Colliding Wars (Open MT, ATTN: New Nicksyllvania, enemies of NN/allies of Wagdog)

General Secretary Carolinus Horridus was a very busy man. Spreading the word of evidence of genocide committed in Mhoudia by Armite Zansk forces, arranging for the peaceful deportation of some 250,000 minor Stalinist convicts from the Scandinvans' civil war, plus managing his OWN war against the Imperial Empire of New Nicksyllvania resulting from their indiscriminate downing of several Wagdoggie naval aircraft (pursuant to their own declaration of war that he'd actually been inclined to ignore before said aggression); it was all becoming very tiresome VERY quickly. And of course, Christine has to attend the Pearce Anti-Slavery Summit, so no 'relief' from her either. Typical. Yes, the life of a revolutionary never got any easier; especially once the State power had been won, it seemed.
But still, he drew some hope from two things. First, with assistance from engineers of the World Soviet Party, construction of an 1000-missile strong A-135 ABM system for damage-limitation capabilities against a nuclear strike on Wagdog was nearing completion. It was still some days away, but so far the slow pace of the war had only benefitted what itself couldn't be helped after all. Plus Shazbotdom's ABM satellites, last we checked, were still in place too. Heh. In short, Horridus' nation was soon to be vastly better protected against nuclear attack; even if still not equal to the largest arsenals out there perhaps. Combine that with the five Typhoons secretly commissioning under a new Sixth Fleet HQ, with both nuclear and conventional attack sub squadrons as escorts, and we do indeed have a deterrent methinks. There were now limits on what even New Nicksyllvania could do to Wagdog, at least without suffering unacceptable retaliation itself in exchange...
And second, there was the prospect of Scandinvan escort for the Stalinist exiles being shipped to new lives in Wagdog. Hopefully, New Nicksyllvania wouldn't be so callous as to fire on enemy civilian ships and planes likely to be escorted themselves by neutral warships and fighters; at least, until Wagdog's own air and maritime boundaries were reached. To take advantage of this probability, the following statement would be issued by the Wagdoggie government...

IC:
To The Imperial Empire of New Nicksyllvania, Plus Our Allies against Same, and All Neutral Nations Concerned
Although we shall remain at war with New Nicksyllvania until such time as they formally and fully rescind their pointless declaration of war against us, the Lone Alliance, and several other powers; we do wish certain conditions to be known. Known to all, for they are pertinent to any who may find themselves in the war zone; whether friend, foe, or neutral.
First, aside from said Nicksyllvanian declaration of war, and the naked aggression supporting it that has now cost hundreds of our naval personnel their lives, there are no obstacles to peace between the Wagdoggie Government and the Imperial Empire of New Nicksyllvania. In short, Nicksyllvania: make peace with everybody else you declared war against regarding Zanski, first, and we shall automatically and unconditionally consider the same done regarding you; without need for the trite formalities of a conference unless the others you have offended against so desire.
Second, be aware that we are currently engaged in evacuation of noncombatants from the neutral Empire of the Scandinvans. They have agreed to deport those convicted Stalinist rebels not sentenced to life imprisonment or death, some 250,000, to us. We repeat, we are evacuating nonviolent communists, even if ideologically-extreme ones perhaps, in support of the legitimate Scandinavan monarchy. We have asked for their escort of our ships and aircraft carrying these persons, and would most strenuously advise against attacking either them or their escorts. Despite several provocations to the contrary on New Nicksyllvania's part, such as the recent use of two nuclear depth charges against us during combat in Zansk waters, we in Wagdog wish to keep this a limited war; and we sincerely ask even our enemies to have the same sense about themselves.
I reiterate: if New Nicksyllvania tires of this pointless and so-far indecisive war as we do, all that needs be done is a complete rescinding of the offending Declaration of War by the Imperial Empire upon all nations declared against; notably including ourselves, the Lone Alliance, and the United Socialist States of the Northern Baltic. That done, hostilities on our part can be ceased and this matter hopefully consigned to the past. But only if such is done. Otherwise, we shall continue to defend our allies, our policies, and ourselves with the utmost means we deem appropriate.

Sincerely,
Carolinus Horridus
General Secretary, United Socialist States of Wagdog

OOC: Does Wagdog operate a nuclear deterrant?
Wagdog
21-03-2007, 04:00
OOC: Does Wagdog operate a nuclear deterrant?
OOC: Yes, although ICly our policy is basically similar to that of RL Israel; we have them, and the equipment to test them by simulations instead of actual detonations (made even easier by us operating proven Soviet designs) as purchased here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12362319&postcount=1331), so the question of "how much" is left to others' intelligence establishments to figure out.:p ICly, you and others can consider this reply to be the culmination of some long-running work by your intelligence agencies, even if certain truly SIC things (such as how close I am to ABM completion or SSBN patrol routes) will take much and detailed intelligence RP to ferret out.
Capabilities-wise, offensive strategic deterrents available to me now include the five Typhoon-class subs (each with 20 SS-N-20 Sturgeon SLBMs packing 10 200-kiloton warheads per missile), and sixty Tu-160M Blackjack-Bs with a maximum load of 24 Kh-55SM/AS-15B Kent nuclear ALCMs each per strategic strike run; at least five complete reloads are also in reserve storage for each system. "Defensive" deterrents are grouped into an expanded version of the A-135 ABM System guarding RL Moscow, distributed throughout my country's islands for maximum military and civilian coverage possible (erring on the civilian side). As for how many missiles, radars &c I'm setting up in that system, learning that will need more RP sleuthing on the inquirer's part (again).
"Tactical" offensive deterrents include the 3K10SM/SS-N-21B Sampson-B nuclear SLCM for all submarines (including Kilos, which receive two as standard issue unless serving in the Red Banner Coast Guard), 3M10SM/SS-C-4B Slingshot-B nuclear GLCM for theater deterrence of invasion against the capital and other major strategic centers, and Kh-15/AS-16 Kickback SRAMs for bomber self-defense or attack of strategic targets too difficult for cruise-missile engagement. And ATBM defense is entrusted to S-400 Triumph/SA-21 Growler SAMs, as well as general strategic air defense. Note also that "conventional" versions of all these weapons systems but the SLBMs exist in my arsenal; such as the Kh-555/AS-15C Kent-C CALCM and its sea-based (RKP-555/SS-N-21C Sampson-C) or land-based (RK-555/SS-C-4C Slingshot-C) derivatives, as well as conventional antiradar (Kh-15P) and antiship (Kh-15A) versions of the Kh-15/AS-16 Kickback family.
I can tell you this much about my doctrine, since I think it is only fair and could be ICly surmised from standard intelligence work. Despite the appearances, I do not operate a nuclear first-strike force; simply enough strategic force to ensure that, whatever shape I'm in after a successful nuclear attack on me (which would have to be massive once my ABMs are in place and growing more numerous from domestic production each year.), my enemy will be in equally dire condition if not worse. Also, my defensive deterrents complement my offensive ones; since they either reduce the effectiveness of a given-size strike against me (countervalue or counterforce), or raise the threshold any strike must exceed to "assure" my destruction. Indeed, raise that threshold probably to beyond what all but the mightiest nuclear powers could afford to throw against me, without risking vulnerability to still mightier enemies of their own.

OOC: OK.:D I accept, and will split the aid as indicated IC. Could you crossquote this reply into my Colliding Wars thread so I don't spam my own thread (LOLz)? Hopefully this will convince NN to disclose what damage my last strike (in the Zanski Declares War on Communism thread) did to his fleet, since I was aiming for as many carrier and superdreadnought kills as possible before I had to bug out once Questers got serious.
I also have a diplomatic push going on in that thread, trying to convince the world that King Kang Arma's going genocidal now. Hopefully you can back my evidence without getting your Questarian and Clandonian allies too angry; but if you can't, don't risk IC dishonor or worse on my account. I can make my own case if needed, even if it'll be riskier and harder...
Also, don't hesitate to check my factbook if you need the basic State names and major military HQs (all near cities) to help your deployment in my country. My States are as follows, all alternates of RL places: "Tails Islands"= Solomon Islands including the PNG half, "Revolutionary Guinea"= Papua New Guinea minus the Solomons but plus West Papua, "Pilot"= Palau, "Shoenesia"= Micronesia/Guam/Northern Marianas, "New Coledonia"= New Caledonia, "Red Stanleya"= Samoa plus American Samoa, "Crossfire Islands"= Marshall Islands/Kiribati, "Revolevuji"= Fiji, "Vaniteia"= Vanuatu, "Takeaway"= Tokelau, "Twotimea"= Tuvalu, "Nereid"= Nauru, and "Sleep Island"= Wake Island. You can make up base names; usually just the state capital name with Garrison, Airbase or Harbor tacked on. Just state them and I'll put them in my factbook later as part of my country's canon info.
IC:
Excellent. The Revolutionary Command Council War Office (what others usually call a "Joint Cheifs of Staff") and First Fleet flagship UWS Deng Xiaoping (an Ul'yanovsk CVN, Admiral Jennifer Opalclaw commanding) both confirm OBSAT linkup and data stream. For now, rendezvous with First Fleet and deployment to the edge of Wagdoggie territorial waters to further rendezvous with Fourth and Fifth Fleets, inactive under modernization since before the Strator Campaign and until now, is requested. Together, our own forces shall muster precisely three times First Fleet Strength and more besides (Altogether 6 Ul'yanovsk CVN, 6 Kiev CVS, 2 Stalingrad-Mod CBG, 12 Kirov CGN, 60 Udaloy II DDK, 51 Berezina AOE, 60 Ivan Rogov LPD, 135 Neustrashimy FFG, 30 Akula II SSN and 10 Oscar II SSGN), ready for whatever may happen. Do note, however, that First Fleet may have to deploy on its own to Zansk waters soon given the deteriorating situation there, but for now will act defensively with you as indicated.
Diplomatically, we request your support in drawing attention of the Crown Imperium Questers and their allies to the deteriorating situation in Royalist Zanksi, where reasonable reconnaissance data of ours provides compelling (if circumstantial) evidence that King Kang Arma is engaging in politically-motivated genocide against his country's Zaynite minority. We cannot ask more in good conscience, since we would never ask you to betray your allies by force of arms even to save ourselves. But with your combined status as a Questarian Commonwealth and a friend of ours, we feel you're in the best position to convince the Crown Imperium and its allies of the major public relations disaster they are all courting by continuing to support the genocidal King Kang. We cannot hide what we know, or fail to act on it if the situation demands of us; even if we must act alone. All we ask is of them is their simple withdrawal of support from Kang's regime, so either we and our Aurum Doman allies or the Zansk rebels themselves can capture him and bring him to justice; preferably, justice by international trial in either Aurum Domus or Vetaka, which can be decided in due time. We do not wish to try him ourselves or by the Xanka Red Authority allied with (under?) former President Modi Arma, Kang's own father, since we know how some nations would perceive said trial as a "communist kangaroo drumhead" or worse, and we share their desire for Kang to get the fair and unquestionably-legitimate hearing any accused deserves.
We do not wish you to betray your ties, and will not ask so. If you feel even this diplomatic request of ours is too much, you may refuse it and we shall continue to support Vetaka regardless. In any case, we shall disclose to you via [THIS] encrypted data attachment where your Vanguard can rendezvous with our Typhoons on patrol, as part of an SSBN bastion under our attack subs' escort. With your aid, a sufficient deterrent against the worst Nicksyllvania can conceivably throw at us is possible.
Sincerely in Solidarity,
Mario Illiescu
Secretary of Defense, United Socialist States of Wagdog
OOC: Quoted raw here for combined OOB. Quickie since its mostly an FYI post for anybody joining this; the meat being in the quotes.
IC: Having just steamed from out of their homeports in Modera, the Crossfire Islands and Nealea, New Coledonia, the Wagdoggie Fourth and Fifth fleets soon made rendezvous with the Vetakan 5th Battlefleet and Wagdog's own First Fleet redeploying from The Fighting Stars. In other words, although the deployments were still ongoing, Wagdog's territorial security against Nicksyllvanian attack had just grown immensely; as would the costs of such a move on the enemy's part in the coming days...

