Osteia: Capital of Apollo, Department of defence

General Karl Baltimore stood at the end of a large oak table in a dark room where twelve other people were seated and slides were going across a screen, some of the men were in Osteian military attire, others wore the uniform of Angermanland as members of their military were present to discuss the plans for wargames on the island of "Agata", southern Osteia. The group had been watching slides on the terrian, towns and key points both sides knew were vital to acheive their victory. Both sides agreed to using three battalions of troops, no tanks but the use of LAVS, APC's and field staff vehicles would be permitted.

The plan was as so,

Each nation would divide their troops in any way they see fit and send them in the direction of the enemy who for ground combat, all soldiers taking the field will be provided with laser equipment under their military gear that when an attacker/defender shoots at his enemy a laser attached to the weapon signals the hit to the soldier (Kinda like a tv romote), while the weapon still fires blanks for the full effect of reality on the battle field.

Next,

Artillary will be firing smoke rounds, it will be obvious what is effected from the blasts.

Finally,

Each side will make their own tactical/stratigic decisions on what is nessasary to their victory, therefore seizing the objectives each respected command orders.

After going through afew more slides General Balitimore signaled for the lights to be turned on,

"I expect to be getting the full list of participating units very shortly, a ...case of one not being so quick to prepare it for this meeting"

The General glanced at a Major who simply looked down at the table and cleared his throat,

"I ask at thius time, are there any questions or anything we have missed? either from the Osteian side of the table or Angerman?"

General Baltimore looked around the room.....

General Baltimore took the file and quickly skimmed through it, his lips moved as if he was speaking but no words came out,

"Very good! at least your people were prepared.."

He shot a deadly glance at the major who sat quietly at the table, he was obviously responcible for some screw up reguarding the list of troops when suddenly a Lt. burst through the door and came to attention, under his arm was a dossier,

"Sir! this dossier just arrived priority from Fort Locke"

The General returned the salute and stood there calmly, the soldier had to have been on orders to deliver these documents quickly as it seemed he had broken a sweat from running,

Baltimore replyed,

"Well then Lt. bring the damned thing here"

"Sir!"

Once the general had the documents he dismissed the junior officer,

"Ahh! gentleman, here we have our list...please..go over this Kommander, i apoligize for the wait.."

Agatta: Osteia

The smell of diesel gas filled the air, the sound of aircraft soaring overhead rumbled loudly and and clouds followed the convoys of vehicles heading to the Osteian starting point on the island of Agatta, southern Osteia. Right after the meeting General Baltimore was transfered to the island to command the troops there, as his humvee passed by lines of marching troops dressed in desert digital cammo, most of them holding the C7A2 assualt rifle in their hands,

"Everything is going acording to plan, have some one tell those engineers from Fox company head south west and prepare a beachhead for our visitors, BUT! stay quiet about it...tell them it's for some more of our men to land on the beach and hold...i want sand bags...HQ..barbed wire, tents, everything there!"

The Colonel sitting next to the general replyed,

"Very good sir! quite hospitible of us"

"Ahaha it's the least we can do before we serve em' an ass kickin'! ahaha"

The general looked out the window to see a bright blue sky, rolling green hills, ancient ruins of the Osteian Empire scattered about the countryside.

Two days later: Agatta, Osteia

The beachhead was completed for the opposing forces, combat engineers working the site were pulled back to the rear after completion of their task. The sun was rising over the sea casting off beautiful colors on the water, General Baltimore and some of his staff stared out on the horizon above the prepared beachhead below from the cliffs. The Nimitz class carrier, "Victory II" was seen moving through the water off the coast with two Iowa class battleships, one in the front and one on her side. All Osteian troops were in position all over the island waiting and being debriefed by their commanders, they did not know what to expect from the enemy as information was limited to them.

"Well..their beachhead seems to be fine, everything i ordered has been carried out...this inspection is complete gentleman....soon, it starts..."

The other officers nodded then the group headed for the humvee that was waiting, driver already seated inside and when he seen them comming he turned the key starting the engine, the general turned once more looking out at the sea, on the cliffs beside him stood an ancient Osteian structure dating back to the Emperor Vespillio....

He continued to look at them for a moment longer then got into the humvee

Rejimint Kommander Devijoh stood at the front of the briefing room aboard the Osteian carrier. Seated in front of him were all of the kompany kommanders, as well as the four battle group komanders, in his Rehimint. Roughly twenty men in all, and few with actual combat experience. This exercise it’s self would be a first.

Once everyone was settled, he began. A map was projected up on the wall, and a copy was contained in the briefing package each man would be given as he left. For now, Devijoh used the projected version to point out objects of interest.

