This is an alternate timeline rp set during WWII, sign-up if interested.
Europe, 1930's is a continent in strife. Economic hardships coupled with the ever growing Fascist movement. Italy succumbed years earlier to Mussolini. Franco with the assistance of Germany and Italy gains control over Spain in a brutal civil war. Germany under Hitler is already rebuilding its' armed forces, readying to make Germany a great power again. The political climate throughout Europe is tense, economic woes furtehr hamper the continent and its' people. Brutal regimes, suppressing all opposition through violence or the threa of violence. The Republic of Kulikovia, reformed after the treaty of Versailles, independence gained after hundreds of years of Russian dominance is also suffering. In 1936, the democratic government was overthrown by a man named Viktor Botha, a Field Marshall in the Kulikovian army. The coup was swift and effective, elements loyal to the democratic government of President Elienko were quickly arrested and in some instances, executed. Elienko, his family, as well as other members of the cabinet. The military was divided down the middle, with many of the marshalls and commandants being pro-Botha. Bothist forces quickly captured Jonensberg, the capital. Botha declared himself President of the National Republic of Kulikovia.
He began to mirror Hitler's programs for improving Kulikovia and the economy stabalized and the citizens, at first oppossed him but slowly began to fall under his ruse. He claimed that "Strength through Strength will unite us!", thus justifying the armed coup. But as World War loomed over the horizon he made a non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union as well as remaining neutral and disengaged with Nazi Germany, allowing him free space to initiate his own agenda. All political opponents disappeared as well as anyone who spoke out against the regime. Seveal other incidents began to arise which resulted in force being used against the civilian population. As war raged around Kulikovia, which remained neutral, Botha continued to impose his will. Soon, Socialist, Communist, and other organizations formed a resistance known as the Worker's Congress. Their sole mission was to overthrow Botha and usher in a new leftist Kulikovia. protests, demonstrations, rallies, propoganda were their tools, there were few armed engagements, the WC were not strong enough to win the support of the people. They needed a match to light the powder keg.
OOC: This takes place during WWII. The resistance is gaining momentum againt Botha and the fascist regime. They are plotting a revolutio but are not strong enough to go toe to toe with Bothist forces. The Socialists are waging a war of words and action against the regime but are meeting stiff opposition. Internal strife also plagues The Worker's Congress on how to enact the revolution. Some want armed conflict, others want a more peaceful meas. All the while, Bothist spies and supporters loom at every corner as the National Kulikovian Police (NKP), the brutal and secretive organization responsible for putting down any opposition hounds them. This rp will take place in and around the Halloween Riots, which failed to overhthrow the regime but succeeded in winning monumental support from the citizenry. You can be a supporter of the Worker's Congress, supporter of Botha, an outside agent for other nations, or whatever you can think of.
