Fantasy World / Closed IC Thread

http://usera.imagecave.com/Kormanthor/Earth349/FantasyWorld.gif

A Fantasy World is a type of imaginary world, part of a fictional universe used in fantasy novels and games. Typical worlds involve magic or magical abilities and a medieval theme. Some worlds may be a parallel realm or dimension tenuously connected to Earth via mystic gates or the world may have no reference to Earth at all.
Despite the use of magic or other fantastic elements such as dragons, the world is normally presented as one that would function normally, one in which people could actually live, making economic, historical, and ecological sense
Dungeons & Dragons, the first role-playing game, has created several detailed and commercially successful fantasy worlds (called "campaign settings"), with established and recognizable characters, locations, histories, and sociologies. The Forgotten Realms is perhaps the most extensively developed of these worlds. These elements of detail can be a large part of what attracts people to RPGs.( Wikipedia The Free Encyclopedia )

I Believe Fantasy and Science Fiction are both great genres. They let the author and reader explore strange worlds and endless possibilities. Cultures, relationships and science can be pushed to their limits to find out what things could have been like if the laws of nature were different. This world will be a mixture of both, it is a story of mankind nearly destroyed by destruction from the skies … ie … A Massive meteor broken into smaller metorites penetrate the atmosphere to pummel into the helpless world, triggering massive earthquakes, tidal-waves and storms beyond human comprehension, all reshaping the world. Mistaken for an attack, defensive systems of various nations were triggered. Their neighbors responded, adding more chaos and destruction to rain down from the sky. Some of these missiles are shotdown by orbiting weapons facilities. So not as much dust and smoke fill the skies, partially hiding the sun as the world shudders. High above in orbit one of the few remnants of post modern civilization remains in operational condition, but is cut off from the rest of the world at this time. The second is a secret underground government base where there is technology that can enable
someone to reach the space station in orbit. Like wise a new type of power has been born from this tragedy, magic has been returned to the world of men. Like humanoid phoenixes the survivors rise up from the ashes of the catastrophe, a new generation of people find themselves in a world they no longer recognize. Ravaged by an unbelievable disaster, the few that survived awaken in the ruins that was once there civilization. Scarred is the human race, but for how long? Are we sentenced to live in the rubble of this great tragedy? Only time will tell.

Aboard Star Base One in Orbit

Admiral Gwendilynne Shultz sat in her office aboard Star Base One looking out over the curvature of the planet below. Today she could not see much of the Great Blue Divide because of a super storm cell that was adding to the now normal cloud cover. She just entered the United Earth Space Force ROTC Program back in 2061. Graduated in 2065 and started her service aboard Star Base One in 2066, just a couple month’s before tragedy had struck the Earth. It had now been thirty years since the Tragedy that shook the world's very foundations. The difference was that now she was in charge of Star Base One and responsible for trying to lead the forces that would hopefully one day be able to rebuild a modern human civilization on the Earth, it was a daunting thought to be sure ….

Essembra Tower / Myth Essembra

Many miles below flying high above the Valley of Kormanthor Aust Amakiir, once a human, now a winged elf, changed somehow after the Great Tragedy by the magic that returned in the aftermath. Thought of how his life had changed so much in the past thirty years, once he was a Aeronautical Engineer for the firm that built space craft. Now he was a sorcerer and rogue in the service of the Queen of Myth Essembra. Silently he wondered if any of his creations still flew through the heavens above as he gracefully landed on the upper balcony of Essembra Tower, I guess I'll never know now he thought.

Castle Essembra / Myth Essembra

Cassae Driiquar spread her wings to fly as she as she dived off the roof of her home in the Valley of Kormanthor and flew through the mythals magic field as she gained altitute. Cassae felt free with the wind blowing through her hair and under her wings. Starting her trip to the Stonehenge Academy of Magic, she power dived into the valley south of Myth Essembra pulling out of it just a few feet above the rocky fast flowing river beneath her. Looking down she could see the trout fighting to swim upstream to their spawning grounds and the bears that meant some would never make it. To either side of her, using her peripheral vision she could see the Great Rim Mountains of Kormanthor Valley rose into the morning sky as she rushed on. As she passed over the first of many small waterfalls she saw a number of bears fishing in the river below the falls. She then edged upward then began flapping her wings harder to gain the needed lift and continued south towards Eagles Peak in the southern tip of Kormanthor Valley where her Dire Eagle familiar nested.

Somewhere south of Ocean City, five hundred feet below the surface of the Great Blue Divide

Kimberly Vallejo -aka- Lady Fish swam lazily along in the warm ocean water. She had once been human, now changed somehow after the Great Tragedy by the magic that returned in the aftermath into a humanoid / fish mutant now called Lady Fish. Fortunately she had also been given the power to morph back and forth from human to mutant so she could still continue her human life too. As Lady Fish she was becoming quite the underwater explorer for the scientific community at Ocean City.

"Today seemed like a good day for evil deeds" Strator thought. He walked down to where he saw a villager working. With one swift movement, the man's head was off. Strator then drained the man dry of blood. He felt new life coming into him, the man's spirit told him of the village defences and other things he might need to know. The village was to well defended for Strator, at least for now. Strator then saw a group of children playing in the forest "hello meal" he thought as he bounded towards them, they ran screaming buthe managed to grab all of them, or did he? he saw one of them running towards the gates, he had to run or he would be killed. Now so did Strator. Strator would need to feed at another village, wherever he might find one.

Board of Generals, Jacinto Warrens, Underneath the ruins of Jacinto City

Arkadi Rorsch and his two comrades sat in front of the Council of Generals preparing to be breifed on their latest mission. The head General, Supreme Commander Raam, rose to speak.

"Elites, we have recently acquired new information of a thermonuclear weapon located in the Kormanthor Forest. This weapon could be used as a strongarm factor in future negotiations with, how should I say this, ah! Hostile nations, and we need it now. You are being inserted under the woods via Mk.6 TBM. From there, you will command the two APC's and one HAV given to you to retrieve this weapon and bring it to us. If anything in that dreadful place gives you any trouble at all, you have permission to wipe it out like we wiped out the Serian's. Are there any questions?

Arkadi rose up and saluted.

"Yes, Elite?" said the General.

"General, what is our timeframe?"

"You have two weeks to get it done. Now move out."

The three Elites rose and saluted, then walked out of the hall. They moved down to the equipment rooms and suited up for their mission.

"So, we finally get to go after a Shiva, eh?" said Mladshi, one of Arkadi's fellow Elites.

"Yes, I guess we do." he replied.

The three fully armed and armoured Elites moved down to the staging area and got in their vehicles. The other thirty men in the mission came in and boarded as well. The APC's and the HAV, a Mk.5 Scorpion, moved onto the expressway into the restricted lane and headed down to TBM HQ. The massive Mk.6 TBM sat in the hangar, engine revving, awaiting its cargo. The three vehicles moved into the cargo area of the machine and strapped in. The cargo door shut and the Mk.6 started its trek through the ground into the forest. It was going to be a rough mission.

EDIT: Could you please change Theron Horde to Theron Collective? Thanks.

Mk.6 TBM, About five miles out from the Kormanthor Forest

The 35 men sat in the cargo bay of the Mk.6 playing cards or checking their equipment. 'ETA to LZ is one hour. We're gonna have to drop you just outside the forest, though. Intelligence reports trouble with large machinery in that area for some unknown reasons. We'll keep you posted' crackled the loudspeakers from the operators up front. Arkadi sat with Mladshi and Nikolai in the bay of one of the APC's. They were discussing their mission and making sure everyone knew what to do.

"So, Arkadi. What do you think about the reports of mutants in the woods? pretty creepy, huh?" said Mladshi.

"Yeah...it is. I want to make it a point to all of you that nobody is going to step out of the HAV or the APC's unless I say so...we have plenty of guns we can use to get them from the safety of our metal monsters." replied Arkadi.

"I heard that there are some wierd things in there, like these statues that come to life and kill people." said Nikolai as he loaded a clip into his H-AVR.

"Yeah, I read reports of that too." said Arkadi. "Command calls 'em Abominations, but I read in the Times that they are called Kloa-ti or something. It's rediculous what some of that magic shit conjured up here."

"Agreed." replied Mladshi and Nikolai in unison.

Mechanus, The Clockwork Nirvana
Aidan checked his deceptively small bag to ensure he had all his papers intact as he came to a checkpoint.

The clockwork golem handed him a piece of paper reading "YOUR PAPERS, PLEASE.". He took his citizenship papers from his bag and passed it to the golem, with the piece of paper on top. The golems didn't like wasting paper - one message was more than enough for a hundred people.

Looking over the papers for a moment and putting away the note, it produced a second note which it placed on the top of the papers and handed the lot back.

"EVERYTHING APPEARS TO BE IN ORDER."

Returning the slip, Aidan tucked away his papers and waved Alex forward.

"Well, we'd best be off. Gear 5's launch window closes in ten minutes." he said, the orange clockwork assistant chirping back a happy "Right you are, boss!" as it ran behind, checking its speed so as not to accidentally get caught in the gears as it moved.

To an outsider, the movement of the two would look quite bizarre, at first running on a 'flat' gear, then leaping to the next and running directly upwards, before leaping again onto a gear directly over the checkpoint and running around the edge to the top.

They were just in time, and Aidan made a quick pre-flight check on the cylindrical autogyro with its cone-shaped nose, rear mounted propeller and helicopter blades above. The two climbed in, Aidan putting on the leather hat and brass goggles stored in the 'copter and took off.

Later that day, Over Kormanthor Forest
A shiny brassy autogyro flew over the forest, looking for interesting things that might be happening. A plume of steam followed it as its turbines ran.