“Right, now you’re all ready, we can begin. In this exercise we are playing the role of the aggressor. Given that we’re an armoured regiment, this is as it should be” he smiled “ our opposition, and Ostiean unit of about equal strength to ours, has been given two days to prepare, though should, in theory, have been kept clear of our landing zone.

Our forces will begin here” he indicated two southern coastal towns sharing a large bay “our beach heads have already been prepared. We are not, after all, marines. The exercise begins the moment our entire force is landed, whatever state of readiness it is or isn’t in at that point.

The goal of the exercise is to cease and hold enough key points to control the island. There are about 24 all up, and we need 15 of them, including at least one of the towns we initially land in. Every one of the coastal towns, including where we make our beachheads, is a potential port, and thus a key point with a value of one. Same with the runways, of which there are four. The main town there” he highlighted it with a laser pointer “ is highly significant and worth 5 points. If left undefended, it’ll be useful to have. If defended well, it might be worth ignoring it. We shall see when the time comes.” He moved on “this town here controls the airfields access to a large degree. It is worth two points in it’s own right, with or without the runways. Finally” he clicked off the laser pointer “the enemy have an evac point set up somewhere. We don’t know where it is, and we won’t know unless they give it away, but it is worth 10 points all by it’s self. It may or may not be one of the other key points.

The exercises last two weeks. If we do not have the required points by the end of that period, we lose. If we do, we win. It’s that simple. There are variations. More points equal a more significant win. Our points including their evac point is a more significant loss on their part.

Your equipment has been rigged with special IR lasers and IR receptors. Aside from artillery, which will be firing flairs, with colours varying to indicate type of round, you’ll all be firing blanks with casualties recorded based on the laser data.

HQ will set up in the eastern town. A1, A2, B1, B3, C2, C3, D1 and D4 will also deploy there.
A3, A4, B2, B4, C1, C4, D2 and D3 will deploy in the western town.
A and C Proper will deploy in the west, B and D in the east. I’ll have over all command of the east, and Stratcom Jorin will have command over the west.” He nodded to his second in command as he said this, despite all present knowing exactly whom he meant.

“All B Kompanys will immediately begin recon sweeps, while D2 and C3 will set about improving our position, if necessary. C 2 and c4 are to remain ready to move out unless we encounter resistance in the area of the beachhead. Beyond that, the plans will be developed, as more information becomes available.

More maps, details, etcetera are in your briefing packages.

Any questions?”

There were none.

“Very well, dismissed. You have three hours to prepare. See you then.”

six hours later, and everything was in place. Landing points Est and Wor were established and the beachhead positions taken up. paired platoons of ALAVs and MBCs were sent down each road to the nearest intersection. west from point Wor, toward the southern airfield, and north east from point Est to secure the rout connecting the two points. all up the entire cavalry battalion was sent out scouting a perimeter and gathering what intelligence might be available in the vicinity.

the artillery were kept limbered and ready, as ordered, and the grenadiers needed only to board their ALAVs to deploy where needed.

the com-techs, logisticians, and other command and support elements were all set up. already the techs were doing their best to break opposition communications protocols and access any available satellites they could hijack for reconnaissance purposes. this, while simultaneously attempting to ensure that their own networks were secure.

"soon" Devijoh spoke quietly as he watched all this business around him "we'll have enough information and we shall move."

Near the Southern airfield: Agatta, Osteia

Two Osteian quad scout bikes were preforming a routine patrol set up on the first day when one of the drivers stopped and set there letting his bike idle, the second bike stopped behind him,

"Why you stop!" the driver in the rear called out..

"What the fuck is that!"

The driver in the rear replyed, heat waves comming off shapes were seen in the distance and one shape became more clear as it elevated,

"It's a scout bike! call it in!"

"Charlie, Echo 2-5, we have scout recon possibly following units , over"

"Charlie, Echo 2-5, we need a visual, over"

"What else you see Mack?"

The driver in the front climbed on the seat of the quad and stood up with his bonoculars,

"Follow up is hanging back but they are commin!...i see..LAVS..LAVS! lets get out of here!"

The driver in the rear called it in then the two bikes wipped around and sped off towards the Southern Airfield they were scouting for.....

Osteian HQ:

General Baltimore received a report that enemy units were spotted moving inland,

"Very good, carry on Captian"

"Sir!" He saluted and left....

Angermann Beachhead: Flyover
Three F-22's flew over the Angermann beachhead very fast and very low in a tight formation,

Pilot 1
"Why didn't our boys stop em' comming in?"

