IC:

It was a cold, Scandinavian winter morning, the waves cresting nicely against the rocky shores of Svalbard, the sun barely shining through the clouds. The village on Svalbard was small, no more than 1,000 people, and the few fishing boats they had were out trying desperately to find fish. It was quite a remote village, and visitors were only seen once or twice a year, so the village people didn't know what to do when in the distance the outlines of several large ships could be seen. As the vessels approached, the village people could see large cylinders sticking out, and many people on board a few, brandishing large black pieces of some kind of metal. Little did they know what was in store for them...

Aboard HMS Gothberg

"It is time. Begin gunfire."

"Aye aye sir! Positions.......fire!" BOOMBOOMBOOM! screamed the small but effective guns of the Visby corvette. It had already sunk two fishing ships of the Svalbardians, and now a whole village awaited them.........

"Prepare the landing craft. I want this to be quick and efficient. Not like we're expecting resistance, but this'll be a good excercise. Mayhaps a few promotions..."

"Aye aye sir. Landing craft! Landing craft! Landing done in two minutes. Go!"

The marines arrived on the rocky beach in exactly two minutes time to a city ablaze.

OOC: Just for your info, not meaning to nitpick or something:
Due to the extreme north location, polar night lasts from October 26 to February 15, hence the sun never shines a winter morning.
It's an extremely dry climate up there, it rains more in the Sahara Desert than snowing/raining in Svalbard.

I may come up with an IC-post later, when this is officially known IC.

The invasion was over in a few days. Several thousand forces of the Scandinavian Army had been quickly assembled and launched to take the island as quickly as possible. The island's couple thousand inhabitants were either brutally murdered or enslaved. But something else was also going on, something secret...

To All Nations of the World,

The Scandinavian State of Futuris wishes to tell all nations of this Earth a new border in the seas of Svalbard. A new maritime border has been established 400 miles in every direction of Svalbard. I say again - DO NOT TRESPASS ON 400 MILES WITHIN SVALBARD. Any countries that do not heed this will be given one warning to withdraw the vessel/aircraft, before it will be destroyed. This is by no means a joke.

This is for your safety only. If any delays are caused by having to go around it, we propose to pay 50% of the cost of the delays. We hope that you will agree to this small favor of ours. Thank you.

The Expanse finds this need close to being reasonable-though through one exception. 400 miles for Svalbard is a ridiculous amount of area to be claimed as maritime and air borders to not be passed through. The Expanse 'recommends' that Futuris either allow traffic through the zone, or reduce it to a more logical amount, such as a 50 or 75 mile extended zone.
Otherwise, the state of Futuris will likely be paying for many delays.

To the Saharan Confederate Expanse,

To All Nations of The World,

The first 400 miles are as a first and foremost measure. In other words, if a vessel or aircraft of another country passes this border, we will simply send a message to this vessel/aircraft, kind of telling them of the situation, and wishing them on their merry way. They can pass through here without any threats or anything; they will simply be monitored. This border is not heavily, if at all at times, patrolled. 150 miles, and a little more urgent message will be sent, explaining the situation once more, and perhaps talking things over with the said country, just to make sure everything is okay (perhaps, the ship had a mutiny or something, and is headed for Svalbard to rest, etc.). Aircraft will be closely monitored, but otherwise, most nations can pass through (the only ones that can't are ones that I feel hostilites to, etc.). At 100 miles however, there will be a strong message to turn back, warning of the closely approaching border, and contacting the nation of the vessel/aircraft. At 75 miles, a threat of retaliation and a very strong message to the vessel/aircraft, our Armed Forces will have been alerted, and on high standby. Constant contact will be held with the ship, urging strongly to turn back. At 50 miles, the vessel/aircraft will be reminded one last time to turn back. If this vessel/aircraft does not turn back when reaching the 45 mile mark, it will be destroyed.

We are sorry for any confusion that we may have caused, and indeed, for a misuse of words to clearly explain our intentions. We have decided to only pay for delays inside the 150 miles (50%), since from 150-400 miles, your country can still pass through without any real 'warnings'.