"But they're commies," Jael Chedrin protested. "More so, they're foreigners."

"Jael, I'm in no mood to argue pointlessly with you on a matter we both know I'm right about." Karael Tanner sighed. "You can either write the message, or I'll do it myself."

"People aren't going to like this," Chedrin said. "Not only has there been a fuckload of anti-communist sentiment since, I don't know, Hogsweat or the Comintern? But the people are also upset now that we've got half a million men out there on naval exercises. That's half a million families that have been writing angry e-mails to my staff, and your staff too I suspect, asking why these 'military exercises' are necessary and when they'll see their sons and daughters again. You want me to go out there and tell them they might not?"

"I'll talk to the Internal Council. They can easily go out and paint the Wagdoggies as a sovereign nation, just like Catalasia itself, which has come under attack for its attempt to preserve freedom and democracy."

"... Would that work? People would be wondering how commie xenos even know about freedom and democracy, or something. For ages we've been implying that freedom is what we and a few other select countries—Praetonia or Hamptonshire for instance—practice exclusively."

"First of all, since when do the people actually remember things like that? All they've got now is a vague patriotism that we uphold freedom and sovereignty, and a vague dislike of communism and fascism. If someone were to go in and challenge them to argue why they're so patriotic, or why they hate communists, nine out of ten would end up admitting that they don't really know. In fact, we even have a six percent membership in the Catalasian Socialist Party.

"Second, this is our chance to show the world that we're not going to sit on the side when sovereignty and freedom is threatened. It'll provide practice on the off chance the Corporate Alliance, or some such absurd xeno group, decides to do something stupid. If we play it right, it'll raise nationalistic awareness, and rekindle the old 'proud to be a Catalasian' mantra people are starting to forget since we've been so damn peaceful."

They were sitting at a small table in the canteen. That term was insufficient to describe the Bureaucratia's watering hole; one got the sense, from staring at the Secret Service waiters and servers, or perhaps the ancient wooden tables, or the innumerable chess games, or the tinted windows... but whatever it might have been, one tended to feel as though this was a place with history and deadly secrets behind it. If the walls could talk, only heaven knows how many classified secrets they might reveal.

Tanner was sipping from a mug of black coffee, strong, without milk or sugar (as was her fashion). Chedrin had a milk tea. Between them were a few files and maps, as well as the statistical data from polls and the ORBAT for Carrier Fleet Three, which was currently deployed on millitary exercises outside Havenic waters. While full approval of the Bureaucratia was required for actual warfare, military exercises could be ordered without a vote.

Chedrin sighed. "I'm still a bit iffy on this. It's unlikely we can get all of the Councils to agree on this—remember that war requires unanimous agreement of the Defence Council, and two-thirds of all the other Councils as well."

"Psh. If we're attacked, that shouldn't be a problem in the slightest," Tanner said. "Nonetheless, I'll have John order the navy to continue its military exercises off Wagdog's waters, issue the standard 'do not disturb' message, and move us to Defcon Two."

"Defcon Two?"

"Yes, without the 'Homeland Call to Arms' protocol. Only military personnel, and maybe half of those at that. I doubt we'll even need the kind of firepower Antyrion can bring in."

"I might have some explaining to do if this blows over on its own," Chedrin muttered.

"That's what you're here for." Tanner grinned.

Admiral Jacob L. Kuper was faintly surprised by the instructions he'd received. He knew that the Imperial Commonwealth had planned to change its foreign policies slightly to "adapt to the real world", as one newspaper put it, since the inception of the Ladd Administration. Things had changed internally, of course; Ladd was Grand Executor, a step or two from Emperor, and the Defence Council had become the largest and most important branch of the Bureaucratia, with massive increases in defence spending.

Now, Kuper reflected, some of that was going to be put to use.... He reached across the desk and hit a button. "Ensign, order the fleet to the co-ordinates listed, flank speed."

Within twenty minutes the hundred and five ships of Carrier Fleet Three were all beginning to move again, this time bound for Wagdog. It steamed ahead at no less than thirty knots; overhead flights of UAVs and fighters were constantly recording information about the fleet's position and those of other fleets in the area, as well as picking up anything else useful.

It would be hours before they would arrive, but Kuper had already drafted a message to the Wagdoggie Government. And once the Catalasian fleet was in position, it was sent with little ceremony.

As a lone Ka-29 utility chopper lifted off the deck of the Wagdoggie fleet's main carrier, with distant air cover of two Su-33 Flanker-D's maintaining a neutral BARCAP between the Catalasian fleet and the Wagdoggie/Vetakan combined force, the following message was sent the Catalasians' way in reply.

Also, fast-forwarding the action slightly.]

The Veneration was no small carrier. Half a kilometre in length, it and the surrounding core of big ships (the remaining carriers, battleship, and LHDNs) were mainly there as a show of Catalasian global power projection across the globe. As the Ka-29 chopper descended from the sky, a half-squadron of F-1 Dragonflies keeping figurative eyes on it from afar as well, Admiral Jacob Kuper and four of his officer staff emerged into the light of day, blinking slightly at the sun before stepping across the tarmac amidst the variety of planes awaiting activity on the deck. Here and there small groups of fighter pilots and seamen were visible, chatting among themselves; overhead helicopters and UAVs passed frequently, some of them only just clearing the superstructure, so low did they fly.

As the helicopter touched down a small distance from the entrance to the superstructure, the Admiral would emerge to see the Catalasian senior officers, who introduced themselves cordially: "Greetings and welcome to the Veneration; I am Admiral Jacob L. Kuper of the Commonwealth Navy, and this is my senior staff. Thank you for taking the time to attend this meeting."

She, and any bodyguards or aides attending, was led inside to a large room, containing very little but a table with chairs on both sides, and several large LCD screens. Kuper sat down in front of a dossier, placed there unobtrusively by an aide, and flipped it open before looking up at Admiral Opalclaw. "I hope this isn't too classified," he said half-jokingly, "but we're wondering what the tactical situation in Zanski is, and how this relates to the threats against the Wagdoggie homeland?" Behind him the Catalasian STRATINT image of Zanski popped up, showing the last known locations of various fleets and scarce little else.

To Wagdog:
The Nicksyllvanian Empire will not withdraw it's declaration of war, we will not idly stand by and witness the consumption of the World by the Communist demons. If you withdraw all your forces from Zanski immediately, we will tolerate your putrid existance as a nation and will not conduct attacks upon your nation nor your sphere of influence, although we will still intervene if attempt to spread the communist taint through force.
The aledged massacre of a mere 200 persons is no grounds for invasion of a soveign nation especially when our latest intelligence reports have confirmed that those 200 were indeed communist subhumans who were attempting a socialist coup.

We mean War on Communism as sort of an umbrella term for many different events e.g any wars we engage in will be part of the War on Evil.

Six people have been tried and executed on the grounds of organising a pro-communist anti-government riot.

Great! how about an alliance?

We would like a good war anyway.

***BREAKING NEWS***

Riots broke out in the street today by students, not pro-communist riots, but pro-political freedom riots.

***

General Stykes of the Inland army (for military operations inside the country) was called into Xanka to control the army that had been called to keep peace. No bullets had been fired, but teargas had been deployed. The students were throwing bricks, petrol bombs, Glass bottles, and bowling balls.

Stykes laughed. He saw Thirty soldiers with AK-47's, and two hundred students with merely petrol bombs. He weighed up his thoughts, and issued a command that would dictate the future of the Armite Dynasty of Zanski.
"Why are you standing round letting them mess you about? Shoot the motherfuckers!"

At that moment, there was the biggest spillage of blood in peacetime Zanski. One hundred and Twelve student bodies were found, and two soldier bodies.

It was ordered that soldiers would patrol the cities in fear of riots.
This was when the Zansk populace realised that King Arma and his parliament were scared of them.

The Zanx rebels in Xanka will welcome you to the city to get King Arma, but some news has broken out...

***Today, the Zansk rebels stormed through the Cedar house, fighting off soldiers and guards until the area was completely cleared. To their utter discomfort, they found no evidence of the King or advisors. The palace will be blown up later today and the ruins searched.

In the meantime, a group of rebels known as the Red Authority has seized control, with ideas of one of the earth's true democracies ahead. But for now, the capital will be under the direct authority of the Junta.

There are talks of turning Communist, but the RA has dismissed this as a complete rumor. No one is sure where Arma is, but there are talks of him leaving for the island of Ambai. The rest of the nation is currently governed by King Arma's Parliament, nicknamed the Blue Authority.***

King Arma has denied these accusations as "Propaganda from the evil communistic forces that be. I would never kill a race, for my father freed the muslims in this nation from the evil hands of General Axim during our civil war, may blessings rain upon the graves of those who died. They make fun of us, but as we are speaking, we are sending out 270 warplanes to meet them!"
And then went on to say:
"My father, who I have disowned due to his supporting of the communists, has been found and has joined the evil communist Red Xanka Authority!"
(which is true)

--------------------------

Mrahed, capital of the Zaynah region

The troops arrived at the town, which had been free from any recognised authority for 26 years. The Zaynite flag was flown from many buildings and many large bunkers and sniper towers graced the streets, but yet this was an extremely poor nation. Surprisingly, even the Zaynite Republican Front, the Zaynite army, had surrendered and were getting onto the trucks. But this town only had twenty thousand people in it. there was much more to get, and chances were that they wouldn't get them without a fight.

OOC: OK, before I start the IC denucniation, it's great to have you here finally.:D I was worried this would become an ally-wank-fest before long. Anyway, do you have basic specs on your ships and aircraft? I've been looking around and can't find full stats for the Atrocity or other such classes you use, although I do trust that you've accurately RPed their capabilities so far, since NS point defenses are indeed far more effective than in RL. My stuff is all RL for now, although the army will be converting to Czechalrussian stuff either later in this war or afterward and the navy will be adding battleships of my own design if it drags on even longer, so you could find specs for any missiles or ships or stuff I send against you pretty easily on either Wikipedia or The New Soviet Storefront.