Pilot 2
"Because they don't know where they are at"

Pilot 1
"Roger...there! heading towards the airfield..im calling it in"

Pilot 2
"Go for it, but i don't think we are suppose..

He was cut off...

Pilot 1
"This is Supersix 4, supersix 4, we have heavy enemy movement, multiple targets at these co-ordinates...0967-4-9er..light armored vehicles approaching southern airfield"

Carrier "Victory II":
"Captian Nevin cease what you are doing, this excercise don't involve the airforce, you DO NOT have clearence to report enemy postions over!"

Pilot 1
"Ahh christ, roger that coomand!"

Osteian HQ:

General Baltimore was going over some maps when he heard his radio with a report from an F22,

"God damn it!! somebody fucked up! ...god damn airforce! i want that pilots name, rank, unit and serial number!! i want his ass! NOW!"

An aid rushed out of the tent after giving a salute....

"Way to screw this up..already.." The general was outraged...

Artillary battery, Delta:

"We got our first co-ordinates, load em up and wait for my order!" Bellowed an artillary officer...

The loading process went rather quickly and the 105mm Howitzer barrels went to their correct elevation,

"Fire!"

**BOOM,BOOM,BOOM,BOOM ect..** Sparks/ smoke errupted from the artillary's barrells...

Southern Airfield:

A loud alarm started to sound from the air control tower, troops scattered all over the place rushing to their positions cocking their weapons while on the move. There were sandbag MG emplacements and foxholes.....

Wor point
"Stratcom, we have contact at junction one on the road northwest of point Wor. be advised, this position is under indirect artillary bombardment. we have one MBC down, one LAV down and one LAV requiring repairs to function. your orders sir?"

"humm... hold your position, Skwadi. C proper is on the way, B2 5th and B4 5th on their way. 1st headed for your position. C1 and C4 1st and 2nd also en rout to your position. initiative action until arival of C proper."

"Sir, yes, sir!"

the com link went silent, and Stratcom Jorin spoke to an under officer "pass that information to the Kommander, would you?"

current front line, contact point

"well, boys, looks like we get to have some fun." A-Skwadi Jenvier laughed as she spoke "we have 'permission' from on high to go wiled while until the artillery gets here.. so lets do so, shall we?"

her platoon of mbc's had quickly got out of the area the enemy guns were actually Targeting, and the LAVs had backed up, not wishing to present larger targets. the rest of their group was back with them.

a chorus of affirmative responses came back.

"all right then, lets ride!"

the platoon took off to a chorus of chears, and some bright spark triggered a radio to play an old style drum call for a charge. they essentially ignored the artillery shells falling around them. anything that could hit them would do so by accident at best.

"all righty... those scouts first" Jenveir spoke over the platoon's local com network. "A squad, you may use rockets if a viable opportunity presents it's self. all others, do not, repeat, NOT fire rockets on those scouts, and keep an eye out for other targets. we'll let the big boys deal with the artillery."

"A squad acknowledges."
similar responses came back from the other squads.

Artillary postion Delta:

As the barrage continued a Captian stood with a Lt, and a sergent over a large map,

"Alright..this is the location of the bombardment, where the hell..did they come from..."

The artillary Captian moved his finger down the map from the location they had been firing at,

"Alright, have guns 4,5,6,7 fire in this direction..we'll get them on the run..that beach is their only possible tactical landing area and if they are moving back..we'll hit em' on the retreat...have 1,2,3 and 8 let em have it for another minute then shift their fire..here.."

He pointed at a direct route from the area that was being hit now back towards the beach,

"Give it to them for 5 minutes then cease fire"

"Sir!" The men replyed then left to carry out their orders....

The sound of the artillary fire echoed through the air, a brief pause allowing the new co-ordinates to be given then the barrage started up again...

North of Southern airfield:

Two more platoons of infantry were on their way to reinforce the airfield from the north by way of the suitable amount of 3 ton transport trucks, escorted by four quads, and three humvees, their ETA was five minutes.

General Baltimore's HQ:

All that could be heard from inside the command tent was the General chewing out the pilot, it was clear he was grounded for today and to be sent back to the carrier for disiplinary action, which would probably mean confined to quarters or cleaning detail.

The scouts on the quads gunned it towards the airfield,

Rear quad:
"God damn it! here they come...FUCK" Shouted one of them over his comms..

Front quad:
"We got a lead on them! pick it up, pick it up!! your falling behind! common god damn it!"

Rear quad:
"I can't i can't! im already going as fast as i can!! im all out!!"

