OOC: Again, ESS Members only!

IC: Following the trial of the Kazakh bandits and their subsequent admission that the Kazakh gov't aided them in their illegal border crossings, the UR has declared that the Kazakh gov't has to go. Tactical Air strikes are being made on Ural'sk by Su-25's in preparation for the ground invasion. The 12th Motor Rifle Regiment and the 14th Armored Regiment have crossed into Kazakh territory and are moving into Ural'sk. More Russian troops are being moved towards Kazakh borders as we speak, including a Spetsnaz Unit out of Nizhny Novgorod.

Skies over Semipalatinsk
The 40 MiG-31 Foxhounds of the 356th Fighter Aviation Regiment took to the skies, if for no other purpose than to do so before the Russian juggernaut came calling and prevented this in future. Maybe they could bag some bombers or Spetsnaz transports; or fighters maybe, even? Less grimly-speaking, the Foxhounds also flew to cover the assorted Mi-8s/24s/26s all inserting the 14th Air Assault Brigade outside Ural'sk, Kazakhstan; there to reconnoiter the Russian positions (particularly the prison camp), and of course screen against too many attacks before the six divisions inherited from the USSR could mobilize in coming days to repel this trumped-up fascist aggression. The 35th Air Assault Brigade would ideally join the 14th soon after, to either liberate the camp and evacuate the government south or else draw the Russian tanks into an Afghanistan-style nightmare of RPG and ATGM ambushes in the Kazakh mountains and valleys.
To support this bold insertion in the face of an ostensibly-overwhelming enemy, Kazakh Su-25s took off inbound to wreck upon the two invading regiments' front lines; while Su-24 Fencers streaked after their rear, all these assaults covered by the few Su-27 Flankers available while MiG-29s mostly handled frontline air-superiority patrols. All aircraft aloft (some 80% of total available, plus 100% of the MiG-31 interceptors and MiG-29 battlefield fighters) were fully armed for their missions and with orders to fire for full effect upon contact with the enemy. And as the days passed, the reservists would either volunteer or be press-ganged in by droves; the resistance only beginning then...

Even though Ural'sk put up little resistance, the Russian COmmand knew that this could change fast. The Kazakhs weren't just going to give up their country without a fight. The Russian Armored Regiment was told to ready to defend Ural'sk, including arming their Triple-A and SAM batteries. A flight of 25 Su-37's and 10 MiG-35 Flucrum-E fighters have been placed on air patrol duties over Ural'sk for the time bieng. Spy sattelites are being diverted at this time over Kazakhstan to cover the forces movement as well as the enemie's.

Russian Command was pleased with their plan. Their would be no Afghanistan in Kazakhstan. Tanks are much safer due to the wide open flat plains of the Kazakh countryside. There would be no ambushes outside of cities. And hopefully, their next move would jopefully bring those corrupt Kazakh bastards to their knees. Two Tu-160 Bombers lifted off from their base in Kirov. They flew over to the border and released their payload of twelve Conventionally Armed Kh-55 Long Range Cruise Missiles. The Targeting solutions were set to hit Gov't and Military targets in Astana. Republic Square was targeted, as well as several other important sites.

Although not on patrol in time to prevent the airlift of 14th Air Assault Brigade, the Russian MiGs and increased air defenses downed 1 Mi-26 Halo, 4 Mi-8 Hips and fully 5 Mi-24 Hinds. From now on, it was "hoofing it" time for the troopers, or rolling in this case in their light BMD APCs. They moved out to form a perimeter around the internment camp and record as much incriminating recon data as possible before attempting an assault. For now, 35th AAB was being held in reserve since airlift was becoming scarcer...
The Foxhounds had more luck though, being able to descend upon the missiles and down them with some eighty R-33 Amos missiles even if it was extreme overkill. However, two of the twelve missiles were downed close enough to Astana that one caused a major pileup and fire on a main bridge in town even if the warhead was too damaged to detonate properly, and the other managed to divert into a most-unfortunate T-72MK command tank and take out the rest of its platoon in the blast. Mobilization of all nearby motor-rifle divisions and armored brigades was underway as fast as possible, but not proceeding anywhere near as efficiently as in the Soviet days. The men knew what was going on and what their odds were, despite the public exhortations to "Victory in the name of God, Struggle and Glorious Kazakhstan." Morale was characterized by nothing so much as simple fatalism, even if this was enough to set the columns rolling north with what defenses Kazakhstan's still-operational air force could provide beside the Army's own units for that purpose.
After returning to base to rearm/refuel, the Foxhounds were to set up five flights of four in racetrack BARCAPs around Astana to deal with future raids, each remaining aloft some few hours before the next four could be sent up. Ditto for the Fulcrums and Flankers at the front, already closing to avenge two each of their own lost to Russian patrols. Despite what the fascists' propaganda organs were doubtless spouting even now, enough resistance was being put up for the government in Astana to proceed with its planned evacuation south to the old capital Almaty; if not further still...