IC:
Admiral Jennifer Opalclaw, a petite woman whose compact, muscular build and short tawny hair betrayed her were-bobcat heritage even when in Human form and some days away from the next full moon, wasted no time in elaborating for Admiral Kuper. Her 16-man section of Red Banner Marines under Sergeant Cleaver Oldson stood at attention; with only the sergeant's Fort-12 pistol and PP-19 Bizon submachine gun, plus the recruits' AK-103 assault rifles in their old-style wooden-forend and folding-metal butt furniture, to be seen. "Currently, our only fleet in Zansk waters is withdrawing, after suffering heavy damage to all ships and some losses cruiser-grade and below on account of Nicksyllvanian forces. Although they employed two 5-kiloton nuclear ASROCs against us in retaliation for our 'preemptive self-defense' alpha-strike once they shot down several of our aircraft in an indiscriminate AA barrage, most of our fleet is still seaworthy and proceeding to port for repair and refit." She flashed a feral smile for the victory, despite the grim situation Wagdog would face if this war dragged in either temporal or diplomatic terms.
"Nicksyllvanian forces in-theater are far worse off, with all but one or two of their carriers crippled and one, the Tadamichi, confirmed blown up with all hands and aircraft in a massive explosion; after a successful missile hit detonated all aircraft, fuel and stores onboard." She was all-predator about that statement; no remorse, although perhaps respect for a formidable enemy insofar as they were still such. "Two Atrocity-class supercapitals were equally crippled by our strikes and Lone Alliance submarine attack, though still afloat despite our best efforts and able to launch the nukes employed against us, and various lesser Battleships, Cruisers, Destroyers &c sunk or crippled.
"Although our intel on Nicksyllvania's national ORBAT and capabilities is still preliminary, the fact that they have not retaliated effectively against us so far indicates the possible scale of their defeat off Zanski in the optimum case." Not like that ever happens, of course... Opalclaw hadn't attained her rank by being complacent. Not when the enemy was larger and richer than her country, of course.
"On the ground, we have no presence after the abortion of a Marine Force Recon and Aurum Doman intelligence joint raid to capture King Kang Arma, for trial upon Crimes Against Humanity charges in either Aurum Domus or another capitalist state; in the interests of international opinion and objectivity." Opalclaw hoped the stereotypical reputation of 'Communist' trials was well-enough known to require no explanation, however ill-founded it was in principle. "Although my fleet is preparing to deploy with our attached Marine Division, and possibly another Fleet of ours with theirs too, once Vetakan scouts report in with solid evidence of Genocide by Armite Zansk forces against the Mhoudian Commonwealth's Zaynite minority; apparently another of King Arma's political grudges in action, given the attempted Zaynite coup against his regime some time ago. Aside from Mhoudia and some adjacent areas in Zanski, the rebels under the Xanka Red Authority and former President Modi Arma, Kang's father formerly-imprisoned for opposing his son's tyrannical streak, have the initiative and are in control of most of Zanksi as far as we can figure. Victory for our side in this dispute, defined as the triumph of the rebels and establishment of whatever regime President Modi Arma sees fit, is possible enough at this time; although we are trying to expedite King Arma's downfall to stop the suspected genocide, which we learned of accidentally after fighter reconnaissance of enemy antiship missile positions in Mhoudia that fired on our retreating fleets.
"If you review our open communiques pertinent to our charges, you should find our preliminary evidence quite convincing despite its circumstantial nature; perhaps damning even." How else do you explain mass deportations of people singing a death chant before they're taken away? Opalclaw thought this to herself, tensing at the very thought. She was a predator, despite trying to adapt her half-human and half-feral nature to civilized life with some success, but Kang Arma's actions offended both sides of her being; the civilized human without, and the would-be honorable hunter within. "We will not deploy before more is obtained, but that shouldn't be long now. Do you require any more?" She turned her bright brown eyes to Admiral Kuper in query. Meanwhile, her national leadership was issuing its own response to the enemy...

USSW General Secretary's Personal Reply to the Imperial Empire of New Nicksyllvania
So... I aim for the spread of the 'communist taint' by force, do I? And my nation's existence is 'putrid', is it? 'Subhuman', even? And you might 'tolerate' us like some sort of eyesore if we only withdraw from our declared policies?
Please. If the Imperial Empire cannot discuss matters with its enemies like a civilized nation, then it should not bother spamming the airwaves at all. And since your navy hardly speaks up any better, perhaps you should just shut up and withdraw instead? We stand ready to defend our policies, either in communication or battle, and so far your defense of yours has been weighed in the balance and found wanting. The fate of the carrier Tadamichi should illustrate this most of all; simply put, if you declare war against us and fire on our aircraft and crews first, we shall respond with all means we deem appropriate. For now, this does not include nuclear weapons, since we have no interest in devastating your nation; although our interest in merely 'defeating' the forces of the Imperial Empire in the field, however, is quite another matter.
To the point at hand, the fact that you claim the 200 killed or injured by Armite suppression were 'communist subhumans who were attempting a socialist coup' is put to the lie by your own ally's words. 'King' Kang Arma himself has admitted via his news service that those 200 were pro-democracy protesters, and not communists. Depressing, isn't it, when the one you support shows such complete ineptitude in diplomacy? Or even basic propaganda...
Mark. My. Words. Wagdog is neither the mightiest nor the most fervent of your enemies, that position arguably belonging to the Lone Alliance unless Chellis should decide to take action against you. But we are the best-connected; as the presence of a Vetakan fleet patrolling our waters, in honor of our tireless support for their common cause with us against slaver nations, should point out even to your Empire. And we officially support whatever regime Zanski's legitimate President, Modi Arma, should decide is proper for his nation.
Your "Red Menace" rhetoric notwithstanding, this Question of State for Zanski is in fact indeterminate, as the Xanka Red Authority has itself stated, since the practical question of winning its war against Armite forces logically comes before any squabbling over possible constitutions. If Modi Arma wants socialism, that is of course ideal from my point of view. If he wanted capitalism, however, that would also be acceptable to me as a Revolutionary (yes, I dare say this) progressive advance over the reactionary neo-feudalism Zanski suffers under at present. Actually, even if Modi just wanted Kang Arma's throne and nothing more, I'd wager he'd make a far better King than the paranoid and spoiled tyrant that is his son; who is scurrying away in Mhoudia even now, while exercising his penchant for bloody purges upon yet more innocents fighting for their basic freedom, without specific reference to Marxism or anything else.
You claim to be fighting for national 'Sovereignty'? 'King' Kang Arma voided his rights as a Sovereign when he declared war against his own people on a whim, thereby inciting them to rebellion himself rather than they rebelling out of any 'communist taint' spread by us. He also conveniently disregards the 'sovereignty' of nations that choose to follow Socialism or whatever other collectivist ideology among literally countless out there. And you join him in this utter hypocrisy, aggravated by levying aggressive war against even mixed-economy states such as the Lone Alliance or capitalist states such as Aurum Domus.
You claim that we and the Zansk or Zaynite people fighting for our inherent rights are somehow 'subhuman'? Better justification for our claims of 'fascist' tendencies in the Armite Dynasty and the Imperial Empire couldn't be provided by ourselves, and so we actually thank you for that impertinent remark. You've just made our case against you that much easier, in the court of world opinion where your case shall be weighed; as King Arma's shall be tried in a free and neutral court of international law once he is captured.
And you claim that we must abandon these fine people, these fully human beings at the cusp of winning their freedom from under a tyrant's jackboot, in return for you 'tolerating' our supposedly 'putrid' existence? Frankly, Wagdog is not subject to your toleration. Thanks to the steadfast economic aid of our GUSN allies in the World Soviet Party, I can declare to you and the world that our country's ABM system is officially operational; so nuclear threats veiled or otherwise by you have no meaning unless you wish to court massive retaliation by my own deterrent forces and those of my allies (or even neutrals such as the Dark Empire of Shazbotdom), while having to exert proportionally far greater force to achieve the same destruction against me.
Plus, your fleet has fled the Zansk seas, either crippled or sunk. Ours has suffered as well, of course, but the balance is still against you; and to seize an island nation, you must control the seas and air absolutely, or else threats against its 'putrid existence' are utterly baseless in military terms. Since my Vetakan allies patrol my skies, garrison my bases and sail my seas beside my massed Navy even now, I hardly see any way your large but pathetically-handled fleet can entertain such delusions of conquest against us with any chance of success. And while it tries and fails to achieve the Imperial Empire's objectives of subjugation and tyranny, we shall be achieving our objective in this war: the liberation of Zanski under whatever cause its President sees fit, and the Imperial Empire's defeat thereby.

Most Sincerely,
Carolinus Horridus

Kuper looked up from the notes he'd taken. "Thank you, I think that about covers it. I can't say New Nicksyllvania's aggressive rhetoric -- which is backed up by a copious lack of force -- has greatly endeared it to the Commonwealth government, to say nothing of its complete disregard for national sovereignty. Nor King Arma's tone when speaking to the international community, for that matter."

He added, "The Catalasian government has an interest in seeing Wagdoggie sovereignty upheld; in addition, the presence of our fleet in the area may help deter the Nicksyllvanians if they choose to carry the war to Wagdog's shores. Nonetheless, we will not interfere at all in the Zanski situation or any further developments in that area."

Many thanks for that data, and what is surely to come.:) It should get interesting here, since there are two WWII IJA-inspired armies (you, Vetaka) and one WWII RKKA-inspired army (mine) in this fight; so it could get gnarly right quick. Oh, which of the towns on your map is Nickon? You can tell me OOC and I'll just attribute that to OBSAT data, since that at least could be indicated by my intel...
If you need a better picture of what my factbook's stated "Field Armies" are, imagine a Soviet CFE Treaty Tank Division (two tank & two motor-rifle regiments plus support) with some limited Army-level assets (about a battalion each of 203mm SPs, SRBMs, GLCMs, Strategic SAMs, &c) as the peacetime structure, but then bloated to "Army" (Russian usage for Western "Corps") size at up to 5x that strength on full mobilization. Meanwhile, my marine "Divisions" are essentially as for the Soviet Pacific Fleet Naval Infantry Division, aside from the usual rounded-off equipment numbers and some Americanesque (permanent Marine Air Wings under divisional command) or British (use of "commandos" instead of battalions as subunits within each Division's administrative "Raider Brigade") departures to create a more-balanced force.

"Believe me, just hanging around here in case the Imperial Empire tries anything dumb is fine enough. Zanski's our fight. Now," she hated being short, but her fleet had already deployed towards Zanski and she needed to get going if she was to catch up. "Pardon my sudden departure, but I really must go. As is, I'll need to be helicoptered to a Marine Corps Air Station, our marines handling all naval aviation for us as well as amphibious work, and be flown to my carrier approaching Zansk waters now by COD transport aircraft. Our thanks, for the fair hearing and support." She saluted Kuper as her equal in rank, awaiting his premission to leave what was his CIC, after all, with her 16 marines in tow...

