Clandonia Prime
12-03-2007, 21:06
Looking at the recent developments in Clandonia Prime, commentators had described the growing economic strength. One of the effects of laissez faire capitalism is the growth of an underclass created by a rich-poor divide. Fearful of the growing underclass that would lead to a possible revolution the King ordered change. In Clandonia most schooling and healthcare was private, a system criticised as 'feudal' by some countries because of the total lack of welfare. With the Tory Liberals low tax stance, there was no money for the provision of social welfare, most money was spent on defence, security or given back to companies in the form of subsidies. A very small proportion going to healthcare was described by one senior Tory MP, 'To stop the proles piling up on the streets.'

King William VII had seen this, as a Royal and sovereign of the Clandonian people he had the duty to protect them. With only 2.3% of the population owning 96.7 % of the country things had to change, education rates were falling with only 6 % of people literate making Clandonian's some of the stupidest in the region. The King was fearful of revolution, a revolution had killed off most of his family nearly fifty years ago in the first Clandonian civil war. It had been a long continuation by the aristocracy and Tories not to educate the poor encase they became self aware and read Marxist and other socialist literature which would give them ideas beyond their station. The hierarchical structure must be preserved at any cost, using the principles of Burke in order for the Clandonian state and Royal family to survive change must be adopted, give a little to prevent a lot. The plan to unite the people under the pride, glory and for the love of the nation while advocating basic social policies such as the education up to the age of fourteen where they either had the option of joining the forces or to seek employment.

The policy was launched by the King and his Prime Minister, Tory leader David Sistilin along with Lord Protector Sir Thomas with the rest of the Royal family standing behind the three men. addressing the 20 million strong crowd from the balcony of Kirklington Palace, the cheers of the proles deafening as the words of 'For King and country!' were echoed across. The King called for silence, into the microphone he ushered for quiet, the crowd obeyed.

"Clandonians, I call for us to be united and strong in this crucial time. I have seen the suffering that many of your suffer, Mr Sistilin here has a the One Nation Plan here to give you more rights and freedom. I promise for the continued enlargement of the armed forces, our continued support of the colonies and for the return of those trapped by the imperialist warmongers of Whyatica!"

The crowd roared in support, the waving of flags and cheers of twenty million people deafening. The cameras broadcasting live around to the millions in Clandonia, the colonies and those poor few trapped in the horrible lands of the evil Whyaticans in the old lands.

"I shall pursue the construction of a second capital submarine by our great industrial workers, built to carry some of the most powerful weapons created by our scientists and commanded and crewed by some of the best submariners in the world. Our naval powers will grow, for our commitment to guard the waters of the Haven is a must from such menaces like the Corporate Alliance and the Global Alliance of Socialist Nation. I also pay tribute to the three hundred people killed in The World Soviet Party, the investigation goes onto the cause of such a terrible incident. The battle against communism must go on, the defence of Zanski has proved successful with the powers of the Sovereign League turning back the warmongering communists dogs led by nations like The World Soviet Party and The Lone Alliance. The defence of liberal democracy and neo-liberal economics stretches across the globe, Mr Sistilin stands by his strong claims of support for the Sovereign League against the foes of Gholgoth and the GUSN. Danger still lies close to home, the completion of the King William Defence Line will bring a greater level of security to Clandonia to stop against the Midlonians and their imperialist ambitions, they will not pose a threat to Clandonia!"

Another applause stirred the crowd.

"And finally, the recent war against the Corporate Alliance has my blessing, never again such monsters like The Kraven Corporation and the Blackhelm Confederacy be allowed to build up armies and exploit small nations for their natural resources. Groznjy fell but it is not to late to save Southeast Asia from the corporate monstrosities which bring shame to capitalism."

The Prime Minister and the Lord Protector stepped forward and only said,

"Thank you, your Majesty. God Save the King!"

