GROB, THRESH - After results of a recent health exam came back positive for HIV, Councilman Wayne J. Johnson of Auric was deported earlier today. Johnson was unavailable for comment, but Auric Governor John M. Larkin condemned the deportation, saying, "Councilman Johnson was an avid humanitarian who has helped our nation in countless endeavors, and his loss will be felt greatly. An ill man does not deserve exile."
In retaliation, Minister of State Coarsen Thresh published this statement, "Although Councilman Johnson was a fine politician, his terminal and highly communicable disease is a threat to the health of our nation. Although we regret the loss of this prominent figure, we have no doubt that our nation will recover."
Emergency elections will be held on Tuesday of next week. In addition to Councilman Johnson's deportation, the Threshian police, with aid from Gopanian troops, rounded up an additional 1200 infected in the past few days. A spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Human Services said, "We estimate that over 92% of afflicted citizens have been dealt with. As expected, our hospital system is functioning better than ever."
It is expected that based on the success of the HIV/AIDS legislation (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=523973), the Council will be writing more laws dealing with the weak and infirm, though plan to expand their arsenal of solutions to quarantine zones and camps. Several critics are curious as to how such zones and camps will ease the government's treasury, and are calling for more deportation in the future.

GROB, THRESH - An angry group of protesters marched up the streets to the Council Hall, where their harsh words and angry signs where met with police force. The protesters, calling for the reinstatement of Councilman Johnson, soon turned violent. Outnumbering the police 10:1, they overran the Council Hall, leaving destruction in their path.
Finally, the Threshian Armed Forces arrived, and quickly dealt with the situation. Thousands of rioters were killed or injured, and countless more arrested and awaiting trial. Minister of Defense Francis B. Billington was "disappointed at the lack of respect shown by these rioters."
There was little permanent damage done to the Council Hall, and the Council is still expected to meet, on schedule, later today to discuss legislature that would quarantine citizens afflicted with other incurable and contagious diseases.

To Premier Duwweg P. Reddox of Thresh,
The Aequatian Republic has been monitoring the situation growing within the nation of Thresh and is once again disgusted in the recent actions undertaken by the Republic's government in its seemingly progressing campaign of "racial hygiene" against it's own citizenry. The idea that you would be discussing such features as quarantine zones and holding camps for those who require the most assistance is irreprehensible, in addition to the murder of those who disagree with the government's decision displays your administration's lack of respect for the very republic and citizenry you are meant to represent.
We feel that is it necessary to warn you of your current actions and must strongly suggest that they are to cease as soon as possible or you and your nation may face the most dire of consequences in due time.
Signed,
President Holden Reid of Aequatio.

Republic of Thresh
Office of the Premier
To President Holden Reid of Aequatio:
While your concerns are noted, I can assure you that those in the camps will be treated in a humane manner, and to the standards of the International Red Cross. Our campaign of 'racial hygeine', as you so eloquently, albeit incorrectly, termed it, is not one of racial cleansing, but a desire for a healthy populace.
Through quarantine, we hope that those afflicted with horrendous diseases will be readily at hand for new treatments and prospective cures.
Also, please note that no such legislation has been passed, and should any legislation of the sort be passed, then it would be my duty as Premier to be sure that the legislation is properly executed.
Signed,
Premier Duwweg P. Reddox

We are shocked at the barbaric behavior of the Threshian Government.
Certainly you are aware that this policy of sending people with terminal disabilities to camps or deporting them is eerily similar to the German Nazis' first mass murders.
We strongly condemn this practice and the clear ignorance of the Threshian Government. The spread of HIV is best prevented by routine use of prophylactics and encouraging testing among high-risk groups, not by incarceration in manner reminiscent of the barbarous Nazi regime, and certainly not by deportation.
Signed,
Rachel C. Levitt,
Minister of Foreign Affairs

Civil rights monitoring groups within Crookfur continue to be very concerned by the ongoing circumstances in Thresh. Of particualr concern is the continued non disclosure of the destiantions of those being deported or exiled, from the current situation soem of the more vocal groups are putting forward that those being deported are not infact leaving the country but simply being "disappeared" and disposed of, msot likely in a fatal manner.
Other groups have also suggested that this scheme is merely an effort by the so called council to dispose of political competitors, after all it would not be too difficult for troublesome individuals to be conveintaly diagnosed with a relevant condition and for them to then be "deported".
At this time the Crookfur foreign office refuses to make any comment on the matter.

Republic of Thresh
Ministry of State
ANNOUCEMENT
While the Republic of Thresh recognizes that its actions may not be popular, they do feel that they are following the best course available. As the Republic of Thresh is still a sovereign state, they wish to make it known that what goes on within their borders is of nobody's concern but their own.
As to the continued questions as to the whereabouts of the individuals deported, the Republic of Thresh has no responsibility for their location. Where the ill individuals go is up to them, however, it is likely that many of the individuals have traveled to the Federated Anarchist Communes of Free Outer Eugenia, where health care is available to them.
In addition, the Republic of Thresh would like to assure questioners that our concern is solely for the health and well-being of these individuals, and as we can not provide sufficient health care for their illnesses, we would like them to seek better health care elsewhere. Should legislation be passed that would quarantine ill individuals, it would be passed only so that they could be easily administered treatment.
Signed,
Minister of State Coarsen J. Thresh

OOC: Nice invocation of Godwin's Law, Kahanistan, I was hoping to avoid something so childish.
IC:
Ebon Tor, Magna Casa, Aequatius Prime
President Reid finished reading both the reply from the Threshian premier and the statement released by their minister of state, "Those arrogant little bastards!" He exclaimed as he crumpled up the pieces of paper and disposed of them in the wastebasket. Holden was normally well-versed in holding his temper, but today was not a good day as he opened his laptop and started on a draft for a response to the premier's message.
----------
To Premier Duwweg P. Reddox of Thresh,
Your current policies may not be in the traditional manner of racial hygiene, but it is sickening nonetheless in its actual application. You are enacting laws to punish those who are inflicted with a life altering disease which can be both effectively treated with anti-retroviral treatments and prevented with proper sexual education at young ages and other measures including contraceptives. The actions you are undertaking do nothing in the means of solving the problem, but only sweeping it away from your responsibility as a proper and effective leader.
There is a much more effective (both economically and practical) and dignified method of having those infected with such diseases "at hand" for when treatments and cures are ready by simply registering said citizens in a central database and alerting them by postage or through a government agency. Such measures of quarantines and holding camps, regardless as to whether or not legislations have been passed on these subjects, the idea that it would even be considered, do little more than degrade the status of these people as human beings and such treatment is intolerable.
It is time that the free nations of the world stood up for the very abuses that are committed by evil nations behind the curtain of sovereignty. Such appeasement only allows for these events to continue and is disrespectful towards the human rights we vow to protect. This is your final warning, premier, cease these disgusting actions at once or you and your cohorts will be brought to justice.
Signed,
President Holden Reid of Aequatio.