Sweating, Seith wiped his arm across his brow. The morning had started out nice and cool, but was steadily warming as the day progressed. The sensible thing to do would have been to take off the dark rain cloak he was wearing, but Seith had never had much use for sensibility. Besides, it helped break up his outline. The world wasn't safe anymore and anything that made you look like less of a target was a good thing, as far as he was concerned. He unhooked a canteen of water from his belt and took a few drinks, looking around at the forest he was in. He had been heading steadily down hill for the past day or so and the forest had thinned somewhat. He stoppered the canteen and was looking down, putting it back on his belt when he heard...something. He reacted instantly, dropping the the canteen and swung his rifle off his shoulder and up into a ready position while simultaneously falling into a crouch. He was definitely worried; he couldn't figure out what that sound was. He just stayed in a crouch, slowly scanning the area in front of him and then pivoting, seeking a target. The noise was getting louder and he still couldn't see it! On top of that it was starting to echo around him and he couldn't even tell which direction it was coming from. Sweating from more than just heat, he took a deep breath to calm down (not that it worked much) and flipped the safety off.

Gwenyth Netheri stood cloaked in invisibility near the demon who the Seer had warned her about. She had been to late to save the man and the children of the village but she would put a stop to this beast from the pit. Stepping out behind the demon she quickly cast a Polar Ray at Strator then she immediately teleported to another position to observe his reaction.

Note: Gwenyth is a epic level sorceress and the Polar Ray is an 8th level spell according to the DND 3.5 Players Handbook.

Somewhere in Kormanthor Forrest Jeremy McQuillian ran full tilt blindly through the underbrush of the Forrest. He had seen her, the Wraith called Wereula! He remembered the strange sound she had made, but worse then that was the fact that she had bit him just as he had tried to escape her cave lair. He had unknowingly wondered into her cave while hunting a bear that had been killing his livestock. He had heard the stories of men being transformed into women by the bite of this Wraith. He knew his life would never be the same if he couldn‘t find help in time, maybe not even then. The full moon was only a week away, then the changes that had already started would be completed and permanent! He had to find a wizard to see if it could be stopped. The cramping pain in his abdomen continued to build in strength until he could barely stand it! He knew her magic was starting to change his insides, he could see for himself that his waist had already grown thinner, now his fingernails had started growing longer. Suddenly his foot caught on a fallen tree limb he hadn’t seen sending him crashing head over heals through the underbrush, tucking his head he rolled, then finally came to a stop lying on the ground in front a man with a gun pointed at him ... he froze ... afraid to speak or move.

Mk.6 TBM, About five miles out from the Kormanthor Forest

As Nargawr and the rest of his troop neared the path of humans, they heard a rumbling sound. Nargawr had heard the rumbling of the sky god before he unleashed water from the sky, but this was somehow different. Then he saw a group of ….. something … he had never seen before moving towards the forrest of the druid on the path of humans. Immediately he silently signaled his troop to surround and follow the strange beasts, but to stay out of sight until he signaled to attack.

OOC: Sorry Kor, but they are underground, hence the tunnel boring machine. The plan was to pop up just inside the forest, unload, and go in to retrieve the nuke while the TBM went back in the hole and sealed it until they returned. You can post about them in a sec when my guys leave the TBM, but at the moment my men are in the cargo hold of the Mk.6 as it burrows up through the dirt.

IC: Mk.6 TBM, ETA to Forest is two minutes.

All troops, gear up. ETA to the woods is T-minus two minutes. the loudspeaker crackled as the machine burrowed upwards at a 30* incline.

"Well, it's time." said Nikolai as he slung the H-AVR over his shoulder and walked out to one of the APC's. The APC's were BTR-6 Romanov Assault Personell Carriers, with room for 2+11 and armed with a 30mm cannon and a two .50cal HMG's.

"Okay, Mladshi. Let's go." said Arkadi.

"Right," replied Mladshi. "See you topside." he said as he climbed through the hatch of one of the Romanov's. Arkadi sighed, then heaved up his Heavy Assault Rifle and hopped in the top of the Scorpion Heavy Assault Vehicle. The Scorpion is basically a tank, except it has limited troop carrying capacity and two internal firing ports. It could hold 3+4 sodiers and was armed with a 90mm smoothbore gun, a co-ax 14.67mm MG, one rear 14.67mm MG, and a Theron-made Pilum UGR (Unduided Rocket) launcher on the top.

Roughly one minute and forty five seconds later.

The quiet of the Kormanthor Forrest was shattered as a low rumbling noise was heard from below. Animals scattered as a massive drill punctured the ground and flung trees out of the way as it tore upwards through the canopy. After about one minute of decelleration, it was safe for the men to unload. A massive ramp slammed down, crushing a small tree, and the Romanov's and the Scorpion piled off. The soldiers not in the vehicles piled out and set up a perimeter around the drill. The Mk.6 roared back to life and sank beneath the ground once again, leaving only and emergence hole where it once was. "Blow it." said Arkadi over the CrossCom. Three soldiers placed some HE charges down the hole and detonated them, sealing the hole up so nobody could infiltrate the Underground. The soldiers piled into their respective vehicles and revved the engines. As Arkadi hopped into the Scorpion, he could have sworn he saw some metallic aircraft fly above them. He dismissed it as part of his imagination but still wondered what it could be. In a flash, the three armored vehicles sped off through the forest, onwards toward the WMD.

OOC2:Once again, Kormanthor, I'm sorry about not being as specific as I should have. I promise to be more detailed next time I talk about Theron vehicles.

: It was my mistake, I read about it being a drilling machine. I guess I was more tired ( I work nights ) then I thought this morning when I posted that response. Here is the post reworked alittle bit. Also I suggest you follow the trails and roads in the Forrest so you don't destroy any more of the Forrest, or you might attract the Druids attention that protects this Forrest.

IC: As Nargawr and the rest of his troop neared the path of humans, they heard a rumbling sound. Nargawr had heard the rumbling of the sky god before he unleashed water from the sky, but this was somehow different.
It seemed to be coming from below, could it be one of the dreaded eaters of all things? Suddenly something punctured the ground from below and flung trees skyward, then men came from it's mouth. This was not good, he had hoped to not attract the Druids attention. Now this stupid beast had destroyed part of the forrest! Something that would certainly attact the Druids attention! He must make short work of these humans and escape before the Druid arrived. Immediately he silently signaled his troop to surround the men, but to stay out of sight until he signaled to attack.

The Three vehicles sped through the Forrest looking for a road when Mladshi spotted something. There was a man holding another man up at gunpoint. "Arkadi! Nikolai! Look over there at 10 O'clock!" he exclaimed into the CrossCom.

"Let's have a look, shall we?" asked Nikolai.
"Fine, let's go." replied Arkadi. The convoy rushed towars the men and came to a halt in front of them. Arkadi popped out of the top of the Scorpion and yelled at the men, his Heavy Assault Rifle raised. "Hey! What the hell are you doing?" he yelled at them man. The man with the gun turned and looked at him in surprise. Something bothered Arkadi, though. it seemed as though they were being watched by a prescence. He didn't know what or who, but he planned on getting the hell out of here as soon as he could before any more little surprises could happen to him and his men.

OOC: I will continue this in a sec, but first I need to ask and tell you a few things.

A: The Mk.6 is already underground as stated in my previous post and wouldn't pose a threat to the kloa-ti since it lacks weaponry.

B: What are the effects of these rays? I don't play DnD or anything like that so I need some help understanding most of the magic elements of these creatures.

C: Do KE (kinetic energy) weapons like bullets do anything at all to these creatures? My men lack any magic at all since I sort of planned the Theron as a more SF people than fantasy.

Thanks a ton, I'll just wait for the answers in your next post.

At the home of the Druid Woodland

Woodland had just returned to his shelter from another section of his forest when he suddenly felt the death of many trees and plants. Almost immediately a moor cat entered the clearing of his home and began to report a strange group of beasts & men that had entered the forest from below and caused destruction of plant life in the area. He also spoke of a troop of Kloa-ti that had attacked them nearly as soon as they had appeared. Woodland thanked the moor cat and promised him a nice meal if he would not mind meeting him at the site of these invaders. Then Woodland stepped into a tree and vanished.

The MG's rattled away at the Kloa-ti, seemingly to no effect. "Keep firing!" yelled Arkadi to the other Theron on the CrossCom. "Mladshi! Nikolai! Open up with the 30mil!"

"Roger that!" they replied. Some of the people in the Romanov's had been taken by an unknown force and driven crazy. The other Theron were holding them down while the remaining fired at the kloa-ti.

Note: A: Remember you are in control of what actually happens to your equipment and men. So the Mk 6 could escape in the thick of things if you wish it too but I would expect some damage to at least one of the vehicles because of the number of attackers.

B: The Disintegrator Ray can disintegrate a man with one shot. The Charm Ray can take over the mind of whoever it is cast on, but each victim gets what is called a saving throw. So they may or may not be affected. If some are don't worry about it because when Woodland appears all the Kloa-ti will either be killed or will escape because Druids loath them. As they do all unnatural beast, other good examples of a unnatural beast would be werewolfs or vampires.

C: Bullets would definately slow them down but only temporarily, because their body heals itself. Only Magic can kill them permanently.

Alex suddenly straightened. "Weapons fire, boss!" he said, in his characteristic mechanical doubled-voice. A mechanical hand was pointing out at the gunfire and magic far down below.

"We'd best have a look. I'll take us down."

The autogyro spiralled down and came to a stop in a convenient clearing near the battlezone. The two climbed out, Aidan closing the hatch to the tiny cockpit behind them. Aidan took note of the nearby surrounds before running to the sounds of gunfire and magical discharge, followed closely by 6655321 hovering on his wings.

As the sounds of combat drew closer he unholstered his hand pistol and slowed down.

A group of strange abominations were attacking a group of armed men.

