"Ahhh Vader, welcome to my humble system." Tarkin gestured towards the windows with an eloquent smile. "Please, come and witness a new phase of the emperors design." The dark knight merely stood still as his artificial eyes gazed outwards into the cosmos. "Beautiful isn't it." The Admiral moved to Vaders side, arms folded tightly against his chest. "A whole new symbol of fear to quell the growing unrest in the outer rim, when it is completed naturally a test must be conducted, but I'm still unsure as to where to train her sights."
Vaders black helm turned slightly. "Mon Calamari admiral, I would consider it a personal debt if they were to be chastised in the name of Imperial rule and law."
"Ahh yes." Tarkin nodded his head sympathetically as if he had personally experienced Vaders frustration with the race. "The species I believe, supported the rebel admiral.....?" A pause ensued as Tarkin searched for a name. "Ackbar, a fine notable composer of countless rebel defeats. Are you sure you wish his people destroyed, we really do owe them a great debt." A burst of sunlight made its way through the tinted bridge windows as the Star Destroyer rose above the horizon of the systems only planet. Emerging into full view was the symbol of imperial might, a shell, hollow and barely operational but the spherical shape, the central trench line, the countless budding formations of turbolasers, and of course, the pinnacle of the empires will, a superlaser trench; here a new death star was under construction.
"Are the rebels aware of its presence admiral?" Vader inquired with a soothed tone. "I would expect they would be most eager to disrupt this project of yours."
"The rebel alliance have never penetrated this systems defences or security Vader, my forces are well equipped to deal with their squadrons and frigates. We have en entire fleet defending this weapon, no, I think it is very safe here. I doubt the rebellion will learn of its existence until both battlestations new and old hover above the torn ashes of their fleet."
If Darth Vader could laugh he would have, if Darth Vader could risk showing disrespect he would have, yet he held his emotions in check, he held the anger that had crushed a civilisation in control. "Yet, the rebellion exists Admiral, you have had twenty years to eliminate it, enough resources to crush two galaxies into the emperor vision, yet they exist? I am afraid I do not share your optimism in this, project."
Tarkins hooked piercing eyes widened for a moment, his face gained a slight potency of colour and his posture balked against the implications, the new political tenacity of this dark jedi. "Unfortunately what you say is true Vader, yet I have not been the one implementing my operations. You have." A sly smile curled upon the admirals thin red lips as he savoured the trap. Growing in political acuity Vader certainly was, yet he still lacked the enchantment of a true politician, the patience, the pride, and the ability to pretence humility and embarrassment. "I will not play the blame game Vader, however I will do whatever it takes in destroying this rebellion, which is why I have called you here. My spies in the rebel council have learned of several plots aiming at infiltration of this installation, the Imperial palace and the death star, I believe it is time we lured the rebellion, into a trap."
"Are you sure your information is reliable?"
"Perfectly." Tarkin walked closer to the windows. "You see the rebellion have finally realised that outright victory will be impossible, they are changing their strategy, and we must be slow to react. Let them gain victories, allow them overconfidence and allow them to have their supporters rise from the shadows, then, and only then can we finally crush this rebellion. We must allow the cancer to grow Vader, we must allow the tumour to reach a size so that we can see it, then, we can delicately remove the threat, or, if needs must, amputate the limb........."