If only we'd had OBSAT during the Revolution... General Secretary Carolinus Horridus knew that was a juvenile fantasy, but there it was all the same. Hopefully all this won't make me soft. The sacrifices and harships of guerrilla war had shaped a depressed and radicalized college dropout into a serious political leader, oddly enough since most simply died in the nigh-always pathetic attempt to achieve this fluke themselves, and he wanted to stay serious. More than wanted... he had to.
"So, the OBSAT feeds indicate rumblings Nicksyllvania's going to put their military where their mouth is, eh?" He almost relished the idea, morbidly enough. The data was still woefully generic, hardly enough to launch a strike with by any stretch of the imagination, but still useful as a step towards that anyway.
"Indeed." Defense Secretary Mario Iliescu also didn't mind entertaining thoughts most would find repugnant, least of all when it came to actually doing the job he'd been appointed to by the current General Secretariat. "We still have some bombers both ready and inbound for regeneration; I say let's get a little 'Pearling' going if we can."
Grand Admiral Teran Suthonang nearly shot up out of his seat at the War Office Briefing Room table. "Sir! Although I respect Comrade General Reynolds' accomplishments of late, surely the Navy is to have a role in this?" Interservice rivalry was no stranger to Wagdog's defense halls...
"Of course." The vampire Defense Secretary explained, irked not least because he hadn't been able to drop by the infirmary's designated "open blood bank" for the last few hours. "You still have five Oscar II SSGNs with full missile loads. They will be needful. If we order them to proceed to the area, as well as our Fourth Fleet with Vetakan Forces in tow, we can decisively overmatch the enemy in this; a decisive battle, to smash his fleets and secure our land."
Although both the elven Secretary of State Rilir and the supposedly-human General Secretary Horridus looked askance at their coworker's seeming mania, they did not object to the idea in principle. Horridus adjourned the meeting with "Order the necessary preparations for this operation. That is, Operation: Kenobi. Load our bombers appropriately, and signal our ships and subs to make sail towards Nickon." Horridus was a definite movie buff, and he admired the Jedi Master's particularly decisive, psychological-maneuver oriented fighting style as an ideal to be striven for; as opposed to the usual amateurish attrition fighting that was so common. Hopefully, this little op would cut Nicksyllvania's naval arm off just as surely as Kenobi's lightsaber had any blaster arm; exposing their weaknesses in this realm yet again, and putting their dreams of invasion to bed in one swift stroke...

Inside the compound the two leaders of the current military operation looked over the data being delivered.
Field Marshal: "Yes those satelites are backing up Wagdog's report quite clearly, this is a massive undertaking that those Nicks are doing."
2nd in command:"Field Marshal, do we have confirmation from the council on clearance to use 'Specials'?"

FM:"No we are not allowed to use nuclear weaponry at the time."
2nd:"But sir they did use it on us."
FM: "They used it on Wagdog, not us."
2nd:"So there is nothing we can launch?"
FM: "I didn't say that, I'm preparing a couple of MIRV ICBMs for launch."
2nd:"I guess that'll do."

Kuper saluted in return sharply, saying, "No problem, and thank you for coming... although any support we may provide won't be official. We're mostly here as a first pre-combat or combat trial of the new Carrier Fleets replacing the old Battleship Fleets we used to run." He got up slightly wearily, rubbing his back, and continued, "Your helicopter is still waiting outside; we'll have a squadron escort you over to your Marine Station."

The aides led Opalclaw and her bodyguards back to the waiting helicopter; Kuper was heading the other way to his office. Just minutes after Opalclaw's helicopter had lifted off, the Catalasian Fleet was beginning to divide in two to commence its wargames. With ponderous roars the ships were separating from their tight wedge formation; Fleet Blue consisted of the Veneration, the two LHDNs, the Ankara cruisers and the Sabre destroyers, along with half of the submarines, whereas Fleet Red consisted of the battleship and other carriers, along with most of the older Isselmere-Nielander equipment. Within no more than thirty minutes the two fleets had formed up facing each other from about ten kilometers apart.

Fleet Red was arranged in a near-standard ring formation: the battleship at the centre with carriers behind it, the frigates (which were technically heavy frigates, and showed up on the computer sim as destroyers) surrounding them with the four Berlin cruisers in the front, representing the typical ‘heavy cruiser’. The outer ring was of the corvettes, lightly armed but still carrying the bulk of the anti-air armament. At least in the computer sim. All was a delicate mesh of reality and technology, one ending where the other began.

Fleet Blue was slightly different. The carriers were further back, even undefended; in front of them the cruisers and destroyers had formed a lambda, the destroyers forming the main reverse V with the cruisers, four on each side, continuing its arms. The logistical ships were behind them, protected; the two LHDNs on the inside end of the lambda, their fighters and bombers already starting to take off. In all Fleet Blue controlled 350 aircraft, to Fleet Red’s 246; nonetheless, Fleet Red had more ships and AA, not to mention the battleship. It was expected to be an even match.

The wargame began with a Red attack. The Auspice’s guns were aimed and locked on targets; evasive maneuvers and CIWS were programmed in and the computers returned the results. 72 CF-2N Shrikes were also in the air, winging in and locking their four CM-171 Anti-Ship Missiles apiece on the destroyers and cruisers. Blue responded as befitted a fleet on maximum readiness; two hundred and sixteen separate SAM locks were recorded on the incoming fighters, whereas RAMs were “deployed” to get rid of the anti-ship missiles. Nonetheless, two destroyers and a fleet tender switched their signals to disabled.

Meanwhile, Blue was carrying out an attack of its own. The Ankaras locked a quarter of their total missile complement—double stacked in the strategic tubes—upon Blue ships, or 2304 anti-ship missiles in all. Their Heavy Anti-Shipping Batteries followed up on this almost immediately, targeting the battleship and carriers; the missiles, which carried (among other things) a 1.5 tonne tungsten/DU penetrator and conventional warheads in the 5 kilotonne range, were certainly capable of sinking a battleship; the two missiles that did “hit” disabled one of its 61cm main gun batteries and blew a sizeable hole in its side. Meanwhile, the missile spam was overwhelming the escorts, knocking many of them out. Even as the Berlin cruisers tried to respond with 1728 missile locks of their own, sixty naval bombers were moving in with 800kg smart bombs and CM-171s of their own. Escorting them, a mix of ASFs, interceptors, and VTOL multirole fighters brought to bear a variety of air-to-air weapons on the enemy fighters.

The battle in the air soon degenerated into a bloody mess, with almost a quarter of the fighters marked disabled within twenty minutes, as befitted the work of skilled pilots and powerful equipment. But the battle in the sea was already decided: as the submarines engaged one another, the lambda of Fleet Blue moved forwards; destroyers marked disabled were replaced with more coming forward to take their comrades’ place, with frightening speed. The Sabre was renowned as the “sixty knot destroyer”, capable of high speeds when they were required; the squadron of destroyers was moving in, delivering dangerous amounts of ordnance (as in numbers of missiles approaching 1000 a shot), and then moving back out to evade shells, with CIWS, large radius SAMs, and RAMs providing a covering field for enemy missiles. The Ankaras kept up their part, providing even more ungodly amounts of firepower while the bombers provided a necessary distraction for enemy missile systems.

There was no actual wreckage floating in the water by the time the wargame was over, but it felt like it; all but five of the 48 combat vessels in Fleet Red had been either destroyed completely or mission-killed. Fleet Blue had suffered fewer losses, with 12 of its 31 ships remaining. Almost all of Red’s capital ships had been destroyed (all but two of the carriers and a cruiser), proving the weakness of the ring formation in an offensive capability, whereas most of Blue’s capital ships still survived; as this was practically an open ocean scenario—Wagdog was an island, and almost three hundred kilometers away at that—it proved that, for defensive fleets, the lambda formation was superior. Ultimately, for offensive fleets, a double lambda position would be adopted, but that would also be the future, when factories were vibrant with thousands of new ships in the making and the ports of Catalasia were become thriving trade hubs.

In the meantime, the Catalasian fleet was beginning to regroup. The wargames might just be about to be tested on reality. They also might not. But that was a chance the Catalasians weren't taking.

OOC: Actually, Wagdog's a series of many islands. Here's (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12456471&postcount=5) the post where my full extent is detailed, since I'm one of those "disembodied and aggregated RL islands" nations. I've commissioned a map from somebody on my regional forum, but so far haven't gotten it yet since they're a busy raider.

As Admiral Opalclaw's helicopter hit the tarmac at Aigletia Harbor Marine Air Station in the Socialist State of Shoenesia, Wagdog's geographically largest subdivision of islands, she promptly set off with her marine detachment in tow towards a waiting An-72K Coaler carrier-onboard-delivery transport. If those Catalasian maneuvers were as effective for the one side as the view made me think, well; I suspect Nicksyllvania's going to get a NASTY surprise indeed, should they try an invasion. Of course, Wagdog was still making the needed preparations for its own means to stop the problem as the Coaler took off under squadron-strength Su-27K Flanker-D fighter escort in the direction of First Fleet off Zanski. One An-71 Madcap AWACS and three Il-78M Midas tankers rounded out the 15 aircraft strong expedition once the Admiral's Coaler was included...

"What do you mean OBSAT indicates Lone Alliance ballistic missile launch preparations!?" General Secretary Horridus was not pleased at this overenthusiastic display on his other main ally in this war's part. It was bad enough it was only detected once the obvious physical preparations for firing were visually observed by the satellites.
"Just what I said... Comrade." Mario Iliescu sometimes got exasperated by his human superior's bipolar divide between ruthlessness (which he personally liked about the man) and scrupulous propriety (which he disdained unless it brought a strategic advantage to the country). "Think of it, we could wreck their fleet in port easily and then our forces could exploit the bombardment. Fire-and-movement, Comrade, only on an intercontinental scale this time!" The vampire Defense Secretary took on the tone of a mad scientist praising his own genius now.
"...Maybe. Or it could just as easily get us all reduced to so much glass by Nicksyllvania and the ACTO. Before the firing commences, get me the secure teletype. I need to get some orders out." Horridus wasn't going to let negligence destroy the relatively clean victory he'd been pulling off so far.
"Yes." Mario Iliescu knew that this would be the most consideration his position would get. At least you're not so spineless in your mortality as to not see effectiveness when it's before your face, he thought.

Z: My army has universal male conscription (17-20) and then contracts any soldier they deem worthy for 25 years as an NCO or CO, so there may be few me who can join such a proxy army. However it can be made up of Colonial citizens who are not allowed into the Imperial army and want a chance at a better lifestyle and to fight communism.

Neutral Waters in between Docked New Nickslyania Fleet and pursuing NN Fighters on Wagdog Bombers Squadrons:

The ocean was calm, still and peaceful a few sea birds sat in the water. Suddenly the water broke sending bursts of water high into the sky the birds flew as high as they could for all they knew 33 objects had appeared out of no where. 3 of which where deploying small STOL landing Strips if you where a Naval Expert you would know know these objects to be submarines and you would know the 3 huge objects to be Poseidon Class Submarine Carriers as carrying 50 Eurofighter Typhoons each. This was the Vetakan Submarine Carrier Battle Group they had arrived on scene a day or so ago just in case the situation justified immediate Air Strikes.

The Typhoon fighters rose from the carrier group formed into formation and shot away towards the NN Fighters Currently running down Wagdog Bombers because of the swiftness of deployment the Vetakan Fighters had not been able to have a proper briefing as such this was having to be done in the air:

"All Squadrons this is Poseidon Command form up into attack formation go to full speed and follow Pre-Set Vectors to engage NN fighters currently attempting to destroy our good friends the Wagdog Bombers. Poseidon Fleet will be diving immediatly and moving away from current position to the following Co-Ordinates where all Squadrons are to move to on mission completion. New Co-Ordinates are in safer waters and away from neutral Harvvy and closer to friendly Wagdog Waters once all fighters are RTC'd we will be out of the fight pending re-fuel and re-stealth operations. Do all Squad leaders understand?"