The sound of God Save the King! filled the air as the millions of people in the crowd cheered, some crying with the passion they held for their country and their monarch. This was the goal, nationalism for the love of ones country. People were indoctrinated with this feeling, so much they were prepared to sacrifice it all.

New recruiting posters were going up for the Royal Navy, under the display of a the Commander Puriton submarine firing its full missile compliment. The question was put to ordinary Clandonians in the street, "Are you ready to die for your country?" The answer was a pleasing eight out of ten people answered yes, this was the birth of Clandonian One Nationism.

Clandonians Cannot Rule Themselves
The Register, Page 9, Commentary

Many of you saw King William VII of Clandonia's speech on IWNews International yesterday. His speech, taking up much time while saying nothing, has proven one thing to this reporter - the Clandonian people should not be trusted to rule themselves. Many people in Clandonia are below the poverty level - unable to read, write, barely able to feed their children and themselves, and the King wishes to construct a second capital submarine that would cost hundreds of billions of dollars. I have visited Imperial Clandón on vacation, and I can tell everyone here that it is a pleasant place, nothing like what it was not long ago when the Whyatican Empire annexed the land. There are no 'poor, oppressed' people in Clandón, people work and live their lives freely under the Emperor.

A senior MP of the Clandonian Tory party noted about healthcare, "Have a little bit so the proles don't pile up in our streets."

2% of Clandonians control over 95% of the national wealth. This to me smacks of aristocracy, of the King treating the people in his borders as little more than factory slaves. People cannot afford healthcare, education, anything. Another remark from a Clandonian MP made it clear to me that "..If the people became educated, they may read Marxist rhetoric and overthrow us."

The majority of Clandonians cannot read. Perhaps it is the time for Clandonia to be invaded once more, the aristocracy removed and sensible leadership, a guiding hand put in place. The Praetonian approach is not working. People die in the street of dysentery while Praetonian money goes to buying massive submarines. Merely throwing trillions at the King and telling him to do what he pleases has created this third-world state in the middle of Haven, trigger-happy people with nuclear weapons readily at their disposal.

Eight out of ten Clandonians said they would "die for their country". The Whyatican annexation of Clandonia, to date, has had 21 Clandonian deaths, all terrorists attempting to drive the population into anarchy and riots. After the first two months of occupation, not one Whyatican soldier, or Clandonian civilian, has died in fighting. Perhaps when the Clandonians poll their people on the streets, they should ask more than ten people. Not many people want to die.

Commentary on the Prospect of Socialism in Clandonia

Jamahiriya, Central Organ of the Halladi Socialist Party

Clanon City, CLANDONIA PRIME - It has become all too clear that capitalist economics have failed. Look at Clandonia, a nation in the centre of Haven. A nation embracing classical capitalist economics. On the outside, it is a beautiful. It is a powerful nation. But then you look deeper.

Ask a Clandonian this: "What is the capital of Questers?" Your response will be a shrug. Perhaps, even, they'll ask in return, "What's Questers?" The situation in Clandonia gets worse day by day. This is because they have no public education. No social services. No healthcare.

In Clandonia, the richest 2.3% of the population controls 96.7 % of the nations wealth. In Clandonia, only 6% of the population is literate. Only 6% of the population could evenr read this article. And why? The answer is simple. Capitalism. Capitalism, and their bourgeois and illegitimate Monarchy.

Clandonia is a nation of great potentional, but it is a nation ruled by a kleptocrat. Behind its cool exterior, and its polished war machines, lies a crippled nation. A nation where billions are spent on over-sized submarines, while the people themselves starve on the streets.

One Member of Parliament of the Clandonian Tory party noted about healthcare, "Have a little bit so the proles don't pile up in our streets."

There is a sollution. Socialism. Freedom. Unity. Democracy. They go hand-in-hand, and it is time the class conciousness of the Clandonians awoke. They are ripe for the picking, and it is the hope of the Halladi Socialist Party that a few good men will rally these proletarians to victory over their oppressors.

