In light of recent events around the globe, the nation of Labhekistan has come to the conclusion that its current version of the T-64 Main Battle Tank, although venerable, would not be enough to defend our proud nation should an attack occur. Thus, our government has contracted the Vheskov Design Bureau to design a new, advanced, and modern main battle tank both for use in our own nation, and for export to friendly nations around the world.

The T-96 Main Battle Tank was developed to meet the needs of the 21st century, by providing an indiginous tank design that could compete with other main battle tanks on the modern battlefield. Thus, Labhekistan has developed a new tank utilizing modern firepower, mobility, and protection technologies.

Armament

The main weapon of the T-96 MBT is one 125mm smoothbore, auto-frettafed, auto-loading gun, armed with both Armour-Piercing, Fin-Stabilized, Discarding sabot (APFSDS) rounds and High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) rounds. As a secondary armament, the T-96 is also armed with one 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun (which can be fired from inside or from the cupola), one 12.7 mm anti-aircraft machine gun, and one Anti-Tank/Ant-Aircraft Missile (ATAAM) tube, with four missiles contained within the tank. The T-96 is also armed with eight grenade launchers (four on either side of the turret), which can be loaded with smoke, chaff, or anti-personnel flechettes for urban fighting.

Defense

Although the specifics of the T-96's armour are classified, it is known that the armour is a composite made up of steel and ceramics, as well as a depleted uranium mesh within the turret, which has been proven to be highly effective. The T-96 is also equipped with blow-out pannels surrounding the fuel and ammunition compartments. The grenade launchers mounted on the sides of the turret are an important feature of the tank, as they are able to shroud the tank from visual and thermal detection, and also to reduce the radar cross-section. The T-96 is also equipped with an extremely effecient NBC protection system, which can protect the crew for up to 72 hours from nuclear, biological, and chemical attacks.

OOC:
Replace the term 'stress hardened' with 'auto-frettaged barrel'

As stress-harnening denotes work hardening, meaning applying friction, either internal or external.

Auto-frettaging is when you slip a hot barrel over a cryogenicly cooled barrel, the cold barrel expands, while the hot one contracts, making the overall barrel lighter and stronger. (the inner barrel should have good hardness, while the outer has good tensile strength, a wear resistant barrel liner is key.)

Composite is a type of armor, not a material.
Taking shots in the dark as to what you may have meant:
Face hardened steel plate is not composite.
Spaced armor is not composite.
Combined Laminate isn't Composite.
Non-explosive Reactive armor is not composite (spall, bulge, or Cellular fill)

Composite denotes a mix of all the above
