The map of the Empire projected across the wall of the High Council chamber within the Imperial palace in Arrandin shrank slowly, spreading out into a map of entire region of Mediterranica. Two of the High Council stood within the dimly lit room, gazing over the projection.

‘That’s Corbournne there,’ said the first, General Caracas, pointing towards the outcrop of land, which sat off the Empire’s East border. ‘What do you make of their sudden interest in having relations?’

The second man, the Yallakian Emperor himself, glanced briefly over the printout of the recent message from Corbournne he held grasp in his left hand before replying. ‘I don’t know, but as long as we don’t influence, control them or at least have some kind of arrangement with them, they could be a threat to our Eastern coastline.’

‘Will I send a reply.’

‘No, General, I’ll do it.’

No, though I cannot attend myself, I will be happy to send a representative to your nation for negotiations. It is always better to meet people face to face when trying to begin new relations. They will be arriving by plane within the next twenty-four hours.

Signed

OOC: Just assume that the representative has arrived, so we can skip the whole traveling too part (done too many of those latey).

Prime Minister Benjamin Shockey welcomed the foreign representative from the Empire of Yallak into his office. After engaging in the customary handshake, he had a seat.

"May I be one of the first to welcome you to Abercrombie, the capital of the fine nation of Corbournne."

‘Thank you, Prime Minister,’ answered the representative, dressed in the full regalia of the Imperial Army of Yallak. ‘I am General Caracas,’ he continued, also taking a seat, ‘the Emperor sends his apologies for not being able to speak to you in person.’

‘Now, you spoke of wanting to engage in non-hostile endeavors to further the interests of our nations?’ the General questioned, getting straight down to business. He was not a man to sit around engaging in idle banter, no matter what the situation.

"You are most correct, sir. You see, we here in Corbournne are no longer ones to ignore their neighbors. Since we have no 'issues' with your great empire, we would like you to sign a non-aggression pact. Also, if you would like to go further, we could set up a form of trade, and even go so far as to sign a mutual alliance, protecting each other from our enemies."

‘A non-aggression Pact would be acceptable to the Empire,’ stated the General, sitting up straighter in his chair, ‘and I’m sure our two government can negotiate some form of trade arrangements, however, and don’t take this personally, but we cannot even begin consider any form alliance with your nation at this time. Yallak has very strict policies on how it involves itself with foreign nations, and any form of national commitment would only be considered once a firm degree of confidence and trust has been established between us and your nation.’

"I understand General, but a non-agression pact is more than acceptable. I will have one of my aides write up a draft. I believe we can allow some of our lessers to work out specifics on trade at a later date." With a wave of his hand, Shockey summoned an aide stationed at the door of the room who began writing the outline of the agreement quite legibliy on a piece of paper.

‘I believe we can too,’ the General replied, watching on with interest as the aide started writing away at the table. ‘Devising trade arrangements never has been one of my favourite pastimes.’ Actually, I’d rather have a battleground and an enemy army any day over trade agreements, he added to himself.

'Just out of curiosity though, what kind of materials or resources will Corbournne be offering in any kind of trade?’

"Same here, General, I used to be a Field Marshal myself, and then the President persuaded me to take this political post." The Prime Minister sighed as if reminiscing on fond memories, "Anyway, the U.S.S. of Corbournne has much to offer, including silver, spices, fish, and iron, along with many other trade-worthy resources."

'Field Marshal to Prime Minister?' Caracas questioned. 'I suppose such a thing would be strange in some countries but I must confess that is not so unusual to me. After all, I am Imperial Lord as well as a General, what you would probably call a mayor or governor of a city.’

Returning to the topic at hand the General continued, ‘Our Governments will have plenty to discuss then because the Empire has plenty of resources to trade in return.’
