battered ship drops out of cloak. a hail is sent to the Romano Cartel Vessel. visuals show a reather tall figure dressed in a dark robe with a hood. beneath the hood two glowing greenish eyes can be seen. in a strangely hissing voice the person(if indeed it can be called a person) speaks, I have a little buiseness proposition for the cartel. My master is looking to accuire an object that he is willing to Give a great amount to attain.
scans of the ship reveal that it appears to have been badly damaged in a battle with unknown forces. the ship doesn't look as if it will make it very far on its own. lifescans reveal 4 lifesigns aboard though its very hard to determine exactily what three of them are. the scanners are having a hard time decyphering as to if they are human,or dozens of known and unknown species, both intelligent and otherwise. the other lifesign appears to be human or at least the scanners insist it is.

the beat up craft moves closer to the Bari moving toward docking bay 12 at a slow pace. As it moves closer it becomes readily appearant that whoever attacked the craft intended to destroy it. as the ship slowly slides into the docking bay, there is a loud bang. smoke wafts from the engines causing the craft to come crashing down like a ton of lead bars. The whole craft shakes and parts of it fall of in alarming amounts. Finally the craft shudders once and remains silent.
after a few the hatch of the vessel moves aside revealing the occupents. The tall figure looks positively anacronistic. The Robes he is wearing look to have been produced in the middle ages. The other three figures are what draws the attention of anyone looking. wearing torn and dirty robes similer in appearance to the taller figure. From what can be seen of the creatures reveals that they look like they are made up of various species, and none of them to healthy. They make noises similer to a combination hiss and mewl, nothing that could even be called language though the taller figure seems to understand them perfactly. Looking around the taller figure speaks in a voice that makes the skin crawl of anyone unfortunate to overhear."Tthiink youu ffor allowingg usss too bboarrd youurr shhip", hisses the obvious leader. A single, small, freighter-sized ship glides silently though space. It's name, written in silver on the side, was the Star Snake. Inside two Xiscapians sat at the controls. The male's name is Kartosh, the female's Skyler. They send a message to the Bari:
This is the Star Snake, requesting permission to dock.
The two mercs were regulers at the Bari, so they knew they'd be allowed in.
The Xiscapians are humanoid, and, at first glance, look human. This is not the case. Though they resemble humans in nearly every way, they have fox tails and ears, their regular ears are pointed, they have longer and sharper canines then a human has. They also have yellow eyes, many different colors of hair, including green, purple, and blue. They are much faster and more graceful then any human could ever hope to be, and are deadly in hand-to-hand combat. They can also see in the dark. Just as a Terran would call himself or herself human, Xiscapians call themselves Kitsune. Every Xiscapian from the age of adulthood (20) has a katana sword. These are either hand forged by the person’s clan, everyone having a part in it, a forging master, or the Xiscapian themselves. Everyone, from schoolteacher to military grunt to chef carries one of these at all times. The katana’s sheath identifies the Xiscapians clan, social status, and, if in the military, rank. The katana is also used in battle.

back to 70 percent. am i good or what, thought vesta, the ship's a.i. she had just re-calibrated the ion reactors, and was quite pleased with herself. the work had used up 1/3 of her processing power, and now that it was complete, she could devote that power to other uses. maybe use more of it for docking ships, she thought, while monitoring the external sensors. two new ships were approaching, on familier, one unknown. in an instant, vesta activated her communications program...

The small ship landed inside the hanger, and a Void Master stepped out. The ship was missing chunks from the left wing. The pilot himself was bleeding from multiple places. He thrust a box into the hands of a member of the repair crew, along with a bag of credits.
"Look after that." He gasped, "I'll need that when I leave."

He walked over to a nearby door, and headed into a supply closet. "This'll work real nice," he muttered to himself, while placing the box into a tool chest. Antonio Romano stood outside the restaurant, Taste of Bari, and was pacing. Father isn't going to like this, he thought. He had just received a message from their raider, Evernham Charger (http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/nx9100/akyazi2.jpg). It was one of four ships sent on a mission to find supplies to keep the SSD Bari opperational. However, they stumbled into a battle, and lost three ships. Three of our best Raiders, he thought. This is not good. Not good at all... Just then, a steward came out of the restaurant. "Sir," he said. "Your Father has retired to his rooms, sir. He claimed to be tired." Antonio stopped his pacing and looked at the steward. "Now?" he asked. "When we've got the Bosses from the Syndicate coming?" He started pacing again. "Fine. I'll deal with the meeting myself. I do all the work around here anyway..." He started to enter the restaurant, then remembered the steward. "Oh, wait here for the Syndicate Bosses. Bring them to my table when they arrive." "Yes, sir," the steward said with a bow. Antonio nodded, then wandered in to his table. Time for an appetizer, he thought...

