Universe II
Founded more than 8 months ago, Universe II was the epicenter for Future Tech roleplayers looking to find their own room outside of the generic NS universe, while still maintaining their own national identity. While experiencing a recent setback in identity, several of the core members of Universe II have looked to revitalize the project that initially had been quite successful. No restrictions, no regrets: UII is the hub for open-ended FT roleplayers who look to expand their opportunities based off of their NS nations.
UII Quick Q&A
What is the general mission of UII?
UII looks to provide an expanded base of FT roleplaying still derived from the NationStates universe, but allowing for further freedom of creativity and review and participation by like-minded writers that such RPs may not be recieved on the main II site.
What kind of restrictions on nations are there?
Very little: UII is fairly open-ended and permissive for the full use of mind and soul in writing up a full genre of FT dreams and stories of passion and experience. Anyone from the barely-experienced to the seasoned RPing vet can find a home on UII, and with NS roleplaying experience, one can find easy success amongst the UII RPers. Though many utilize their NS national identities on UII, though it is not a requirement.
Is UII totally seperate from NS?
No. UII and NS can be different, or they can go hand-in-hand. Though RPing can be done on the main UII site, RPing can also be conducted, and is in some cases encouraged, to be done here at the main II site. Though it may require minor adjustment, the transition from II to UII roleplaying is somewhat little. II-only participants take note, though, that UII threads, unless stated, are closed to UII members only when on the II boards. Always rememeber to include "UII" in your thread title here on II.
As it is, the moderation of II will apply as well to UII threads here in II-said NS moderators will have the say as long as RPs are conducted on these forums. UII forum-based RPs will be regulated by UII admins.
Is it only FT?
FT is the general consensus of UII; however, MT, PMT, and PT, in limited quantities, could likely find some sort of a place-albeit, not the center stage, which is focused on FT-in UII. Though it hasn't been actively tried, it could certainly form an interesting genre of UII story RPing.
Rules? Regs?
Just the basics. No flaming, trolling, or godmodding, as would be expected of an NS-derived RPing site. OOC debates of an RP can be taken and discussed by the entire UII community, for a wider view on certain issues-however, there is no universal IC law for what can and can't be done. As long as it can seem somehow feasible and not completey overmatching others, it can be done. Apart from that, the rules sticky in UII can explain the rest on the main site. Be considerate to others, and simply act in a way appropriate to other fellow RPers.
Sounds good. What do I gotta do to sign up?
It's not hard. Simply hop over to http://z14.invisionfree.com/universeii and create an account. Once your account is accepted, you can move on to national claimage amidst the stars. Once again, utilizing your NS identity is a good track to move on, as it blends well with UII RPing conducted here on the II forum.
How do claims work?
Claiming a nation is fairly simple. Neither population nor land are restricting factors-though while RPing here on II with non-UIIers, you may want to maintain your NS population for ease of flow. Besides that, essential information will be on military statistics (important, as we have our imperialists ;) ), national holdings (the Milky Way galaxy is contested territory, but besides that, it's all mostly open), a history (detailed or somewhat simple, though some histories have gone on literally for pages), and any other pertinant info you can think of. Once done, unless you've done an absolute marvel of an initial claim (they've happened), you'll be put into a claim test to see your RPing ability. It's not a "Perfection or die", it's simply to see your creativity at work, and for admins to post helpful suggestions on improving your ability to its strengths and weaknesses. Once an admin has cleared you completely, it's on to RPing.
How about tech and the question of wanking? It is FT after all...
Wanking and tech crazy stuff is always considered, but discussion and talk are valued characteristics of UII. If someone takes an issue of how something happens, involved parties can talk it over in the OOC sections of the board, or have an open-forum discussion for all to look it over and determine what's the best choice of advancement. This is to reduce argument and flaming, and for the months of UII, it's worked.
How do I go about explaining more of my nation after the initial claim?
UII has a dedicated "factbook" section that serves the function of a national almanac for all participants. One can utilize this feature or not, but it goes miles to assisting in background information on one's nation. Here, one can moderate their own forum section devoted solely to their nation's info, and one can put in new info all the time.
Can I have more than one nation?
Yes, but it's not truly encouraged. One can have seperate nations, but as would be expected, the seperate nations would utilize less contact between them and limit any dealings, as well as maintaining no unfair advantages that could undermine other participants.
How does activity relate to UII?
There is no requirement limit on activity; however, we do expect member nations to be reasonably active-to at least show themselves at a reasonable rate (I'll leave "reasonable" as a case-by-case interpretation). If you have a conflict with making regular activity, simply pass it by the admins and they'll check you off with it. If a nation does not show up for three weeks without notification, their nation will be vacated and removed from UII databanks. Obviously, if a situation arises, notification of such situation will clear said nation from deletion. We do look to avoid a repeat of the vacance that has recently hit UII, and encourage all UII members to be active frequently.
If you wish to leave UII-and I highly suggest you don't take this course-please notify one of the admins beforehand so they may remove your nation upon your departure to streamline efficiency.
Who can I go to amongst the II community for further info?
I'm always open, hit me up with a TG-Amazonian Beasts. For other guys, check out Hyperspace Travel or Spit Break-HT is UII's founder and main admin, while SB is a dedicated member of the UII community.
If you have further questions, feel free to post them up here-one of us will do our best to answer concerns or comments.
We look forward to working with your nation amidst the stars of the second universe, both here and on the UII forums!
If you're interested, I'll tack your nation down here to get a semi-accurate count on who've we got.