Clandonia: An insult to the word "nation"

Franberrian Citizen, 1st section, 17th page, Editorial

The Clandonian goverment issued a statement earlier today, consisted mainly by King William VIIs speech. The speech was what we have come to expect by Clandonia. The same old aristocratic system, but with promises to make changes.

Clandonia has already been invaded twice, and has had many different goverments, all promising different things, but have agreed on one fact, moving away from feudalism. So answer us this: Why does this new goverment, who pledges to raise Clandonia to something resembling a modern country, countinue to invest on the massive military wich serves to do nothing but add sorrow to the Clandonian people?

While we do not often call for military intervention, there seems to be no other means to diassuade the Clandonian leadership. We herby call for the invasion of Clandonia by responsible nations to instill a goverment that geniunly cares about it's populace. 94% of Clandonians cannot read, and around 2% of Clandonians control 95% of the country's wealth, does this seem sensible to anybody? Where is the Praetorian leash that supposidly controls this hellhole? Praetonia continues to throw away their money on a goverment that does not even teach its citizens to read. We call for them, adn the nations of the world, to set the Clandonians straight, by any means.

The Royal family visiting New Danskeran earlier today

From the New Clanon City Times

The Royal family today officially launched the One Nation Plan with the opening of laying down of the new capital submarine which is expected to take 15 years before sea trials are commenced. The submarine which will cost an estimated $2 trillion NSD's will be the second capital submarine built, the current HMS Commander Puriton has been in service for twenty years now and will be going in for a major refit to refuel the submarines eight nuclear reactors which have propelled it around the worlds oceans, covering over 500,000 miles. The current submarine was built under the leader of the fascist General Lancer who used it to threaten the nations of Nova Europa in the long stand off which resulted in a Clandonian victory. The new construction is expected to create an extra an extra 800,000 new jobs in New Danskeran where the bulk of the construction will be done.

Uranium prices boomed yesterday on the Clandonian stock market after Imperial Uranium Mining announced the contract to supply the new submarine with fuel for the two vessels had been agreed boosting the struggling mining sector boosting the economic recovery.

Prime Minister David Sistilin responded to criticism yesterday after foreign nations accused Clandonia of being a 'feudal state'. The Prime Minister responded in a press conference calling pot kettle on the imperialistic actions accusing them of human rights violations in which an estimated 310,000 Clandonians have died under Whyatican control. Franberry and Hallad also joined in with the a criticism, Sistilin laughed at these 'socialist' nations lecturing on the prospects of social welfare saying Clandonians are perfectly educated. The One Nation programme plans education from the ages of four to 14 where after students have the choice of joining into the military or finding a job. Those students who excel of from more affluent backgrounds will proceed onto higher education.

Labour leader Stuart Lewis-Jones, accused the Tory leader of 'knee jerk' policy after the Evans Report on equality in Clandonia Prime. The socialist leader said the promised reforms did not go far enough and he attacked the Prime Ministers claims about the new capital submarine creating jobs saying it was merely a short term solution. The Tories went up two points the in the Times daily opinion poll with the promise of basic welfare provision with the Chancellor Sir Gregory Osborne increasing healthcare spending to 6% in his pre-budget speech in time for next weeks announcement for the next financial year. The military is expected to be give its usual share of the budget keeping line with the Tory promise of a strong defence policy. The 'Belief,Obey and Fight' plan is designed to work with the One Nation plan to give people a greater sense of patriotic duty with schools giving lessons on the military history and from the age of eight weapon drills in the form of the Tri-Service Cadet Corps designed to prepare children ready for their compulsory service which starts at the age of eighteen. Prince Albert is to begin his military training as he attends the army's Lakehurst Officer Training College in New Kirkland where he is expected to join the 2nd Home Armoured Division.

Clandonians again show disturbing lack of intelligence.