"Shall I shoot them, boss?" whispered Alex.

"Horrorshow, boss."

Two thin green beams shot out from the sides of the construct's eye and shot at the Kloa-ti before them.

"Nikolai! We have damage to our Romanov! Top hatch B is burnt shut!" yelled Mladshi into the CrossCom.

"Acknowledged." he replied. "Arkadi, fire the 90mm. Even my 30's don't do much."

"Roger, HE shell loading...out!" yelled Arkadi as his crew blew an HE round right into a kloa-ti, blasting a crater in the ground around it and launching it into a tree. At that moment, a green laser sort of thing hit a kloa-ti, killing it and burning its body away. "Did you see that?" Arkadi asked into the CrossCom.

"Yeah, what the hell is it?" replied Nikolai. "How come that can kill them in one shot when our HE 90 mils do nothing! I hate this!"

"Okay everyone, this is it. If we don't kill them soon, we're either running away or going out there and engaging in hand-to-hand combat. I'd prefer the first but it's up to you." said Arkadi.

"Fuck that! I'm not going outside!" yelled a soldier on the CrossCom.

"Well, I think it's decided then. We'll hold here for a bit and if nothing else happens, We're out." replied Arkadi. "Now everyone man a weapon and fire it. We need all the lead out there we can get!"

"Arkadi, someone is out there!" yelled Mladshi over the CrossCom.

"What the hell?" said Arkadi. He manned the Scorpions loudspeaker and yelled out to the man and his mechanical assistant. "Hey! What the hell are you doing out there! Help us kill these bastards." Another 90mm round flew out of the Scorpion, impacting a kloa-ti and blowing its legs off. Amazingly, they started to grow back at a slow pace. "Ah, hell." said Arkadi as he fired out rounds from the co-ax HMG.

Location unknown

Haruga grinned, money was a means to an end and his quarry was not worth a lot, he remembered scenes like this before, in an odd way, he remembered being a boy on a farm, with family he had never had or that a part of him never had, he remembered comrades and foes, long dead, who he'd never met, a part of him that was.

"Damn it, we got the girl why are they being so slow, it was simple. If they don't pay up soon...What do we do boss?" one of the men asked, he was dressed roughly in heavy leather with an unkempt appearance.

"They'll show, not many men would abandon a daughter to the attentions of outlaws like us, if they don't show...have your fun with her and kill her," another said, he was equally as roughly dressed but had the look of one who tried to keep his dark colouring in order.

There were four of them in all, all dressed in wool and leather, weapons maintained well but bare-bladed, in the middle of the knot of bandits a small girl sat, bound and gagged, perhaps entering early adulthood.

Haruga grasped his blade lightly but did not sheath it, he stepped out of his hiding place with a wry smile on his lips.

"Sounds fine to me boss, either way I thi- Hey who're you? Fancy man?" another man said, Haruga just grinned back at him.

"I am here for the girl, stand aside and maybe you'll live to see another day, then again, maybe not. I'm not so sure if you'd be good sport or a good meal," Haruga replied easing his blade.

"Kill him!" one of the number yelled and lunged, he was of reasonable skill, maybe in the business for a few years, Haruga sidestepped and brought his arm slamming into the man's ribcage, there was a loud snap and the man fell limp.

Haruga swirled and raised his palm at another man, sword halfway ready for a strike, a bolt of lighting the colour of pitch burst from his hand and took the man in the skull, he had time to widen his eyes before he fell to the ground in a spasm.

Haruga turned and faced the remaining two, both had blades drawn, they were simple things, long-swords by their look, nothing like the smooth single bladed elegance of his own blade, but he had no need to draw it on men such as these.

Haruga stepping forward again as the two men attacked, blades moving down together, Haruga lunged forward suddenly, darting under their strikes and catching one man in the throat as he rose, he didn't give the last man a chance to recover from his strike, he struck the last man in the elbow joint with full-force, there was a sharp snap and the man fell back.

Haruga closed the distance and grasped him on the forehead, instantly the man's eyes widened and his mouth fell open as his body lost strength.
"Maybe if you had been better, not mere ruffians, maybe you'd have lasted longer...as it is, you may enjoy your last moments of life knowing that your strength goes towards a far greater goal," Haruga said before dropping the man, well the husk of a man.

Haruga turned to the girl, long blond curls framing a face painted in terror, he leant down and took off her gag, "everything is going to be fine now, young lady, your father hired me and I always fulfil my contracts."

The girls eyes didn't change but Haruga really didn't care, he grasped her around the waist and lifted her off the ground with ease before turning moving back toward the village, outlaws and bandits were common around these parts, if he was lucky he could get half a dozen a day.

Seconds later Woodland stepped out of a big tree near enough to the battle zone to be easily seen by the men but behind the Kloa-ti. In his left hand he held a large magical sickle, his ragged green pants torn off nearly to his knees reveled the bark like skin beneath, his large hooves were topped with long light brown hair that resembled a horses mane. His white tie shirt like garment was covered by a green outer garment that looked like it might have been a light coat at one time, but it was now little more then rags draped over his large muscular shoulders. A long, light green fur cloak/cape flapped in the breeze. His long gray hair and beard that reached to his mid chest framed his face. Something like green and white chain lightning also framed his hair. His eyes had no pupils that could be seen through the shining green energy that colored them. High above his familiar a dire ( giant ) owl lazily circled. Without warning dual green beams of energy erupted from his eyes striking two separate Kloa-ti. Both Kloa-ti were bathed in a green energy then simply disintegrated.

"Arkadi, we have contact!" yelled Nikolai over the CrossCom.

"Fuck! Okay, this is too hot for us! Follow my lead! We're rolling out of here!" yelled back Arkadi. He kicked the Scorpion in gear and floored it straight at a kloa-ti, running it over. The Romanov's followed suit and sped off as well. The fleeing convoy moved east towards a known road and made it a point not to stop until they made it there. Engineers in the team began internal work on Mladshi's damaged Romanov starting by cutting loose the top hatch that was melted shut.

"Hey, Arkadi," said Mladshi. "Pretty fucked up day, huh?"

"Yeah," he said in reply.

Three hours later...

The convoy emerged from the dense woods into a small clearing. An old rusty electrical transformer sat rotting away next to a garage and a few smaller buildings.

"Alright, we're staying here for the night, men." announced Arkadi over the CrossCom.

"Roger that" was heard from the other men on the net. The Convoy pulled into the garage and shut the door.

"I want a perimeter set up around here." said Nikolai. "Check all of the buildings for hostiles."

The 35 men split off into groups and began a sweep of the nearby buildings. "Let's check in here, Elite." said one of the soldiers to Arkadi.

"Alright, let's go." he replied. They went into a building and started going through the supplies within. Most was decomposed food and rusty tools, but they recieved a surprise when they opened the next door. Inside lay three skeletons of humans. Dry blood caked the walls and claw marks were everywhere. another skeleton lay on the other side of the room, a humanoid-type thing, with a bullet lodged in its forehead...

Alex remained silent at this, quietly charging the crystal energy banks.

As soon as they were out of earshot, they ran as fast as they could back to the autogyro and clambered into the hatch. The rotors began to spin and soon enough they were back in the air.

"Arkadi, we have contact. Unknown Aircraft has touched down near the transformer. Looks like two occupants from here. What do you want to do?" said Nikolai over the CrossCom.

"Hold on, I'll be right over." Arkadi replied. He and his squad were on the way out when Arkadi took a bar that a human skeleton was clutching in his bony fist. He looked inside it and smiled with delight.

"What is it, Sir?" asked a soldier.

Arkadi lifted a Boltok Revolver out of the bag. "Souvineer." he said as they walked out the door. They ran over to the garage andmet up with the rest of the soldiers. "Mladshi, Nikolai. Let's go see what these people want."

"Alright, Arkadi." Nikolai said. Arkadi unholstered his H-AR and walked around the back of the building to meet the mysterious men. When he saw them walk out from behind the aircraft, he dicided to shout over at them.

"I am Engineer-Errant Aidan Thamere, of Mechanus, and this is my clockwork assistant, Alex." he said. Aidan was fully aware that 6655321's prepared category 10 disintegrator made this situation something of a mexican standoff - probably not the safest situation - while it could easily vaporise the man in front of him, it drained Alex's batteries entirely.

"Alex, downpower disintegrator." he said, the little clockwork orange switching silently to a low powered stun beam. The bright green glow faded from the gemstones, which appeared to return to a dull red. Of course, they were supposed to be clear, but they didn't know that.

The demon felt the freezing cold beam as it came near him, and managed to prepare himself slightly. He flinched and shivered with the intense cold, his flaming aura died down a little. He turned around and sniffed the air for any magic, he felt a strong source coming from behind a bunch of trees, but kept from looking there so that he could catch the hidden enemy unawares. Within a second he had turned and blasted the foliage with a surge of Imp fire, burning whatever was in its path.

"It uses a series of steam generators - I'll show you if you want."

Aidan took a small screwdriver from his bag and popped open a maintenance hatch. Peering inside, there was an array of twenty glass bottles emptying a geyser onto a glowing metal plate, producing enormous quantities of steam which was ordinarily jetted into the turbines. Coughing for a moment, he said "Engines Off."

The decanters turned off, allowing Mladshi and anybody else who cared to look the workings of the steam generator.

"The decanters channel from the elemental plane of water, while the plate is charged with elemental fire. The steam channels up through the nozzle at the top-" he paused and reactivated the engines, closing the hatch up again and opening a second one, "Drives a turbine here, which provides the motion required for the gyrocopter."

The gears to the rotors were not connected, though a number of other gears turned rapidly and presumably went off to other parts of the small autogyro. After a moment, Aidan closed the hatch again.

