Gataway is a nation that has a very diverse landscape with high heavily forested mountains dominating the western part of the country plains and areas of gently rolling hills are found in the central portion of the country and and swamps lie along the southeast bordering the sea and are criss crossed by several rivers and river deltas. The northeastern coast has low coastal plains with pristine beaches..The recently annexed lands of Ruckinia hold many lush forests and fertile plains

The overall climate is a temperate one with mild winters and summers..The north western mountains experiance the coldest harshest winters while the central plains are the warmest area during the summer.

Natural Hazards
In the mountainous northern and western regions avalanches and snow storms are common during the winter months in the central and southern plains an occasional thunderstorm and possible tornado although tornados are a rareity and along the east coast hurricains and the threat of tidal waves are a possiblity although the coastline is somewhat protected by several small island chains

History of Gataway

The begininng-a background
The peoples of Gataway can trace their history back to ancient times. Orignally the lands which now make up the empire were made up several different tribes, the Bulars, Versons, Osaes, Asgradians (would become Gatawans), and Lerisons.

The Bulars who occupied the eastern coast were mostly a seafaring people who relied on fishing, trade, and piracy to sustain themselves. They were renowned for their shipbuilding and excellence in sea warfare

The Versons occupied the south eastern territories and they too relied on seafaring as a staple part of their lives but the lands of the southeast were far more fertile and as sugh the Versons were also developed agriculturaly They were renowned for their development of agricultural tools and new farming techniques

The Oseas occupied the north western mountainous areas and were a group of hunter gathers and a semi-nomadic people whos only period of agricultural development would arise during the summers when they would plant temporary crops in the valleys..the Oseas were renowned for their archery skills and their development of intricate golden jewlery

The Asgradians who occupied the western portion of the central plains were a another agricultural group and were amongst the first of the major tribes to settle down and establish permante settlements..because of this they were able to develop in other areas. The Asgradians were particularly renowned for their skills in metal working.The region the Asgradians settles in was called Gateywey for the Gateywey which was the revolutionary javelin the Asgradians used for hunting and in combat.

The Lerisons occupied the eastern plains and were the largest rival to the Asgradians.The Lerisons were also able to settle down and had a large base for agriculture. The Lerisons were renowned for their horsemanship and were a very aggressive peoples.



The Begininng-Early conflicts

The first major conflict to occur between the tribes of the Empire was between the Asgradians and Bulars..After the daughter of reining King Nalor of the Asgradians was killed following a border raid by the Bulars all out war erupted between the two peoples..Seven years of bloody warfare went on between the two tribes..during which Nalor himself took ill during one campaign and died on the march...His son Zypha took his place and vowed to avenge his sister's death and to carry on his father's wishes..eight more years would pass before the conflict was finally subdued, when at the battle of Versa King Gero of the Bulars and his two sons Cusar and Mawa were killed bringing about the surrender of the Bulars to the Asgradians....

King Zypha however was ruthless and continued his campaign against the Bulars, who with no leader and their armies broken were easily defeated..Zypha did not end his campaign until he had marched nearly five-thousand miles to the coast and to the town of Kafita Capital of the Bulars...Zypha finally proclaimed victory and outright annexed all of the Bulars' lands...Shortly thereafter Zypha too took ill and died having carried out his promises of vengance..

Zypha was succeeded by his cousin Jusov who took the throne and instead of imposing harsh punishments upon the Bulars, Jusov went about passing a series of reforms that allowed for their assimilation into Asgradian culture including taking a Bular wife after his own passed away during child birth..Jusov led the Asgradians through a period of great prosperity and with the Bular's knowledge of seafaring and shipbuilding the Asgradians now had access to riches from other lands as well as a new strong navy, the assimilation of the Bulars and annexation of their lands had also doubled the size of the Asgradian kingdom and more than tripled the population.