A string of rogers came a reply from the Squadron Leaders as they roared towards the Wagdog Bombers and the enemy fighters that where trying to run them down. Back at the Carriers the Landing Strips retracted and the Submarine Fleet dived again leaving the waters just as calm and as peaceful as before they arrived.

This was the first real mission the Submarine fleet had taken on and everybody especially the pilots where alittle bit weary after all they had just gone from one extreme to another:

"Wagdog Bomber Leader this is Typhoon 1 of the SSCVGB we are a 150 Strong Eurofighter Typhoon Force Can you hear me? We are inbound now to clear your six ETA at present Speed 6 Minutes. Request Situation Update? Can you hold out now till our arrival?" a very upper class Squadron Leader spoke.

It was only then that a very down to earth Second Squadron Leader shouted over the Radio:

"Hold on Wagdog Babies we coming to safe you. I intend to personally get as many of you back as possible as a result the Beer is on you? 1 month in a tin carrier equals no Booze"

"Sierra Hotel! We read you five-by and it's about time too!" Major Daniel Rendish exulted like the proverbial dead-man-living he felt he was at the moment. "Our odds just went from bupkas once our fuel got too low to something not totally hideous after all. We'll concentrate on running; plus, I think you guys should get some help right about..."

Su-27K Seahorse 1
"You mean now, zoomie?" Colonel Angela Larissie of the WRBMC 1st Carrier Air Wing off of the UWS Ernesto 'Che' Guevara de la Serna quipped both sultrily and sardonically. "Of course. And what's better, in bigger numbers than somebody in HQ thought to send our guests' way too." In fact, the combined force mustered some 65 aircraft to add to the 150 Vetakan Eurofighters; 40 Su-27K Flankers, 20 Yak-41M Freestyles, and 5 An-71 Madcap AWACS under Flanker escorts. "You have any idea what a girl might just have a right to ask for after a favor like this?" The rakish dirty-blonde (under her flight helmet) guessed the ribaldry wouldn't work, but anything to rib an Army Air Force pilot was worth it to the Marine Aviation Division's own. And as a veteran of the Strator Campaign despite not making any dogfight kills back in her old F-6B-2 Farmer, still painted with her trademark “bloody lavender” WINGCOM stripes in the museum now that her Flanker carried them over its graceful metal “back” of sorts, she would do her part for Marine honor.
"Now baby, first let's try saving my butt before you talk like that about it anymore, OK?" Rendish wasn't going to stoop so low as actually being rude to his female backup, but there was still Army Air Force pride to uphold after all. "Hey! Why not get some action from your own kind, anyway?" His skepticism reflected a keen sense of what the Brass were thinking, borne out when the AWACS piped in.
"Cut the chatter, people. You've got two-three-niner confirmed Viper Zeroes to down with extreme prejudice before they do the same to you or our bombers. At minimum, hold them for some 5 more minutes and the bombers can escape from enemy overtake range at current escape speeds." The lead AWACS Ocarina 1 succinctly restored order before the banter gave away too much by being intercepted somehow by the enemy. "Strip and engage to prosecute MIGCAP upon finding the range. Good hunting."
Accelerating still more, Seahorse One opined. "Fine; maybe I should save myself for that hunk in the Vetakan Second Squadron anyway. How's about we climb into the fireworks, eh boys?" She led the loose vic of some 30 Flankers and 20 Freestyles (10 Flankers keeping distance to maintain escort for the control planes and pitch in from BVR), down on the deck at just over Mach 1. "First shot goes to the guests of honor! Anybody tally-ho yet?" And with that, she lit burner for the low approach before their maneuver to hit the Nicks from below, an approach most Soviet fighters had an advantage in compared to Western or (in this case) Japanese designs like the F-2As they were facing...

You all might've figured this out, but when I mention "War Office CINC" I'm referring to General Secretary Horridus himself. Also, is it acceptable to introduce storefront-timed purchases from RL days/NS years ago into fluid time? I figured the ABMs would fly since it's been a few months or so ICly since this all started IIRC, and I could sense I'd need them fairly early in the Zanski Crisis given the n00k-waving going on:rolleyes:; but these two orders are much more massive (basically whole new Army-sets of weapons/supplies and 10 l33t nuclear-powered battleships; all built abroad so my factories could focus on supplies/spares/attrition-replacements), and thus deserve appropriately more caution before just declaring "in service" even if their combined delivery period times out later today. I have other naval repair and reserve training/mobilization work to do anyway, so the consensus answer won't affect this post specifically so much as the ones to come.

"Final Checks Confirmed Complete. Typhoon 1 All Units we have all fought on the battlefield previously however we have never fought as the Typhoons we are more than capable. Remember wingman consideration during combat." replied Typhoon 2.

"Ok This is it. Multiple inbound. Evasive Action. For Vetaka!!!! For the Dominion!!! For Wagdog!!!" shouted a now serious Typhoon 2

The Typhoons broke formation and immediatly began evasive action. Typhoon 1 shook the missile locked up and enemy and fired he was immediatly followed by his Second in Command Typhoon 2:

As the battle began to gather pace the radio became awash of Typhoons of different numbers shouting Fox Two. Vetaka's OBSAT System had been rigged up to allow Typhoon 1 the ability to have real time access to his forces losses. OBSAT was tracking all Typhoon Fighters when one was downed:

"All Squadron Leaders 25 Down. Repeat 25 Down. Ok People we are doing well. Wagdog Bombers time to go go. Cya Soon Baby" shouted Typhoon 2

"Typhoon 1 you can think about wooing her later. Right now will you kill that fucker on my six the bastards took down 10 of ours." Shouted Typhoon 1

OOC: OK NN, since part of my fighters' strategy in this sub-battle is to disrupt the Sparrows' guidance by killing the thirty (right? three squads times... how many planes per squad?) fighters painting the bombers, this is a sub-dogfight separate from the engagement with the Vetakans now. To do my losses realistically, I'll keep the missiles homing in from max range until you RP how many of the illuminating fighters were shot down by defending fighters. You might want to address ECCM performance of your missiles, since I'm going full bells-and-whistles here.:D

Tu-160M Blackjack-B Screaming Meemie
"Hold on to your butts! We have MAJOR Sparrows inbound, two-three-niner under semiactive guidance by estimated three-zero Viper Zeroes, and these little birds sure don't look happy..." Daniel Rendish alerted his crew and the 29 other bombers as he pushed the massive swept-wing airframe as fast as she would ever run this low down. "Let's make 'em sing to OUR music now, eh!?" With that suggestion, the bomber's EWO 1st Lieutenant Chloe Mersewhite cued the bomber's equally-massive ECM suite to both dump chaff and jam the fighter's and missiles' radars; preferably, until the enemy pilots went mad from all the glitches their radars should be reading once the other 29 bombers did the same. Meanwhile, the 60 Wagdoggie naval fighters sent to aid the Vetakans sprang into action...

Su-27K Seahorse 1
Damn! Col. Larissie figured something like this would happen. Figures. Forcing us to split between helping the Vetakans or covering our bombers. Fine; we'll still kill 'em all! She then issued her orders.
"Hey everyone, eyes front and LISTEN UP! Freestyles plus VMF-2/CVMW-2 Flankers break at high Mach and engage Viper Zeroes painting the bombers. Everyone else, you're with me; it's SHOWTIME!"
Yanking her Flanker skyward into a 45* afterburner climb towards the enemy far above, she switched on her six R-27AE Alamo-E active-radar missiles, the latest variant of what had started as a SARH missile much like the Sparrows the Nicks were using but then been developed into something more like AMRAAM or (most of all) Active Skyflash; locking up six most-unfortunate Viper Zeroes and firing all at once. Multiply this by 30 Flankers doing the same within seconds, and 180 Nicksyllvanian fighters were now under heavy attack from below. As soon as impact time was nearing, Col. Larissie reached maximum R-73ME Archer range and didn't hesitate to use her helmet sight and send the first off-boresight shot away; towards an offending Nicksyllvanian fighter harassing a Vetakan Eurofighter. You say you war is with Communism and yet you hurt our capitalist friends with the same gusto, eh? Meh, that's fascism for you. The furball was now well and truly on as the Wagdoggie Flankers joined the frezny their Vetakan allies had started...

Su-27K Albatros 1
Major Michael Ambrose pushed his Flanker as fast as it could go at current altitude, being just over the Mach at sea level, and he already had lock on the Vipers targeting his forces' unfortunate Blackjacks; those egressing fast enough to burn out their fuel soon if this battle wasn't ended fast enough. And that doesn't even touch the missiles inbound.
But within seconds, he was ready; six enemy fighters tracked, prioritized and locked onto at once out of a maximum capability for ten for his fighter's Zhuk-1 radar. "Tone good, all missiles locked; MULTIPLE FOX ONES OUTBOUND!" He loosed six Alamo-Es at once and they sped after their separate targets. And not only did the thirty Vipers on the Blackjacks' tails need to deal with 60 inbound Alamo-Es from the 10 Sukhois once those all shot, nor the 40 more sent in by the Yakovlev VTOL fighters as well; but also whatever short-range ordnance had to be used once the range closed that far. Major Ambrose thought pragmatically, Let's just hope it doesn't have to, for the bombers' sakes...

OOC @ TWSP: Not so far, but thanks.:D You've got CP et. al. to worry about, and although I'd help you if it comes to that (Vetaka left CP's alliances since he saw how far they've fallen into just commie-bashing clubs by now), naturally this war comes first since I doubt NN is ICly inclined towards mercy anymore and I'm in so long as the Lone Alliance is. My pending orders arrived last night OOCly speaking and although I gave him the chance to, so far NN hasn't objected (if he did, logically I could call him on any purchases he invokes, so I doubt he will). My forces are re-equipping already, older stuff going to the Marines either actively or in-reserve, and my new battleships should be able to take part in a most l33t little IC-surprise naval/bomber offensive to smack down a little invasion of... somewhere friendly to me (probably me, but I can't rule out Vetaka either). In sum, just keep up your economic support along with those other GUSN members not actually fighting (i.e. not Northern Baltic) and I think the IC-socialists and their capitalist allies can school the IC-fascists again:p , only this time without a World War resulting. Hopefully...

OOC: A Nicksyllvanian Squad is 12 fighters, although not all of the squads are at full strength thanks to the naval battle.

The 31 planes tailing the bombers kept illuminating the bombers for the semi-active missiles, effectively making the missiles immune to chaff.

"What the fuck, my Radars Jammed."
"Same."

19 of the fighters were caught in the ETC radius, as well as a good 70 missiles. Missiles took down 17 of the fighters, however the 14 fighters with working radars managed to keep a fair portion of the enemy bombers illuminated for impact.

"Fire off the sidewinders and let's head home."

The 14 remaining fighters fired off 112 sidewinders indiscriminately towards the communists. Being heatseaking they did not have to babysit the missiles, although it was easy to counter such missiles.

-----------------------------

32 Fighters in the larger airgroup went down to various hits, 4 were heavily damaged and were turning back for repairs. One of the pilots recognized he didn't have enough fuel to make it back, desperately flew his plane forward in an attempt to perhaps take out a communist fighter with it's cannons, or even to ram one if it can.