"Most autogyros are little more than frameworks running on smaller engines, but this one is probably a bit closer to a pre-fall helicopter than a gyrocopter. The metal parts are almost exclusively mithral, and are warded with more than a few dweomers normally reserved for buildings."

After the explanation, and answering any questions, he followed the others into the garage. "Maybe I could see if I could fix up any of your vehicles." he remarked, putting away the screwdriver.

"Right, I'll see what I can do. Come on, Alex."

The engineer and assistant set to work on the APC. "I'll probably only be able to do a workaround for the time being, though."

Pulling a variety of tools from his bag and a quantity of small components, as did Alex, they set to work cutting the hatch open. After a moment, the top had been totally removed from the vehicle and then hinged back with a bolt to hold it down when someone was inside. The roof was somewhat more important when you had an enemy who could fire disintegrators.

The sensor array was soon in a similarly working condition, though the destroyed elements were irreplacable with the tools he had on hand. Instead, he used the still functional components and a few supplies he had on hand to rebuild it as a smaller sensor array. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing.

Returning to the group smelling slightly of ozone, he said "Well, that's the best I can do for now. Given time I could probably fabricate the necessary components, but it would take me a few days - and I doubt we'll have that much time. That guy didn't look too happy."

JUSF HQ, Central District, Jacinto Underground

Major General Polanksi, the man in charge of the retrieval operation, sat in the central security hub of the JUSF HQ watching the moniters. Each showed the various entrances to the Underground. Each entrance was equipped with two A-16 Sentry Drones who constantly scanned the area before them with top mounted laser sensors. In one tunnel, an alert light popped up. The General looked over to see six little imps scurry down the tunnel towards the A-16's. The drones snapped up their autocannons and opened fire on the imps. A screech was heard, then six small puffs of fire came from where the imps once stood. 'Don't they ever learn?' he thought to himself. Another beacon came up labeled 'arrival, A-dock', making the General look over to a different screen. The Mk.6 TBM emerged into the hangar and its crew unloaded. The General noticed many black streaks burnt across the hull and a hatch that seemed to be melted shut. He decided to get a brief from the crew and headed down to the hangar. He boarded a restricted monorail and sped to the bay where the crew was waiting.

"What happened to your vessel, Captain?" he asked.

The Captain saluted and replied to the general. "We came under fire from Abominations. I don't know how the retrieval team fared but they told us to Evac immediately."

"No shit." said the General as he took out a ComStar portable device and called up Central.

"Hello?" an Ensign answered.

"I need to speak to Supreme Commander Raam immediately." said Polanski.

"One moment, General." said the Ensign. There was a click, then Raam's gruff voice was heard on the line.

"What is it, Polanski?" he asked.

"Commander, I recently spoke to the crew of the Mk.6 that brought the retrieval team topside and they reported that they took heavy fire when they reached he LZ."

"That isn't good, General. Something should be done."

"Commander, permission to authorize use of an SSA Team for pickup of retrieval team?"

"Permission granted. We need those nukes back, General. Now get it done." He hung up, as did Polanski, and the conversation ended. Polanski returned to JUSF HQ and started filing paperwork for the use of the troops for pickup.

OOC: This was a semi-bump. It did have some meaning though. This sets the stage for the pickup of my men and the warheads.

*SSA Team: Speacial Subversive Assault Teams utilize a Mk.4 TBM to go underneath a target, then drill smaller holes up just below the surface to emerge from. Shaped Charges are placed and blown, making a hole for them to assault from and scaring the shit out of the targets. In this case, they are used for rapid retrieval and troops support should they run into trouble while retrieving the warheads.

It sounds rather important, if you came in a Mark 6," replied Aidan, recalling the escaping tunneler from his studies. From an outsider's viewpoint, they had been well documented, though this could not compare with the vehicles' technical manuals.

For instance, he did know that they were easily capable of carrying multiple vehicles underground at high speeds, and the crew complement, but he certainly couldn't build one from scratch, even given all the parts.

They were supposed to check in every two hours, and they were now six hours overdue.

On serveillance cameras mounted outside the tunnel, a group was seen moving through the pass. This interested the Theron Command and they dispatched a recon team to keep an eye on the group from afar. They seemed human, but after the Retrieval Team's experience, nothing could be certain. The recon was armed with light assault rifles and carbines since there were no armored vehicles with the group.

We are splitting the group with one APC moving in to get it and the Scorpion and the other APC staying here. Those are my orders so far." said Arkadi. "Oh, I found something earlier. I wasn't sure what it was so maybe you could make a guess. Follow me." Arkadi led Aidan and Alex over to the building and brought them to the bloodspattered room. "This skeleton, right here." he said, pointing to the odd humanoid one with a bullet lodged in its head. "What is it?"

"Arkadi, I am heading out to retrieve the nuke. I'll maintain contact on the trip. If I call for help, please, please make it fast. I don't want to deal with those kloa-ti on my own." said Nikolai.

"Roger that, Nikolai." said Arkadi. "Alright, everyone take something and fortify your fire team in a good vantage point. The fence around this compound should hold up pretty well, but if they break through, I want you ready." He looked around at the buildings and looked for positions. "Everyone take either a spot inside a building or make a nest for yourself." He and Mladshi headed up on top of the garage and set up. Arkadi attached the underbarrel Grenade Launcher to his Heavy Assault Rifle and and untinted the scope. Mladshi readied his H-AVR and rested it on the box he brought up with him. Finally, after dealing with the day's toils, it was night. The Theron had the advantage now, their great night vision on their side. The other twenty men with them did the same, setting up in windows and on roofs. If someone wanted to investigate this area, they were in for a surprise.

BTR-4 Romanov APC, about ten kilometers from camp near the site of the warhead

Nikolai and his men drove through the dark forrest at a fast pace, hoping to return too the relative safety of their makeshift camp as soon as possible. After about twenty minutes of driving around and searching, they finally came up on the warhead. The APC stopped in front of the front and middle sections of a mid-size fighter/bomber, totally overgrown with rust and moss.

"Okay, let's get it." said Nikolai. The soldiers nodded and hopped out of the rear hatch. An engineer approached the hulk of metal, inspected it for a moment, then produced a metalcutting torch from his rucksack. As he cut away at the bomb bay, the other soldiers took defensive positions, monitering the woods around them. It was quiet, the silence broken every now and then by the occasional screech of a nocturnal animal and rustling of leaves. After ten minutes of cutting, the hatch fell off and the soldiers peered inside. A tactical nuclear warhead sat inside, undisturbed for thirty years.

With a quiet thump, masked by the background noise, 6655321 landed near where Nikolai and his men had stopped.

Careful to keep his presence hidden from their Theron friends, he zoomed in with his single eye and quickly identified the atomic weapon. Such information was often important, and despite the openness of all parties, if worst came to worst it was usually necessary to know the details. Especially if the nuclear weapon was dangerous.

Vanishing from his position, he flew back ahead of Nikolai's group, making a quick clockwise overpass of the site, noting it for later scavenging and for any sign of the kloa-ti.

He landed in the wooded area nearby, disintegrators charged. Vaporising a particularly savage Mucronadum, Alex returned to the garage and took away the piece of paper. Having checked on Nikolai, and ascertained that he wasn't getting himself killed or anything, he climbed up with the other elites onto the roof and watched, flying out every so often to search for intruders.

"Load it up. We don't have forever, men." said Nikolai to the soldiers removing the nuke from the plane. While they loaded it into the Romanov, Nikolai had one more thing to do. He approached the plane and looked at the brown glass covering the cockpit. He stared at it for a moment, then brough up his fist and slammed it through the canopy. Inside was a horribly decomposed body of the pilot. He reached in and removed the pilots sidearm, then he removed the pilots dogtags and put them in his pocket. He got back into the Romanov and they sped off into the woods towards their base. On the way, a strange four legged beast ran out in front of the APC and was ran down beneath it with a loud thud. They drove on until they finally reached the fenced in group of buildings were they were camped. The gate was opened up as the victorious group drove in and pulled inside the garage. Mladshi sent a message to command that the nuke was retrieved and they were ready for pickup. Command's plans had changed though once they heard about the outpost the retrieval team had come upon. They decided to send a garrison force up to refit and fortify the structures as part of the expansion campaign. Command dubbed it Rorsch's Landing after Arkadi since he found it and planned to use it as a supply post for surface-side ops in that area.

After hours of walking the Ocean City Scout Team finally found the path that descended into the graben where the base entrance was secretly located. The path was clearly marked as it twisted through the center of the graben next to a shallow mountain stream. Col. Randy Kline stopped as they came up to a fallen tree that formed a makeshift bridge to the opposite side of the stream where a tunnel entrance could be made out behind an overgrowth of hanging plants and vines. Pushing aside the covering plant growth he stepped into the tunnel as he motioned to his men to follow. The tunnel within was narrow barely wide enough for two men to stand side by side, which shortly opened in a large underground room with a waterfall coming out of the rock face and a small pond that lay beneath the falls. To one side of the pond was a small building where they found the emergency equipment locker placed there when the base was built. Using sign language he ordered his men to don the underwater gear, then dragged the underwater sleds to the waters edge. As the group entered the water he destroyed the locker by remote control and they all disappeared into the murky depths of the pond.

Jeremy McQuillian lay very still for what seemed like hours but was probly only a few minutes actually. He watched the man with the gun, he had not moved, he seemed to be in a trance or something. Slowly he started crawling backwards back into the forest from which he had emerged earlier. As he raised to his feet he heard a ripping sound, using his hands to investigate he found that his hips and butt had grown wider and rounder which had caused his pants to rip out in the groin area. After getting well away from the man with the gun he broke into a dead run heading back to the place where he had left his horse. He had to get to a mage quickly or the magic would change him completely.