SIC:

"Herr Chancellor, there has been reports from the Scandinavians. They have invaded the Svarlbard Islands. Other then that, we have no information, they seem to not want any information on the island to get out." Admiral Herman Schrodinger said to Chancellor Christof Klein. The Chancellor's face stayed the same calm and collected face he always had. It would seeme to those not used to his presence that he did not care. That was not the case at all, the Chancellor didn't show any weakness, be it emotion or tactical. He calculated all the odds and problems before he moved. He was cautious, too cautious some would say. After a minute of thinking the Chancellor spoke.

"Send U33 and U34 to Svarlbard. I want as much intel on this as possible. The Type 212 is perfect for this mission, as it's virtually undetectable by the Scandinavians. Also, before you try and disuade me, might I remind you that they are on an Island in the middle of ocean. Away from most civilization. What do you think they are doing on that Island? Whatever it is, it can't be good. That is why I am having you send U33 and U34 to Svarlbard, understand?" The Chancellor said. The Admiral was silent for a while before saluting the Chancellor and leaving to do what he was told. The Chancellor leaned forward in his chair and folded his hands in front of his face. He thought deeply on possible consequences should this mission fail, but he was willing to take a chance of war over not being prepared for an unknown threat.

SIC to me

Commander Andersson looked over the map of the island and its surrounding waters. The faint light from the newly constructed military bunker was enough for the Commander to see the outlines of submarine and vessel models placed in strategic intervals on the map. He moved a Gotland class submarine model a little over to secure the patrol perimeters.

"Sir?"

Andersson looked up to the voice.

"What is it?"

"We have completed the temporary airfield. The Saab JAS 39 Gripen's are being transferred from the harbor to the airfield as we speak. We have transferred almost all of the other equipment into The Cave, and construction on the blast doors has begun."

"Good, good...things are going along faster than I thought they would. I assume that the coasts have been readily fortified by lighter forces, until The Cave has been completed?"

"Yes, sir. Our marines and main infantry forces have installed several anti-aircraft systems, as well as anti-ship systems. We will build anti-landing defenses after The Cave has been completed, yes."

"Very well. Here, this is the new patrol routine of Svalbard. I want you to send the order for our vessels to start in 30 minutes. Take the map with you, and copy down the coordinates of the patrol routines. Our waters are to be secure, and have our JAS 39 Gripen's start their patrol routine as soon as they can."

"Yes, sir."

"Yes, what is it?"

"Loading into The Cave is complete. Blast doors are almost done, we'll give it a week at most to secure it through the island's main computer system, that is being established as we speak."

"Good. Are the patrol routines secure?"

"Yes, sir. Not even a fish could pass undetected. Unless this fish had a stealth system, was extremely silent, and also deadly to our own vessels. Hehe-" (*hint hint:rolleyes: *)

"Don't give me the bullshit, we don't have time. I want an opinion from Scandinavian Military Command to assess the perimeters, and get a satisfaction rating from each vessel's commander and crew."

"Yes, sir. I'll be right on it."

"Herr Kapitän, while we have been using passive sonar to detect Scandinavian Vessels and avoid them, we've discovered something odd." An Ensign said. The Kapitän looked at the ensign for a moment before asking what was odd.

"Well, Herr Kapitän, there is a cave that was not known by our geographic infomation. Furhter yet, the Scandinavians seem to be very interested in it. Sonar pings indicate that their most likely using it for something, what that is we can not know." The Ensign said. The captain thought for a moment. Then he decided on a course of action.

"Radio U34, tell her we are checking out this cave. I want her to check out the other side of the island for more possible caves." The Captain said. The rest of the crew saluted and scrambled to get their jobs done. They would run silent directly into the cave itself and most lilely surface when the coast was clear. Then they would investigate this cave.

