Welcome Citizen, to the Terran Federation. It is our pleasure at FedNet to inform you about the status of the Federation and provide you with all the information you need to support your nation! What would you like to do first?"
The cursor moves over to a bar with the words "Terran Federation", causing a it to slide down revealing choices. It scrolls down to "History" and clicks on it. The screen flashes and a screen pops up, with a steel border.
History
By the 28th, rampant crime and ineffective or too-lenient authorities had resulted in the 'Terror', which engulfed the Solaris Federation and to a lesser extent Catan and Furania, amongst other places.
In addition to this, tensions resulted in a bloody war (possibly the First "Space War") between the Commonwealth of Socialist Nations and the Solarisian-Catanian-Furanian Alliance. During the chaos brought about by the war, a group of armchair politicians seized control of the Solaris Federation in an incident known as the "Revolt of the Scientists". The reign of these "Scientists" was short lived. Shortly after the overthrow of the "Scientists", the Treaty of New Svrania was signed. This treaty did not provide for the liberation of the estimated 65,000 POWs held by both sides. While the CommonwealthPOWs were indeed released (some choosing to remain in the countries they were imprisoned in), military and 'political' prisoners from the Alliance - two divisions of Catanian paratroopers and thousands of Srvanian, Furanian and Keldorian civilians - either died in POW camps or had to escape.
In the aftermath of the war, the nations of Terrasia lay in chaos and ruin. During the chaos, small groups of vigilantes maintained order. These vigilantes were veterans of the wars, and quite likely former POWs. These veterans were wary of civilian politicians because, in addition to the POW foul-up, it was these people who had glorified the democracies' "mythology of rights" and in doing so "lost track of their duties". In a few generations, the Terran Federation was established and its constitution was signed including a provision limiting the voting franchise to discharged veterans.
Then came the First and Second Space Wars, where the Federation battled rebellion and civil war. They were both harsh wars and resulted in many casualties. On the good side, however, they forced reforms, both economic and political, as well as set up the efficient system of training M.I's and helped to push advancement in military technology. The second major crisis for humanity came in the form of the Arachnid Empire, or the "Bugs" as humans called them. A hivemind race, controlled by Brain Bugs, the remainder of the Bugs were soulless, drone-like beings, who only knew to kill and do what their telepathic masters tell them to do. They encroached on human space, eventually sending a rock to destroy Buenos Aries. This led humanity to war against the Bug race, a devastating and immense conflict which spanned many systems, revealing the Skinnies, allies of the Bugs and it even involved Earth itself being invaded. The Bugs were tough to defeat, not only did their Queen spew out thousands of eggs, creating the hordes of Bugs that the Mobile Infantry struggled to face, but they also were able to alter their young, with genetic DNA of native inhabitants of planets, to make warriors to suit that planet and increase their chances for victory. Examples of campaigns were the Pluto, Tophet, Zephyr and Homefront Campaigns.
The war ended when a squad of elite M.I's, Rico's Roughnecks, penetrated the Queen's lair on Terrasia and killed her. This severed the Bugs last connection to a commanding force, and they began to rampage, killing each other and wiping themselves out, aided by the remnant of Federation forces.
In the aftermath, some one-hundred and twenty years, the Federation nearly tripled in size, claiming system after system for the sake of humanity. Their military was expanded and their economy shifted to meet the demand. It currently holds several systems, and is enacting another wave of colonization and expansion. Recent contacts with the Galactic Empire, the ESUS, and other nations have forced the Federation to shift it's foreign policy, causing severe pressures in the government, which the Archon is struggling to deal with.
The screen pauses, as a bar comes up with the same words the voice speaks at the same time.
