He comes across a map leading into the interior which holds the key to a great tresure once belonging to an ancient African kingdom. It is a periless journey, all the while being persued by another group sponsored by a foreign country who also seek the map to gain control of the area. Son to a very religious presbiterian family, the loss of his mother at the age of 7, to tuberculosis, marked a life in which his father, a worker in one of the numerous factories of the city wanted their 3 children to scape from the life of poverty that ended with the life of his wife and two of his daughters. Despite the desires of his father, their two alive sons, Thomas and his older brother John, began working at the age of 14 and 15 in another factory to give their little sister, Sarah, another life, away from the poor suburbs of Birmingham.
