People of Splik Launch Campaign to Eradicate Disease
In an unprecedented move to eradicate disease the Splik government has made a typically generous contribution to our society for the sole purpose of developing a 20 year research and development program to remove disease from the earth.
Speaking today from his residence in the Slakra province, Senior Medical Officer, Professor Mikail Redbridgiskovtovkyron commented, "Since the dawn of time mankind has longed for a cure to suffering from disease. Today our proud nation has become the first in the history of mankind to embark upon a journey that will reach that aim."
The professor expalined that whilst some would probably adopt views ranging from praising the boldness though to ridiculing the naivete, this aim and the costs associated were far more pragmatic, important and worthwile than sending a man to the moon. "In 20 years we will have developed a strong base to remove all suffering from our nation. Would you rather see this, or watch some black and white film of a man walking around in the dust ?"
Officers from the newly formed Department of Science and Wealth confirmed that the program would cost in the region of 2000 Billion Doomots and would provide employment for around 400,000 people.
In another announcement today the government of Splik stated that it would make all research into drugs and pharmacueticals for profit illegal from midnight tonight. Armed forces were preparing to seize the assets of all organisations that were involved in such activities.