The New Clandon City Times failed to make the distinction between a newspaper and a country yesterday. They openly attacked our great country, when they should've been directing their untruthful insults at us. Perhaps, this mistake was made, because unlike in free, democratic countries, in Clandonia there is no distinction between what the goverment says, and a newspaper like the New Clandon City Times, which just spouts govermental reports. However, this is not as bad an insult as it may seem, as probably noone read it, with a grand total of 6% of Clandonians being able to read, more people read it in the mailroom of our offices than in the country formerly mentioned. Again, we would like to plead for some sort of sanity (another 2km sub is not that King William VII) and get Clandonians to actually learn to read.

"6% literate? What hellhole it is?" asked First Citizen Vesse Põhjakotkas

"Its Clandonia Prime, highly capitalistic country, also member of ACTO, it seems like they spend huge amounts of money on their army." answered foreign minister Lembit Tuleplaneet.

"Fine, congratulate them officially for keeping national security as high priority. Our ecomomic interests demand keeping good relations with other capitalistic countries if possible, that how many of our trade partners can read is irrelevant." said First Citizen

Today, once again, the Clandonian government demonstrated that they're great at their job. That is to say, they gave a big long speech designed to draw attention away from the very real problems in Clandionia Prime. (See insert).

Instead of addressing such problems as the shameful literacy rate or enormous rich-poor divide, the speech played upon feelings of Clandonian nationality, painting a large swathe of nations as enemies, from Whyatica and other occupying nations, to the Global Alliance of Sovereign Nations, to the Corporate Alliance, to any and all nations following communist ideals.

I think it's probably safe to say that most of the crowd appearing to hear the King's speech live came with little idea of the true issues facing their nation, and left with less. But hey, they're building a huge arse submarine. Where's the problems with that?

Anybody remember when governments used to be about governing, not entertaining? Ah, well, maybe those days will return again. Until then, ladies and gentlemen, how about a big round of applause for King William VII?

Clandonians Refuse to See Common Sense
Continuing to Build $2 Trillion Submarine, People Starve

With a 6% literacy rate, Clandonia Prime is one of the least educated nations in Central Haven. It also appears that many Clandonians, their leadership included, lack simple common sense. Using Questarian and Praetonian money, they are building a submarine that is estimated cost the equivalent of two trillion standard dollars. That is two trillion dollars that could go to investing in schools, food, preventing people from dying in the streets before they go to work in the morning. When a senior MP can make remarks such as, "[Basic healthcare] is needed so the proles don't dirty our streets", what sort of nation does that create?

It creates Clandonia Prime. 94 out of 100 Clandonians cannot read or write at a basic level. Average people barely have enough food to eat, and this 'One Nation Plan' has not created results in a single day. Clandonian Prime Minister David Sistillin noted that "[Clandonians] are perfectly educated." We challenge him to defend his remarks when the majority of people in his nation cannot read this newspaper. He keeps his people firmly under his thumb by preventing them from being educated, so they can't read what this newspaper and other papers critical of Clandonia say. The 'proles' as Prime Minister Sistillin called them, should rise up against their feudal overlords, put sanity back in a nation that has far lacked it. They need to feed and educate their people before considering another massive, impractical submarine.

PM Sistillin claimed 310,000 dead in Clandonia since the occupation began, which is a blatant falsehood. There have been no massacres, no secret police whisking people away. The population of Imperial Clandón has only grown since the annexation, growing from approximately 401 million to 403 million, as an economic upturn and the occupation in of itself has increased the standard of living.

New Clanon City, Downing Street Cabinet Offices

It had just gone half past three and many of the ministers wanted to return home. Anxious to return to their constituencies to get home to see family or visit anxious constituents. The meeting had been going on for ten minutes, several members had arrived late. Big Billy sounded the time, the noise of rain pattering on the windows and the traffic of a Friday afternoon.

The Chancellor had just taken the stage, delivering the pre-budget speech before its release at the weekend. Gregory Osborne was a long standing Tory MP, having being elected at the age of twenty six he was now in his early forties and had been at the same private school of St. Smiths with Sistilin. The red cases of the government piled on the table with scatterings of laptops, phones and piles of paper.