About ten hours after the nuke was retrieved, the SSA team arrived with the engineers and garrison force. The explosion from the center of the Landing was deafening and awoke anybody asleep at the time. The TBM came up and unloaded all of the men who immediately began stting up shop. six Troika MG platforms were brought up and placed on top of buldings in sandbag-walled nests. Sandbags were thrown in walls around the perimeter of the chain link fence and on the inside of the base as well. Razor wire was set up on the top of the fence as well as a few spotlights on top of Buildings. Buildings began recieving purposes, the garage being the main operating base, another building designated as a mess hall, and the rest for barracks, a small infirmary, and storage. Arkadi waled over to the now awaken Aidan and set down his gun.

Waking up with a start, to the fully ready Arkadi standing over him, he rapidly packed away his things.

"Shouldn't take too long." he said, taking an obligatory oversized wrench from his bag and running out the back. The efficiency of this place had an effect on him, recalling the industrial beat of Mechanus.

Half an hour later, the blades had been removed and stored in the gyrocopter, which had itself been loaded into the Mk. 6. Quickly boarding it with Alex, he took a seat near the other soldiers. He looked rather out of place, but that was normal.

Looking around the Mk 6, he examined it half in wonder and half deep in thought, analysing how the thing worked and inferring what he could not tell was there immediately.

"It's quite the piece of work, I have to say."

Kandayo in Area 52, Take Two.

The wizened swordmaster sat in quiet solitude, eating his dinner. He looked up from his meal in time to see three shooting stars descend slowly in the distance, impacting somewhere in the mountains.

He braced for the shockwave which usually followed such events, but there was none.

"Odd. Great magics must be at work." he mused, also noting that there was not only one, but three meteorites.

Thinking aloud, he said "Perhaps it's one of the others?", entertaining the thought that his other old adventuring companions had possibly been shunted across. If it was old Karathis, he could probably find a way to breach the planar boundaries - nobody he had found was aware of it, let alone able to cross it.

Hope filling his heart, he stood and began the long trek to the impact site.

Several Days Later...

Kandayo finally came to a mountain overlooking the site. It wasn't a powerful mage, it wasn't an impact site, not even an old temple. What lay far below was something a bit like the buildings of the Theronese, though it seemed somehow different.

"What is that thing?"

Swordmaster Habasi's old adventuring spirit once again rose to the surface and he trekked down the mountain with increased vigour.

Arriving at the site, he saw people dressed in strange armour carrying foreign-looking firearms walking about the place, and ducked behind a convenient obstacle. Concentrating, he focussed his ki and his head cleared.

He perceived all those around him for 30 feet through his honed senses, and carefully listened to their movements and began to formulate a plan to get into the advanced ruins.

Rand Aurelius stood on top of a newly built watchtower, surveying the unfolding scene before him and smiled.

The scene revealed itself to be a bustle of activity as several large construction projects were underway, including the construction of a new commerce center, several aqueducts, and rebuilding of overgrown roadways. Several hundred men, women, and children were busy employing various tools that could have very well come from the 18th, 19th, or 20th centuries as a substantial amount of tools were improvised and created from scratch.

Rand walked over to a table and glanced at a hand-made map, revealing two dots with the names "Boulder" and "Denver" under the dots. He scanned another large sheet of paper on the same table, and the sheet displayed the various projects taking place in greater detail. The name under the sheet was titled "Boulder Renovation Projects". Several diagrams represented plans for additional civic structures such as a school, hospital, a railroad station, among others. Rand glanced back at the map, and smiled once again as he checked the lines connecting Denver and Boulder.

He thought to himself quietly.

"The railroad and road connection should be rebuilt within a couple of years, allowing the rapid transit of people, material, and goods between Denver and Boulder. With that link established, Boulder and Denver can grow even further, especially with the plethora of nearby resources discovered in the Rocky Mountains.

Everything had to be created from scratch as our technology has regressed, and the lack of modern spare parts means that truly modern 21st century technology won't be realized for at least a century or two.

The harsh enviroment and the apparent lack of survivors outside of Boulder and Denver may mean we are the only survivors of the Apocalypse. We must not repeat the mistakes our fore-fathers did, and I am personally determined to ensure society remains free of such destructive influences of Good versus Evil, thus my Seven Laws.

I think I may undertake a journey to discover more of this world, and perhaps new resources or areas my people can restore and rebuild."

Rand rubbed his chin and shortly thereafter, he took the important pieces of paper inside the newly built stone watchtower for protection. Within two hours, he rode out on a horse to the south of Boulder with several scouts as added insurance aganist any potential attacks or dangerous situations.

Suddenly a world appeared within his crystal ball, once a high tech world without any magic at all. Yes he had scryed this world before because much of it’s surface area was covered with water. If he remembered right, and of course he did, he was Istashia after all! The reason he had not sent an agent to this world before now was the unfortunate fact that there was no magic there. So he had been unable to open a portal to this diamond in the rough. Now things had changed for the better because of a huge rock that had came from out of the sky and struck this worlds surface. In someway this had opened numerous magical portals leading to this world from many different places. Nonetheless, he was clearly interested in exploring the technological differences between his home city of Mechanus and the state of the Theron. There had been a brief war between the two a decade back, but when peace was signed there were few hard feelings on either side.

"Yeah, I will." said Arkadi as the hatch door slid shut. There was a hiss as the air escaped the airtight spots and soon the Mk.6 lurched forwards down the tunnel. Since this tunnel was already dug out, the return trip was much faster taking only about 45 minutes. After that time, the Mk.6 stopped and opened the hatches. Everyone climbed out as the engineers unloaded the vehicles and sent them to the proper locations.

"I have your copter being sent to the garage. The guy's my good friend, he won't do anything to it." said Arkadi. Soon after they got off the Mk.6, Arkadi led them to an elevator. They stepped in and emerged at the monorail loading station. They boarded it and set off towards the West Residential District. The monorail sped down the track in the dimmly lit tunnel for about two minutes before the tunnel broke open into a massive cavern. Large tracked vehicles were drilling away at the walls while hordes of people hammered away at the sides with picks and jackhammers. There were two vehicles parked in front of a quartz rockface with a large red beam emitting out of a forward turret. "There are the DE tunnelers I was talking about." said Arkadi, pointing to the Huge tank-like monstrosities. the monorailreturned into a dark tunnel again but came out about another ten minutes later. It slid to a halt and the three unloaded. "Here it is," said Arkadi. "The Underground."

Haruga walked across the open plain, one could almost believe he was completely alone, but then again, if that was the case he wouldn't have come in the first case.

Haruga had been moving steadily south, but now he had changed again, west, he went where his fate called him, for the moment.

Haruga smiled to himself; he could sense his quarry, they were not human today.

Ahead he saw them, about a half-dozen, small and very muscular but still lean with sharp features, they had skin the colour of coal and eyes the colour of flame. Haruga always held disgust for Jisinki*; they were a low level species that was almost always used exclusively for added weight to an army and suicidal acts, but they were still around after three thousand years.

"Zaoi tachita nothra sumei," Haruga said stepping forward.

The small shapes stepped back and hissed, "A human who speaks? Not stupid this one? How so very...particular. But you are not exactly a human are you?" one of them said in a whisper-like voice as the other raised their energy guns.

"Hmm, a Jisinki who speaks the language of men, how novel. I suppose it really has been a long time, tell me, how long have you been here for?" Haruga asked placing a hand on the Svallorm Teim.

"We came here twenty years ago, my clan and I, this world opened to us for the first time in a thousand years. Men forgot us and our kin but we are yet to truly come, soon the world will shake with our presence and our lords shall feast upon the riches of-"

Haruga stopped paying attention after that, there had been no invasion from any other powerful entities, that was good, a rogue clan of Jisinki was easy to deal with for any well organised and disciplined army, so long as they were willing to take the losses.

"I see, well then, I have little use for you you have been most nostalgic," Haruga said and drew the Svallorm Teim, the blade sung to his ears as he did so and held it above his head.

Lighting of the darkest shade burst out of the blade and struck the figures who had time to shriek and collapse in death, he would have fed on them, but that would alert others to his presence.

At least I know no one else followed me, still their presence means other could do such a thing, Haruga thought as he continued on.

*Jisinki: my own creation, they are a quite weak low-level race from another plane. They mostly use daggers, spears and primitive 'rifles' that fire bolts of magical energy.
They are about four foot tall and mostly dress in rough clothes, consider them a sort of otherworld imp, they usually travel in packs and flock to a powerful lord in the hope of gaining further glory and power, individually they are slightly inferior to humans due to their smaller bodies and inferior eyesight (they see fewer wavelengths of light), but their senses of smell and hearing are about 5% better, they are unlikely to feature heavily in this rp.

His honed senses picked up the soldiers almost instantly, and he dropped the sword so it landed blade first in the ground.

He did nothing more, and simply watched the strange soldiers with a sagacious look. While he would have rather kept his sword, he also recognised that the sword was not what gave him his skill, and that any weapon would suffice.

Besides, it was easier than trying to sneak in. He would go with the soldiers quietly - though he would be perfectly aware of any skullduggery they tried and would react then.

Now, after expanding and renovating, it shines with our progress." The three began walking down an elevated path that rose above the main road. They began down the flourescent lit path before Arkadi spoke again. "This area is the min resource management sector. The workers here ration out the resources for the expatriates that make up about 40% of our population." He noticed that Aidan had stopped and looked at a massive TV screen above the road with a commercial running. "Oh, watch this. These are totally aimed at the noncitizens." The commercial started with scenes from the world before the tragedy, then many cities were seen in ruins and riots were shown. Hundreds of the images were flashed across the screen behind a message reading 'The World is in Ruins...' Then, the screen went black and a scene of marching soldiers came up. Soon, more soldiers were seen charging an enemy position and massacring the forces there. Big red letters along with a blaring background voice constantly repeated 'Only the Theron Soldier on!' Arkadi watched the commercial and smiled. "I always love those. Teaches the noncitizens to do more for their new home." They kept walking and soon came to a vending station. Arkadi inserted his credit card and made a selection for himself. "Do you want anything, Aidan?"

