In the interests of those nations concerned about the effects of their endeavours on the environment, I propose to found a new NS alliance, open to all nations irrespective of age, population, military power, economic strength, social and to political orientation, to adhere to a soon to be drafted charter addressing environmental issues of international concern.

For those interested in assisting in this union's development, discussing possible ideas for the charter or its organisation, or those interested in joining the alliance, register your interest and discuss your ideas on this thread.

I'd be extremely interested in this, I'm always pro-enviromental in issues, and have been looking for something like this. :)

Your interest has been noted and is very much appreciated. Essentially Wagdog summed it up when he said there is a much greater need to balance economic growth with the protection and maintenance of the natural world. The next step is to create a Charter of sorts, which applicant nations would have to agree to. I don't want to make this long and involved like some can be, but rather very simple and easy to understand. I thought it could be based around three simple principles:

(i) CONSERVATION
By agreeing to the Charter and joining the 'Environmental Union' (working title only), you accept that your nation must now take steps to ensure that a significant amount (at least 50%) of your nation's existing natural features will be retained and maintained.

(ii) INTEGRATION
You agree that wherever possible, your nation will consider the environment in all its endeavours, including the construction of new structures and all policy considerations with regard to possible environmental impact.

(iii) EDUCATION
Your nation will take steps to encourage its citizens and other nations to ensure the environment is protected and nurtured wherever possible.

My ideas are such that we are not considered 'greenies' or the like. I simply wish to encourage fellow nations to consider keeping their nation's natural features intact for appreciation by future generations.

And we aren't asking nations to halt all growth and development in the name of nature. Rather we're asking that the environment merely be considered as a 'stakeholder', if you like, in all things the government of that nation chooses to do.