"Prime Minister, the books have to be balanced for this years budget if taxation is to be kept low we will have to sacrifice some things. One Nation needs to go ahead this year, we are too far in now but the military is sucking up to much money. We need to drop something, I think it should be the military. If we dropped the capital submarine for example it would save billions, the new one isn't really required so it should be scrapped."

"You can't do that!" Piped up Lord Protector Sir Philips. "The King ordered that, HMS Commander Puriton is going in for its final refit, it wont last another five years and when we need to maintain a large naval nuclear deterrent its not possible! We need the new submarine built, what about the jobs?"

"Look we simply can't afford it, if you want to keep taxes low at 10% then there are sacrifices. That submarine is a rust bucket, built by some fascist over twenty years ago. There's no point in keeping it, its obsolete for the threat we face now as we aren't fighting the Nova Europan's any more. Its barely sea worthy and a huge drain on the Treasury."

"As highlighted with the recent crisis against The World Soviet Party, we can no longer know who our enemy is. That submarine provides a full time deterrent at sea, we need to keep it as a tribute to Clandonian engineering."

"Sir, I do protest at this action." Spoke the Armed Forces Minister Sir Hague. "That submarine plays a huge part in the moral of our men, seeing that appear on the shoreline brings people together it would be a huge loss to moral of the men if it were to left rotting in some dry dock on the Tyber. As the member of parliament for the people of New Danskeran South I feel its my duty to safeguard the jobs of the thousands who maintain the Puriton and have begun the construction of the second. That new ship was expected to put at least $2 billion a year into the local economy, if its cancelled the town has nothing."

"Look I understand the concerns but One Nation needs to go ahead." Spoke the Prime Minister, sensing the tension in the room he decided to try and usher the meeting along.

"Sir, One Nation must proceed already the schooling for one hundred and fifty million children has begun with our grant schemes in private schools. Construction of houses for the poor is going well. Foreign monies will create the power and with the official adoption of the Praetonian Crowd our fiscal power on an international level. The military for to long has taken to much of the money, we drop the spending by two percent to put into the welfare and education programmes then review the case in five years time."

"Any more cuts to the military and we may not be able to defend from foreign aggression epically to the foreign claims. We have a duty to protect the companies and the citizens of the Crown. Sacrificing even just two percent could have detrimental effects."

"The Prime Minister has final word, the Puriton will be scrapped and have her munitions unloaded and put into storage at New Danskeran naval base."

"Look at the time! Its half four and I have a flight to catch back to New Kirkland, I must leave now have a good weekend."

The Chancellor left the building and rushed off the airport to catch his flight, there was much chuntering and crossness amongst some of the more traditional cabinet members.

"Well I guess it means I'm out next election time, having to tell your constituents that they will have no job because some toff in the Treasury wants to squeeze the coopers. If you want this One Nation stuff, perhaps think about the workers who will be jobless by the end of the month." Spat Sir Hughes, nearly frothing at the mouth after the meeting, he had appointments tonight from ship workers at the yards who were reporting on the progress of the refurbishment.

"I'm sorry Hugh but we just can't afford it." Spoke the Prime Minster trying to rally everyone together in a show of cabinet collective responsibility, he feared a resignation of someone would be done by the end of the weekend...

"Just because you went to school with him, got pissed and threw up with each doesn't mean you have to pander. Your the Prime Minister show some power and don't let the Treasury dictate government policy. His nice upper middle class suburbia doesn't have the problems of high unemployment."

"I think its time we called it a day, there's no point about arguing this any more. Hugh, your people will be given extra support but with the expected increase in civilian ship building I suspect the industry will remain in New Danskeran till one day we can begin a new naval ship programme which this government will commence once economic recovery has been completed."

