Rebellion in Nobamba Heats Up (Intro, MT Open)

Mubutu Times

Mubutu, Nombamba - Reports continue to pour in of increased rebel activity throughout the Naramba Province of northern Nobamba, particularly in the provincial seat of Bulvana. Civilian casualties in the city rose to an astonishing total of 232 dead and over 600 wounded in the past several months. Casualties yesterday at a skirmish near the Grand Mosque of Bulvana brought these tallies to an all time high, and as the rebels continue to gain popularity casualties will continue to rise.

An office building in Bulvana burns as it is hit with mortar fire from rebel positions in the shanties surrounding the city.

The government is doing the best it can with its limited number of combat units in service and outdated hardware, however Nobamban troops are proving increasingly ineffective against the insurgency. Government troops were defeated at the skirmish near the Mosque yesterday, with twenty soldiers' lives being taken at the hands of AK fire. In addition, two government T-55 tanks were lost to rebel RPG fire, and the government is now unwilling to use armored units in the cities, which will no doubt add to the tally of young infantry men killed in the line of duty without the armored support they need. Nobamban troops are fighting for their lives on the front lines, and those front lines may be our homes here in Mubutu in days to come.

Sergeant Napo Tukelli stamped out a cigarette in the dirt, fixing the Galil which was draped over his back. He watched as a convoy of trucks off in the distance kicked up dirt and dust, the scene tinted by his thick sunglasses. He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, adjusting the Galil strung over his shoulder again to allow for more comfort. Leaning up against the metal wall of the shanty hut, Tukelli sent a glance to the inside of the hut.

"Rebel convoy to the northeast.", he said in a slightly accented English, resembling an English cockney.

"Eh? Well, then, better get command on the horn."

His RTO picked up the telephone reciever to his AN/PRC-77, tuning in to the encrypted command channels. He began radioing in the coordinates of the convoy, and recieved confirmation that a strike was inbound.

This two man scout team had been based out of this shanty on the edge of Bulvana for quite some time, however this was their first real contact with the enemy. As the trucks disappeared from sight, Tukelli walked back inside the hut, and sat down at the makeshift table in the corner with his partner, a Corporal James Montgomery, a native-born Nombamban of Anglo-Saxon descent.

"Command said we'd be movin' out soon.", Montgomery said while taking a sip from his canteen. "Says they need some more 'elp towards the center. The Mosque is apparently a mess. The regs are gettin' beat up out there."

"Well, we'll deal with that when the time comes.", Tukelli replied. The roar of two Mi-24 gunships could be heard outside as they came over the sand dunes, homing in on the rebel convoy and quickly silencing it with S-5 rockets. Tukelli smiled. "Well looks like whatever they were carryin' isn't going to reach its destination."

Suddenly, however, the radio blared to life. Montgomery went ahead to answer the call. He listened for a few moments, then set the reciever back down.

"Group of civvies lined up down th' road from us. Another scout team needs support now."

Tukelli turned towards his partner, bringing his Galil into his hands.

"Let's get this show on the road, then. There's a war to fight out there."

(OOC: So essentially, if you want to intervene on either side keep it kinda small. You know, a few small deployments or something, but no army groups or anything that large. Maybe a division or two, or better yet a battalion-sized group. But, otherwise, you're welcome to come on in. :) )

Screams of agony in Nobamban were drowned out by the roar of flames and the cackle of small arms as the battle raged. Chaos reigned in the streets as rebel forces rose up against and pushed government troops back.

Smoke from this particular skirmish rose above the rooftops of the tin shanty huts, while Tukelli and and Welligton picked their way through the slums. Finally they came upon Scout Team Wolf, another Scout team operating out of the slums.

"What seems to be th' situation, gentlemen?"

The lead scout shifted his SVD to his left hand as he used his right to point out at a line of civilians, and in front of them a DShK machine gun with rebel operators.

"The rebels are beginning their campaign of ethnic cleansing throughout the city. Those of the Norgatu tribe are being targetted first.", he replied.

