Another Chapter for History, and a New Friendship with a long-forgotten Neighbor
The close-cropped hairstyle of Prime Minister Yao Yang Nelson Neo was effectively a symbol of his identity and personal taste. As was his silver-colored, titanium-framed, powered sunglasses, which he used as a political trademark. He had become a respected figure in the Union of Southeast Asian Nations—not surprising after all; he had founded it and fulfilled the goal the ASEAN founders had in mind.
And since then, he had established relations with other nations such as the Incorporated States of Sarzonia, the Democratic Capitalist Republic of Pacitalia, the Democratic Imperium of Halberdgardia and the Second Empire of the Golden Throne of The Macabees to name a few. But there was something that Neo regretted about this process. He could have all made it a lot easier. He took the hard way of things when he established the Union of Southeast Asian Nations and brought it toward the international scene. He dutifully worked hard to bring it to the attention of the international community and with his belief in democracy and liberty; it had become a role-model for many other nations as an example of a free democratic republic and a champion of human rights, often flaunting its excellent human rights record.
But the aforementioned nations had a link in common: they had ties during the Hellfire conflict and earlier on before. For example, the Incorporated States of Sarzonia: a member of the Organization of Maritime Powers, boasting a mighty navy that would put most other navies to shame. It had participated during the Hellfire conflict, as one of the primary nations facing the Gholgoth powers—in particular, the Free Lands of Pantera. The Democratic Capitalist Republic of Pacitalia, also a fellow member-state of the Organization of Maritime Powers, was more well-known for its talented diplomats, but it did possess a formidable naval force—though not all of it was domestically produced. It stayed neutral during the Hellfire conflict as it was allied to both the Gholgoth Powers and the Incorporated States, but tried to mediate somewhat (which was what Southeast Asia itself did during the conflict). The Democratic Imperium of Halberdgardia was not itself a member of the OMP, but a country Neo admired nevertheless for its triumph against the People’s Republic of Saharistan and the fact that it survived during a war when dissidents left to form their own nation based on liberty and democracy on the same continent as many other nations. The other nations on the same continent were run by repressive regimes, and angered at the formation of the new country. Thus they assembled their vast military forces to crush the nascent nation…only for the repressive regimes’ nation’s people to be inspired by the light of the Halberdgardian state, and thus internal conflict within all the other nations ensued. The result was that all these other nations collapsed, leaving the Halberdgardian state to roll over these defunct countries. Since then, they have used imperialism to spread liberty and democracy across the planet, as well as expand their nation. Neo himself did not support imperialism, but he would rather have Halberdgardia run some nation wrecked by war and tyranny instead of letting psychotic dictators like Musab Al-Zarqawi get back into power. Thus was why he requested for help from the Halberdgardian Imperium to back the Union of Southeast Asian Nations in it’s fight against the Federation of Joint Conglomerates, since then, relations with Halberdgardia have come very close and both nations regarded each other high in regard.
The Second Empire of the Golden Throne of The Macabees proved to be an excellent trade partner and a fine arms-supplier due to its large pro-free-market legislation, great wealth in geographical resources and pro-free-market absolute monarchy, but this of course drew criticism from his fellow Southeast Asians, saying that it compromised Southeast Asia’s reputation as the Warrior Against Corporatism and Globalization. But it did support the Organization of Maritime Powers somewhat against the Gholgoth Powers by declaring support for the OMP despite the fact it did have friction against the primary combatant nations like the Incorporated States. Why? Because the Macabee Imperium thought that the OMP nations were the lesser of the two evils when put into comparison with the Excessively Armed Empire of Automagfreek, the Free Lands of Pantera and the then-Nationalist Federal Republic (now Nationalist Social Republic) of Aequatio.
But this could work to recognition and friendship with several major international powers could have been made easier. How could it have been made much easier? In what way could it have been made much easier? The answer to that question lay in the Free Land of Clan Smoke Jaguar. What about Clan Smoke Jaguar? Clan Smoke Jaguar was in the same geographical region as the Union itself was in. The two nations were literally neighbors. The Free Land of Clan Smoke Jaguar also, like the Incorporated States of Sarzonia and the Democratic Capitalist Republic of Pacitalia, had OMP membership. The Free Land had been neglected for some reason or another. Neo wondered how things would have been like had he formalized relations with Clan Smoke Jaguar first and from there made Southeast Asia up on its way toward international recognition. Probably Halberdgardia and the rest of the Saharistan War Coalition would have never crossed paths with the Union of Southeast Asian Nations. Prime Minister Neo thought, Then again, because of the many options we can pick and the many outcomes that can result, I guess I’ll never know.
“We are closing in on Huntress, and are to be landing soon enough.” came the courteous voice of the Southeast Asian Prime Minister’s executive jet-plane’s captain, “all passengers please fasten your seatbelts and prepare for landing.”
That had snapped Neo back to reality. He had self-hypnotized himself, a fact that few knew when they read, people actually did. What was he reading? The profile of the Head-of-State and Head-of-Government, Khan Erika Khabrinsky. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had been talking with the Smoke Jaguar Government about Neo’s visit, and Neo himself knew that it would be imperative for these two geographically neighboring states to at long last have their own respective leaders meet. Yet another chapter for history, Neo thought, as he straightened up his reclining chair to an upright position, then he fastened his seatbelt after completing that task. whether it is one that is to be at long last opened or at long last closed, I’m not sure….but I hope Parliament can approve of this agreement that should’ve been resolved a long time ago.