OOC: I'm making this "Cave" up, even though it could exist in RL. For future reference, this is how it looks. There are 2 main entrances to the cave, one on land, and one on water. The land one is basically a harbor opening that is very hard to spot. I've got mainly submarines guarding it, so as not to be seen. Once in, it is a long tunnel that can have four submarines traversing it in one place at a time. It is completely filled with water, until finally it empties into an underground cavern (aka The Cave), where I have my top secret harbor. Note that the tunnel and secret harbor will have sensors in case anything bypasses my submarines, but not too many. The harbor is very important to my plans in the Cave, and there will be much activity by the harbor, with all my men and military all around. The second entrance is on land, about 20 miles inland, a huge cavernous opening that is currently being secured by my 'blast doors'. It goes into a huge cavern, which has a small underground lake on the left side (the same one as before). There are innumerable tunnels and adjacent smaller caves leading from the main cavern, that are already being explored by my scouts and such. Most of the equipment is being stored in the main cavern. That's basically it. Question: Is it okay for me to make up this geographic feature on Svalbard?

"Herr, Kapitän, there seems to be alot of activity at this cave. Submarines seem to patrolling around it. I wouldn't put it past them to put other devices to help defend the place. Motion sensors and the such." The Ensign said. The Captain looked at all the readings and thought to himself. They were slowly nearing the cave. They had to go under silent mode, so as to not tell the Scandinavians they were near.

"If they do have motion sensors, I would doubt they would set to catch the movement of something moving this slowly. We are barely going 4 knots. I wish silent mode would move faster. But those Submarines are going to be a problem." The Captain said. He thought a moment about how would he get the subs to move out of there patrols, and not allow them to know they were there. An idea suddenly hit him, it was a risky one.

"Well, hear me out on this one. I want you to launch our smallest Torpedo on the lowest setting at the rocks along to the coast to the east. Put a time detonation on it. Set it for 25 Minutes after launch, this should give us ample time to move our of the incoming sub patrols. This should also draw the rest of the Scandinavians patrols there as well, so when the explosion goes off, I want you to get us out of here as fast as we can on Silent Running Mode." The Captain said. The rest of the crew had no objections and began to work to get it ready.

"There was...some kind of...large explosion near the shore several miles to the north of our current position. The source is unidentified."

"No sir, it sent shockwaves that were picked up by our sensors. Submarines around the area are also reporting this."

"Well...contact the Commander. Start the engines. We're going to investigate this 'explosion'."

"Yes, sir. Should I contact the other ships?"

"Yes. Circle the area of the explosion, make sure that whatever caused it doesn't get away. I want every submarine at that area."

"What about the tunnel....sir?"

OOC: Actually, partially yes. I liked the idea of protecting things (seeds or military equipment) from worldwide disaster (i.e. nuclear war). And it also ties in with the fact that Svalbard is in the middle of an ocean, where I can conduct all my top secret experiments without detection. Sort of :p It's comparable maybe to Area 51 for the U.S. or something like that.

"The explosion went off without a hitch, Herr Kapitän. And, just like you planned, the Scandinavians are all rushing there. The sub patrols are currently heading there right now." The Ensign said. The Captain sighed in relief, his gamble had worked. Now all he had to do was get into the tunnel and not get caught while they were in it. That meant going really slow.

"Make for the tunnel immediately. Once we get close I want this thing as silent and invisible as possible!." The Captain told his crew. The crew liked the enthusiam and worked as hard as they could. They were not going to get caught, not on their watch.

The Captain pondered about many things as his submarine returned back to the tunnel. What had caused the explosion? Was it a rival nation? No, no, surely not, they would have been spotted or picked up. Then what caused the explosion?

Thoughts like these troubled his mind when one of his advisors rushed up to him. He asked him what was the matter.

"Sir, we have picked up a faint signal of some sort. Near the tunnel."

The Captain was at once alert. "What kind of signal?"

"We don't know yet...it could have been a trace of our own, and yet it seems so...well, the crewmate that first saw it on our monitors said that it normally shouldn't be there."

"What else?"

"It seems odd that this signal should appear at the same time as the explosion, but the signal was very faint, and it disappeared quickly."

"Ahh...so there is no, concrete, evidence of anything?"

"Well, no, bu-"

"Then we can do nothing. We must wait and see if this 'signal' has anything to do with the explosion...perhaps it is all coincidence."

