Can the Island States be Resolved of their Conflict?

“We are guarded from further acts of violence as a result of third party groups attributed to their nationalism. It’s my hope that like our neighbor we will, all of us in this chain will rise up and become independent, or united under one banner of friendship.”
Thoes were the optimistic words of Duchess Shino Nanao to her people regarding their newly formed protection status with the Republic of Kanami. However it seems the ideas have been lost in war and politics. The beaches, soaked with the blood of many men women and children who attempted to fight off the invading forces of the Empire of Stevid, the Doctorial State of RedTide 2 and the United States of Independent Hitmen, but failed. With Shino gone the remaining leaders took it upon themselves to form a constitution to unite their island states and declare their independence from what they have determined as quote unquote, “imperialist states.” But the issues of whom the states belong to is rooted in the past and still has many conflicts. Kanami says the protection was temporary and they are ready to release the state jurisdiction and recognize them as independent. HotDogs2 still claims the islands belong to no person and were rightfully claimed by all states. Stevid and I.H. are preparing to release when all negotiations are closed, RedTide2 still holds it’s jurisdiction over Corona but will likely release it.
Just how this began really dates back to Prime Minister Romney’s first few months in office as Prime Minister, and her desires to merge the gap with Stevid. However before the Hanover War and long before the discovery of the North Hanover Dependency Chain belonging to Stevid, Romney was introduced to Shino whom had washed up on Kanami shores. Shino very bluntly asked Kanami to please become a protector to their small states. Shino went into great detail about the violence that had erupted in the past in their neighbor Stilleståndö (Other wise known as Truce Island) and how she feared that the same violence could erupt on their own island. While Aurora didn’t have a history of communist occupation it was small enough to be easily dominated as well as their neighbors. Kanami always being the sympathetic country agreed and both agreed upon a joint-protection status. However when the islands of Hanover were discovered, Romney began to fear with the frosty history between them Stevid would set its eyes on these tiny islands or otherwise inadvertently trigger an insurgency to erupt. In the interest of protecting these people Romney felt justified in taking the North Hanover Islands from Stevid, after they refused to adhere to any restricted zones. In an address to Parliament Romney said “With the lack of restrictions Stevid can march anywhere they well please. That includes our air space, our allies waters, the islands we said we would protect. We can not allow for this to go on we must take action.” Kanami quickly moved in on Hanover and successfully took it. However intervention from the Global Defense Initive and the treaty that made no provisions to ensure the protection of the southern islands. Romney argued time and time again to ensure these islands would be protected from the hands of Stevid, even getting over a thousand people to testify to the violence. But as such all nations brushed this off as nothing and the treaty went forth. Romney had felt she made a mistake by signing it but it was an uphill battle that would probably result back to war. As the war ended Romney kept a sharp eye on the Southern Islands to ensure Stevid would not trespass. But pretty soon a glimmer of hope, Stilleståndö announced to the Kanami Government it was moving towards independence and statehood. Kanami passed the word onto Shino and prepared to scratch Stilleståndö of the list of Protected States. However the increased occupation near the islands began to make Shino and others very nervous. Everyone was fearing the increased presence would lead to a bloody aggression. Kanami made efforts to diffuse the situation unfortunately when Stevid decided to wait outside Stilleståndö waters communist rebels anxious to resume the ethnic cleansing rashly believed their comrades had returned. As a result the king was murdered and several people lay dead or dying, Kanami sent in choppers to stop the insurgency from continuing. Kanami continued showing disapproval by severing all ties of communication to all, then resulting in an invasion for supposedly to “quail further acts of violence” though the Kanami Government insists it was out of political spite to get them to talk again. Kanami refused to cave into their demands and attempted to fight them off but failed. In the meantime the occupation and invasion was continuing of each island. serious violations of international humanitarian law were being committed by RedTide2 and Stevid’s Unknown group known only as the Knights Templar. Things only seemed to be going from bad to worse as Kanami desperately tried to rally International Support and hold all nations accountable for their crimes. Eventually it led to a call to resolution but the battle of words still rages on.
As of now The Islands of Aurora, Hoshino, Stilleståndö, Corona and Animalpolis continue to insist on their independence with or with out anyone’s permission. AHSCA along with Kanami now refuse to recognize them as being occupied although the peace conference winds on, it the fate of these small islands isn’t known. It is undoubted their outlook on the international community is very much tarnished and seen with great distrust. Animalpolis leader said, “It seems everyone and anyone is somehow allied with the so called defense alliance. Several alliances have turned us down, several states have refused to recognize us all because of their ties to this alliance.” With Shino still in the hands of her captors moral is low for the young duchess’ country. People are still on the ready to fight although many feel they can not win. As to why the world ignores, is still a mystery. Romney continues to work around the clock to ensure the stable outcome of this situation.
As for the islands can they unite if the outcome is positive? The leaders are optimistic critics are skeptical, non the less a unite will be a well deserved end to a long bloody history.
