Slingball is a game played mainly in Slyphe.
It is played on inline skates, the court is a rounded rectangle around the size of a basketball court that is perspex walled and mesh roofed with a laminate floor. There are seven players per side, wearing heavy protective gear. The ball is slightly larger than a tennis ball and has a 1" core of dense rubber, coated with Zectron courtesy of the Superball corporation. It is UV luminescent, Which is handy, because the court is covered with UV strobes outside the perspex. The stick is around the size of a snooker cue, and is similar to a lacrosse stick at one end, except broader for dexterity's sake, and slightly more shovel-like to retain the ball and to allow the ball to be struck along the ground with the side. The other end is similar to a tennis racket and cannot be used to strike the ball along the ground, it is mainly used to deflect or smash the ball while it is in the air. The goal is a circular hole in the perspex with a net to catch the ball, and is a third of a meter from the ground and two and a half metres in diameter. There are seven players to the team. You may not: -
Strike a player with either end of your stick, the stick is padded along the shaft in the style of boxing paraphenelia and may be used to become a moving obstruction to a player, (You may "Check" him by holding your stick two handed horizontally, lower than his throat and higher than his waist, and he may defend himself by performing the same hold vertically).
Hit the ball along the ground using the tennis racket end.
Check either goalkeeper.
Game is four quarters of twenty minutes long.
