Vice-Admiral Aurelius Dientari stood on the bridge of his Montana-class battleship Obversaria, surveying the huge fleet making its way towards Iceland to add it to the Glorious Kingdom of Exavia. The Icelandic coast was in sight now, and the 16-inch guns on the battleships began to open up on the shore. The Wasp-class assault ships began to unload their LCACs and landing craft, making their way towards the beach.

Dientari's fleet:

OOC: I'll be RPing the innocent Icelandic defenders.

OOC: That's quite difficult, considering that Futuris just recently claimed Iceland for his own state.

OOC: Sorry, I have a lot of tests to study for, and so I can't post that much. Also, in RL, the US and Iceland made this pact where the US deployed an Icelandic Defense Force (IDF) in Keflavik in 1951. In October of 2006, the US withdrew from the port. However, Iceland and the US still had strong bilateral agreements involving defense and military exercises and training. Of course, that was in RL, so Carloginias can do what he/she wants to do. Also, excuse me for my super-noobness in writing bad RP's.:D

As Bjorn Gustavsson stepped onto the podium, all was silent. A faint wind rippled across the flag, but nothing else stirred.

*mike crackles* "People of the Scandinavian State of Futuris, we have been unexpectedly attacked today by the military forces of the Exaltians. Our port city Keflavik was assaulted by a barrage of several battleships, and the number of dead and wounded keeps rising. That city has started to burn, to burn with a black smoke that will consume us all unless we stop it. And we will stop it, for this is an intolerable act of hostility by the Exaltians. Although Iceland alone will not last long, though its men and women fight bravely and with sacrifice, our people from all 4 nations will. We will stand and fight! *Accepts cheers* The Exaltians have made a great mistake this day, a mistake they will pay for. Further announcements concerning safety will be broadcasted over radio. We ask that you take up provisions as necessary, and donate what you can to the Scandinavian Military cause in this time of crisis. Thank you."

Carl Jacobsson, Minister of Foregin Affairs

To the Carloginian Republic of America,

Friends, it is with great sorrow that I write to you today. The Ezaltians have attacked us in Keflavik, Iceland, killling and wounding many. We ask for the United States to provide full military support for our defense, at least until we can get our navies from Sweden, Denmark, and Norway to Iceland. Without aid, we fear that those navies will not reach Iceland in time. We are yet a young state of nations, but if you give us your support, we will repay in any way possible, if only later on, so to contribute as much to the crisis at hand. Thank you.

OOC: I'm assuming that Exaltia attacked Keflavik in Iceland, since it is the biggest port city in western Iceland, and also the main militaristic and naval stronghold of Iceland. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Iceland_CIA_map_trim.gif

IC:

The Commander of the Icelandic Armed Forces, Haraldur Magnusson, stood on top of a ridge several miles away from Keflavik, and watched as the city burned. Already, landing crafts from the Exaltian navy raced towards shore, while the battleships continued their rhythmic assault, and unwavering rumble of death.

Haraldur chuckled to himself. The Exaltians had made a mistake, a mistake he knew how to take advantage of. Now was the time to prepare.

"Hrafn, come here." he ordered.

"Yes, sir, at your service."

"You know what to do. We have 3 vessels. Load them with the finest. I want the men with full body gear - that means chest vests, helmets, night vision, everything. Have each carry either a G3A3 or an MP5.

"Yes sir."

"I want the ships full. Get every single soldier on board those ships as is possible without sinking the ship. Make sure the mechanics silence all three ships."

"Yes sir. Anything else?"

"I assume you have the artillery ready?"

"Yes, they're almost all in position. We want as much cover as possible, so that we don't get detected immediately."

"Good. And the beach defenses?"

"They are all secure. I was impressed with the creativity our mine specialists used to set it up. The Exaltians will no doubt be surprised?"

"Yes...let's hope so. We start in two hours. Good luck."

"Good luck to you too, sir."

As Hrafn left, Haraldur exhaled loudly as he looked at the Exaltian battleships. Already, the sun was beginning its quick descent to the horizon, preparing for another early Northern night. He took one last look at the burning city, and thought Now it is time for revenge.

OOC: No sweat, just reply when you have the time. Also, in this RP, my country's called Exavia (my first nationstate), not Ezaltia.

IC: Admiral Dientari sipped from his Earl Grey as he watched the beachside villages begin to burn. "Begin landing troops."
"Aye, sir."

Captain Artemis Elarion's landing craft departed from the troopship, the icy North Atlantic ocean sending spray washing over him. The rest of his company, spread out between four boats, was outfitted pretty much the same way he was, with Kevlar and ceramic body armor, G-36 assault rifle, and the sword that every Exavian soldier carried no matter where he was. One out of every five or so men ws armed with a MG-43 light machine gun, and other soldiers carried grenade launchers or anti-tank rockets.

Above, a flight of F-22C Raptors roared past, ready to ensure air superiority of needed. Elarion narrowed his eyes against the icy spray and biting wind.