The empire follows the free trade and capitalist system..the empire while over all would be considered anti-green does preserve much of its natural resources in order to ensure they're continued availability the empire accomplishes this by a system of replacing eg...forestries must replant after they are done clearing and by setting limits on how much of certain resources can be taken

Society & Culture

The people of Gataway live in a very structured closed society although more recent reforms have allowed a bit more freedom to the people. Within Gatawan society every person has the ability to move up to the next "class" for example a factory worker could get further education and eventually work their way up to a better paying more desirable job. That of course exemplifies a cornerstone of Gatawan society the value of education, which is mandatory up till a person has completed 1 year of college level learning or finished an entire training program at a trade school. Another value highly prized in Gatawan society is discipline this is probably due in part to the compulsory military service that both men and women serve through. Which also ties into another value that being equality..Gatawans by large are nondiscriminatory against age,sex, or race. Another value Gatawan society praises is that of hard work which by and large most citizens do..they almost have to due to the fact that government social aid is at a minimum unless it is in regards to education.

While the government imposes a closed society on the people to the outside world within Gatawan people are very open and straight forward..if you have a bad haircut they'll let you know about it...and people in general aren't afraid to discuss personal matters and people are not allowed to talk critically of the government although you have to be careful what you say and open mass protests are strictly prohibited.

Under the reign of the new Emperor Sinakus I Gatawan people are allowed greater contact with the outside world and the government encourages businesses to deal with foreign markets this has lead to a dramatic surge in the economy..however the government still keeps a keen eye on the citizens and businesses...protests against the government are still illegal..however more local and regional positions are now appointed through democratic elections...although regional and local positions still have very limited power.

Foreign Affairs

The empire has a long standing stance of projecting its view internationally and therefore has an interventionalist policy although this does not translate into military intervention as Gataway premotes a diplomacy first doctrine

The empire takes a firm stance on other systems of government and views communism and rouge states with a negative bias while being supportive of other Imperialist governments and capitalists, the empire is also supportive of monarchial rule and takes a neutral stance towards democracies and republics

The empire while willingly giving aid to under developed countries usually does so only if the empire can benefit from the transaction in some way..when this is not the case the empire monitors those nations it aids closely to ensure that the empire's resources are not being put to misuse or a cause other than that which the donations were intended

Economic System-Capitalist-with some governmental involvement..strictly the royal house itself..the Imperial Council has no ties with business

Gatawan Arms Industries-Government run military arms manufacturing/technology development

Azura Construction inc-Azura is the leading construction/engineering company within the empire constructing many of the first factories in Gataway as well as building all of the Imperial palaces

Corlon chemicals-sole manufacturer of all of the chemical and bio-logical weapons for the Gatawan military also leading producer of synthetic fuels..thanks to Corlon the empire is completely energy self sufficient and does not rely on oil for power furthermore the Corlon synthetic oil is cleaner for the enviorment

Vega shipyards-Vega shipyards are the leading producer of all Gatawan ships including those used in the Imperial Navy

Hira aerospace-Leading producer of all Gatawan commercial and Military aircraft

Ladwa mining inc-leading supplier of all metals used by the empire

Emperor-

While the main imperial palace is in Gatawa the emperor also has a summer and winter palace the Summer palace located in Linsograd and the winter palace in Nadovia

The emperor is a hereditary position the son of the emperor usually inherits the title from his father however in instances where there is more than one possible heir the emperor chooses one to take on his role and the others become provincial leaders or are given a high ranking military position.

Imperial Council

The imperial council consists of elected members who serve 8 year terms..the council serves as advisers to the emperor as well as drafting up laws and proposals which they then pass on to the emperor for approval the Imperial Council Adjutant General is the head of the Imperial council and should the emperor have no heirs the Imperial Council Adjutant General is next in line for succession

Judicial Branch

The Judicial system of Gataway is broken down into several different courts listed here in order of authority from greatest to lowest. Judges on the Imperial court are appointed by the emperor all other court judges are elected by the people within their respective areas of jurisdiction and there is one judge per province.


