In a televised speech before the Oireachtas, Prime Minister Bertie Aherne (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/65/Bahern.jpg) has announced the plans the Irish Republic has for the coming years. He said that Ireland would be focusing on Civilian projects, such as Infrastructural Projects (Irish National High Speed Railway, Irish National Highway System) and that Ireland will continue to invest in it's educational and healthcare system.

The Irish Defense Force however, will not be abandoned and left without funds. Money will be spent in Air Defense Systems and upgrading the Air Force. Billions may be spend in these projects [OOC. HINT: if anyone wants to make some money, feel free to offer equipment. I'm interested in planes and Air Defense Systems, but offers for the other branches will be considered for the future]. Mr. Aherne said that in these times of global unrest even a neutral country such as Ireland needs a strong Defense Force to protect it's borders and home territory.

The Prime Minister calls on the Irish People to work hard in order to build a better Ireland. The economy is growing thanks to Irish sweat, and it should continue to grow.

The Emirate is glad to see the Irish state become less dependent on harsh recourses, and indeed looking for the welfare of its peoples. We wish to establish formal relations with your country, in partial recognition of your civil contributions, and partially as a means to improve our current relations. We are glad to see how much progress has been made in your country - and we hope that our government can partially assist in the development of a strong civil order.

After establishment of our relations, the Emirate Ministry of Charity and Hajj would like to confer a grant to your country, to assist in its massive improvement of the existing infrastructure. If need be, we can also refer your government to SIBAT [Kopparberg's principal export corporation for Israeli-made products... yeah, the anachronism sucks, but there is a reasonable historical precedent for the friendship between Jew and Muslim...] for furnishing your government with high quality equipment.

The Government has ordered 12 Eurofighter Typhoon at a cost of 1.344 billion. The opposition in the Oireachtas has reacted negatively. They say that at such a high cost more planes who would do evenly well can be bought.

As expected the Bill "Acquirement of Fighter Jets" has been passed through the Oireachtas. The Opposition parties naturally voted against the bill, but the government had a large enough majority. The purchase of 12 Eurofighter Typhoons (with 24 more in the future) can continue.

Due to the unexpected high growth of the economy, the budgets will be greater than assumed. More money can be spend for certain projects. For example, the Defense Budget has increased with 755923604.4 USD. This will allow more investment and purchases.

After a year of planning and designing the Government finally announced the Infrastructure Projects. More than $2.5 billion/year will be spend on the following projects:
-A High Speed Railway along the eastern coast, connecting Cork-Waterford-Dublin-Belfast.
-Another High Speed Railway linking Galway with Dublin and Belfast.
-Current Railways will be improved, carriages and engines modernized and stations adjusted to modern requirements.
-Modernizing and expanding the Highway Network. In Urban Areas toll will be raised on some routes.

These projects will be ready by 2010 (assuming it is 2007)

In the same speech before the Oireachtas Prime Minister Bertie Aherne also shocked the opposition by announcing a complete overhaul over the Armed Forces. All Armored Regiments will be combined in one single Armored Brigade, Two Mechanized Infantry Brigades will be formed and one Air Mobile Brigade of 4500 men will be founded. The purchasing of 24 Eurofighter Typhoons and 12 F2 Mitsubishi Fighters will continue as planned. The search for Air Defense Systems will not be halted. The opposition reacted immediately with the comment that only 1.5 years ago the Prime Minister promised that the Armed Forces would only be modernized, not expanded. The Prime Minister reacted by saying that this increase is necessary for the defense of the Republic. The opposition also announced that the expansion of the Armed Forces would be a crucial point in the coming elections (next Sunday IRL).

ooc. Yup, it's that simple. Sinn Fein continued to be politicly active after the unification of Ireland. They basicly represent Catholic Nationalists. But I'm planning on a even more Nationalist Party to join RL tomorrow's election.

With 60 days left to the elections, the campaign has started. The main contenders are Fianna Fael, the Labour Party, Fianna Gael and also the Irish Socialist party. One new party has registered and has been admitted: the Celtic Nationalist Party. This party wishes to unite all countries with "distinctive Celtic culture" such as Scotland, Brittany and Wales. Political Scientists have called this new party an "Irish version of Hitler's Nazi party" after studying it's programme. Also a novel thing is the number of seats which can be won. A grand total of 200 seats are available. The latest poll show the following result:

Total number of seats: 200
Fianna Fael-40
Fianna Gael-22
Progressive Democrats-38
Labour Party-60
Socialist party-25
Sinn Fein-2
Green Party-3
Celtic Nationalist Party-8

Election Day in Ireland!

After a long and though campaign election day had arrived. Today, millions of Irish citizens will vote for the Oireachtas and a new government. The latest polls show a sudden rise of the parties "on the edges", namely the Socialist party and teh Celtic Nationalist Party. The Democratic Socialists have lost a lot of voters according to the same polls.

