3.0 Vital Information

The Republic of Thresh is a small nation on the outskirts of the regions known as Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Originally a powerful medieval empire, Thresh fell into a decline during the rise of the Roman empire, the Threshian lands shrinking vastly. Thresh reconquered several lost territories in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, these territories forming the states of Auric and Elopia.

Throughout its tremendous history, Thresh has undergone countless governmental shifts, six power struggles and one tyrant. Currently ruled by a conglomeration of several political leaders overseen by a single, elected leader, the Republic of Thresh is seeking to rebuild the Threshian infrastructure after their recently devastating Twelve Year War.

3.1 Climate

Climate within Thresh varies throughout, from the hot desert sands in the south to the cold icy tundra in the north. Elopia experiences both ends of the spectrum, while Auric is blessed with a mostly temperate plainsland. Thresh has little variation, as most of the land is a single city. Temperatures range from -10 C to 40 C on average, with rainfall at a mean of 1272 mm annually.

3.2 Geography

As the climate varies, so does the Geography. Along the northern border runs a mountain range, and along the southeast are the deserts of the Arabian region. The southwest and west, however, are prime agricultural locations, and support much of the livestock and crops grown in Thresh, as well as housing the nations population centers.

3.3 Economy

The economy of Thresh is a powerful, thriving establishment with a substantial private sector and a low income tax. The government wastes little, and while there is unemployment, it is a small amount. The government focuses the bulk of its budget in Law and Order and Defense, with Religion and Commerce tied for the third highest priority. Thresh relies on its neighbors for many products, but also has a thriving export business.

3.4 Culture

Because of the areas that Thresh holds, the culture varies from state to state. In the state known as Thresh, the people enjoy a bustling political lifestyle, everyone is involved in some facet - be it a lowly janitor in the restaurant visited by politicians, or the Premier himself - with the running of the government. Councilmen and, on occasion, women, come from every corner of the land, rotating every two years to take part in the culture that is the Threshian political climate. Thresh's closest neighbor, Auric, has a diverse culture and houses those whose political ideas do not mesh with the current leadership in her great cities. Home to dissenters and rebellion, Auric is the center for agriculture for Thresh, and thus also has a great many farmers. Essentially, Auric is both ends of the political and sexual spectrum in one, beautiful area. Auric is also home to the Megathresh Incorporated HQ, Thresh's largest business that employs 23% of the population. Nearby Elopia is viewed by her more conservative neighbors as a center of sin - Polokgrad has been termed the "Las Vegas of the East" by some magazines, and is home to the nation's thriving legalized prostitution business, as well as Thresh's legalized gambling business. Outside of Polokgrad is mostly wasteland - 74% of the citizens of Elopia live and work in Polokgrad, a beautiful city teeming with neon lights and nightlife - the remainder work in the factories located in Elopia.

Recently, the population experienced a minor downturn as those citizens diagnosed with HIV/AIDS were removed from the populace and exiled. 4.0 Administration

Thresh has a complex and convuluted administrative process. The Council writes the legislature, then sends it to the Premier for approval. If the Premier deems it relevant, then the Council votes on the legislature. If the Council feels the Premier has stifled the legislature for illegitimate reasons, they may vote to ignore the Premier's decision. All voting requires a simple majority, and in cases of a tie, the Premier breaks the tie. The Premier and Council also serve as the federal judicial system, listening to cases of their choosing. These processes are echoed in all levels of the government, with the exception of the state and local judicial systems being run by a judge, with a jury of the defendants peers in criminal and some civil cases.
