IC: Tunisia gladly welcomes all competition in the firearms bussiness but poses a question to the makers of the Redwood Mk.I

In what ways is it, if it is, superior to the Mannlicher M95?

The Redwood does not use rimmed ammunition, which causes some problems with loading and the recoil on the Redwood is not as high as the M95 rifle; due to the M95 using a powerful round. Obviously the Redwood also adds one more bullet into the magazine than a normal 5 round magazine.

Weight. Mass charges. Bayonets ready. I don't give a shit how many rounds I have in my clip if i'm running at someone with a machine gun. The lighter you are the faster you are. Plus six rounds is harder to remember than five. Plus, what does recoil REALLY matter in a bolt action rifle? You fire, you have to put down the sights anyways.

We'll have you know the Mannlicher M95 no longer uses rimmed ammunition, although on your other points we must cede the argument. Fine show sir!

Holy bejesus, there wasn't a call for such harsh attacks sir :eek: .

That wasn't an attack. Possibly a bit harsh but that was more towards the Mannlicher, seeing as it weighs .9 kilos more.

But why in God's name would you RUN at somebody with a machine gun?

Because it's the way you've been doing it for the last nineteen hundred years.

(OOC) Actually you don't have to lower the sights...

{OOC: Good point. But I still don't think recoil matters much on a bolt-action rifle.}

OOC: True dat. Never fired a gun before, but I would guess that lower recoil also aids accuracy.

OOC: It does. If you have higher recoil, it'll be much of a task to get back on target because the kick would just throw you off target and if you have a fragile body, the recoil might throw your balance out the window.

IC: The Great Republic of Celtia would be glad to send models to the New Roman Empire for evaluation if your interest is high enough.

{OOC: 'Fragile' Body in any seroius army? Lol, that's probably not going to happen. Anyways with a bolt action you still have to take your hand away from the gun, which throws you off anyways.}

OOC: There are always going to be body types like "fragile" since basic training in 1914 is not as physical as modern day training. Also, the hand pulling the bolt back does not throw you off. Recoil does impact accuracy if you're shooting in the standing or kneeling position. If you have high recoil, then the gun has a bad kick, which in combat situations, you don't want to have. You want to place as many bullets as you can into as many targets as you can quickly. If you have high recoil, then that elimnates a few vital seconds for you to bring the rifle back up to fire another target and thus, the possibility of you getting shot before you can fire again is increased. It wouldn't matter if the rifle was supported or if you were in the prone position, but for other cases, you wouldn't want high recoil.

{OOC: I highly doubt it would elliminate seconds. To reset your gun in the direction of a charging man isn't that difficult, also the gun can be reloaded, if the 'fragile' man's gun kicks back. Of course this would take training or expierence on the field to know and do quickly. And most defenders where the troops -in actual World War I- who actually shot their rifles, usually support by sand bags or other such items. If you're defending against an oncomming enemy and you don't have any military defence -which pretty much equals no supports- then the position is almost surely lost, unless in a forest. :) I love forests :). Anyways... and if you're attacking you're usually running and at that you'd probably only stop for a moment to shoot your gun and run off, or if you're behind a wall -could be used as support- or other bullet-proof object you're more likely to not stay out past one shot for fear of getting killed.}

OOC: Meh, I'm done debating today, still haven't convinced me. But anyways back on topic.

IC: The Redwood Mk.I rifle will soon be adapted to take foreign ammunition like the 8mm Mauser or 30-06 Springfield round.