Front quad:
"God damn it! shit!...we an't gonna lose them!..the base is still 10 minutes away..stop!"

Rear quad:
"I was thinking the same thing!"

Both bikes came to a halt and the riders dismounted taking their M4's off their backs ducking behind their bikes, they cocked them and looked attheir targets through their 4xscopes,

"This is it!"

"Single shot...wait for it...wait for it...OPEN FIRE!"

The sound of single M4 rounds going off echoed through the air, one after the other both men squeezed off....

"This is Charlie, echo 2-5 we are making a stand! no chance we could outrun these scout bikes...we are enguaging the enemy over!"

"Charlie, echo 2-5, we will send support, over.."

"Thats not nessasary Hq! they are commin in strong i don't give us long if we don't cap some of these suckers..we'll get as many as we can over!"

"Hang in there 2-5, Blackhawk on the way...extraction over!"

"Roger! over and out!!"

MBC platoon, northwest engagement

"viable shots, viable shots! A squad, rockets, Fire!"

six rockets tubes discharged the moment the quads slowed sufficiently for a hit to be reasonably likely. of course, they only fired flares, which weren't quite so impressive as the real things.. but it would still cause the scouts problems so far as the simulation was concerned.

"platoon, short bursts. only fire on live targets, if possible. by line of squad. go!"

the platoon formed up into 5 waves of three and kept heading towards the scouts, guns ready to fire on anything the rockets hadn't taken out.

LAV platoon, north west engagement

"PK, the barrage is creaping closser."

"well, you heard the stratcom.. untill C propper arives, it's local initative. anyone get a read on what angle those shells are comeing in from?"

"rough directions from analyzed burst data, sir."

"right. we move out by squads. stay off the road, scatter. we're in recon/S&D mode. the two squads with losses will merge, leave one LAV behind to tow the 'damaged' one out of the barrage and back to base."

"yessir! Platoon! RSD by squads! b and d merge on b, detail one to tow the damage'd LAV back home! move out!"

intersection north of point Est

"Kommander, intersection secure. connecting rout seccure. orders sir?"

"leave your Lav's to keep it open. MBC platoons to scout to next intersection north. grenadier and artillary support to follow."

Scouts:

"Rockets!! shit!" the corporal yelled out

Both men made a run for it but by the time they were hit the private took a knee as his laser equipment flashed,

"Damn it Johnson..your on your own.."

He took a knee then fell to the ground pretending to be dead, the other man also dropped...

"M203....don't fail me now"

He loaded a flashbang/mock exercise grenade into the launcher of the M4, crawling towards the four wheeler he could see five waves of three men approaching, he cocked the weapon and rolled on the ground,

"SAY ELLO TO MY LIL' FRIEND!"

The grenade fired at one of the waves striking the ground before them,

**BOOM!!** **Ratatatatatatatat**

The scout rolled back,

"Holy shit! i think i got some!" aaaahahahaaaaaa yeah!"

"Nice Scarface quote..." the one playing dead said..

"Ive always wanted to do that!..now..shhh"

The soldier quickly reloaded the grenade launcher.....

Most Southern intersection, near airfield:

Ten marines, 1 "Coyote" APC, three four wheelers and a sandbag MG bunker sat in the middle of the crossroads, there was also four 80mm Mortar's. Just then a marine on a four wheeler rushed up the road and stopped, the driver let it idle.....

"Shit load of troops commin up that road...."

"Thank you sergent!" replyed a marine Captian giving him a salute...

The man pulled his bike off to the side and dismouted, he walked over and knelt behind some sandbags coking his M4.....

Lone Scout:

The soldier seen the rockets comming,

"Shit!" he yelled and dove out of the way...

But it was too late, the rocket got him and his targeting gear was going crazy, he just lay there on the ground beside his commrade,

"Ahaha, nice stand.."

"Ahaha, shit.."

Southern Crossroads:

The Captian at the crossroads remained calm although cannon and machinegun fire echoed through the air,

"Just as we thought, they are trying to dodge our mortars..full speed..SMOKE!"

The four mortar's deployed smoke rounds creating a smoke screen,

"Smoke grenades!!" yelled a sergent..

The ten marines deployed smoke grenades lobbing them towards the enemy who was comming in full force, the smoke filled the air,

"Corporal! hit it!"

A corporal with a detenator turned the handle, suddenly the minefield in place was triggered by one blast, explosions errupted all around the enemy positions,

"This is sector 3,7,8 charlie Nill! bring em over!"

