Aust, I give you an open challenge - one battle, you pick the tech level, you pick the scale of forces, you pick the terrain, we see what happens.

To anyone else, if he posts declining the challenge, it's...semi-open, I'll just want more input in the set-up.

No, but I'm curious why you want to fight me.

Ok, so...my suggestion would be about 1,000 men, pre-modern tech to avoid tech-arguments, fairly level ground for simplicity.
Any thoughts?

yep fair enough, I prefer character RP but this is okay. What sort of srea do you want, pre-500 or Post-500?

???
Pre-500 or post-500? Do you mean in years, AD, or something else? If that's what you mean, I was thinking maybe 900 - meaning early cavalry, no longbows, because they pwn medieval warfare.

I meant pre-900, which is generally seen as a watershed year (Okay, so the fall was actually earlier, but it s a rough date. Youc and evided the 'aincent' periods into two bits, pre-500, basically romans and greek, and post-500 which is the dark ages and the slow renacance. I'd prefer to do pre-500 to be honest, but if youw ant to do abour 900 thats fine.

No, about 500AD is cool. I'll start thinking on a rough force balance, post something as soon as I've come up with it.

I'll think of a scenario-last defense of Rome? The limes and the Pretorians banding together to defend the capital, good dramatic possibilitys as well.

Sorry, back on this now. That sounds fairly ok, but a bit broad in scope...perhaps the defence of an outlying town, thus much more manageable forces involved. But I could go for Rome, yeah.

You could always RP it as after a great battle near Antrium or Ravenna, the Romasn retreat to try adn defend Rome, and what remains of the barbarian hoard attempt to attack. Rome of course ahd no walls at this point.

Ok, deal. I'm assuming you want to be Rome, but I'm not particularly bothered, please post your forces, commanders, characters, whatever when you're ready.

Don't mind either way, the late empires froce where pritty crap to be perfectly honest. Humm... about what, 1,000 on each side... you'd have more forces than me of course. I'll have say about 1,000 professional troops plus a few 'malita' from Rome itself

Okay:
Rome:
Commander: Augusti Emporer Impertor Julius Nepos
Master of the Military Octavius
Forces: Contensise
Pretorian Guard, 120 (1 company Generals Bodyguard)
Legionarys 360 (3 Companys commanded by Dux Gius Constantine)
Auxilia: 240 (2 companys, commanded by Legate Viscot)

Liminatri: Legionarys 240 ( 2 companys Dux Constantine)
Auxilia 120 (1 company Legate Ceiro)

Total: 1100 men

Malita: 360 Sentorial Cavalry, commanded by Ponrif Maximus Wiltos

I'm sorry, a huuuge FT war, first stage of which includes an invasion of my territory here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=519671)
has begun. I didn't know about this until after I posted this thread, otherwise I'd never have set it up; I'm afraid I don't have time for this RP at the moment.
If you want to give a bit of FT a go, this is a good way to start
(other important threads:
Main invasion thrust (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=519300)
Secondary invasion (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=519955)
