Adventure among the stars. (FT, Semi-open)

"'Ey Mike, I'm pickin' up a ship. We're not within visual range yet, but the course and speed implies prey."

"Sound general quarters and set course to intercept at full speed." replied the captain.

As the alarm bells sounded throughout the ship, the crew scrambled to armories to equip space suits and weapons. As soon as they were equipped, they ran to their battle stations.

The ship, named Adventure by her captain, was an old Bryn Shanderan Usagi class heavy cruiser (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/12385575/) originally commissioned by a family of wealthy nobles to protect their trading ventures. Some time into the ship's career as an anti-pirate escort, the ship was herself boarded by pirates and captured after hours of deck to deck fighting and the noble captain was slain in singles combat. From there, her name was changed from Helm's Eye to Adventure, and the once pirate hunter was now a pirate flagship. After a short, uneventful and unprofitable time under the capturing pirate, the crew mutinied and elected the current captain, Michael "The White Blade" White.

The Adventure quickly closed in on the slowly moving merchant vessel, which was in a ballistic orbit transfer trajectory. She was on her way from the mining outposts around one of the system's gas giants to the capital of the system, Forodren Cormandor. Unfortunately for the merchant, that meant passing through the small, dense asteroid belts that separated the gas giants from Forodren Cormandor and many pirates or other folk of questionable morals called home. The military made regular patrols of the belts, however, so Adventure and her crew would have to work fast.

"Entering visual range. Looks like a Lute (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/15100578/). Probably packing ore, mail, and machinery."

"Sounds like a shitty haul. Nonetheless, I guess that's better than nothing. Prepare for battle."

The pirate cruiser quickly closed in on the small merchant vessel. As soon as she was noticed, the cargo ship turned to flee, but a pair of warning shots across the bow put an end to that idea almost immediately. As the merchant cut it's engines, the Adventure pulled up along side her, training her guns on the engines and bridge of the smaller vessel. Boarding tubes were shot across the gap between the ships, and boarding parties stormed across.

"Oh shi-"

As the pirates entered the ship, they were quickly and surprisingly cut down by the weapons of waiting Bryn Shanderan marines. The ship had been a trap, and the pair of Kusanagi class frigates (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/32843175/) that had just de-cloaked next to the cruiser, spinal guns aimed at the hull, were proof of that. The lead frigate broadcast a message to the cruiser.

We have your ship surrounded, out gunned, and our marines are slaughtering your boarding parties. Surrender immediately or we'll be forced to destroy you. This is your only warning.

"...We're fucked. If we fight, we're fragged. If we run, we're fragged. If we surrender, we'll all be hanged."

"Fuck you. We can get out of this. When I was in the Navy, I was on one of the ships that got caught in the Axis gate accident. I remember what the officers were saying caused the whole thing, and I think I can use that to our advantage."

I'm afraid that would not be such a good idea, Locust. This ship is currently packing several hundred tons of refined Hermium. If you fire on this ship, you'll end up destroying yourselves and any ship within a few light seconds of here. If you attempt to board us, we'll blow it up ourselves. I suggest that you call off your troops and escort us to the gate so we can get out of here. This is your only warning.

"What? We're not carrying any Hermium."

"No, but they don't know that."

"You don't think that they'll buy that, do you?"

"I don't think that matters. All that does is that they do."

I see. Our marines are standing down. You'll get your escort.

"...You've got to be shitting me."

"Well I'll be damned. They bought it."

Under the escort of the two frigates and the freighter, the Adventure headed to the hyperspace gate in orbit over Forodren Cormandor. After the frigates contacted the gate control ship, all traffic was stopped and the gate was made open for the cruiser. Adventure was free to leave the system, and she did. Unfortunately for Adventure's crew, the gate control ship had targeted an empty system far from Bryn Shanderan or allied assets for the cruiser's destination. Worse, the cruiser was commissioned for in-system use and lacked a FTL drive. It would seem that they were marooned in an unfamiliar star system.

Stranded far from home and completely clueless as to her location, Adventure began to scan the system to find out where they were, who owned it, and see if there was any prey around.

OOC: The Adventure has just been sent into a random system. Lacking an FTL drive, she'll try to capture a ship that has one. If she manages to get one, she'll eventually leave the system and head to another one.

Once someone steps forward to claim ownership of the system, I'd prefer that only the owner and those who would have a legitimate reason for being there take part in the thread until Adventure leaves and heads to another system, at which point the previous restriction applies but to the new system and perhaps those who had the misfortune of interacting with the ship previously.

Also: No, you cannot destroy the ship without clearing it with me first.