Tukelli raised his Galil and walked around one of the huts, gazing quietly and counting the number of rebels. Six. He returned to the other scouts.

"There are six of them and four of us. If we can take out the operators of the em-gee first we can mop the rest of 'em up before they know what hit 'em and before they can hurt the civvies. I'll take the loader if you take the gunner.", he said to the Scout armed with an SVD. He nodded in agreement, and the team began to take up their positions.

Tukelli placed the loader of the DShK between his crosshairs in his reflex scope, placing the central red dot on the back of the man's head. He held his breath, and counted to three, hoping his synchronization was on target with his marksman counterpart. He squeezed the trigger, sending the round into the man's head and out the other side. A shower of red covered the men around him as brain matter and skull fragments went flying into the air. His synchronization was right on, as well, as the sniper's SVD cracked and the gunner's head exploded into a brilliant display of gore.

The rest of the rebels were taken down fairly quickly, and the group of Scouts freed the civilians.

"Been a pleasure working with you.", Tukelli said while extending his hand to the Scout sniper. He accepted the handshake with a smile. The two teams then parted ways, never even learning one another's names.

As Tukelli and Wellington walked through the slums, a tremendous roar overcame their ears. Two Mi-24 Hinds came overhead low, and sent a barrage of rockets into a nearby building. Within moments their radio was screeching with orders.

"Wellington here."

"The main push begins now.", he heard a voice say. "Fight your way to the Grand Mosque. The city will be ours by sundown."

Wellington replaced the receiver, and looked at Tukelli.

"We need to go. Now.", he said. "We 'aven't much time. And no time to explain."

"Well this situation seems most unpleasant. I believe that these people need to be converted. We really should start off sending some aid to their governmen" Not much else was said by the Chancellor to General Blueshield other than those words as he read the newspaper at his desk.

Within the hour, the Confederate 5th Marine Division was prepped up and ready to be sent on a humanitarian aide effort to Nobamba. They would be inserted just outside the Nobamban capital, and from their they would distribute food and medical supplies to the locals. Along with the marines, several squads of Imperial Guards and Honor Guards, the Confederate Special Forces, were also being sent. The primary task of these men would be to ward off threats and to capture or kill any rebel leaders if it became necessary to do so.

In the air, a specially trained helicopter insertion team known as the "Hunters" were also being readied for their deployment. The government had hoped for everything to run smoothly, and with a little luck, this might even boost the reputation of the Confederacy.

The Amazonian Dominion was order-it was stability over chaos, power through collective unity beneath the gaze of the powerful military and centralized government which all led to a single man. Chaos, even dissent, was not feared-it was despised and quickly cleansed. The dead man, neck crunched, was evidence of where dissent could get one who got out of line.

Even in international affairs, the Dominion was never hesitant to quash the movements against stability and the status quo. Socialism and communism, the natural enemies of authoritarianism that found its nest in the Dominion, were fires extinguished quite often by Dominion hoses-yet they were not the only fires. Rebellion or revolt in its natural sense was something to be dismissed with hails of bullets and missile fire, something to not even be thought about, never mind practiced. The Dominion nearly always through support behind a ruling government, just to keep peace and stability rather than let one potential catalyst spark a change.

Which is why when the International News Alert Moniter (INAM) in the Imperial Palace spat out news about a potential insurgency in the previously-unknown-at least in the Dominion-nation of Nomamba, that Droma's eyes looked over the notice with some scrutiny. Just another case of rebels that a localized government couldn't take care of...and once again, Droma was looking to assist the government, even in the case of perhaps gaining some sort of advantage against the constant flux of global power.

At a military debriefing in the Command Center of the Imperial Palace-less a palace than the central military hub of the Dominion (Droma, once a Grand Admiral, liked it that way)-the Emperor reviewed over the case of the uprising in the small country.

"We have enough forces on hand as it is-none of our own possessions are under any threat of foreign influence," he remarked, "we might as well get our feet wet."