The UR 2nd Armored Division and two Light Infantry regiments began their push into Qostany and other small North Kazakh towns. The 10th Shock Troops were put on alert for possible use once the assault hit the mountains. Meanwhile, the 45th Guards Infantry Regiment began to push to the south with the Armor towards the town of Aqsay. An attack flight of five Su-25's and Six Su-47's flew recon over the city and bombed a Police Station, Railway terminal, and small airstrip to damage the infrastructure in preparation for the assault.

Official Kazakh Government Response to Animarnia
Praise be! We are not deserted in our struggle against the infidel fascists. At present, our ideal location would be in our country's extreme southeast, around our former capital of Almaty and near the Chinese border. If the entire city can be turned into a safe zone, that would be best; so we may evacuate the government and as many civilians as possible against Astana's inevitable fall once the Russian juggernaut comes into play. With luck, all may not be lost at least; and our army yet battles to ensure this, six divisions or the equivalent thereof advancing towards Ural'sk which is already under reconnaissance, and also Qostany where our bulk moves to catch the fascists on the march and hurl them back. Rest assured, your fine peacekeepers will have time to emplace, and in so doing thwart this naked aggression against our country by Russia.

Understood entirely, although given the character of our enemy we adivse you prepare strenuously for that eventuality. Already the local government and some citizens of Ural'sk have been interned by the Russians, in conditions our local forces describe as most atrocious; and we suspect this is only to be the beginning of what will be done by the Russians in the near future of this mad adventurist campaign.
The government should be moving towards you by the time your forces are emplaced, escorted by whatever of the strategic reserve can be spared; at least a mechanized brigade of our own. Our thanks again for this assistance, even if passive.

Some 6km from Ural'sk Detention Camp
Colonel Anarsultan Nursultanovich Idzarbayev of the 14th Air Assault Brigade stood up in his BTR-D airborne personnel carrier and decided. This is it. If we are to disrupt the horrors here, the invasion, ALL of it; it must be done now if we're to make a prick at all. He then silently prayed to God as he entered the vehicle and issued his orders professionally. "Artillery Battalion," consisting of an assorted 18 2S9 120mm SP gun-mortars and 6 RPU-14 140mm towed MRLs, "Fire! Suppress the camp defenses without mercy; Ural'sk is wrecked already by the enemy's hand, so no holding back!" The guns and rocket launchers echoed behind as the Colonel issued still further orders.
"All battalions, move out! Light Battalions Third, Fourth and Fifth, advance into Ural'sk; Third slowly up the center as both reserve and ambush bait for the enemy armored regiment, Fourth and Fifth around to the Eastern flank to get in the enemy rear and disperse their motor-rifle regiment guarding the camp. Tracked Battalions," referring to those Airborne troops in the brigade lucky enough to have a BMD or such to fight from, "First and Second, all on the eastern flank to spearhead Fourth and Fifth Battalion's flanking maneuver against the camp under cover of artillery fire. That is all. In our own names, as Kazakhs and soldiers, forward." And so, some 2,600 incensed Kazakh soldiers and 80 of their vehicles started creeping into the Russian-occcupied town; determined to show Ivan just what sort of surprises supposedly "defeated" peoples could spring...

Gilgit Airbase

"Move your arse soldier!" the commander, yelled; "I've seen grannies move faster than you" he added the soldiers hurrying and loading equipment and supplies into the huge Antov 24 transport aircraft and Il 76 Candids everything was loaded from fencing to heavy machineguns, crates and creates of ammunition including Anti-Tank mines. Others would be packed with Soldiers and T-90S Tanks for the long flight to Almaty. What wasn't publicised however was that joining them would be a squad of 12 ASAS would be joining them; the ASAS excelled in covert warfare if this went tits up the ASAS could operate in Kazakhstan covertly. It would take roughly 24 hours for everything to be loaded and for them to take off from Gilgit; they would hopefully land 3 to 4 hours after that in Kazakhstan and have something set up in 48 hours total at Almaty.

One thing was for sure; this was going to get tense.

Ural'sk, Kazakhstan

"Take Cover!" yelled a URM Colonel to his troops. The barrage rained down on the city, destroying many buildings and even dropping a few inside the internment camp. Vehicles were hit, but during the fortification of the town many of them had been moved between the taller buildings which somewhat protected them from the barrage. "I need air support, ASAP!"

"Roger, that, Colonel. Air patrol is inbound." The MiG-35's from before, fitted with two FFAR pods and four UGB's each jetted towards the Kazakh assault. Coming in low to the ground the pulled up at the last second then flipped back over and began the assault. They fired away all of their FFARs and jettisoned their bombs on top of the attackers. After the main pass, they had to RTB. On their way back to base, the emptied their GshK 30mm Cannons over the Kazakh in an attempt to inflict more damage.