"Confirmation of 25 kills sir"
"Enemy within 50km and closing..."
"Fire all Sidewinders and head back to base for resupply."
The Captain knew it was futile as the Viper Zeros had inferior cannons and close combat capabilities. He wished the Airforce was it's own seperate branch insetad of being divided between the army and the airforce, maybe then there might be a larger budget for more effective fighters then these foreign based ones.

Good sir, my nation, though small, would like to help in your on going war effort which seems as if it is being fought on multiple fronts. Thusly, we wish to donate 20,000 RAPIER SMG's to outfit any Pilots, or CQB soldiers with. We would provide more, though we lack the resources.

"AWACS Conch One here; WTF is going on PEOPLE? We have eleven... twelve... fourteen bombers down and enemy fighters still engaging the survivors with 'winders now. All fighters, DESTROY the enemy NOW! I want all of you Winchester by the time you get back, hear?" The An-71 Madcap driver seemed close to apoplexy at the situation as it stood now...
Col Larissie didn't have time to answer. What's with this guy? A Nicksyllvanian fighter was barrelng toward her like a kamikaze or such. So, 'law of the gun, eh? Well, those who live by the law of the gun... She pulled her fighter up into a Pugachev's Cobra, HARD; and then reversed it with a Split-S as the Nicksyllvanian Viper Zero rolled around desperately looking for another mark to suicide-ram or gun (or both). ...get killed by those who live by the law of the missile! She locked her helmet sight onto the Viper and let fly with her second-to-last Archer. The range was so close that impact was virtually assured.
But she didn't have time to look; there was one more Archer weighing her wings down, and she saw the Nicks withdrawing now as the Vetakans had made clear this was a "Victory or Death" moment for them. What? Going so soon? Wasn't it good for you and all? With that, she found another Viper Zero and flung a missile its way, again to well-within impact distance from the Viper barring a technical fault in the warhead somehow. She then broadcast, "Fair work Seahorse, Albatros, Gull, Cormorant..." the four Flanker squadrons involved in this scrap; Seahorse and Albatros miraculously all-intact, but Gull and Cormorant with an integrity-threatening seven losses each if about three fighters between them didn't manage to make for the carriers as they were now. "...Pelican, Flying Fish, Sandpiper, Lark." The four Freestyle Squadrons had all suffered, but only about 2-3 losses per squadron; making a total of some 24 losses for the WRBMC fighters all told in this battle, maybe as just 19 if all the damaged fighters made it back safely. Even that was bad enough, a fifth of both First and Fifth Fleet's combined fighter cover in this Zanski Theater. "...The enemy's withdrawing from the combat area. Fire off all missiles @ retreating fighters and then make for the carriers once the Vetakans do. Let's show them they're not the only ones honoring that oath of theirs..." As about 75 miscellaneous Archers leapt their rails after the retreating Viper Zeroes, Col. Larissie's tone was despondently flat; for she couldn't help remembering the immortal words of the late King Pyrrhus of Epirus:
"One more such victory, and we are utterly undone!"

Tu-160M Blackjack-B Screaming Meemie
It was all over. Surely, yes. Major Rendish's career, the lives of some 56 of of his friends or associates whose 14 bombers got pounced upon by practically ten times their number in Sparrow missiles, and maybe those too of the 3 critically injured from two more Sidewinder-stricken bombers whose crews ejected. Please, God... Wagdog was officially-secular, but that was a far more liberal policy on religion than many officially-atheist communist states enforced. Please let that BDA say we PWNED those fascist tubs before they got into port! Whatever the disadvantages of hanging one's self-worth on a battle damage assessment for a bombing raid, there it was in the case of Major Rendish. Now there was only the lonely path to refuelling, home, and whatever form the End might take.

Su-27K Albatros 1
Major Ambrose saw the enemy fighters guiding in their Sparrows as the rest of the Alamo-E's he'd fired went wide of their marks. Damn! he thought, for he knew none of the crews on those 14 bombers were going to survive as the first of ten-odd Sparrows per bomber started impacting without mercy and in-series; soon pounding each formerly-majestic Blackjack to so much falling scrap traveling at Mach 1 and slowing. You... are... NOT GETTING AWAY! He flung all four of his Archer's in sequence at a Nicksyllvanian flight he'd managed to corner with a deft Immelman, then maneuvered for a gun kill on a wounded Viper before his wingmen shouted, "Sir, SIDEWINDERS! BREAK! BREAK!"
He cut off his burners and broke hard, dropping all the flares he had and just barely managing to shake the trail of some four Mike-model Sidewinders that had been tailing him. Something to brag about, especially compared to the overall fate of the bombers. Once Major Ambrose took stock of his own losses as the Archers should've been hitting the Nicksyllvanian Viper Zeroes, he satisfied himself with a broadcast. "Well, we saved some. Nice job keeping the enemy off us guys, but next time try keeping them off the objective instead. Back to the barn."
He set course for his carrier and didn't look back at the horror visible at the 16 stricken bombers' watery graves. Hopefully the outbound squadrons of Fulcrums returning from Zanski would soon be able to escort the SAR helos in at least...

General Secretary Carolinus Horridus rarely indulged spammers. But in this case, help should not be dismissed. Not least if it gives the enemy another target to invade once they find out...
That morbid thought reflected his views now on the state of the war, with a stalemate in Zanski now that the capture of the King seemed to have failed and ACTO members thinking of jumping in on Nicksyllvania's side. I WON'T let that butcher playboy Kang and his allies in the Imperial Empire start a damned world war over me! No. Way. In. Hell! Horridus remembered his strengths, for he had to concentrate on them in the name of Operation Kenobi soon to come; hopefully, soon too to remind ACTO just what sort of combined-arms force they might be dealing with after all if they chose to put their arms where their mouths were, namely a far cry from the usual stereotype of the Army-centric and inflexible "Communist" military.
Hence, this response was sent to Ganj's offer...
From: Gen. Sec. Carolinus Horridus, USSW
To: Alexander Brock
Your offer is intriguing, but we need more information. What are the broad specifications of this weapon? Does it have a pistol counterpart? Is it a PDW or a normal SMG?
Oh this is an interesting offer, for sure; although I'm not so sure we could adopt it for our military as such, unless it can use standard Soviet 9x18mm or 5.45x18mm ammunition. Whatever the cartridge, might RAPIER be suitable for guerrilla cells and technical drivers in the event we need a popular resistance force against invasion? If so, we'd be willing to purchase as many as five million, with extra payment to ensure secure and swift shipping.

The USSW War Office noted the launch and naval preparations via OBSAT, and Defense Secretary Iliescu informed the General Secretary. "By your command..."
"Do it." General Secretary Horridus dispensed with any formalities. There was no point in wasting even the few minutes' time before the Lone Alliance's cluster ICBMs impacts to at least be en route to Nicksyllvanian waters. "Operation Kenobi is a go."
"Indeed." The vampire then turned to the service heads and repeated. "You heard him, gentlemen. Let's get to work..."

Waters around USSW Fourth Fleet and VDF Second Battlegroup...
Commodore Habib Balsarno had to admit, for such an old-fashioned layout as the Borodino-class "Baltic Dreadnought" schematic, the derivative Wagdoggie Bone class BBN (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12431198&postcount=222) sure packed some firepower to make the appearances deceptive. Provided in the design were 12 18"/50 guns in four triples, eight AK-130s in four twins abreast the funnels, no fewer than eight combined gun/missile Kashtans for point defense on pedestal mounts behind each main turret and backed up by a Kirov's radar suite to guide S-300F or -400F SAMs fired by escorts, 14" homogeneous belt armor to resist at least modernized King George V-BB or large cruiser guns from all angles, 24 SS-N-19 Shipwreck missiles in casemated launch tubes where on an older BB guns would be (in installations not unlike sideways versions of the Oscar class SSGN's, actually), plus six 650mm torp tubes and the full sonar rig of a Kirov CGN to provide decent ASW capability; not to mention the full propulsion rig of an Ul'yanovsk carrier to propel all this at some 30 knots max, and a helipad aft to at least carry ASW or utility choppers even if a hangar couldn't be crammed into the old layout. In short, a thoroughly modern capital combatant out of an old design; if at the price of being fully a third larger in dimensions and more than twice the displacement of the original Borodino design.
"And we're throwing six of these at the enemy..." Four being held in reserve for Second and Third Fleets under repair, with First and Fifth Fleets far enough away in Zanski to make sparing the needed escorts to send their share of the ten BBNs delivered from the World Soviet Party's shipyards over there hardly worth the risks involved; to either those ships and their 2500 crew each or this mission. "This should be one interesting battle if the Nicksyllvanians try to close the range on us, since now we at least have a chance if they try." And so the BBNs led by this vessel, the UWS Bone itself, continued the course to meet up with the fleet; already under fleet air cover just in case. Then, to a mission that would certainly usher in a new phase of the war; if not decide it right now.

OOC: Nicksyllvania I've launched two ICBMs at your harbor. They should enter your nation within minutes at high altitude where they will explode, scattering over 100 cluster bombs that will then themselves open up revealing up to 1000 bomblets. All which will rain down on your harbor.
You can get some of them but there are few weapon systems that can sucessfully take them all down.

Grand Admiral Teran Suthonang knew that this was the most important moment of his several decades in the Red Banner Navy. But to a good end, or bad? Ah, there was the rub.
"OBSAT Linkup on." A techie said. "Your showtime sir!"
"Indeed. Are you sure we should be so cautious Comrade?" The Grand Admial was hoping for a Pearl Harbor here, and perhaps more if the Lone Alliance were serious about invasion of Nicksyllvania itself. "A full invasion would put us within easy striking distance of the enemy's capital."
"Indeed." General Secretary Carolinus Horridus acknowledged the obvious, of course. "But it could also send this war over the edge. Defense before attack, people. Let's cripple their invasion fleet first, and secure air/naval superiority over the area before we get too ambitious. As is, OBSAT indicates some heavy defenses on those islands; and although we have no concrete intelligence that the straits between them are mined, it's probably a safe assumption they are until further notice."
"Very well, Comrade." At least all that time we spent keeping 4th Marine Division over here, while the Fleet was patrolling at sea, helped them get up-to-speed on that Czechalrussian stuff we diverted from Army shipments for just this sort of occasion. Now that Third Fleet and 3rd Marine Division are back in commission and also upgraded, any landing in Nicksyllvania should at least have a better chance than before... That thought, the Grand Admiral got the OBSAT-compatible secure terminal and typed the following message to all allied forces...

"Attention, Attention, 2 ICBMs inbound. Determining the target by trajectory... Nickon, repeat Nickon is likely target by 90%. Course of action sir?"
"Only 2? Probably not a nuclear attack, however, notify Strategic Missile Command. Activate the Anti-Ballistic Missile Defence system in the Nickon Administrative area and sound the alarm."

144 Long range exoatmospheric interceptor missiles (conventional warhead) were fired at the incoming targets taking down 1 ICBM.

The other got through and spread 1 million bomblets along the harbour. Although no ships were sunk, there was extensive damage to radar and missile systems and other top mounted parts of the ships.