"For what potential gain?" questioned one of the higher generals on hand, Major General Jonas Swarthmore. High military officials were some of the only people who could actually pose authority questions in the nation-and the compliment of Sovereign Guard in the expansive room ensured that no question exceeded even their authority.

"There is always a potential gain," the Emperor said with disdain. He wanted to wrap up this conference quickly. "We have plenty of special forces units simply sitting around at military bases gathering dust. Somewhat of a waste, if you ask me. It is not like we don't have the numbers to replace them if something went...awry. But I will subject a sort of compromise to alleviate your misplaced fears. We will send in two units of Shock Troopers and a unit of Commandos to deal with this problem. They should be more than enough, and will take three transport vessels there. We will exorcise our power against these rebels and the foolishness of going against the norm, leech the government for our services, than return. It is a plan that shall work-and this conference is complete. I want the forces out within twelve hours. You are dismissed."

The Emperor walked out of the conference abruptly, the ornately-armored Sovereign Guard following him out. The high command was left to carry out what the Emperor had ordered. They quickly got about it-two companies of Shock Troopers and one company of Dominion Commandos from Oceana base were mobilized for immediate deployment with two LSTs and one LHD, equipped with twelve VSTOL F/A-37 SkyScream fighters, two dozen AH-4 Wraith Attack helos, and ten MH-106 Camel transport and support helos.

The Emperor, meanwhile, went to go compose a personal message to the governmental defenders...he preferred to do this personally.

Addressed to the Nomamban Government

The Amazonian Dominion has heard your plight against a rebel faction threatening to destablize government affairs. A special forces unit is already deployed and will be on its way towards your location within twelve hours.

President Mubeko Makes Public Statement

Mubutu, Nombamba - This morning President David Mubeko made a public statement praising foreign nations who were pledging assistance to the government of Nobamba, and pledged that he would immediately order the armed forces to guide the incoming foreign troops and point out crucial hotspots around the nation. He also pledged to the people of Nobamba that this rebellion would end by the end of the year, and the nation would be able to move forwards in progress.

This newspaper writer, however, would like to see this happen in our lifetime.

Diplomatic Communique to the Grand Duchy of Aunesia

The following attached information details our fair nation of Nobamba, to better assist you in your mission from God. If you need any other information, please feel free to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

(OOC: So essentially, Nobamba is (obviously) an African nation. It's RPed a former British colony with a majority of African citizens, but a large amount of caucasians from the southern island. The country itself is an island nation that I have yet to find a permanent home for, and is very, very small by NS standards. Climate is mostly wet in the south, and a dry, African bush up north.

Ajer, Yafor 2

Foreign Minister Davrain Nayadol, purely from his inexperience, was not used to handling everything that infringed upon his part of the government. Most things went to Rudiv Sodo, the Elected Duke (or to be more accurate, Guillermo Vicente, the Chief Minister) and then a watered-down version arrived in the Foreign Minister's office. That was the way he liked it. Davrain was very inexperienced and was still adjusting to the government worked. Or so he liked to think. Actually, it was probably simply because he was very, very lazy. Of course, he was running for Elected Duke soon, but he didn't expect to win, and even if he did, he could always change his habits.

But now Davrain was dealing with everything and it was beginning to wear him down. Rudiv was at the conference on civil rights (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=519278), the one that was being organized and promoted heavily. That, of course, took up nearly all the Elected Duke's time and in the meantime, it left the Foreign Minister holding the lead. Davrain was hanging on, of course, but he was beginning to have second thoughts about his choice of profession. He was only beginning to have these thoughts, it was important to note, but they were still there. They would be gone soon, however. Or so he hoped.

He raised the stack of papers to stare at yet another report of international turmoil on top of his desk. Most involved cleansing and death and most involved one of the major alliances that often seemed to dominate the world. He normally simply tossed them into the trash can that was strategically placed underneath the desk. Of course, they normally involved weak diplomats, governments that had no idea how to rule, mad rebels, and one or more international commodities. Of course, the Imperial Yaforite Aid Foundation (IYAF) would often have something to say about Yaforite inaction, but the IYAF was always ranting.

