Introducing the BGM-17 Sledge, the latest cruise missile from Phoenix Dynamix. It will revolutionize the battlefield, on air, land and sea. It features a small radar cross-section for it's size, a thermal signature hundreds of times smaller than conventional designs and a gigantic payload. The secret? All wooden construction to save weight and reduce radar footprint and propeller power to reduce ir signature!!!

The BGM-17 Sledge sports an impressive 5,000 pound warhead and cruises at the blinding speed of 350mph. It is powered by the PD-782 Disposable Turboprop Engine and guided by a complex trajectory calculating contraption which is self-contained at the launch platform. Its range is over 100 miles.
Price
$60,000 each!

OOC: In addition to my nation's political standpoint concerning them, I prefer to avoid interacting with several particular members of those organizations whenever possible.

OOC:

How does this thing take off? I assume it can't be fired from a VLS because its tuboprop...and shouldn't the propeller be in the front? I don't recall seeing many if any at all WWII turboprops with a tail propeller.

OCC: IT doesn't seem to me like it could do significant damage to most ships, its KE power is little, and the payload a little small?

5000lb is nothing to sneeze at; the standard Tomohawk lifts 2000lbs well its not an ASM ...but I'm nore curious how the thing actually flys good idea but things to consider are Turboprops have a maximum speed and a maximum weight I think far below 5000lb.

A single turboprop engine on a C-130 can lift over 11,000lbs

OOC: They're cheap, but I have questions to its practicality and it is really slow. CIWS and other defense systems will have a field day.

D'OH! I only remembered him by the fact that he was a major arms dealer. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

This is far slower, lighter, and with a much shorter range than the RL Brahmos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brahmos) cruise missile from India.

If you want something that can penetrate radar, you might want to try shaping an anti-shipping missile like an F-22 Raptor or F-117 Nighthawk, and then coating it in radar-absorbent material. Modern War Studies will be able to help you with that once the admin there (The Macabees on here) gets it sorted out, shouldn't be much longer.

Plus, your missile might not catch fire easily if you don't make it out of wood.

This was supposed to be the April fool's joke but since it has been so well received this is now real.