Total number of seats: 200
Fianna Fael-36
Fianna Gael-23
Progressive Democrats-28
Labour Party-55
Socialist party-31
Sinn Fein-4
Green Party-5
Celtic Nationalist Party-15

As the polls had already shown, the parties on the extreme edges of the political spectrum would gain massive votes. The Celtic Nationalist Party has won 20 seats, or 10% of the people had voted for them. The Socialist party won 35 seats. Fianna Fail won 40, Fianna Gael 19, Labour won 51 seats, Progressive Democrats 20, Sinn Fein 9 and the Greens 8. Especially the Progressive Democrats have lost a huge number of seats. The Party leader Michael McDowell has no answer at the moment, but he remains proud that 10% of the voters chose Progressive Democrats.

The most likely government will be a coalition of Labour, Fianna Fail and the Socialist Party or Fianna Gael.

The Socialist Party of Ireland has published a report in which is says the Fianna Fail party and the Progressive Democrats have purchased military equipment at a cost which goes into the billions. Because it cannot support such a militarisation it has stopped all discussions about a coalition with the Fianna Fail and Labour party. The largest party, the Labour Party, has announced that it seems no specific harm in these purchases and that "the Irish Self Defense Forces needed a severe overhaul". The Celtic Nationalist party has said in a newsreport that the party would support a further build up of the Irish Army, but only if it would be used in real combat...

A few days later a new coalition of Fianna Fail, Labour and Fianna Gael has been announced.

The Government announced a restructuring of the Irish Armed Forces. The first measure is renaming the Force from Irish Self Defense Force (ISDF) to Irish Armed Forces (IAF). The Ground branch will commonly be known as the Irish Army, the naval forces as the Irish Navy and the Air Forces as the Irish Air Force. The Irish Army will be organized in Three Brigades:
-Armored Brigade (5000 men)
This Brigade will include all cavalry units and a new Heavy Cavalry regiment equipped with Leopard 2E's. Air Defense will be done my Geopard Tanks and an Surface-to-Air Missile carrying Movag Piranha.
-Mechanized Brigade (10000 men)
This Brigade will be formed by Highly Mobile Forces capable of moving great distances and then attack.
-Light Infantry Brigade
This will be a Quick Reaction Force, capable of deploying quickly to any place on the earth within days. The Regiments that form this brigade will also have Air Borne and Air Mobile capabilities.

The Defense Minister hints that a second or even a third Mechanized Brigade may be formed within the next couple of years.

the Irish navy will be equipped with new state of the art frigates and destroyers in the coming three years. A fact which surprised Defense Analists was the news that Ireland will seek to acquire a Submarine Force within 5 years. The Defense Minister thinks these Submarines are crucial for the defense of Ireland.

The Air Force will have three main roles:
1) Defending Irish Air Space.
2)Giving Air Support to Irish Forces overseas.
3) Transport etc. of irish Forces abroad.

The Trish Government will acquire a force of 60 Eurofighter Typhoons and up to 72 J2 Mitsubishi Fighters for Air Defense purposes. A decent and modern Transport Air Plane will be bought. Two demands for the transports are that they must be capable of transporting heavy loads and can deliver troops in the middle of hostile territory (Air Drops).

As always, the opposition criticises the government for these "militaristic and agrresive policies". The Socialists announced that they will hold mass demonstrations next months in Dublin.

The Demonstation organized by the Socialist Party and the Greens attracted tens of thousands of demonstrators. The Large crowd completely surprised the Police requested support by the Military Police Battalions stationed near Dublin. After the speeches by the leader of the Socialist Party and several well known anti-war leaders the mood changed. The Police arrested several people for damaging public property. This caused the rest of the demonstrators to go rampant rhough Dublin. When night fell, it looked as if a battle was going on. The 3rd Light Infatry Regiment was moved to the city to help the Police Forces in the city. Armed with clubs and rubber bullets the Regiment quickly ended all protests. By 10 PM, the city was calm again. A total of 18 protestors and 3 policemen had died. Dozens more were wounded. The Celtic Nationalist Party accused the Socialist Party of deliberatly startiing violance and called for the banning of the party out of the Oireachtas.

Our government would like to open a Embassy in your nations capital and would also like to know if your government would like to open a Embassy in our nations capital?

We thank the UCF for their condoleances. We really appreciate your offer of support, but for now it is not necessary. The situation is under control and there is no threat of a repeat.

We will send an embassy staff to your capitol. We will welcome your embassy staff in Dublin.

Prime Minister Pat Tribitte

The first report by the Police Investigation Bureau (PIB) revealed that the main cause of the riots was failure by the Police Forces. They had not reckoned with large numbers of protestors and panicked when tens of thousands turned up. The PIB advises the Government to reform the Police Services.

With the Restructuring of the Army completed, the Irish Armed Forces will hold a parade in Dublin next month. The strength and capabilities will be shown during the parade, which will involve every branch of the Armed Services. Representatives of every country in the world are invited to attend the Parade and perhaps meet and talk afterwards.

We do not object any reinforcement of your embassy security staff, but only if it is for a short time. We assure you that we currently have the situation under control.