And with that the meeting was adjured, a few ministers were standing around in the lobby with a whiskey or a pint before their chauffeurs arrived to take them to the airport, with the time of day transport by road would take hours and the trains were crammed as everyone rushed home. The strikes of Big Billy signalled it was six o'clock as CNN began broadcasting the days latest events. The formation of some new alliance in Haven was the topic of discussion, then a story on the One Nation plan. Nothing about the scrapping of the Puriton, Hughes figured it would be hidden away in the Saturday papers when Clandonian's were to hung over to notice.

He could imagine it now, the carcass of the 1.5 km sub sitting in the swampy shallows of the Tyber, the Unions were not going to like this one bit. The second submarine had already has its first steel cut, Hughes was not looking forward to telling the ship workers that the project had been cancelled...

Super Sub to be scrapped

The huge 1.5 km Puriton Class capital submarine will be scrapped by the end of the year

From the New Clanon City Times
Front Page

In a shock move only a short time after the ordering of a second capital submarine it has been revealed to the Times that HMS Commander Puriton will be mothballed by the end of the year under plans which have been heavily criticised by the Ministry of Defence. The latest move is expected to save $300 Billion NSD's a year, the submarine was scheduled to undergo a refit at the cost of $500 Billion for the upgrading of weapon and electronic systems plus the refuelling of the eight nuclear reactors. This refit has been effectively cancelled in a series of cost cuttings to move money away towards the social welfare programmes in the One Nation plan.

In a statement by Sir Hughes, Minister for the Armed Forces and MP for New Danskeran South he said he 'Deeply disappointed with the Prime Minister' and concerned about the prospects of employment in his constituency. Sir Hughes latest words put the relationship between HM Treasury and the rest of government into question with the need for the balancing of costs. Prime Minister David Sistilin refused to answer reporters when visiting his local town Saturday market. Sir Hughes has said he will consider his government position on the grounds of age and his health, commentators say he is unhappy with the current government line and the misguided direction of One Nation. The building of a second capital submarine had been suggested by His Majesty the King William VII but only weeks after the first steel being cut the project is likely to be scrapped at the cost of 800,000 jobs which would have been created over the fifteen year project. New Danskerans industry as a ship building city has been put into question with the governments official line that a major defence procurement will take place once economic stability has been achieved.

Disgruntlement in the Tory Liberal party began when David Sistilin was selected as leader, many senior MP's and Lords saying the Prime Minister was too young and not the right sort of face the party need with a public school boy image of the prestigious St. Smiths Private College being the education venue of the several cabinet members appointed by Sistilin. The Tory support has been rising due to the internal power struggle in the Clandonian Labour Party over its change in stance after their shocking election performance showing the failure of democratic socialism and interventionist economics.

Clandonian National Front Leader Conrad Zackin, called the decision a disgrace when meeting trade union representatives of the arms industry at their annual conference. In a speech he said "The nation that gives up war and conquest is ripe for the democracy and rule by shop keepers!" Referring to the middle class political consensus, he called for war against The World Soviet Party as the enquiry into the air disaster which killed three hundred Clandonians continues its investigation with a paper expected to be released to the public in six months time. Zackin is a heavy critic of the laissez faire system believing in a more mixed system to cure the social and economic inequality. In a speech on Tuesday at a CNF Youth Meeting he called for "Victory for the strong" and "For the weak to go to the wall" in which mental health charities complained about his references to shooting the disabled and mentally handicapped.

From: Kirill Leonov, NDD coordinator
To: His Majesty the King William VII

Good day to you. We see you have issues with discreetly getting the submarine off your hands. However, we would be interested in helping you to do it - since we have a use for it, albeit not in the original role.

You can simply declare for the public the submarine was sent on a long secret mission and will be serviced away from home. We won't disclose the deal in any way, and it will stay no lower than code S4 internally, which means only the persons directly involved will know of the deal, and code S6 externally, which means nobody will receive that information outside the nation.

We can even help you make it seem like it was actually sent on a mission. Particularly, you can declare it will receive service in our docks around the world, and we'll prepare footage for release in consequent years.

Please respond privately if you are interested.

WBR, Kirill.