"Perhaps not..."

"Put the patrol on high alert. Don't alert the Commander, he is frustrated enough at the unknown cause of the explosion. For now, we wait and see."

"Yes, sir."

"Herr Kapitän, we're now entering the tunnel and as far as we know, we have not been spotted. But, because of the explosion, the Scandinavians are on high alert, so this had better be quick." The Ensign had said. The Captain thought about these words. If need be, his sub could stay submerged for 3 weeks without surfacing, but the information needed by the Confederation was supposed to be due back A.S.A.P.

"Continue as planned, and lets hope we can find some information on the reason behind this Tunnel and it's contents." The Captain said.

The Scandinavian submarine patrol glided through the waters as silent as death. They had spotted nothing, but nevertheless, it was all eyes and ears onboard. The Captain looked through the screen, thinking. Perhaps it is a coincidence. Perhaps nothing is amiss... but his soldier instinct told him otherwise. He sent for his advisor. When he arrived, the Captain addressed him quickly.

"I want all the submarines in a tight patrol pattern around the tunnel. If anything has gone in, it will not get out. Don't actually go in the tunnel, but I want the whole patrol on very high alert for signs of submarine movement inside the tunnel or our current position."

"Yes, sir. If...I may ask...you a question."

"Proceed."

"Well...why are we doing this? Surely, if anything was inside the tunnel, we would have picked it up miles ago."

"I am not so sure...I suspect that if this something is very stealthy, the explosion could have been a diversion. We will wait again. If my theory is correct, the submarine may have gotten in....but it will not get out. Not on my watch."

The Captain was liking this ensign more and more every passing hour. The kid was full of good technical ideas, but he wasn't that risky. The Torpedo explosion was the captains own idea, and one that may have endangered the whole mission or opened a hole wide enough for them sail through.

"Yes, let us run silent in here. I don't want the Scandinavians to know we're here. That would make finding the information the Confederation wants alot harder. I just wonder what the hell they are doing here..." The Captain said to now one in particular, but to everyone on the bridge. The Cave, Svalbard

"Slowly now, slowly! We don't want to damage any of this stuff!" yelled Kristjan Dahlberg, one of the main coordinators of the military base on Svalbard. The crane picked up the metal crates and set them down several meters away.

"Good, good. Go help those men over there."

Kristjan walked back towards his small tent in one of the many small caves and outlets from the big cave itself. He rested for a few minutes, watching as the captive Svalbardians, and also Scandinavians worked as quickly and efficiently as they could, moving equipment, setting up stations, and, of course, building the harbor.

The Cave, as it was fondly called, was a very big cavern, which had tunnels leading out of it into other caverns. Most of them were fairly small, but there were that that were just as large as the first cavern. Already, the tunnels leading to them were being enlarged and modernized. The Cave had one purpose for the Scandinavians - a top secret military base where all kinds of research could go into effect.

Cave 1, the original cavern, the only cave that could actually be accessed through an entrance without blowing up the mountainside, was where most of the naval research and testing was to be taken into effect. The harbor was going to be extremely modernized and one of the most advanced in the world. Underneath the ground, there were going to be control stations built, with windows to look through the water, and observe the testing of many of the new subs. In fact, the whole Cave would have underground caverns digged into even more than now. Everywhere, walls, ceilings, and floors would be added, security systems so tight that only a few in the country could get by. Overhead, platforms and a small dock would be built, complete with sensors and cameras. The whole place would be lighted, and a secondary tunnel exit could eventually be built from the small underground lake. Already, men were drilling into the ground, excavating, and making room for computers and control stations for the teams of scientists who would work here.

Cave 2 was where the aerial program would be. There was going to be a large opening in the top of the cave, with some of the world's most advanced stealth systems installed, an opening that could be closed and opened at will. The space program would also be here, and designs of satellites were already beginning to form. The SSF was about to enter the world stage with a space program. Since the ground floor of the cave, as well as platforms built on the walls would have to be used to store the actual aerial equipment, the control stations for all of these would be built either into the walls of the rock, or underneath the ground floor, security also at its best. There was a very small tunnel leading from the lake of Cave 1 to the lake of Cave 2, which right now was to small to fit any submarine in, but later, the demolition team could enlarge it, to fit in a secondary harbor in Cave 2.