Aidan pondered the selections on the vending machine for a moment before making a selection.

As he took the product from the slot, he said "Strange, those ads. I'm not sure how many nations we have left after the fall. Off the top of my head there's probably only five or six at most."

Inside were many pictures of the outside world and dozens of artifacts from the days of old. Arkadi removed the Boltok Revolver he had taken off of the skeleton at the landing and hung it on the wall next to a short sword and an AK-74. "Make yourself at home," said Arkadi. Amy Morningstar extracted herself from her hiding place as the three men walked down the walkway towards Arkadi's home. Deciding to look around a bit she jumped into the air and quickly flew to the roof of the house. Then flew down the chimney to the opening into the interior of the house then landed on a ledge to listen.

Down, down, down the group swam until they reached the bottom where they found four cavern like tunnels going off in differant directions ( N,S,E,W )
After figuring out the correct tunnel they continued on down the long horizonal tunnel until it ended, opening up into a large body of water. Exiting the tunnel they slowly accended towards the surface so they wouldn't need to worry about the bends.

A few hours later Jeremy finally made it to Myth Essembra where he immediately went to Qwia Amakiirs Magic Shop. As soon as he walked in Qwia correctly guessed what had happened to him. He asked her if she could help him stop the coming transformation and reverse the changes already made. " There are possiblities of doing so, But we would have to travel to other places in order to obtain them. I don't have anything here that will stop the changes, but I can temporarily keep it from becoming permenent. " she said.

After about twenty minutes they broke the surface of the water near a small floating facility. Quickly they climbed aboard, then entered the building through a water tight door. On the deck two was living and sleeping quarters. On the deck three was a large laboratory with a circular launching bay that could be opened to the undersea world just beneath the facility. A small yellow submarine with windows in the front hung suspended above the launch pool on supports. Deck one held numerous small helocopters for one person, numerous jet skis.

Breaking the rules a little, Alex is firing off three shots of two rays of enfeeblement, to exploit Pixies' naturally low strength. Touch AC is assumed to be 20, as no sorceror worth their salt is going to be wasting away points in dexterity. Not sure if she'd be considered flat-footed, though.)

However, Aidan was able to take his readied action and fire the gun at the pixie, covering her in brightly glowing dust before his firearm was destroyed. Rays of Enfeeblement Str Damage (2d6+10=18) (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=923040)

A crow landed on a dead evergreen tree on the side of a mountain. By instinct the bird scanned its surroundings. It spotted a man, quite a ways away sitting on a rock. Suddenly the figure's eyes turned to an icey white hue as a two foot long spear of pure ice flew from his had and through the bird.

The man, Apatschin, then retrived the bird and through it up into the air. His eyes turned blood red as a fire ball flew out and cooked the bird in mid air.

He had lived on his own for more than 10 years in the same woods and knew it like a book. But that had changed. He was out to find answers, who was he, and was happening out in the world. He had learned how to use his magical powers from his mother, but she had died and not yet said he had completed his training.

After finishing the bird, he said an ancient prayer his mother had said to honor the bird's soul. He then slung his rifle onto his shoulder and continued down the path marked only in his mind.

An isolated community had told him about strange things coming down from the sky, and just maybe this might be a step toward his enlightenment.

Rand kept his eyes straight ahead as he walked towards the central square of Colorado Springs, taking note of several survivors in bedraggled clothes staring back at him. A few other survivors ran at first sight, apparently afraid of what might seem like a man clad in a black SWAT uniform followed by several scouts on horseback.

Once Rand arrived at the center of the plaza, he turned around and looked at his subordinates and spoke.

"I want to hand out what little food and water we have to these people. They do not look like they're quite as well off as the people in Boulder or Denver. They might be afraid of us, and we must dispel that notion."

The scouts dismounted their horses and took several extra rations from the saddlepacks. They approached Rand and handed over the rations, then returned to their horses.

Rand began speaking out loud towards the few curious onlookers.

"I am Rand Aurelius and I have some extra food and water for you people. I hail from the cities of Boulder and Denver. There are survivors just like yourselves in Boulder and Denver, and we are working together to rebuild civilization in these troubled times.

We must stand united together, and with unity, we will be capable of great things together. A reborn civilization, plenty of food and water for everybody, nice warm homes for the harsh winters, and guanatreed safety for all.

That is my promise to you, people of Colorado Springs!"

Several people began making their way cautiously towards the plaza to meet with Rand in hopes of a better life. The enticement of extra food, water, and warm homes began luring even more people out of hiding. Not before too long, there were more than thirty people barraging Rand with questions about other survivors in Boulder and Denver, and how things were over there. Within several hours of chatter and celebration, Rand was given several letters to take back to Denver and Boulder, apparently to old family friends, distant relatives, long forgotten college roommates, and even a letter to someone's ex-wife. Six survivors from Colorado Springs asked to join Rand on his trip back to Denver to see the city for themselves.

Before departing, Rand made another speech at the plaza of the town.

"Thank you so much for your hospitality. I shall depart for Denver, and bring news of Colorado Springs. As I promised, I will personally ensure that ample supplies of food, water, and warm clothes will arrive within a month. Your letters will also be delivered to their recipients in Denver and Boulder.

We must unite and build the foundations of a renewed civilization that guanatrees that everyone has plenty of food, water, and supplies to live comfortably instead of struggling for scraps on a daily basis."

A loud murmur of approval spread throughout the crowd as Rand made his way through the crowd. People slapped him on the back and shook his hand repeatedly, as their eyes shined with hope for the first time in what seemed like an eternity to their bleak existence. Rand turned around and waved towards the crowd before galloping out of the area on his horse towards Denver and his inevitable destiny.

In the middle of the dim room at the JUSC was a large table with a world map on a large tablet screen. Eight men stood around the screen, specifically at an area labled RM2 that was positioned over the area near Boulder, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo. Sensors had shown that there were large caches of raw material there; an important thing for the Theron to have if they wanted expansion.

"I propose an expedition." said General Goerig, head of the Theron Armored Corps. "I'm sure a powerful armored column should make it safely with the surveying equipment."

"I agree with General Goerig." said Commander Milivic, the Foreman of all Mining Activities of the Theron. "We could use our modified BTR-4's to carry the equipment over."

Supreme Commander Raam looked around at the other men and spoke. "Send some armor. I am authorizing ten Marakov Heavy Tanks and an Elite company to go along with the surveyors. I am not going to allow anything like the Kormanthor Forrest incedent happen again. All of you prepare your forces and make your way to the Lift."

The miners and the Expeditionary Force made their way to the Lift, a massive elevator in the center of the Underground that led to the forever burning city of Jacinto. The Tanks, APC's and Mining Transports loaded onto the Lift and went topside. They began their treck West towards Sector RM2 to find the raw materials and hopefully other nations presiding there.

Eventually, with the help of Alex, he selected a VGL-80 Grenade Launcher and purchased it with a considerable selection of ammunition in notable quantities with a letter of credit. It appeared to be some sort of bastardised cross of a grenade launcher and a mortar, but it was nonetheless surprisingly light - owing in part to its status as a single-shot weapon, even if an exemplary model of such weaponry.

"Well, this will likely more than suffice." he said, as he loaded a high explosive grenade into it and stowed the ammunition in his bag. He slung the grenade launcher across his back.

Captain Thomas Westinghouse stood on the bridge of the Aether Cruiser USS Enterprise carefully watching the blips on his radar screen. They seemed to be coming into the atmosphere from outer space. He was now glad that he had not headed for the Area 52 region, because that was where he figured these new space ships were headed too. Instead he was heading southeast towards a City called Phoenix to see what might be down there in that area.

When Tormatha emerged from the dimensional rift that had brought him here from his world he smiled to himself. Yes this planet would do nicely for him to start building his Kingdom. He would take this from the humanoids and make it his new home and they would become his servants in time and he would be their God!

Several days later after getting some well deserved r&r, the team jumped on the jet skis and headed towards the center of the huge lake cavern. After about a couple of hours travel they reached the island where the elite military base was located. Now they would recon the base and try to find out what had happened that had caused them to lose touch with Ocean City.

Rocky Mountains, 200 miles from Denver, Colorado

The armored column rolled through a mountain pass dotted with burned out structures. Colonel Zharoff looked out and saw a large Abrams Tank with a gaping hole in its side. A charred skeleton hung out of the hole, a testiment to the war thirty years ago. He removed his PDA from its holster and checked the GPS.

Only 194 miles to go... he said. It was estimated to take approximately One more day until they got to Denver. Zharoff had recieved a message from Command earlier to engage in diplomacy should there be any organized group that was found along the way. There were rumors of mysterious gasses in the area so everyone was ordered to adorn their CB Masks; scary looking black gasmasks made of anti-ballistics material. He was almost positive that if anybody who had seen the tragedy came across them, they'de be scared shitless all over again, especially when they heard where they came from. These Elites were like Demons straight outta Hell.

"Yes, it's far faster. I built it for four - I've needed to carry dignitaries before, even if it's a little cramped."

After the gyrocopter was wheeled out of the endless networks of caverns, he spent a moment reattaching all the blades and tuning it for rough launch. It wasn't the best thing for aircraft launch, but the dirt strip would suffice.

Once everybody had piled in and strapped themselves in, 6655321 busying himself keeping watch, Aidan launched the Gyrocopter, flinging it over the forest.

The journey took only fifteen minutes (because all journeys must be rounded to the nearest five minutes), during which time they had a marvellous view of the Kormanthor Forest and the surrounding mountains.

