“Greetings, comrades and viewers around the world. I’m Poliana Bárique, and this is WIBC Evening News.
“Today, our two Paramount Leaders, General Secretary Carolinus Horridus and his wife Deputy General Secretary Christine Friedrich, both attended the recommissioning ceremonies for inactive Second and Third Fleets of the Red Banner Navy at Aigletia Harbor in Shoenesia State today, ending a period of inactivity for those forces that began with their withdrawal from occupation-support duty off of Strator nearly a month ago.
[Footage of the two leaders, husband and wife both decked out in respective Field Marshal and Vice Marshal uniforms of the Red Guard as per their honorary ranks, cutting the ribbons on each ship to the cheers of their assembled crews at attention.]
Although it was initially announced that they were going to retain their ships but receive new airwings, the lull in the crisis between Vetaka and Londim of late allowed Navy GHQ to authorize the final work-up of the full replacement plan for these fleets instead. Their ships already structurally complete even before the end of the Strator Campaign, sea trials completed last week on all major ships indicate that they are ready for service, and so the older forces can be safely withdrawn ahead of schedule. We now go live to the General Secretary’s final speech for the ceremonies…
[CUT to frontal view of General Secretary Horridus, his paunchy and scruffy appearance somewhat better than normal to give a proper air of discipline, as he addresses the sailors and officers from a podium decked out in red and gold cockades. The Red Banner Marine Corps Band has stopped playing The Internationale after one run each of it in English, Spanish, French, Romanian and Sindarin.]
“My comrades-in-arms, today you return to the sea that is your livelihood; well rested after hard fighting against the forces of tyrannical Strator. That cost us all many friends, and much grief and treasure besides; but victory was ours, as we never doubted it would be. Now, the gathering threat of other tyrants out there, who see fit to declare “wars” against progressive ideals themselves and then shoot their own people for demanding far less than those ideals being declared against in the first place, requires you to sail out in defense of Freedom and Socialism again.
With luck, war may be averted; but we must not trust to the mercy of autocrats. Instead, we must prepare; and then try to rest easy knowing that you, you fine seamen young and old, officer and enlisted, are on the job. On the job, and moving forward; always unto Victory!”
[The gathered crews applaud and shout, throwing their hats into the air as the General Secretary steps down, takes his wife by the hand, and together they cut the last ribbon to the gangplank of UWS Prince Vlad Dracula, an Orel Ul’yanovsk-class supercarrier replacing an old Project 85-class light carrier of the same name as flagship of Second Fleet, in front of the same Admiral Rosencrantz who commands said fleet. They accept and return his salute, before heading off arm-in-arm as the ceremony winds down and the sailors ready to board. CUT back to the WIBC newsroom.]
“A full list of the ships being commissioned or recommissioned with this ceremony is provided in the upper right corner of the screen, and is also available alongside video recordings of the full ceremony at www.wibc.co.wd/news/domestic/navy/2&3fltrecom.htm. More details of this and other news, such as the National People’s Congress’ ferocious debates over budget and tax cuts today, is to follow after this commercial break.