And then, there was Cave 3. Little was known about it. Supposedly, there were to be blast doors installed between Cave 1 and Cave 3, and the walls of Cave 3 reinforced heavily with steel. It was rumored that there was one opening to Cave 3, not including the one from Cave 1. An opening that was not meant for getting in, but for something to get out. Only a few people were even allowed to go in there, high officials, with much power in the government. Rumors and gossip surrounded the mysteries of Cave 3. There was no water outlet into Cave 3, and no caves or tunnels leading from it. Whatever was in there, it was something very, very secret.

"Kristjan!"

Kristjan looked up to see his boss walking over to him.

"What are you doing, laying down! Get up and start working! How about you go help on those blast doors for now, huh?"

"Yes, sir. Sorry about that, I was just taking a litt-"

"I don't want to hear it. Go. You'll have time to rest later."

"Yes, sir."

"So, Ensign. What are we looking at here. This Cave is large, but is there more to it?" The Captain asked the smart Ensign. The Ensign quickly looked over his passive sonar readings and other instruments. He then spent the next couple of minutes making few calculations and revisions. After he was done he looked up at the captain and spoke.

"From my calculations, Herr Kapitän, there appears to be atleast two other caves as large as this one. There is also the possibility of their being numerous smaller caverns jutting from these caves." He said. The captain sat down and thought for a moment and then spoke.

"Up Periscope" He said and quelled any complaints quickly. Using the periscope he scouted out the cave from the Periscopes low view point. He was quite astonished at what he saw. Naval research was being done here at a blistering pace. Hulls of failed tests sat around waiting to be melted for scrap. Scientists and soldiers ran around doing this and doing that. He also spied a huge blast-door being constructed. He quickly brought the periscope down and made the crew ready to move out.

"We're heading for that partially completed blast-door. It's being build over one of entrances to one of the larger caverns. Whatever is in there, it must be very important to the Scandinavians." He said and the crew worked to get the job done.

There was no water outlet into Cave 3, and no caves or tunnels leading from it

To tunnels except the blast door entrance one, and then the 'secret' one, but, yeah, no water. I mean, there are still ways to find out what's in Cave 3, but all of them are extremely risky and pretty much impossible. Unless you're really, really creative. In the frigid waters of the underground lake, there was a man, working alone in a dry suit. He was toiling in the temperatures on the control station that was soon to be built, drilling steel in the right places, preparing for the explosives to be blown, which would simultaneously drop a dam to stop the water, creating a hole in the cave floor in which to built mainly the glass control station that would be looking into the water. Suddenly, a shadow of enormous size passedd behind him, silent but deadly. He saw it in the corner of his eye, something big, something huge. Terror seized him, and he was unable to turn around, his muscles frozen in place. Then, the shadow subsided, the feeling of ominous evil passed, and when he looked back, there was nothing there.

After his shift was done, he went back to his tent for a quick rest. A friend of his saw his face, white and pale, and asked him what was wrong.

"Well, during my shift, there was...I had a feeling of something going behind me, something...well, big. It scared me to death, because I didn't see it, but somehow, somehow, I felt it go by. I...don't kno-"

"Are you all right? You know, you need a rest. The work is tiring, and you are new to it. I had visions and hallucinations my first couple days. They go by, I tell you, you'll be fine. Take a moment to rest, here."

"Herr Kapitän, it appears as though we can't sail into the third cave. It appears that there is no opening in the water and the tunnel where that blast door is being built is on land." The Ensign said after looking over some data. The Captain swore out loud, much to the laughter of his crew. But he was seething because this made his mission that much harder. His ship was design for underwater stealth, not for land-stealth. He quickly set about thinking up a plan. After 15 minutes of thought and some quick conversations with members of the crew he decided on a quite unorthodox solution.

