Beyond the New Frontier

The Union of Sharona

Out beyond the new frontier, deep in the blackness of the endless void, a trio of relatively tiny vessels float. Below them lies a pristine world, as yet untouched by man or machine. On this world, an anomaly once thought unique has been found. A temporal gate, nearly 50 miles across, well into the class 8 category, has been discovered. Other, smaller gates are also noted, but ignored in favor of the larger and more viable Class 8 chain. Already portal forts were springing up across the surface, and more ships were being drawn towards the planet. While it may have seemed a useless place, was made more useful by its possession of a gate cluster to rival Hell's Gate. With the influx of men and ships, Ternathian Marines and Arpathian Scouts, there was also an increasded risk of discovery. For the next 5 days, there would be only 2 paltry destroyers and a single Carrier to cover a planet suddenly more valuable than almost any other.

Marines and Scouts prepared positions, while survey crews soured the planet to pinpoint the locations of other portals. A minimal selection of Arcanan technology, mostly that pertaining to the environment, had been calibrated to this particular planet. The majority of the most advantageous devices, portal locators and similar detection systems, were still being overhauled to function in a place so different from their home. A bare regiment of Marines, and another battalion of Scouts was tasked to hold an entire planet. Sure, many would be ignorant of the advantages the planet conferred, but some would investigate, and they would stumble across the portals in the same way others had, and once they knew, then things were likely to get sticky...

OOC:

Here's the breakdown. A world has been discovered with access to a seemingly infinite progression of identical alternate worlds. Anyone that manages to capture the planet will be of course heavily advantaged by this. On the other hand, it's not like having infinite resources either. Anyone who treats this like a magical fountain of infinite and unlimited resources will find the portal chains suddenly cutting off a few universe down chain, because that's not the point of the planet. You still have to excavate, process, transport, and defend those resources, and all the other inconveniences associated with having planets. I'm hoping that this'll be a sort of combined land grab, diplomacy, and skirmish RP. Random fleets are liable to be ignored. Task groups are less likely to be ignored, simple squadrons are likely your best bet, just to hold on to a vague sense of realism. If you have a fleet out on the ass end of nowhere, way the hell away from most anyones populated space, sure, you can use it. Of course, if you have a fleet way the hell out on the ass end of nowhere, I have to wonder why you haven't been conquered yet...