As they neared Mechanus, those who had never flown before might have been seized by a sudden apprehension as the giant gear platform neared. The gear continued to rotate, slowly, as the Wheels of Progress slowed its descent, the loud creaking of the gears getting louder as they approached.

The wheels extended, and the small aircraft-helicopter hybrid touched down, landing on a tooth.

The hatch popped open and Aidan climbed out first, followed by Alex. By the time Arkadi had climbed out, a clockwork golem had already arrived at the scene, and he was busy filling out paperwork for his new weapon, Arkadi, his weapons, and various requisitioning documents.

Alex walked over to Arkadi.

"It'll just be a moment while the boss fills out the paperwork for our visit. Take a moment to get used to the turning, and watch out for the residents."

Just as he said that, a gnome wearing a leather work uniform rushed past, with a frustrated "Outta my way!".

"They sure are friendly here," Arkadi said with a chuckle. He unloaded his duffle bags from the baggage hold and slung them over his shoulder. He then clicked a button on the side of his helmet's eyepiece that scanned the area. There were numerous humans, but there was also a large number of smaller sentient creatures as well. His eyepice labeled them all 'non-hostiles' for the moment.

Denver Valley, Colorado

It was a slightly overcast day when the Armored Coulumn moved down into the Denver Valley. Many of the Elites and Survey/Mining personell, taking advantage of the nice day, were riding on the outside of their respective vehicles. They were still wearing all of their armor and CB Masks due to orders, but they didn't really have a problem with it. Colonel Zharoff looked out across the low hills and plains, scanning the horizon for the city Command had told them to travel to. After one or two quick looks around, he saw a glint off in the distance. He took out a pair of binoculars and focused in. It was still miles away, but the skyscrapers were clearly seen through the magnified picture.
Only a few more clicks to go... he said to himself. He went online the BattleNet and sent a message to the Elites and miners.

Attention troops, this is Colonel Zharoff. We will be entering the city in about two hours, and if there is anyone there after all, I want us to look imposing and proud. I know my Elites have their weapons out already, but I also need the surveyors and miners to get their weapons out too. If you have a Theron Jack, fly it high. I want us to look like liberators, not invaders.

"You should see them when there's a project in the area." replied Alex, smirking slightly as a human wearing a red cap climbed up a control tower and yelled across the cog with a megaphone.

"Incoming Zeppelin, We need the 8th pad cleared!"

A considerable group of assorted humans, gnomes, dwarves, kobolds, goblins and even a clockwork golem rushed in and hustled the gyrocopter off into a garage.

"We'd better move. You don't want to be too close when a Zeppelin comes down."

Aidan finished writing out the paperwork and handed it to the golem, which examined it momentarily and passed him a bit of paper before walking off.

"Alright, we'd best get moving. I'll take you to meet Gellran." said Aidan, a kobold wearing a red cap prodding him with a landing light irritatedly to get moving.

As the reached the tunnel to the other side of the gear, Alex, who was walking closely behind Arkadi gave a few quick tips. Normally they just ran round the cog to the other side, but Arkadi was new here and the tunnels were somewhat safer.

"Careful - gravity is subjective here. Keep your eyes on the cog if you feel dizzy, and let Aidan pull you across when we go across the cogs."

They emerged on the opposite side of the cog, and could look up to see the Del-Ostin-Ei section on the cog far below. Another cog interlocked with the one they were on, and looked like a turning wall.

"Amazing, isn't it?" said Aidan, looking up at the rest of Mechanus. "Just take in the sight for now, the jump window will come around in about five minutes."

As the cog turned around to the wall, Aidan leapt up, apparently standing on it without effort. He held his arm out to Arkadi, walking slowly to keep up with the rotation.

Five miles outside of Denver at Denver International Airport.

The armored column took a detour and stopped at the airport. While twenty Elites and ten miners kept an eye on the vehicles, the other 70 men went into the airport in search of valuables. Colonel Zharoff and his two trusted subordinates Captain Nikanor and Captain Putin walked into the old gift shop and looked around. Zharoff walked over to a box filled with polished rocks and sifted his hand through them.

"I like this place...it is quiet." he said in his striaght to the point speaking.

"Indeed, sir." said Nikanor.

The soldiers and miners stayed for another few hours and celebrated their safe passage to Denver. A few of the engineers found a stash of flares and went outside blowing them off in the night sky for an hour while they celebrated over some bottles of wine they had found in a resteraunt.

"Heh. It's not as bad as you think - only 12 hours out of every day for a shift. During that time it looks a bit frantic, but it's actually rather relaxed. The airport, I mean. Most of the rest of our jobs are 16 hour cycles, and the independent ones tend to go up to 20 hours, if only because most projects are really quite fascinating." replied Aidan, completely oblivious to the fact that he just described his own line of profession as a 120 hour week.

"There's breaks on Sundays, of course, and the bazaar is held then in Del-Ostin-Ei quarter."

Another gear here, a tunnel there, and a monorail trip later, they arrived at a door, with the the words 'Workshop #886'.

Fishing a small key from his bag, Aidan opened the door.

"I share this workshop with Gellran. It's still work hours, so he should be in."

As they crossed into the threshold of the room, a dwarf looked up from a workbench, pulling up a magnifier band.

"Back already, Aidan?"

"Ran into some trouble with the Kormanthor Forest. Seems there's an angry druid there. This is Arkadi, he's from Theron."

Aidan gestured to Arkadi and addressed him.

"I'll be in my workshop enchanting my new gear and stocking up. Could you drop off all your gear at some stage? I'll need to treat them against disintegration. Alex, show Arkadi to my quarters and around Del-Ostin-Ei if he wants."

The dwarf got up and walked over to Arkadi, as Aidan vanished into his section of the workshop.

"Pleased to meet you. I'm Gellran, Engineer-Researcher." he said, extending a hand. "Any friend of Aidan's is a friend of mine. Have a look around the workshop and let me know if there's anything that catches your eye."

The workshop appeared quite messy, its storerooms seemingly bursting with equipment. However, upon even cursory examination, the parts were revealed to be quite well organised, and finished creations sat on a shelf to the side.

High above and northeast of the government base once called Area 52 the Jerle Nocolips, a sleek, newly built spelljammer floated silently escorted by twelve of the Chosens Winged Riders on Gold Dragons. The Jerle reprsented fifty percent of the adventures group from Myth Essembra that had been assigned the task of defending Kormanthorian interest in the Area 52 conflict.
Aust Amakiir -aka- The Ghost had been given command of this unit and had flew ahead to scout for the ship. Below Airdriell and westward flew the second group of space marine planes quickly decending towards the Area 52 spaceport. Much closer to the ground but still to the west of Area 52 the backup group of Winged Riders commanded by the Princess rode their Gold Dragons looking for safe landing sites for their mounts. After making sure everyone was where they were supposed to be Gwenyth stepped through a dimensional gateway with her familair and disappeared.

Seconds later Gwenyth appeared in the lowest level of Area 52, within the sealed vault where the crashed alien ship is stored. Immediately she started errecting a magical shield around the craft, a shield that only she could breach. Seconds later the spell is finished and the shield is in place and then the craft suddenly disappeared into the same dimensional gateway Gwenyth had arrived through.

After a few minutes looking around the shop, Arkadi turned to Gellran.

"Do you have any grenades?" he asked. "I have a few of the usual, but I think I have something that might impress you." Arkadi reached into his duffel and retrieved an M-3 Sonic Grenade. Gellran took the grenade from Arkadi and examined it carefully under his eyepiece.

"Yes, a few things like that." he replied, taking an odd looking bead necklace from his neck and passing it to Arkadi. It appeared to have a single large bead, with increasingly smaller beads going around it.

"Careful with that - It's a Necklace of Fireballs, and if you pop off one of those beads and throw it, it explodes - the big ones being more powerful. Really handy for self defence."

He examined the grenade a bit further for a moment, before opening a drawer and taking out a smallish jar of a whitish ointment.

"Tell you what - I'll trade you this jar of restorative ointment for a couple of those grenades. There's about ten applications in this, and I don't doubt it'll be useful."

The label on the jar read simply 'Restorative Ointment', the directions directly underneath.

In event of poisioning, ingest one dose of this ointment, or rub one dose on poisoned wound. In event of disease, rub one dose on any infected portion. In event of injury, apply one dose to the injured area.

This jar contains 10 doses.

Arkadi did get the impression that Gellran was prepared to give something else up as well, if he asked.

There were all manner of interesting items upon the shelves - potions, oils, wands, bags, cloaks, assorted jewelry, odd items, and so on. No doubt Gellran would consent to a trade for any of these if asked.

Rand Aurelius stood on the steps of the main building of the Denver Civics Center, gazing out towards the assembled crowd of at least a thousand Denver survivors, along with roughly a hundred from Boulder and thirty from Colorado Springs. He smiled, mostly to himself. He raised his right hand and the crowd fell silent.

Rand began speaking in a loud voice, amplified by a recently discovered megaphone found in an abandoned building in the city.

"I would like to thank you all for coming here today. I have summoned all of you here for I wish to outline the future that we must accomplish together.

I have several major projects planned to revitalize civilization and allow us to start rebuilding a nation forged through our unity and preservance. The first project is to build much needed farmland between Denver and Colorado Springs, as the land appears to be quite fertile. This will guanatree us a steady food supply. The second project is to rebuild these magificient towers of steel, metal, and glass here in Denver to provide ample living room and a warm home for everybody. The third project is extending the Boulder - Denver railroad line to Colorado Springs, allowing ease of transport between all three towns. The fourth project is to rebuild and repair the aqueduct system to bring fresh mountain water into Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs so we will have clean water to drink all the time and our farms will always be irrigated. The fifth and final immediate project is to refurbish and rebuild the sewer and waste treatment systems in all three towns so that the garbage, human wastes, and such won't stink up our lovely homes, and we won't get sick from breathing foul air."