"Ensign, I want you to gather all the scuba gear we have and find as many crew members with scuba Experiance as possible. I may have found an answer to find out what's on the other side of that damned door." He said with his trademark smirk on his face.

IF I DO NOT SHOW UP AT YOUR LOCATION YOU ARE TO STAY AT THE CAMP WITHOUT DRAWING ATTENTION FROM THE ENEMY, I WILL POSSIBLY CONTACT YOU ON YOUR RADIO! EACH ONE OF YOU WILL HOLD A SMOKE GRENADE IN YOUR HAND, YOU ARE TO PULL THE PIN ONCE YOUR PARACHUTE HAS BEEN DEPLOYED AND YOU WILL NOT THROW IT, THIS IS TO AID IN CONCEALING YOU FROM THE ENEMY! Pilot tell the svalbardians to go and f**k themselves. Set the plane on auto pilot, and paracute out deploy all flares to draw their attention away from us, we'll let the plane get shot down and we will drop as many supplies as we can and you will go directly to where my soldiers have set up camp, UNDERSTOOD!" "Sir! Yes! Sir!" said the pilot, he proceeded to tell the svalbardians to "f**k themselves" several soldiers gave a brief chuckle and then jumped out of the plane deploying their parachutes, and pulling out smoke grenades, the pilots successfully dropped ammunition, food, water, several un-deployed tents, and other supplies, they deployed all flares from the plane, set it on auto pilot, and immediately bailed out with Ahmir Akbar. Shortly after the plane was shot down, and the remains of it landed somewhere in the mountains. The explosion knocked Ahmir Unconscious, and shrapnel killed both of the pilots, "shit..." said Ahmir before he lost consciousness.

OOC: AK-108's, okay, I'll ignore it until you tell me to respond to it. I get that too, when sometimes I have just enough time to type up a few words.

IC:

The Commander strolled around The Cave, inspecting equipment and most importantly, work rate. Everywhere he went, he had workers and soldiers saluting to him, and twice, he caught workers napping. They were quietly taken out of Cave 1 into Cave 3, past the blast doors, and never seen of again. This was a secret war, and if workers slept on the job now, they would sleep on the job when it was at a critical stage. And then.....well, then everyone would pay.

He finally arrived at the blast doors to Cave 3.

"Sir!" said one of the soldiers working on it, and gave a salute.

"Soldier! Tell me....how long until these are completed?" he asked him.

"Oh, I'd say five days, sir! They'll be reinforced at periodic intervals after that, but the base design should be done around then."

"Good, good....how long does it take, to say, open and close them?"

"Well, when we worked on the hinges, it took around a minute to fully open and close them. With the added weight when they're finished....I'd say around 2-3 minutes, on full open and close."

"It can't go any faster?"

"Well, sir, the hinges are reinforced with heavy steel, and the entire blast door is extremely strong, using steel, titanium, and an assortment of several metals and alloys, or so the experts tell me, to keep it immune to almost all types of weapons and disasters. If the hinges go any faster, then they'll probably break with the steel from all the stress of the weight."

"Very well. Continue with your work, you're doing a good job, soldier."

"Sir, yes, sir!"

The Commander continued on through Cave 1. He didn't need to, and didn't want to enter Cave 3 at the moment. For now, he needed to inspect Cave 1, Cave 2, and the harbor. He had recieved unsettling reports of strange activity around the harbor, including an unidentified explosion, and strange signals. He would look into it later, he told himself, now there was much work to do. But he had a nagging feeling....

IC:

The Commander was inspecting Cave 2 when he heard a shout. When he turned around, several high ranking officers were running up to him, their eyes displaying anything from fear to hatred.

"Sir! An MEC plane was caught inside the perimeter...apparently they didn't know of our recent statements, even if they were not so recent. Their plane crashed somewhere on the island. We heard a few incriminating words...."

"An MEC plane? Hmmm.......first. Check with Stockholm to talk with the MEC, make sure that the plane was theirs. Tell Them everything. Remember which phone line to use....."

"Second. Send Marines to secure the crash site and search for survivors. Maybe a few to patrol the beaches in case they paradropped before it landed."