Supreme Imperial Court-
Handles matters dealing with companies big business, handles cases concerning government officials, Handles cases appealed through the lower courts

Imperial Court of Appeals
Reviews cases for approval before they are seen by the Supreme Imperial court

Provincial Courts
Deals with provincial matters, provincial government officials unless appealing them to the Imperial court

County Courts
Deals with specific cases within the presiding county

Military

Military Service in Gataway and her colony states is compulsory beginning at age 16 for males and females and all terms of service last 4 years conscripts are givien the choice of which branch they choose to serve in although the goverment has set stritc levels to ensure that no one branch goes neglected and when all other branch levels have been met all conscripts go straight into the ground forces branches. During the 4 yrs mandatory service all time is not spent on active duty as conscripts go through periodic cycles of active duty time lasting 6 months each before moving back to a Reservist status where they are allowed to continue a normal civilian life and are only required to take two weeks of Training exercises a month. The oldest enlistment age is 45 and following the mandatory 4 year service terms enlistment is voluntary, however during times of crisis any civilian between the ages of 16-25 may be called up for service and all citizens take mandatory training for firearms and explosives as well as training for use of gurellia and insurgent tactics

Gataway's Military has the following Branches the emperor himself is the Supreme commander of all the armed forces..the officers in charge have been appointed by the emperor

Purpose- The IGA acts as Gataway's ground forces

Purpose- The GADF acts as Gataway's air and space defense force as well as being incharge of Gataway's strategic missle development program in coordiation with GAI(see below)

Purpose- The GPC acts as the coast guard of Gataway and is a branch of the navy

The army of Gataway utilizes the most modern technologies avaliable and is a very well equipped force despite being small in manpower comparison to many other modern class nations it relies on its superior training tactics and equpiment to win battles the military is broken down into vojska grupa (army groups) and then subdivided into Razdors ( Divisions) Vojska Grupa are then combined into Armádní sbor (Army corps) which are used primarily during large scale conflicts

divisions and their purposes
Types of Razdors are as follows

infanterija- Basic Infantry divisons equipped with the latest Infantry equipment as well as the land warrior system allowing for easy communication and tactical information to be shared up and down the chain of command and with members of other units in the field allowing for quick real time information to be shared during battle as well as intergrating the solider with his weapon allowing for the weapon its self to compensate for breathing and movement thus giving the basic Gatawan infantry man a level of accuracy never seen before also all Gatawan Infantry are trained and equipped in the use of Night vision and are equipped with the latest in bio and chem attack defense equipment

mehanizirati infanterija-Mechanized Infantry equipped with fast mobile and well armed gujin (viper) fighting vehicles armed with 7.62 mm and 50 cal machine guns mounted on M151 Protector platforms as well as an internal 120mm mortar and TOW missle platform, capable of carrying 10 Infanterija or combat engenieers all Gujin fighting vehicles are equipped with Thermal and Night vision systems as well as air filtration systems to protect against bio and chemical attacks

oklop-Armored divisions comprising of Phenoix main battle tanks and supporting zmja (dragon) medium tanks along with Titan super heavy tanks

glavni stan- Mobile HQ units that handel all administrative functions for the vojska Grupa and Razdors as well as providing the moblie medical facilities to deal with casualties


Zrak Infanterija- Paratroopers armed with light equipment they are used to drop behind enemy lines and secure specfic ares or destroy specific targets They are highly trained and motivated, being able to make conventional 1,200 foot jumps and HALO 10,000 foot jumps with openings at 400-500 feet.

