I think they are, because in the end, it does not depend on what the majority views, but what the people who are actually RPing in a certain topic views on the issue. If all those who are RPing perfer long, drawn-out ineffienct ground battles...then that is what is right.

I don't think they are. I mean, I think that they are quite annoying when they clutter up the board; I also think that as NS board trends show, the questions will degrade to the point of obsurdity. However, for the time being, I think that they have been quite useful in gathering information, popular opinion on certain technologies...and they allow people to blow off steam about certain practices.
That will change in a few days, when, "Is RPing bowel movements useless?" threads show up.
It'll happen.
