Coalition Sought

Balkan Peoples
23-03-2007, 00:28
We, the government of the Democratic Republic of Balkan Peoples, wish to make the following announcement;

Due to a recent separation of nations in the region of the Former Yugoslavia, the DRBP has built a large military complex in an area just outside of it's capital. The role of the military in our nation has always been for regional peacekeeping, and 10% of our population are currently in the military.

However, due to recent hostilities from nearby nations, we seek to bolster our own forces by forming a coalition army consisting of a small number of forces from various other nations. This coalition's role will be to safeguard the capital from rebel forces, to peacekeep and to act as a back-up police force during times of tension. The region is currently in a transitional period, and for this reason we require some assistance to ensure that this transition runs smoothly.

Be assured that any troops you commit will be well looked after by our government and the policy of your own governments will be respected at all times. The troops will be in use until further notice is given.

We thank you for your time and consideration on this matter.

Regards,

Mark Ovenden

Tolvan, since when?

I've seen it dozens of times, some noob shows up on his first post and tries to send a 500,000 man army to invade his neighbor and is instantly bombarded with complaints of number wanking and god modding. It may be acceptable to some, but I think it's utterly moronic to think any nation can realistically support anywhere near that level of military personnel.

Exactly, if you want to have anything approaching a decent standard of living, 1-2% is about as high as you can go.

I use less than .25% of population at the moment.

Thankyou for your advice.

We have decided to cut our forces to 2% in order to facilitate the growth of our economy, however, we still require other nations to help us with a coalition.

Also, I note that someone mentioned me invading somewhere. We have no intention of invading anywhere, as we have no argument with anyone at present and are not strong enough to do so anyway.

OOC: Thats good, nobody could hold it against you anyways...your new to this and still gotta learn how it works eh...2% is good, well..better than 10%..hehe, good luck with your coalition by the way.

Its fully possible to have more than 2,5% in army, atleast in wartime. If country is running in total war economy then i would say even 10% is possible, but of course no country can produce enough weaponry for such army alone so they probably will be poorly armed, but with foreign aid it can be solved(so completely achievable for small nation that is supported by bigger friends with lots of weaponry). Hell, I would say that even 15% is possible but that would demand long previous preparation and very extensive foreign economic aid to avoid total economic collapse and so big army could be sustained only for very limited timeperiod.

In peacetime, army should be ideally less than 1% to avoid damaging economy. 5-10% at peacetime is of course total nonsense.