The next report on his desk caught his eye, however. A copy of the Mubutu Times lay beside the official report. This was unusual. Normally the media stayed on the sidelines or was clearly supporting of one side. This was interesting, though, and he scanned the article with some interest before setting it aside - on the pile of things that he needed to keep. The official report was of more interest to him, however, and he read it clearly before setting it down on the same pile. This was something new and it would clearly be something big. Preliminary intelligence had indicated it as such and the SRACH were rarely wrong. "Rarely" meaning never.

Pressing the button on the intercom above the pile of important information, he waited. Finally the voice on the other end came through, crackling, but irritated. "What is it, Davrain? I told you not to contact us, we're quite busy. The Austarians are upset about the Allaneans and the seating arrangements and we're trying to track down the Dominioner here, and, well, it doesn't really matter to you. What is it?" Guillermo Vicente tended to sound irritated most of the time, but Davrain knew him well enough to know that he simply tried to be irritated. Guillermo was a mild man who generally kept his cool in a crisis.

"Allaneans? How'd they get through security?" Davrain asked, his interest having been stirred slightly. At the warning noise at the other end of the line, he continued. "You got this report on Nobamba? You think we should intervene?" There was silence at the other end of the line, and then Guillermo spoke. "Figure it out yourself, Davrain. Do you think that we should intervene?" The other end clicked off. Davrain stared at the wall, and then began to write.

The Nobamban government would soon receive a letter from Ajer asking what the situation was. So would the rebels.

[OOC: It doesn't particularly matter what is exactly said in the letters, just what they mean. Good job for a first RP, by the way!]

Briefing Room, the next day
Strando Combined Forces Base; Aunesia

"The situation is as follows..." began Major General Mark Borroux, addressing the combined officer force of the 17th and 21st Airmobile Brigades - part of the Aunesian Rapid Response Force, setting out the situation on the ground; the rebels v. the Government.

"Our mission is to restore peace to the nation of Nobamba with a minimum of casualties. Our primary concern at all times is to be the protection of civilian non-combatants. They are to be protected from any and all hostile forces.

"Our primary combatants will be the rebel forces. They are an insurgency, they are likely to be lightly armed, with little organisation, although there is no way to be certain what the situation is, before we get there.

"We are also receiving reports from Intelligence that Blackhelm is intending to dispatch their own...humanitarian force...to Nobamba. Until such time as they act contrary to our mission, they are not to be engaged with. Extreme caution is advised, and close monitoring of the situation will continue.

"Our ally Van Luxemburg is also dispatching troops, with whom we shall be closely liaising.

"We leave at exactly 1100 hours, you have three hours. Dismissed."

Runway; Later

The enormous SuC-1 and SuC-2 Strategic Airlifters were arranged on the runway, fully loaded, with the 50x K2 Black Panther MBTs, 100x M998 HMMVW’s, 50x LAV-25 APCs and 7,000 troops and logistic personnel; the 10x CH-47 Chinooks, 15x UH-60 Black Hawks and 10x Ka-50 Attack Helicopters having been dispatched separately.

"This is Athena One to Tower, requesting permission to approach runway 29er, over,"

"Athena One, this is Tower, you are cleared for take-off, repeat, you are cleared for take off, over"

"Understood, Tower, proceeding to runway 29er"

One by one, the huge planes powered up, circling to gain altitude and form up, before heading towards their destination, Nobamba, escorted by SuF-6As and accompanying stratotankers.

The Confederate military acts entirely independant from the Griffincrest Security Forces, and Chancellor Blackhelm, while friends with Claudius Griffincrest, does not have a corrupt world domination agenda by any means. The beginning elements of the 5th Marine Division began to hit shore, and with them, came the media. BCNN news reporters were on several of the transports, as were reporters from a number of other media outlets, such as Wolf News and the Paradise City Times. The transports hit the shore and marines began to pour out onto the beach, all the while reporters covering the event, some even disobeying direct orders from the Confederate High Command and giving away the exact location of the soldiers locations and plans in the country.