For the glory of the King.

OOC: Okay, sorry about that. I'll use Excavia from now on.
Ezaltia
22-02-2007, 06:48
OOC: Ok.

IC: The battleships redirected their fire from the city to the beach to supress the defenses there before the marines landed. Some of the Raptors, carrying CBU-105 guided cluster bombs, swooped in to eliminate any defense positions the battleships may have missed, such as artillery peices or camouflaged bunkers.

"Two minutes!" the driver of the landing craft yelled over the noise of engines and explosions. Captain Elarion nodded back, turning to his troops. "Listen up! When we hit the beach, find any cover you can a leapfrog all the way up! Don't advance unless somebody else is giving you covering fire! Huzzah?"
"HUzzah!" his troops yelled back. "For the King!"

OOC: Before I have my soldiers land, could you give me a brief description of what they're up against?
Futuris
22-02-2007, 07:14
OOC: Can I at least keep my artillery and bunkers? Plus, they're actually far away from the landing site (providing you're landing on the beach right by Keflavik) so that wouldn't quite work...And I didn't have much time for this one, so it's not the best RP ever.

IC:

It was dark. The city lay blazing in a perpetual calm, the waters rippling softly, the sun gone and the moon shining. All was peaceful...except for the scene of total war and devastation occuring in the city of Keflavik. The invasion was just beginning.

Commander Magnusson ducked under the camo as the planes flew over, only to hear the bombs hit the beach defenses which they had so painstakingly placed.

"Release ships! Release ships! Fire artillery barrage! Operation Capture underway!" he screamed at the top of his voice. There was a perfectly clear moment of silence as all noise faded into the distance, and the moon shined through the smoke for a split second....BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The artillery began its dreadful attack against the Excavian forces. Out of a fjord hidden by an outcropping of rock, three Patrol vessels zoomed out silently towards the Excavian battleship, Obversaria. For the moment, they were unnoticed by the battleships in the harbor. The artillary steadily targeted both landing craft and battleships, dealing 30 round per minute with all of it combined.

Just as the land had been on fire, so it seemed the water was too. Plane engines screamed, gunfire rattled, artillery rumbled, everything and everywhere there was war.

Commander Magnusson stared not at this destruction, this savagery, this total devastation, but at his key secret: the three patrol vessels. They were almost there. Victory might yet be in grasp.

Suddenly, without warning, Excavian planes zoomed in on the bunker, after having found the artillary, and let all hell loose. The ridge above the city was reduced to smoldering ashes and debris within a few minutes. The artillary had finally been settled, and still the ships unnoticed...

Capt. Snorri Hauksson stared in horror back at his barracks as they burned. He could not believe his eyes. What point had this accomlished, he thought. We will never make it...No. We will do this, for Iceland, and for Futuris. Now is not the time to doubt. We will continue with our duty.

The three ships finally reached the battleship. Slowly and carefully, the men stepped off the ships and onto a platform, extending from the vessels to the ship. Like death itself, 300 men from each vessel descended into the battleship, their mission to capture the battleship at all costs. Now was the time for revenge.

OOC: I hoped that that wasn't godmoding, so try and play it out where about 1,000 of my men are inside your battleship trying to capture it. As for the beach defenses, I don't have enough time right now, sorry. It's like 12 AM, and I still have work to do. Also, I know what I wrote sounds crazy, but it has been done in actual real life war before.
Ezaltia

OOC: I like your style, man.

Artillery shells crashed all around Elarion's ship, hitting the water, and sedning up huge gouts of spray. As he watched, a shell impacted right in the middle of the boat next to his, sending people...peices of people everywhere. Red mist floated down onto his men, and many of them vomited over the side.

The craft hit the beach then, men spilling out onto the sand. One of them promptly stepped on a mine and torn to peices. The rest of the men huddled behind a dune of sand, waiting for the minesweeper tanks to land.

Admiral Dientari slammed his fist onto a control panel as he learned of the infiltration. How the hell did nearly a thousand men get onboard unnoticed? A black-clad man stood in the doorway now, his submachine gun raised. Dientari grabbed the radio. "All ships, sink the Obversaria. I repeat, all ships-"

A bang, a wet thud, and he was on the ground, blood pooling around him. For the... glory.... of the....King...

Secret Kiwiland Message to The Government of Futuris

HM Government of Kiwiland expresses sympathies and support for the brave soldiers of Futuris in their heroic fight against the imperialistic, barbaric and quite evidentally evil Ezaltia.

Our nations had been friends before the Futuris government took over Scandanavia; in fact the Kingdom of Scandanavia was Kiwiland's first friend on the international scene. We have also enjoyed a long and fruitful trade relationship with the Republic of Naasha on Iceland. These are memories that we will long cherish even though Futuris have risen in their place.

It is for these reasons that we ask to help our old friends in anyway we can, for although goverments may change your peoples will always be friends in our hearts. Once this struggle against Ezaltia's unwarranted attacks is over, it is our most sincere hope to re-establish those links with Futuris.