"How many Marines, sir?"

"A few. We're not expecting survivors. But make it thorough with what you have."

"Yes, sir."

"Dismissed."

(the plane should be somewhere in the mountains, you can tg me since I don't have a factbook ready... yet. There should be a squad of 10 commandos, not including the commander. So thats eleven guys.

IC: Ahmir awoke hearing the sound of shouting in the distance shit he thought, he quickly hopped up and assumed a crouching position, he flipped the safety off on his AK-108 Assault Rifle, and set it to burst, went up to the nearby bodies of the dead pilots, and took any ammo they had off of them, he gave them a salute, muttered some prayers, and grabbed one of their radios, he decided to cremate their bodies after taking their dog tags. He quickly fled the area, due to the fact that he could hear men approaching. He flipped on his radio after he was a safe distance away from his fallen comrades, and whispered into it, "This is Sargent Ahmir Akbar speaking, do you copy team, what is your status?" he waited a moment, then he heard response "This is Corporal Abab Ila speaking, we are all O.K. just a few bruises and scratches, supplies have been retrieved sir." "Roger that, good work men, silence your weapons, we may be expecting company, and I don't want to draw to much attention, what is your location? Over." "We are located just south of your position, near the mountains sir, over." "Roger that. Switch your radio of now, over." "Confirmed sir." *click* Ahmir quickly proceeded to make his way south along the mountains as he switched his radio off as well. I just hope we don't screw up he thought.

"Hurry up soldiers! The plane should be somewhere around here...." yelled Tryggvi Blom, an experienced Marine. He had around 50 Marines with him, and had sent 50 others to look around the beaches and other areas for signs of paradropped MEC troops. He knew that there was no official declaration of war yet, but it would soon escalate into a full blown war if the MEC did not issue an official apology, as well as accept the termination of all soldiers on that plane. Evidence of activity on Svalbard could not be let out to anyone. The MEC soldiers would have to die.

He jumped up a couple steps to a ridge, and looked down. There! The plane! He issued a few orders to the Marines behind him, and started a silent approach towards the plane. He couldn't see any people, but he thought he had heard the sound of static just seconds before.....no. It was probably just his own radio. Nothing to worry about.

His soldier instinct told him otherwise...

Ahmir, who had taken cover behind some rocks, had found the airplanes remains, and 51 marines, he remembered the explosive that had been left on the plane, he saw the crate containing them, it was broken open, the Marines neared the plane, after checking his AR, he silenced it, and switched it to semi-automatic fire, and aimed at the explosives, he didn't plan on killing any of them, but creating a distraction instead, he readied a flashbang, and fired his rifle off 3 times, one of the rounds ricoched off of the fuselage, another grazed the crate and the third round hit the explosives, the explosives... exploded, and shrapnel from the plane flew out in all directions, injuring several marines, he then threw his flashbang, remembering to pull the pin, and covered his eyes before it landed, after it went off he ran like hell, switching his rifle back to burst fire, and took cover behind a large rock.

BOOM! Blom found himself on the ground, clutching his chest where a piece of shrapnel had grazed his skin. He looked around from his position. All of the Marines were lying down, observing the situation. A few, mostly the ones that were up front with him, were hurt, but the rest were okay. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a small black object flying through the air.

"INCOMING!!!!" he yelled at the top of his voice, and flung himself in the opposite direction. When he heard the click of the flashbang, and the blast of concussing light reached him, all he saw was white for a critical few seconds. If he had been facing the flashbang while it 'exploded' things would be much worse. After the intial fuzzy feeling, he looked towards where the flashbang had been thrown from. He could see several large rocks, but no person. He looked around for the rest of the Marines. Most were lying on the ground, looking at the sky, stunned by the flashbang. But a few, mainly those in the rear of the column, were standing up and looking around. Blom had less than 20 Marines with him against an invisible enemy. He walked towards them.

"Marines! Are you alright?" He didn't get a response from 50 men, instead, less than 20 nodded and yelled back to him. They managed to get in a group quickly, where Blom addressed the situation.