Overhead, a group of Blackhawk helicopters began making fly-by's, dropping down pamphlets over the capital city of Mubutu, while others began to drop in early food drops in an attempt to gain the trust of the people. Out at sea, the helicopter transport ship the CNS Vigilant was preparing several Cobra attack helicopters to make a quick fly by of the area and scout out potential hotspots.

Back in the Confederacy on BCNN

"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Brutus Heartcrest, reporting live from the 5th Marine Divisions base in Nobamba. We are currently located at a major highway intersection between Dakarva and Mubutu. The base was selected here, according to General Flavius Bronzefist, because it is one of the more vital areas in the capital province. As you can see behind me, some four hundred marines have already made it to shore, and several thousand more are expected to be arriving throughout the night. At this moment, very little armor is in the area, but that to should change over the course of the night. With any luck, our boys can hopefully restore order and bring peace and stability to this tiny island nation. For the Blackhelm Confederacy News Network, Brutus Heartcrest, signing out"

"Well, things really are moving fast for us now arent they?" Derrick asked noting his wifes expression.

"Tell me about it." The Empress said analyzing the intelligence report.

"I think this is the perfect chance for you to consolidate yourself as supreme ruler of the Empire." Derrick told his wife. They may have just been married for three days, but international events didnt stop coming. "The rebels here might even think twice if you show that your as agressive as any of your predecessors.''

Empress Krstina Schraepl II looked at the man sitting across from her. Her husband, the head of her guards, her friend. She absorbed his words and looked down at the report. Maybe agressive was a good policy...

"What do you recommend?" She asked him. Personall yshe knew that at 18 she was in no position to make choices of this magnitude alone.

"I say we pledge support to the rebels." He said cooly. His old friend looked at him in shock. "Not with men, but with supplies. If all these other nations are helping the government then in the spirit of fairness I think the rebes should be helped." He stopped and added a quick but very important bit of information, "Of couse the supplies wont be traced back to us, we can send them via Wolke Industries commercial transports."

"Fine." The Empress said before standing and stretching. Unlike Derrick she had no real love for politics, since he was 13 she always noticed he replaced women with guns and battleships.

"Ill send the supplies right away." Derrick said. "And where are you going?"

"Im going to the baths, I need to relax. Care to join me?'' Derrick smiled and nodded. He ordered the Wolke Industries send the supplies to the rebels and left to spend time with his wife.

----------

"Lets get to work then." Gared Bowe said. He recieved the order from the desk of the Empress only moments ago. At first he wasnt sure she had the will to hold the Empire together, this proved him wrong. Soon there would be
100 Leopard 2A4 MBT, 1500 M-4 Carbines, 350 Dragon Fire II Mortars, 700 Trucks, and even 250 MG3 Machine Guns on the way to the rebels. These were not to be unprotected. On the container vessel are a hundred secutiry personel all armed with modern military weapons.

(OOC: Damned timewarping Jolt... My mission will now most likely include a few ships and several aircraft, but not more than 10 to 20 of each, I think. That said, my troops will start landing when I got the go-ahead.)

Castle Wewelsburg, somewhat later that day

Behind the table, made out of heavy oak wood, Colonel Martin Laval signed the last of his papers, before picking up a few personal belongings that were laying on the table. At that moment, his second in command, a Lieutenant-Colonel named Giancarlo Panicucci, opened the large doors that granted access to Laval's office, and walked in.

'Sir, we must go. The aircraft is waiting.' Panicucci had already turned around on the spot, as he saw Laval walking after him. The Colonel walked somewhat faster than his Second-in-Command, and reached him in a matter of seconds.

'I know. You got the troops ready?' the two walked by a guard position, where a soldier quickly saluted to the two officers.

'Yes, sir. I got them up in the trucks. Our transport is already waiting at Paderborn Airport.'

Panicucci walked on, down the stairs, where a convoy of 7 trucks and a single 4x4 awaited. The 4x4, a Toyota Land Cruiser, armoured and in camouflage colours, carried a lightbar with blue lights, and most likely a siren, but they weren't used, while a a single orange light was stuck to the roof, and was flashing. While Panicucci got in the first truck, with several other soldiers, Laval got in the Toyota, which was already manned by a driver.