Best wishes for victory and prosperity.

King Deltarus XXVII waved to the crowd, watching his people in the plaza far below. Suddenly, a shot rang out, and he was on the floor, dead. He had no heirs, so the country quickly collapsed into revolution and anarchy. The Carloginian States quickly annexed Alaska, but Canada and Greenland were still unclaimed. Exavian troops in Iceland sureendered in droves, and all the ships were scuttled and sent to the bottom of the sea. So ended the Old Kingdom of Exavia.

OOC: For Iceland's weapons, since the US kinda gave aid in the real world, I'm assuming that they left weapons behind, even though the actual American soldiers left. Also - My description of Keflavik is totally made up. I have no idea how it all actually looks, although I do know that it is a huge port city.

IC:

Eysteinn JÙ nsson leaned slowly against the concrete wall. He closed his eyes, only to snap them open as another shake of the earth brought dust down from the low ceiling. He chanced a glance at the scene outside the small slit.

The city of Keflavik was well protected from a naval assault. Although the Icelandic military was officially non-existent, and armaments scarce, using natural geographic features and creative planning, the city could withstand quite a large naval attack. The city itself was located on the entrance to a small fjord. Since it was located little inside it though, any naval assault had to pass ships into the actual fjord. This proved for the outer entrance to be an excellent first line of defence.

Over time, the people of Iceland changed the small fjord into a harbor. The parts of the city actually bordering with the water were protected by coastal walls and other defenses. The only way to capture the city was through the largely uninhabited beach to the right of the city. If an enemy landing crew grabbed hold of the beach (a huge task in itself), there was still the mile or so of tough terrain full of terrific spots for traps and ambushes. If the enemy had somehow gotten through this, there was still a bit of high ground on which a military base was located. These hills proved to be a modern "wall" behind which the city could hide. This was truly the last line of defence for Keflavik.

The "other" Excavian Navy had gotten past the first defense. For some time now, Iceland had not concerned itself with National Defense. After all, who would possibly want Iceland? But the beach defenses had always been the key thing, since troops were most vulnerable when wading in the water and trembling from the frigid sea.

The actual beach was overlooked bya high cliff, with bunkers and bunkers on top. The way to the city was to the left, not through the bunkers. These concrete safehouses were immense, both in individual design and in number. They lined the cliff like bees a honeycomb, innumerable. They were so encased in concrete and stone, that a direct hit from the battleship would merely shake its inhabitants for a few seconds, but no real damage was done. However, if a bunker suffered a direct hit, all soldiers inside must be down on the ground and covered, or else the blast would injure them. Thus, when a barrage was underway, most bunkers were stopped from firing down on the ground forces below. (OOC: Similar to Omaha beach on D-Day in a way) There was camoflauge everywhere, hiding bunkers and artillery pieces. Scaling the cliff was impossible, not because of the actual climb, but because the Icelandic forces (though few in number) would shoot down any climbers.
On the ground below, there were two crevices, with rock outcroppings and small craters, perfect for hiding ground forces from the merciless gunfire of the cliffs. The bombing of the beach earlier also provided many craters for troops to hide in. The beach was about a mile in length, and although this was not much to traverse on the beach, the mile of bunkers would annihalte any force trying to traverse the stretch.

From atop, in the bunkers, Icelandic forces fired machine guns for mass massacres. The craters and outcroppings, although handy to hide from machine gun fire, could easily be exploited by planting mines and by using grenade launchers from some of the lower bunkers. Although the metal "X"'s on the beach to prevent tank landings were destroyed by the "other" Excavian air support, the shrapnel and debris from it was lying around everywhere, making lying down quickly in the craters or sand painful and possilbe injuries could result. Mines deep in the water would blow up quite a couple of landing craft (if attacked by bombs, it would create waves that would topple any landing craft). Mines deep in the sand would still survive the aerial attack, as there are so, so many. There is a reason why the beach is off limits to all civilians. If forces reach the end of the bunker line, there is still a force of about 600 Icelandic forces brandishing G3's and MP5's, on high ground, firing on the enemy forces. Several RPG's would also be used against tanks, as well as AT Mines on the beach and road to Keflavik.

Eynsteinn sighed. He could already see the first landing crafts make their treacherous way to the beach. The first one was lucky it had not hit a mine earlier.

"Men, get ready to battlestations. Spread the order. Ready to battlestations!"

He mounted his XM312 on his lap, and prayed for forgiveness. The next moment, he swung around, locked onto the "other" Excavians, and began the slaughter.

OOC: LOL. Whatever. I'll copy those defenses down somewhere for future reference in case anybody ever attacks Keflavik again. And I hope Carloginias and Kiwiland don't miss my answers of diplomacy. I guess it's over. Although I would have liked my 1,000 troops on the ship back, as well as a few spoils of war. Too bad about the ships, but the small guns armaments now belong to the province of Iceland and the Scandinavian State of Futuris.