The sound of helicoptors could be heard in the distance, and from behind the MG bunker all along the top of the hill came Osteian infantry soldiers carrying LAWS, some with light machineguns, mortar fire sounded and from the Osteian point of veiw a long line of "Coyote's" came up the straight road from the south,

"This is sector 3,7,8 charlie, Nil! we are hitting them with everything we got, they sped up because of the mortors as we expected, we got them with their pants down!"

Yelled the captian over the radio, the sound of three LAWS going off sounded behind him, two UH-60's flew over and hovered over the ambush point, their rodders blowing the thick smoke back....

More troops were inbound from a North direction down the other fork in the road.....

"They took the bait over, 3,7,8 Charlie keep you posted, over"

The 50 caliber machinegun chattered from the sandbag bunker along with many other weapons.....

"yessir! B42 acknowledges change of mission, will assist B22" click click

"all right guys, take this guy out then we swing south to help out the heavies. B squad has permission to employ rockets."

"B squad copies rocket active."

one of b squad's bikes fired it's rockets at the lone infantry man as the line came towards him, guns firing on short bursts.

southern intersection.

"PK, d squad reports HV [hostiles visual], mixed force, includes APC and bunker, other specifics unknown. they know we're here."

"PK copies that, skwadi." click click "Ejin, we've got enemies. there's an APC in play... think your guys would like to play?"

a chorus of affirmative responses was followed by 10 Lavs and 30 CMBs roaring into a higher gear and headed towards the Osteian position at full speed. as soon as the opportunity presented it's self, all 10 LAVs opened up with four of their grenade dischargers and their auto-cannon, as well as laying down suppressing fire with their MGs. the bikes spread out to the flanks, intending to envelope and out flank the enemy position before adding their own weaponry to the cacophony.

Lone Scout:

The soldier seen the rockets comming,

"Shit!" he yelled and dove out of the way...

But it was too late, the rocket got him and his targeting gear was going crazy, he just lay there on the ground beside his commrade,

"Ahaha, nice stand.."

"Fuck off!" he said laying his head back so it touched the ground....

"Ahaha, shit.."

Southern Crossroads:

The Captian at the crossroads remained calm although cannon and machinegun fire echoed through the air, it struck the MG bunker was hit and it's occupants must have been "Killed"

"Just as we thought, they are trying to dodge our mortars..full speed..SMOKE!"

The four mortar's deployed smoke rounds creating a smoke screen,

"Smoke grenades!!" yelled a sergent..

The ten marines deployed smoke grenades lobbing them towards the enemy who was comming in full force, the smoke filled the air, but four of the marines were hit before they could take cover

"Corporal! hit it!"

A corporal with a detenator turned the handle, suddenly the minefield in place was triggered by one blast, mock mines errupted all around the enemy positions,

"This is sector 3,7,8 charlie Nill! bring em over!"

The sound of helicoptors could be heard in the distance, and from behind the MG bunker all along the top of the hill came Osteian infantry soldiers, some of which were dropping from enemy fire as soon as they came over the top carrying LAWS, some with light machineguns, mortar fire sounded and from the Osteian point of veiw a long line of "Coyote's" came up the straight road from the south,

"This is sector 3,7,8 charlie, Nil! we are hitting them with everything we got, they sped up because of the mortors as we expected, we got them with their pants down!"

The coyote was struck and ceased firing,

"God damn it!"

The 50 caliber machinegun chattered from the sandbag bunker as another crew manned the weapon....

"Supressing fire!!" yelled the captian

Two more men at his sides dropped then he took cover..."Holy shit!"

Wor point
"Stratkom! local proper of southern cavalry is requesting fire and infantry support."

"is C proper ready yet?"

"yessir!"

"he can have it then. transfer targeting priority command to PKs in southern force, sut cav loc prop has override on target priority, unless the battery it's self is engaged or myself or the RK orders otherwise. deploy... oh... A1, D3 to provide transportation as far forward as possible. A proper to go with them"

"yessir!"

Cav vs Ambush

two MBC squads down on the left, a single bike lost on the right, two ALAVs immobile but still able to fire, one still mobile but so badly damaged it was going to have to go back regardless, and two gone completely. this was NOT how these things were meant to go. but it was how it was happening.

"all squads, all squads, independant action. full evasive. i repeat, full evasive. artillery incoming, friend and foe. MBC, concentrate on the coyotes. we need them DEAD."

planning was gone. this was now chaos. the remaining bikes zipped back and forward across the battle-field, spitting rockets at the coyotes when given the chance, and machine gunning infantry. the ALAVs started pumping out smoke of their own from their grenade dischargers, and scattered in the resulting cover, continuing to pour MG rounds into any infantry man they came across, and AT into anything harder.