'That's all. We can go.' Laval said to the driver of the 4x4, which rected immediately by driving away slowly. The convoy used several roads through villages to get to the airport, following normal traffic laws. The vehicles maintained a safe speed, and the soldiers didn't say anything until the airport was in sight.

Paderborn Airport was a normal airfield, and usually didn't have any form of military traffic passing by. Therefore, a few A400M transport aircraft attracted quite some attention from both ground crew and passengers of other flights. As the convoy arrived, the crowd was asked to leave, and only several people didn't listen to the crew of the military aircraft. As the crowd left, the soldiers started unloading the trucks and into the aircraft, while the trucks and the 4x4 themselves were loaded onto other transports, parked next to the first one, which would carry munition and the troops themselves.

As the troops carried the last of the crates inside the aircraft, the engines coughed and started, while the last few soldiers headed on board.

'EDLP Tower, this is MF0908. Flight plan as filed, Takeoff clearance, please'

'Roger, MF0908. Flight to Nobamba as filed, Please take Runway 25, Mind incoming traffic. Cleared for Take-off'

'Roger, EDLP Tower. Runway 25, mind incoming traffic, Cleared for Take-off'

The transport aircraft slowly taxied away from their positions on the tarmac, and took off one by one, towards Nobamba.

Though Nobamba hadn't responded to the Dominion message, the Emperor had deployed anyway. The three-ship formation of one LHD and two LSTs was escorted by two guided missile cruisers, a destroyer, a helicopter destroyer, four missile frigates, and five PCFGs. It was a modest fleet, and meant simply to escort the landing ships, aboard which were the three companies of elite soldiers-totalling six hundred men (200 per company)-en route to Nobamba.

The troops had been relatively accepting of the mission; some even looking forward to it to get some of the rust of mainland life out and actually getting back to fighting. The Dominion was war-loving, in a way, and the troops and citizens mirrored this point in their embrace of militarism and imperialism. Though this was technically a mercy mission, it could go potentially far further.

Task Force 2 approached Nobamban waters at a leisurely 15 knots. The battle group included the carrier Swift, the destroyers Adamant, Intrepid, and Fearless, the frigate Arrow as well as a replenishment ship loaded with extra fuel and ammunition. In addition the force was escorting two LSTs and two transports carrying the Tolvanic peacekeeping force.

(OOC: Well, I think it's time to shake things up again. My Spec-Ops will be landing at Mubutu, I suppose, so I will name it Mubutu International Airport, for the time being.)

Mubutu International Aiport, Nobamba

The A400M Military Transports soared over the runway, touching down seconds later. The sound of the screeching tires could be clearly heard from inside the aircraft, but no single passenger could, apparently, be bothered.
The Airbus'es then slowly taxied towards the spots they had been assigned by Air Traffic Control. When the engines stopped, so did the aircraft, and after the ramp lowered onto the asphalt, the troops walked out. They weren't in a hurry, since the loadmasters of the transports would take care of their vehicles, and they could only leave with those vehicles with them.

'Rright. So, I'm going to try and get some coffee' one of the soldiers said, while walking towards the terminal building.

'O'Reilly! Where the fuck did you think you were going! we're waiting for someone from the Nobamban Armed Forces to show up, and you're saying you're trying to get coffee in a goddamn war zone?' Laval shouted at the soldier, which was now walking away from the group.

'Ehm, but Sir, we'll have to wait after all'

'Incorrect. You can make yourself useful. Help the loadmasters unload our stuff. All of you!'

The group of soldiers began to move, and was soon assisting their loadmasters to get the vehicles out of the loading space.

OOC: That's fine. I apologize for not having any initiative to RP as Nobamba atm, I'll try to get some. But, to be honest, it was a bad time to start a puppet war. =/ I'm pretty swamped IRL and need to concentrate on my main nation.