"I want 10 of you to stay with our fallen comrades. A few of them are hurt from the blast, but most are stunned from the flashbang. Protect them at all costs. The rest, come with me. There's something over in those rocks over there I want to find out. I think that's where the flashbang came from. We should be back in a minute or two. Then, we can inspect the plane. Understood?"

"Sir, yes, sir!"

"Good. Move out, soldiers." They started their approach towards the rocks, 10 experienced Marines weaving and waiving through the landscape towards the rocks just up ahead. Blom reached the first rock and brought out a hand grenade from his belt, pulled the ring, and through it over. When he had done this, he pulled out his G36, cocked it, and waited for the grenade to blow...

He pulled out a smoke grenade, pulled the pin, waited a few secons and hurled it towards the left side of the roc.k (OOC: From your men's point of view it'd be the right side of the large rock) Upon hearing it land on the ground, he checked his compass, and headed south.

edit: I think that Italy might have some in the near future, but unless all Italian forces learn English too (I'm not even sure if whoever is playing Italy is doing anything) then we can be pretty much sure that you're German if we catch your submarine.

ooc: You understand that a smoke grenade will not deter 10 Marines, right? Since this is Svalbard, there is a lot of snow, which means footprints. It's also night half the year around, so although my Marines may not see you outright, I have night vision too....btw, you should have like a couple (1-3) minutes headstart.
IC:

"Grenade incoming!" yelled Blom, and ducked down. It turned out to be a smoke grenade, and as the dark and curling smoke began to rise and fill the air, he too put on his night vision goggles. Under normal circumstances, Marines do not wear night vision goggles, but hear in Svalbard it was night half the year, so upon arrival from Norway, night vision goggles were issued to all Marines. He looked around. The smoke still clouded his vision, night vision did nothing against that. But whoever threw the smoke grenade would still be injured from the plane crash. They would not go far....

"Marines! Put on your goggles! Wait for the smoke to settle......it shouldn't be long. Try and move around to where there is less smoke, once you get out of the cloud, follow me!"

Blom set out towards the rock, and then to the right, where the smoke grenade initially came from and hit. He inched his way until he could see a bit better. Once he was through with the smoke, he noticed footprints in the snow, rather fresh.

"Hey, I've found something. Come over here...."

The Marines groped around in the dying smoke and followed to his voice. Once they too were through the cloud, they studied the footprints. One of them, more experienced in tracking, studied them closely, and looked around for more.

"They're still fresh....minutes at most. Whoever came through here is not far away."

"Do you know where they lead? Our goggles are a bit outdated, I'm not sure if the infrared works...."

"Yeah, just give me a sec.....sir." He studied the tracks a bit more, and walked around a bit. "Here. The person went this way."

ooc: You are still a considerable distance away from your men that paradropped - seeing as how it would take time for the plane to still fly at a fast rate before crashing - a distance of way more than a few miles. Also, there are a heck of a lot of caves in Svalbard, and if your plane was anywhere near my caves, it would have been shot out of the air before you could have paradropped - trust me. So unless your man can somehow find a way to your men through constant radio talk, there is no way that he can find you. And I doubt that you 'heard' the Germans, although that's up to Granate to decide if it's possible.

Right now we're in the mountains of Svalbard - your other men are on the beaches if I understood correctly from before - and now have moved their supplies to a cave on the beaches (or very very close by). That's a lot of ground to cover, and since most mountains have stretches of snow and stuff without cover in between, so since at least one or two of my goggles could have functioning infrared on them, they could potentially spot you out and try to kill you from far off - in the event that that wouldn't work, my Marines can always just track your guy forever.

Also, finding your guys is even more hard by the fact that is constantly night. No light until around August or September. And it's also very cold in Svalbard, especially in the mountains, where temperatures plummet. Remember, it's the arctic. So your guys probably don't have heavy winter stuff on them, which means your guy won't survive for long. My Marines have been on Svalbard for a couple RP days - and, since I have Scandinavia, all my soldiers recieve extensive training in sub-arctic and arctic combat and situations, since that's basically what Scandinavia is.
