BRAYTON - Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Kent Stahan and new Minister of Defense Larry Sullivan announced in press release conference at the MoD head officer in Tealy Square that the Tolvanic navy will undertake a nearly 50billion pound upgrade program. The program is aimed at lifting the long neglected service to among the most powerful among nations comparable in size to Tolvan.
Among the centerpieces of the program is the new, Tolvanic designed Kestrel class aircraft carrier. The navy, which has never operated a carrier though Tolvanic officers have served on British carriers, hopes to eventually purchase six of these vessels, but noted that only three have been ordered at present. The carriers will displace roughly 65,000-70,000 tons and support an air wing of 70-80 aircraft. Among the aircraft being considered are the Aequatian F-28, which already serves with the Tolvanic Air Force, and the F-35C. In addition AWACS, electronic warfare, and anti-submarines aircraft will be fielded as well. The carriers will be nuclear powered.

The other major component of the upgrade program is the Resolute class destroyer. The Resolute will displace about 9,500 tons fully loaded and will not be nuclear powered. The Resolutes will be heavily armed with 128 Mk 41 vertical missile firing cells, two 4 quadruple box launchers for anti-ship missiles, point defense weapons (a 30 mm gun system and a short range missile system), one 127 mm gun, and two twin torpedo tubes. In addition it will carry light cannons and machine guns to engage small boats and frogmen. The vessels will capable of area air defense, both anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare, and land attack missions. In addition the ships will incorporate a variety of design features to reduce their radar and sonar signatures. The ships will carry the state of the art AEGIS computer system to direct their operations. The Resolutes will also carry two SH-60 Seahawk ASW helos as well as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The navy plans to aquire up to 18 of these vessels, but so far have only ordered nine, however the ship will likely be available for export once the initial run of nine is completed pending confirmation of a second flight.