-------------------------------------------

"It's quite obvious that any invasion they procede with will be futile. We will easily massacre them along the beaches, especially if the navy manages to fail, AGAIN. Not to mention our powerful coastal batteries and airpower will wipe out any naval support they have."
"And that would result in their immediate retreat, Stratarch. Thus meaning they will save the vast majority of their forces. Generalissmo, may I instead suggest that we weaken our coastal defences, allow the Communists to establish a bridgehead and reinforce it fully, then through a decisive naval battle through a 2 pronged attack as well as support from ground based aircraft we will annihilate their combined navies, and prevent their armies from recieving any supplies wiping out any forces they landed in their attempt to capture our capital, significantly hurting their overall military power."
"What? Allow the communist scum to gain a foothold of our sacred soil?"
"They would then land enormous armies which will be rendered useless once we cut off their supply line. Allowing our own invasion to progress much more smoothly. Hence I ask that we delay our planned assault, place inferior and elderly ships at port in Nickon, and provide inadequate number of divisions to defend the front line. If you show them even a sliver of weakness they will attempt to exploit it and fall into our trap."
"Just like your Decisive Naval Battle in Zanski water? Face it, you navy folks are all idealists."
"I approve of the plan. Relocate our top ships in Nickon harbour, and replace them with our older ships during the night. We will intentionally lose the coming sea battle and allow them to land and gain a foothold before we strike."
"What? Generalissmo, you approve of the mad bluebelly plot?"
"I seek a decisive victory General, not another grueling war of attrition. The decision is final"

OOC: Fair enough, although you might find an IC surprise waiting for your damaged good ships whatever harbor they run to (and it would need to be close if it's to happen in one night or so...), but some questions.;) First, are we approaching from North or South of you (I guess South, but have no more than instinct to base that on...)? Also, what is the distance between Nickon and the straits those four outlying islands form, plus 200km counting the coastal defenses (standard mobile AShMs you showed me before plus static 21" guns, right?)? Lastly, the names of your other ports and those four islands (the map needs some more detailing as far as the towns go, but do take your time since I know how much even normal posting can take...:headbang:)? These will enable me to put more detail in my plans even if they fundamentally still apply...

Secretary of State Rilir Alárion nós Carthir went up to General Secretary Carolinus Horridus and presented the preliminary OBSAT data. "The enemy is moving, Comrade. Not to attack, we don't think, since their upperworks have been confirmed wrecked by the Lone Alliance cluster ICBMs; but whether this is a complete evacuation or what, and if so to where is uncertain." The Elf was reasonably staid if downcast, seeing as he'd been hoping for a more-decisive outcome to the strike. As was, the Nicksyllvanian revealation of their ABM system came as a rude if not exactly surprising development.
"Then let us make it certain Rilir." Horridus knew from the basic maps of Nicksyllvania that were available what was going to happen; simple logic, plus no small amount of military skill earned in battle itself on his part, dictated this knowledge. "There is only one other port nearby that can accommodate the damaged ships, in Sawatsyllvania; it is there that they must attempt to relocate first. However, since they know this and are doubtless aware that we do as well, let us first blockade the northernmost straits leading to the rest of Nicksyllvanian waters on the other side of their continent, then seal off their nearer escape route to the south. With naval supremacy thus secured, as it will be secured whatever they do with Nickon Harbor, we can make a solid campaign against their three outlying islands first with Vetakan forces while the Lone Alliance musters for the invasion of the mainland once those islands are neutralized." The strategy was the application of the old Marxist saw, 'from Each according to their Ability,' to battle; fair enough, even if unorthodox and thus mixed in with some basic counterintuitive strategic logic.
"Very well sir, I shall order our OBSAT operators in the State Security Reconaissance Office to focus more satellite time and attention on the Sawatsyllvanian port and the outlying islands from Nickon; data for suppression of coastal defenses and strikes on supply dumps and C4ISR sites in Nickon and Sawatsyllvania to be gathered immediately." The elf bowed formally, and then went off to issue the correct orders as General Secretary Horridus met with his service heads and, in a few minutes of discussion, obtained their easy agreement to the plan since it was really quite obvious. The following cable was dispatched to the Wagdoggie-allied forces...

Airbases across Wagdog...
As the surviving 14 Blackjack-B crews from the indecisive raid off Havvy rested, waiting for their next mission yet; their bombers and the 30 others ready (accounting for 10 more kept in strategic reserve with full nuclear loads), prepped for a somewhat different bombing campaign than had been envisioned. At first to be focused as much on anti-ship duties as harbor-busting, now the raid was going to focus at first upon destruction of enemy supplies in Nickon and Sawatsyllvania's port instead. Whatever the enemy did with their fleet, they wouldn't be able to do too much for too long given the hurt Wagdog's bombers were going to lay upon the enemy from behind the fighter cover of the allied combined fleets blockading Olde Nicksyllvania from afar. The load was going to be mostly Kh-555 cruise missiles, 2/3 Kh-555SD submunition variants and 1/3 Kh-555Sh penetrators to wreck upon any C4ISR bunkers OBSAT could identify by the time to fire, some hours hence still...

Roger. Aussie-sized? This should get interesting in terms of force/geography ratios (was that latter-day WWI-style war you fought on your territory, perhaps?) if the Lone Alliance has the sort of invasion force planned I think they do. Anyway, when you see this you should know that my reply to your frontal press will be after Vetaka handles a few things in his next post.
Also, fair warning: I've received some more stuff last OOC-night that should prove useful for my logistical needs; as well as fighters that won't be in commission for an IC month or so (depending on how fast discharged MiG-29/-31/Su-27 pilots could convert to a MiG-1.44 after recall; probably not that fast at all, come to think, even despite known Soviet cockpit systems' standardization wherever possible...). I can recall ex-airline or older-transport pilots for the Antonovs, though, so they can enter service basically right away. If you have purchases of your own to declare, again I certainly will not object to you doing so here or in the Zanski thread.;)

Approaching the Southern Straits of the Takami Islands, some 500km due East...
Commodore Habib Balsarno kept his eyes on the CIC plotting board warily. Though located in the bowels of the ship just under the main superstructure, and surrounded by 14" of steel armor that should shrug off all but the absolute heaviest missiles, he was under far less illusions about what would happen if a Nicksyllvanian battleship got lucky enough with one of their 21" guns close enough. As was, the USSW Fourth Fleet was about to sail into position off the central, largest Takami Isle so they could commit to landing on whichever of the two smaller islands nearby would be seized first. We're out of coastal-defense range for now; but unlike the carriers we in the Battle Squadron can't stay there for long.
Thinking of the carriers, the first of two of the fleet's forty Su-27K Flanker-Ds soared overhead, together with 40 more MiG-29K Fulcrum-Ds and Yak-41M Freestyle-As establishing a BARCAP to keep enemy fighters away from the launch points for the forty Tu-160M Blackjack-Bs already lifting off in Wagdog and inbound. Their orders, a massive cruise-missile strike from long range against both Nickon and Nicksaw ports. The enemy fleet might be able to run or hide (for now), but their supplies and command sites couldn't. So those were what was to be struck this time instead, especially given the uninspiring antiship performance of aerial "missile spams" compared to what had been expected the last few times they'd been tried. And behind those Blackjacks, still working up at various airbases across Wagdog for the coming campaigns efforts both in Nicksyllvania and Zanski, were some 1,000 newly-purchased and arrived An-225s from The World Soviet Party; piloted by recalled and hastily-reoriented reservist pilots under the Red Guard Air Patrol, who mostly served with the Wagging Skies national airline in peacetime...

OOC: Yup, our WWI scenario lasted 21 years and happened all throughout the island which had 4 seperate nations on it. Of coruse once defeated the Nicksyllvanian proceeded to deport the natives to colonies and annex their homeland, except for the Dragkoanians. Our WW2 scenario occured in the north with the Dragkonanians where both sides built massive Maginot line style defences, with no holes, in the end it was massive land tanks that managed to break the defences and the industrial superiority of NN. So our land doctrine went into a completely seperate path.
Nicksyllvania ICly don't buy foreign goods as they are "inferior" to NN made goods, but have no qualms with taking ideas.

As Admiral Dennis Renstrar of the USSW Fourth Fleet read the Lone Alliance encrypted brief, he knew it was time. "Comms, get our subs on the horn and tell them the op is go; they can get their missiles in play. For now, all fighters concentrate on BARCAP duty for our bombers about to shoot their cruise missiles off. Everything else has to wait until the cruise missile strikes subside and we have some degradation of coastal defenses before we move to land Third and Fourth Marine Divisions on South and North Takami Islands, respectively; then under final protective fire from more cruise missiles and our battleships. Carry on..."
As Lieutenant Commander Stephanie Bluntfang quipped "Yes Sir," the tawny and lanky girl being a model officer despite the accommodations her werecougar nature required, Admiral Rensar then returned to the plotting board of the carrier UWS Nicolae Ceauçescu's Combat Information Center, watching as the first outbound missile tracks lighted when their corresponding missiles broke the water and flew towards the enemy island's defenses, and as the first fighters took off from their carriers' decks to assume patrols outside enemy SAM range to bar Nicksyllvanian fighters any path towards the bombers those on deck could just make out approaching over the horizon. Approaching with most deadly intent towards the ports of Nickon and Nicksaw, and the enemy command and logistical facilities therein; vital to coordinating resistance to the Lone Alliance landing on the other side of the continent from Wagdog and Vetaka's combined forces this side.

Coastal 32mm cannons fired at the incoming cruise missiles, although few were destroyed as they were low flying and evaded radar for the most part. Although Nicksyllvanian structures in the port were all drab concrete buildings with most of the room underground, satelite imagery easily picked out supply dumps by the supply trucks bringing in material, although the command bunkers were more difficult to pick out, the occasional car rather then truck heading for a building usually meant someone of important status. Numerous supply depots were hit, a few barracks were destroyed causing large casualties, and a communications hub was also destroyed.

Numerous ships were destroyed, mostly old vessels that were due for mothballing while a couple new ships that hadn't been relocated yet were destroyed or heavily damaged.

100 Cruise missiles fired back at the Wagdoggie Fleet from the Takami Islands, the attack was intended to be limited, and hopefully would trick the Wagdoggians into believing the island defences were weaker then they actually were.

Dug Deep within the Mountains it was highly protected and defended from virtually any threat as a result it was not surprising that OBSAT Space Command was named as the base Vetaka would be ruled from in the aftermath of an Apocolyptic Style situation.

Commander James Alan was the Base Commander and was somewhat nervous when he was called into the Command Room to take a Call from President Scarlet Rogers herself:

"Good Morning Madame-President"

Commander Alan listened to his Supreme Commanding Admiral in Chief intently his smile turned to a nervous expression before turning to a computer and punching a number of buttons on a keyboard he then spoke back into the Phone:

"Authorized. Pre-Set Targets Confirmed. Yes Madame-President. Good Bye Ma'am"

As far as Vetaka was concerned the situation had gone on long enough Excalibur was warming.

Vetakan 2rd Naval Battlegroup, Lead Minesweeper Little Bug, Suspected NN Naval Mine Field, Close to Southern Most Takami Island:

Before the Vetakan Deployment to Wagdog to help one of its most valued allies had been made the Vetakan High Command had butted heads as to Whether or not to deploy Minesweepers to the campaign. The arguement fought was bitterly and Admiral Hornblower had been successful in securing Minesweeper support he had argued the simple fact that Vetaka had Sweepers so why keep them out of the fight. Now all the Admiral could do was smile. In total 8 had been deployed and now they took up position ready to plough the road for the Advancing Vetakan-Wagdog Invasion Forces:

"Little-Bug to Flagship we are in position beginning to Plough the Road now Admiral"

"Roger that Little-Bug. Proceed as Ordered" replied a Comms Officer aboard the Flagship.