The Kazakh MiG-29s and Su-27s nearby began to pounce on the later-model jets, trusting to the latter's overconfidence in attacking with all-ground-attack loadouts to provide a massacre and easy bragging rights. What damage had been done was done, but some vengeance was always appreciable at least. Esepecially before munitions and spare-parts began to grow critically short as they would before too long...
As for the Kazakh column, some hundreds of dead men and 21 burning vehicles testified to the effectiveness of the Russian air support; but it didn't stop the attack. Those injured, simply fought where they were until death. And those not, pressed on. Some were rattled by the knowledge that the camp had been hit by their own barrage, but Colonel Idzarbayev's exhortations made them press on anyway. "Know for certain, comrades, that the death we gave them was a mercy; that their end, that of glorious Martyrdom for our Nation! All who are not cowards deserving of being handed to the fascists like fellow swine, FORWARD I SAY!"
Idzarbayev's BTR-D had been immobilized by shrapnel, so his HQ company was now just guarding the back door of the flanking elements racing towards the camp while the light elements on all points of attack simply crept forward to one antitank ambush-point to the next. Where vehicles had been moved between the taller buildings, the Kazakh squads didn't hesitate to hole up above and fire RPG-29s out at those Russian tanks foolish enough to think themselves safe. If for no other purpose, at least to distract such firepower away from the pitifully vulnerable BMDs trundling towards the camp...

Three of the MiGs were shot down whil the other two escaped damaged thanks to some luck and their countermeasures. The CO in Ural'sk declared that the Kazakh menace would not gain an inch of their land back and ordered all troops te repel fire. The Guards infantry regiment there began gunning down the Kazakhs running down the street from their rooftop and indoor positions while barricades made during the fortification limited the Kazakhs to only a few streets to attack on. Meanwhile, at the camp, the remaining force of NKVD guards began to stage a valiant defense with their emplaced machine guns and RPG-29s and RPG-22s. More air support was requested, and soon, at Kirov, a flight of Su-37's and MiG-35s took off. The MiGs were still loaded with ATG Arms, but the Sukhois were fully loaded for Air to Air combat.

Official Statement by the Western European Federation

Our alliance of nations is one for peace and prosperity, and we will not take sides or make judgement on the issue on the 'Cleansing of Kazakhstan' until we are fully aware of the circumstances. Are you using forces against a terrorist government? This question is both directed to the Union of the Russia, and the government of Kazakhstan – to see if they view themselves as a terror government. We are currently leaning towards Animarnia stance on the conflict.

We wish for the citizens of this nation to be safe however, and it's fragile economy to remain intact after the fighting is over. Therefore peacekeeping troops and aid is being considered, whatever side we take if we wish to not remain neutral. We, like the NAR, will offer transport to refugees affected by the situation to enter camps.

OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT STATEMENT

The Federative Republic of Brasil condemns this operation against the Republic of Kazakhstan as nothing more than an imperialistic landgrab by the Union of the Russias. The Republic requires much more than the testimony of career criminals facing the death penalty to be convinced that the government of Kazakhstan had anything to do with these bandits as Russia accuses them of, and even if they did, we still condemn Russia's eagerness to declare war, instead of considering diplomatic solutions to the problem.

Official Kazakh Acceptance of Truce
We accept this agreement fully and without complaint; indeed, with great jubilation, since it means that whatever happens the enemy shall not have their way entirely in this matter. So long as the officials and civilians interned at Ural'sk and elsewhere are released, and our 14th Air Assault Brigade fighting in the town for their freedom at great cost to itself is allowed to escort them either home or wherever else the UR may find appropriate, there are no obstacles to this agreement and we may begin restricting our forces to defensive and monitoring operations.

Skies over Kazakhstan
Not that the Kazakh government had much choice in the matter. The OPTEMPO of late had been simply too much to sustain, and since the 40 Foxhound interceptors and six-odd mechanized formations in the Army took priority the frontal fighters had to RTB after losing some two MiG-29s and two more Su-27s in a parting missile exchange before leaving. Readiness would soon be half of what it was at the war's start, due to attrition and (above all) sheer gluttonous consumption of fuel and munitions. Word of the ceasefire was broadcast to all Kazakh forces, and offensive moves stopped where they were, deployed aircraft returning to base and ground forces taking up cautious observation posts; hopefully as the Russians' would do on their part as well...

The soldiers exchanged gunfire with the Kazakhs for hours on end. Then, something changed. An Mi-24 Hind was heard over the city broadcasting a message.

Attention. Attention. All URA forces, cease fire. I repeat, cease fire. This is a direct order from High Command. Any violators will be Court-Martialled.

Similar messages were being made to the Kazakh troops, and within minutes, the fighters on both sides began to rise out of the trenches. Some soldiers complained, but were silenced by their CO's with threats of court-martial. The movement of the 1st and 2nd Field Armies had been cancelled. Destroyed vehicles were loaded on the backs of incoming GAZ trucks and shipped back to the yards in Kirov for salvage. The ceasefire had come.

Official Statement by the Western European Federation

We are glad to see the war over before it got far worse. As per request from Animarnia, we are prepared to offer international assistance in the following areas:

1) We will provide people, and possibly a small peacekeeping force to help monitor and reconstruction, to help oversee the elections and prevent them from turning corrupt,
2) We will send in aid via the form of food, medical supplies and medical workers in order to help the injured and affected civilians, and we will also create refugee camps for them that will be kept to a high, clean, standard,
3) We pledge £2.5 billion - this may increase or decrease if we are informed of the costs of damage.

If Kazakhstan needs any further help please contact us. We applaud the Union of the Russias for it's quick ceasefire and hopeful withdrawal.