Three large Klingons, in full armor, stood up from a corner table and approached Kartosh and Skyler. "Who are you to call out Mr. Romano?" the leader challenged. He started to pull out his d'k'tagh. "Shall I tell the cook to prepare a new meat sauce?" The other two Klingons also reached for their knives, when a new voice stopped then in mid-motion. "Stand down K'tag!" The Klingons stepped aside, allowing a human male to move into view. "Go back to the bar and finish your bloodwine!" he snapped. "But we must protect your family..." K'tag said. "From whom, my business partners? Go back to the lower deck, you stupid targ!" Angered by the insult, K'tag led his men back to their drinks. Antonio waited for a moment, then turned back to the traders. "I apologize about that," he said. "They were hired only 2 weeks ago." He waved a hand at his table, "Please, sit for a moment. I'm waiting for a meeting with the bosses of the Rastorian Syndicate. But I can see you first." He sat down at the table, just as the waited arrived with a basket of fresh garlic bread and a bowl of marinara sauce. "Now, what do you have for me this time?" he asked while dipping a slice of bread in the sauce...

"Yeah, it's hard to find good help these days." said Kartosh simpitheticly, taking some bread for himself. Skyler set the box on the table and opened it. "Right. We've got 3 boxes of Danversian fire gems, 20 sets of Stormtrooper armor, 2 mobile cloaking devices, 10 barrels of Spice, a crate of Tenloss disruptor rifles, 5 pairs of Alversian body armor, a new box of Gilden hides, 4 boxes of Guilda Crystals(used to power ships and weaponry), and the highlight of the storage, a small antimatter bomb. We don't need the Tenloss rifles, due to an over-stock of Type 3 phaser rifles. And you know I don't deal in spice," he said, looking right at Kartosh. "I'll take the Danversian fire gems and Gilden hides for my mother. Her birthday is coming up soon." He finished his slice, then continued. "The mobile cloaks, Alversian body armor, and anti-matter bomb will be perfect for the Spartans," he suddenly looked alarmed. "Uh, I mean, for the Klingons, yes, Klingons. Oh, and I'll take the Guilda Crystals too." He took a sip of his wine. "I can pay 375,000 credits."

With a clank, the boarding ramp settled on the hangar deck. Captain Steven Wallace walked down and turned to study his ship. The Hermanator (http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h52/nx9100/Piratecruiser.jpg) wasn't much, but she was a sturdy ship. He eyed the 'Jolly Roger' flags that his older cousin had painted on for fun, as more men and woman came down the ramp. Turning to face them, he said, "Shore leave for all crew. Jackson, stay with the ship, I'll take care of selling the cargo." He walked through the bay, and out the doors. Following the hallway took him to a turbolift, which he entered. "Hanger 411," he said Suddenly, the image of a woman (http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/6/62/Cortana.jpg) appeared in front of him. "Authorization for Bay 411 please," she said. In the dark hangar, a flicker of purple-blue light flashed over a control panel. A.I. Vesta glanced over the now active controls. "Is he awake?" a voice said from behind her. She turned around and saw Timothy Romano approaching. The grandson of Cartel Leader Nicholas Romano, Timothy was already working his way through the cartel's ranks. Now he was in charge of the Ultra-Secret SPARTAN project. He walked up to Vesta and looked at the readouts. "Well?" Vesta glanced into a corner, as a few lights started to come on, illuminating a single stasis pod. "Coming online now," she replied, as steam began to leak from the pod. "Good," said Timothy, "I've got some new equipment coming in. Need to get them up to speed." "Are you going to send them out on a training mission?" Vesta asked. "I think so," said Romano. "Maybe to a small colony planet. Get some practice on the new vehicles and equipment that Captain Wallace is bringing in." Suddenly, the cover on the stasis pod began to rise. Vesta rechecked the monitors, "He's awake..."

All vitals look good, thought Vesta, He'll be awake soon. She then returned to the ship-wide diagnostic that was running in her background. These were required on a regular basis as the Bari wasn't the best maintained ship. Wait, she paused the diagnostic to check on an anomoly. Hello, where did you come from? She used the sensors to track the anomoly the the docking bay. Sensor scans only showed a small, dark object. Hmmm, she thought, I told them to get better scanners. Oh well. The Drone settled on top of the ship. Nothing could be found out now, but later it may prove useful. Dissapointed, Kartosh and Skyler mad their way to their usual hangout, the Paradise Bay. It was crowded, as the ship's chrono's read 12: 45 AM, local time. The dances hadn't started yet, but everyone was ready. They ordered some meat, potatos (Xiscapians have a strange fondness for any type of potatos), bread, and vodka, all seeming luxerious after weeks of greasy tavern food and packadged Gleep rations. The massive hanger doors began to slide open, revealing the underside hull of teh Bari. "Launch," ordered Romano. The Blackbird surged forward, narrowly missing a cargo freighter, whose crew had no idea that they just avoided a collision. "We are clear and free to navigate." "Good. Set course for CHALLENGER Base. Warp 7," Romano ordered. "I've got work to do..."