The Osprey Minesweepers quickly proceeded to the suspected field they had been correct their was a Field no problem the Ospreys quickly began to search, detect and destroy the mines. At the same time Vetakan Eurafighters from one of its Carriers took off and sped towards the Southern Most Takami Island. Vetakan Intel believed Enemy Airpower could be located on the Island as a result supported by Cruise Missiles fied from the Fleet Vetakan Airpower was to engage and destroy any and all Military Force on the Island. Although the Target was the Pilots choice it had been stressed that anything that looked Civilian was to be left. Vetaka altough wanted to defeat its Enemy it also had a duty of care to protect innocent civilians from undue harm.

Palace of the Revolution, Tailville DR
Back down in the bunker complex, General Secretary Horridus grinned malevolently as he received signals that indicated Vetaka's Excalibur system was readying itself. His own orders over the secure phone ran thusly, "Charge all batteries; load preset targets and prepare to fire at will upon my command..." Soon things were going to turn quite sharply in this war, one way or another. There shall be a decision soon. If our skill tells, ours... Horridus hoped, even though means to recover from some unforeseen trap existed should the Allies fail anyway. It would just mean that much longer and harder a war, is all...

199km Off North Takami
Upon reading confirmation of the Vetakans' minesweeping south by OBSAT datalink, Fourth Fleet Admiral Renstrar wasted no time ordering, "Hard to starboard, circle around and head south at all-ahead flank to catch up with the Vetakan fleet. We've just faked the enemy out everyone, and now we're going for the jugular!" The revised orders accomanying the downlink had been simple:
EAM EMERGENCY ACTION MESSAGE
TO: USSW COM4THFLT
FROM: USSW WAR OFFICE CINC
ATTACK ON TAKAMIS CANCELLED AS PER DIVERSIONARY OPERATIONS.-STOP-
MOVE OUT TO FOLLOW SOUTHERN ROUTE TO ASSAULT NICKON HARBOR, ADVANCE UPON NICKOGRAD; END THIS WAR.-FULL STOP-

Of course, the 100 incoming cruise missiles were a problem nontheless. However, the usual barrage of S-400F/Kinzhal/Kortik missiles backed up by Kashtan combined CIWS for last ditch work slaughtered the vast majority of this really small-scale strike. Still, three picket Neustrashimys were ultimately sunk and one was scuttled after its crew evacuated to the Assault Ships by helicopter. Still, the essence of the mission: the battleships and the marines they supported, were all intact and now sailing southwest at flank speed to rendezvous with the Vetakan fleet and begin the storming of Nicksyllvania. Well, this side of Nicksyllvania, anyway...

Brief OOC: So far my ORBAT is unchanged from my first OOC post, aside from the lost/damaged frigates earlier, and another round of cruise missiles totalling 120 (10 from 10 Akula IIs and 20 from 5 Oscar IIs) is inbound on Nickon only now; again half-submunition against troop/vehicle positions and half-penetrators for busting coastal defenses.
IC
UWS Nicolae Ceauçescu; Ul'yanovsk class CVN and Flagship, USSW Fourth Fleet and USSW Combined Fleet Nicksyllvania
It was beginning now. The Vetakan 2nd Battlegroup's fleet was just visible ahead, and the CIC data panels showed clearly the white lines marking the corridor for the fleet's safe passage. It's formation was somewhat squashed compared to normal, but still had the cruisers and destroyers running picket duty on the outside while one of the frigates minimum escorted each vessel in the group. The stately battleships led the inside of the formation in a loose vic, while the carriers trailed that and the amphibious vessels trailed the carriers in turn. Beneath the pounding waves, the weather being appropriately portentous for such a day as this, the Akula attack subs led the formation on point; listening for their prey while the Oscar missile subs trailed the amphibious ships as rearguard for the fleet.
Contemplating this majesty from his mind, disdaining the trite symbology the CIC plotting board reduced it to even if such was perhaps necessary in the utiltiarian sense, Admiral Renstrar went up to the comms officer with one purpose in mind. This is this vessel's last voyage under this name, before one of those nice 'Tri Svyatitelya' supers takes it up after her. Let's make her swansong a good one...
"Staff Lieutenant, give me the Vetakan fleet on actual, please." It might be archaic, but statements like what he had to say simply must have a voice behind them to mean a damn.
"Yes sir... Acquired now. You're on." The senior lieutenant could guess what was coming, and for once didn't care if the enemy intercepted it. Better if they do, I say. That way they'll know we mean business here.
"To our allies in the Second Vetakan Battlegroup, this is Ceauçescu-actual; Admiral Renstrar commanding Wagdoggie Fourth Fleet and Wagdoggie Combined Fleet Nicksyllvania or WCFN. At last, our long struggle against the tyrant's allies who so foolishly attacked us off of Zanski enters its decisive phase. More than just the fate of our nations rests on this moment; verily, the fate of every progressive nation whom some might deem 'communist', and move to strike down for whatever reason real or imaginary to justify said assertion, depends on this battle. Accordingly, the People expect that every man and woman shall do their duty.
To defend this, we are now embarked upon a great crusade not to destroy; and certainly not to conquer, but merely to compel for ourselves by prowess of arms that same respect from our enemy that every nation, of every ideology and economy, is due; so long as it conducts itself with the responsibility inherent to sovereignty. The Imperial Socialist Empire of Greater New Nicksyllvania, we affirm, has failed to do this; and as such shall only receive this respect from us once it resumes its responsibilities and ceases all acts of aggression against progressive peoples and collusion with slavery or genocide. Until this time, they shall know that we shall pay any price in battle, bear any burden of succor, support any friend in alliance, and oppose any foe the Empire may dragoon into its hopeless quagmire with false promises of victory, to ensure the survival and success of Progress in our time. Even Social Democracy is not perfect, as those who either practice or criticize it know well, and Revolution has always had its problems; but at the end of the day, none of those assembled for this mission ever had to reintroduce serfdom to keep our people working. Good luck, everyone; and so say we all."

Seaspace around USSW Combined Third and Fourth Fleets
As if in tune with Admiral Renstrar's speech, the first of the cruise missiles again broke the waters from the submarines and sped towards the defenses of Nickon, as the battleships began to swivel their turrets for the still-possible eventuality the nearby coastal defenses of the Southern Takamis decided to shoot back for some (dumb) reason. The Vetakan fighters attacking even now were likely to handle them well-enough, but a good speech was no reason to become overconfident of course...

WTF??? Is this. Why do you put made up wars in forums??
OOC: B/C NationStates doesn't have a war feature, and so those players desiring to have their countries fight it out over whatever reason(s) roleplay the conflict(s) here; either in International Incidents or the other (and older) NationStates forum proper. It's not for everyone, and some players skip the forums or threads where this happens entirely. Your choice, but if you don't mind there are stickies that can answer your questions both better and more conveniently elsewhere than we can here. Thanks.:)

Vetakan 2rd Battlegroup Flagship White-Phoenix, South of Takami Islands:

"Admiral Sir Audio Communication from the Wagdog Admiral!" reported the Comms Officer

"Roger that lets hear them" replied the Admiral

What happened next highly embarrssed the Vetakan Chief Admiral. The White-Phoenix was fitted with a Diplomatic Comms System that had now been wrongly wired into the OBSAT network a feature of such a system was that backing music could be added to a speaking voice the backing music could be vocal or none vocal. The Admiralty had been hostile towards the idea of fitting such a system but the Foreign Affairs Department had inisisted upon a move. Anyhow because the Diplomatic Comms System was wired into OBSAT it for some reason identified the Wagdog Audio Message as a Diplomatic Communication and played a very ironic bit of backing music as the Wagdog Admiral began to speak this music was called "Hope for Freedom" by Keiki Kobayashi it had been made famous by its use on the popular game Ace Combat as a result it caused havoc on the bridge of the White Phoenix. Admiral Hornblower pressed the Isolate button and roared:

"Turn that Damn Music. Fucking Off"

"I can't Sir its that sodding Diplomatic Comms System the Foreign Office installed. It has to play out." replied the Comms Officer.

"Fuck Sake we are the International Laughing Stock. As soon as it finishes shut the system off. I am going to personally throttle the Foreign Secretary." replied the Angry Admiral.

Now that the Wagdog Admiral had finished. Admiral Hornblower returned the Audio Message ensuring that the Diplomatic System was off:

"Here Here Ceauçescu Admiral. I Chief Admiral of the Navy of the Dominion of Vetaka fully support and compliment the words of my Ally and Friend. Let this be an example to every nation, leader and person of this planet. Political Ideology matters not. The Dominion of Vetaka is a Capitalist Nation at heart and the The United Socialist States of Wagdog is a Socialist One. Yet our two nations have forged a Friendship that is so strong and is more powerful than any weapon that can be employed on this Battlefield. I speak on behalf of every Vetakan Citizen around the world when I say it matters not of what Political Ideology you follow what matters is the desire to be true, accepting, peaceful and above all Freedom. I speak for every Vetakan Citizen when I say Freedom is one thing worth fighting for. We sail to Nickon today not to not to destroy; and certainly not to conquer, not even to impose freedom upon the people but to defend the sovereign right for other nations to enjoy the Bounty of Freedom. I speak for every Vetakan Citizen and I am sure every Wagdog Citizen when I say For Wagdog!!! For Vetaka and above All For Freedom!!! It is time. Good Luck!!!"

The Bridge of the White-Phoenix and much of the people within the Vetakan Fleet both Sailors and Soilders had fallen into a Silence as the Vetakan Admiral had spoken. Even the attacking fighters had claimed to higher alttitude to listern to Hornblower speak. Feeling immense sense of pride each of them repeated the Vetakan National Phrase to themselves:

"For Vetaka!!!! For the Dominion!!!! For Freedom!!!!"

Orel Ul'yanovsk CVN and Flagship UWS Nicolae Ceauçescu, Due West of Takami Islands...
As word of the peace deal in the Moxim Road Declaration came in, that settled matters for the Wagdoggie fleet. We were grandiloquent on the way in, so why not be simple on the way out, eh? Admiral Renstrar figured that would be best, so as neither to top his would've been 'invasion speech' nor hang around Nicksyllvanian waters longer than absolutely necessary.
"Get me the Vetakan Fleet actual, Comms." Once he received comfirmation of this, he summarized simply. "Our thanks to your help in this endeavor; especially since it managed to achieve its objective without actual invasion being necessary. You are all worthy allies and good friends; I know, this world being what it is, we'll meet on seas of battle like this again. And I'll be glad to see you there every time, surely. Until then, this is both the USSW Third and Fourth Fleets, Combined Fleet Nicksyllvania, signing off. Fair seas and skies to you; and thanks for clearing the way out of any trash too."
With that quip, the Wagdoggie fleet lazily swung around and headed east, through the mineswept corridor for home. After some rest and refit, the fleet would emerge an all-new force VASTLY superior in equipment and capability to what it was even now; which was nothing to be ignored surely. They might see action in the Kawaiian Refugee Situation, or any of myriad possible international blowups that could drag Wagdog in at any time. But for now, their job was done and peace secured; whatever the enemy chose to think about the matter for themselves...