Zrak kalvarija- Air calvary divisions used to attack enemy positions quickly and move troops quickly or rescue cut off units they are usally more lightly equipped than other fighting divisions but are highly trained and are often supported by other more heavily equipped divisions

Morski razdioba- Gataway's Marine divisons basic infantry except trained in making amphibious assaults they are well equipped like basic infantry divisions and are trained in Night time operations as well after a succesfull sea invasion they can serve as regular Infantry forces

zrak kalvarija podrška- Air Calvary support units mostly attack helicopters and a few ground support air craft also consist of artillery spotting air craft and survallience here air craft

Had Jemzi-"most Loyal ones" The best of the best highly trained unflinching bravery and discipline acting as body guards to Gatawan officals they are also the elite units of Gataway's military and are very heavily armed with fast infantry support attack vehicles and an assortment of heavy machine guns and mortars as well as anti-tank weapon platforms non divisional units of the Had Jemzi carry out special operations counter-terror etc etc

Straz- mountain division basic infantry divison especially trained and equipped to fight in mountainous terrian also serves as border guard units

Indramu Vathe-Upon noticing that the Had Jemzi military units were becoming overstretched in their duties Emperor Sinakus set about establishing the Indramu Vathe..or Black Cross' Guard whom unlike the Had Jemzi who swear allegiance to the entire Imperial Kingdom

the Indramu Vathe swear loyalty solely to the Emperor himself..they are taking over the protection of Imperial Officials...and will share in the formation of regular army divisions although they will be directly under Emperor Sinakus...the Indramu Vathe will also work with the GSSF and work with rounding up enemies of the state...and assist the GSSF in maintaining certain imperial prisons..and work camps

Indramu Vathe members will consist of 100% pure Gatawan citizenry...and youth training programs will educate Indramu Vathe inductees in the fine arts.. higher education as well as military and physical training from field exercises to tactical and strategic training...including the use of armored divisions

The Indramu Vathe will also have several specially designated Air Sqaudrons and several armored corps...outnumbering the standing army 2:1

The minimum age for acceptance into the Indramu Vathe is 3 years of age for both Males and Females of pure Gatawan decent...

In effect the creation of the Indramu Vathe gives the Emperor two armies..one loyal to the nation and one loyal to him..should the first one waver in loyalty the Indramu Vathe will be the Emperor's counter balance..

Navy Background
The Gatawan Navy is the newest addition to the Gatawan military because Gatawan's original borders made it a land locked country,however following the conquest and assimilation of Silvasnia and Asgradia the need for a naval force became necessary alothough Gatawan's fleet is not a major high seas fleet it does a more than able job of defending Gatwan's territorial waters

The Gatawan air force has currently undergoong a major over haul in structure and in equipment in order to match modern nations

Imperial Internal Security Forces


The Imperial Internal or State security forces utalize the same equipment that the army,navy,air force use they are skilled in spec ops and anti-terrorist missions as well as serving as a secret police to root out seeds of treason within the empire.

The Had-Jemzi are the elite SS like divisions of the army and complement the GSS forces with spec ops training in fact many Had-Jemzi soldiers are former GSS commandos who have receivied training for fighting as an entire division along side regular army troops.

The Gatawan peoples militia acts as the border guard and military civil patrols who report back to GSS forces and work in cooridnation with them

The Indramu Vathe now serve as personal body guards to the emperor, they answer to no field commander or general only to appointed Indramu Vathe officers or the emperor himself...the Indramu Vathe serve as the Emperors private army...should the regulars decide to revolt although it is common for Indramu Vathe forces to deploy alongside regular military forces.

The empire currently holds a seat on the High council of the Mediterrianican Union and is a member of the League of Allied Royal Countries

The empire views the UN as an oppressive body that limits countries growth and one that takes away from the soverignty of nations

Infinite Empire of Yallak-strong allies even serving as dual kingdoms at times (when i leave Yallak runs my nation for me)

The empire generally takes an unfriendly stance towards communist nations or nations controlled by terrorist organizations the following nations are officially listed as hostile by the empire even though a state of war does not currently exisit between them and the empire

So hows it look so far?

I don't know much about the whole fact book deal, but this is impressive. A lot of detail and a good picture of how Gataway works. Nicely done.

Quality factbook. I look forward to reading it when it it finished.

thanks for the vote of approval I am preparing to begin work on the history portion which will require the most work going from ancient to modern times will require a bit of work to say the least...the rest is nearly complete