The crowd cheered loudly as the prospect of a hopeful future begins to shrine brighter and brighter with each project Rand proposes.

Rand cleared his throat and continues speaking after a moment's silence.

"I have thought long and hard about the future of our society and how we must not repeat the mistakes of the past. I have finally come up with a solution and it is quite simple. I have formulated the rules we need for society into what I term 'The Seven Laws'. That's right, we only need seven laws, not a thousand or a million as we once had before the Apocalypse. I shall present the Seven Laws.

Law One: Citizen shall not kill, mutilate, rape, or destroy another citizen, especially out of malice. Should such actions be taken in self-defense or in aid of another in distress, then punishment shall be either quite leninent or suspended with the exception of rape.

Law Two: A citizen shall be allowed to express himself or herself in whatever way he or she wishes through the freedom inherent in doing so, without any oppression or repression.

Law Three: Citizens shall have four core values. Compassion, decency, honor, and integrity. These four core values are necessary to ensure our continued existence and maintain the unity we need so that we may stand strong aganist anything that may threaten our survival.

Law Four: Citizens shall eschew the notion of Good versus Evil, as it was this conflict that led to our downfall on numerous occasions. Citizens believing in Good or Evil being the superior ideology will inevitably violate Laws One, Two, and Three.

A pure Good society would seek to repress free speech and the sake of freedom in an attempt to prevent any ideas that may challenge the Good ideology from spreading. A pure Good society would also eventually violate the four core values, as zealous followers of Good would have no honor or decency in suppressing anyone that disagrees with the concept of Good. A person may fear to aid others lest the person experience punishment for breaking a law or taboo. An example of this would be a person hearing a struggle outside, but it is past curfew. The person witnesses the struggle from a window and watches a woman being beat up by a drunk husband. In a Good society, the person would be breaking the law of curfew and the law of not inflicting bodily harm upon others to aid the woman, but within the society I wish to create, there would be no curfew laws, thus the person would be able to aid that victim woman without fear of punishment. Although Law One dictates that murder, mutilation, rape, and such are forbidden, it explicitly states that enforcement would be much stricter if the aggressor undertook the action out of malice, not of self-defense or wishing to rescue others.

Similiar issues apply to the Evil ideology. It clearly violates Law One in all aspects, as a society full of Evil would indeed have malice permeate the society and encourage such behavior. Likewise, Law Three would be broken quite easily as within an Evil society, there is no integrity and decency. There might be honor, but their twisted version of it. There is no compassion in an Evil society as it is essentially a society where the weak are destroyed to make way for the strong. It could be argued that Evil could adhere to Law Two, with an anarchy type of society, or completely violate Law Two with oppressive governance and the 'Strong destroys Weak' system.

Alas, if we are to continue to function as a society, we must abhor both Good and Evil, for both sides invariably come into conflict not just with each other, but with themselves. Good will destroy themselves repeatedly in a conflict with Evil, causing the deaths of many people and untold destruction in such wars. Not only this, but Good is essentially a society based around Law and Order, which will lead to stangation and the inability to adapt to situations quickly enough. Thus, that inability will be their downfall as well. The Evil society is one of Chaos and Anarchy. It will destroy itself repeatedly aganist Good, and destroy itself through internal conflict. According to their belief system, 'The Strong Shall Prevail', and there can only be one strongest person or creature in such a society. Once that strongest creature or person has destroyed all that is weaker than it, there will be no society left save for the creature or person.

Thus the existence of Law Four. This law ensures that we will have freedoms that are lacking in a Good society, while having the four core values that are lacking in a Evil society. In addition, this Law shall ensure that we shall not end up warring aganist ourselves as Good versus Evil would, and consquently save untold amounts of life and spare enormous amounts of destruction.

Law Five: Citizens are allowed to pursure whatever their heart desires, as there shall be no caste system or any restrictions put upon what duties, career, specialization, desires, or ambitions a person may seek as long as it does not violate the Seven Laws. The only two exceptions to this Law would be military and enforcement personnel, as they may have to violate Law One, but that is to preserve our society from any threat that may seek to destroy it and end our precarious existence. Thus, the self-defense clause is fulfilled for the military and enforcement personnel.

Law Six: Citizens must aid others who are disadvantaged. For instance, a family loses their home to a fire or disaster. That family is to be taken into another home so that their life shall continue, instead of abandoning them to become homeless. If a human is born with no legs, that person is to be given all the tools he or she needs to lead a productive life such as a wheelchair, prothestic legs, crutches, a volunteer transportation driver, and so forth at no expense of the disabled person. If a person has no food left, we shall provide that person food to ensure that the person does not die from starvation. And so forth.

Law Seven: Adaptability. Our society must be able to adapt to situations as they arise, expected or unexpected. This is especially important as we live in very precarious times, our numbers small, the Great Unknown is vast, and anything can and might happen at any given time. This is why the other Laws are cruical, as it allows us to be united and empowers us to adapt to the unknown and unexpected without tearing ourselves to pieces.

There you have it, seven simple laws. There is no need for millions of laws, vast bureaucracies, choked court systems, and simple justice can be guanatreed for those who need it. At the same time, the basic citizen's right to life freedoms and the ability to choose who and what they desire to be are not infringed upon, unlike in oppressive police states or the societies that embrace Good in all of its zeal."

The crowd was silent for a minute as they digested the information presented to them. Several people began clapping their hands, and it set off a gradual chain reaction until every person in the crowd was clapping and shouting accolades. They knew that their hope for a stable society and guanatreed continued survival was at hand. They were ready to take control of their destiny for the first time in over thirty years since the Apocalypse.

Three hours later:

Rand Aurelius was looking upon the hand-made map of the surveyed lands between Denver and Colorado Springs where the proposed farms were to be built. He heard a knock at the door within his office at the Civics Center.

"Come in."

A rugged scout opened the door and gave Rand a salute before speaking.

"Several scouts have detected a sizable force of what seems to be metallic beasts and some humans with rather dangerous looking weapons approaching the city."

Rand dropped his map abruptly and stared at the scout.

"Metallic beasts? Must be tanks. It does not bode well with such weapons of war on our doorstep, but Law Seven dictates that we must and will adapt to this new development. I shall go with you to the general location of this group."

The scout barely suppressed a cringe.

"Sir, it's too dangerous. What if they are indeed hostile as you imply?"

Rand scoffed.

"They would be just as dangerous right here in the Capitol building as out there. I will not back down from such threats. If we backed down from threats, our society would go nowhere and we'd all be cowards. Lead me to that group, and that's a direct order."

The scout sighed as he stepped out of the office with Rand following in his usual armored attire. Another hour passed by before the two approached the last reported location of the seemingly hostile and militant convoy.

"Alright everyone! Move out!" shouted Colonel Zharoff to the miners and Elites. The personell boarded their vehicles and set out on Highway 70 towards Denver. The soldiers still had full gear and Ballistic masks on, looking just as scary as they had before. They rode with their tank and APC top hatches open, enjoying the breeze as they rode down the highway smashing over abandoned cars here and there. The miners and surveyers rode on equipment transports, smoking and staring out at the city.

Ten minutes later...

Zharoff was enjoying the breeze when a soldiers voice was heard on his BattleNet.

"Sir! there are people approaching on horseback ahead. What are our orders?"

Zharoff beamed. Finally, more people... "Stop next to them and let me disembark. I want to speak to these men."

"Roger, sir. Coming to full halt." The line of Marakov MBT's and transports opulled to a stop by the men on horses. Zharoff and his two subordinates Captains Nikanor and Putin climbed off the tank and hopped down by the men. The Elites stared at the men through their ballistic masks, as did the miners. Zharoff approached the man and spoke.

"I am Colonel Zharoff of the Theron," he said through the mask. "May I ask what your names are?"

Putin looked at Nikanor and said something in Russian, Nikanor nodded and walked over to the tank. He retrieved a transmitter and hailed Theron Command.

"Yes, Captain Nikanor." said a woman on the other side of the reciever.

"I must speak with Supreme Commander Raam immediately." he said.

"One moment." said the woman. There was some shuffling, a click, then Raam's gruff voice went on the line.

"Yes, Captain?" he said.

"Commander Raam, sir, we have met a few men near Denver in sector RM2. We are establishing diplomacy as we speak."

"Good, Captain. Keep me posted"

"Roger that, sir."

"I am Rand Aurelius, leader of the Citizens of Colorado."

Nikanor returned to Zharoff and Putin and whispered something in Russian to Zharoff. He nodded, then began talking again.

"I am just going to go right to the point. We are here to survey the mountains in this area for a mine. Our scanning devices have shown large amounts of raw material and ore in this sector that our Commanders in the Underground are interested in." Zharoff removed his PDA and brought up a map of RM2, showing the cities of Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Denver, and Boulder and red spots where large amounts of ore were on it. He walked over to Rand and showed him. "These are the areas here in red where we are trying to mine." he said. "Our presence here is not for war, it is mainly for protection. Greg Churan stood in total awe. He was going to go offer his services to Rand Aurelius's government, but something was in his way. He had just left Colorado Springs after the shocking revalation of a new nation forming. Now here he was standing watching mechanical beasts drive into town. He walked over and stood near where the leaders were talking.

Rand arched an eyebrow.

"I must be honest with you. There is a new nation based in Denver, Colorado Springs, and Boulder, several thousand strong. Consquently, we will need these raw resources to rebuild society, supply building materials, repair ruined infrastructure, and so forth.

Again, I must ask yet another honest question. Would your people like it if a foreign power decides to mine or establish resource extraction points right on your doorstep, and deny your people much needed rebuilding material and livelihoods?

Perhaps we could reach a compromise. My people mine these areas and then sell some of the ores to your people at a discount, or trade you some of the ores for some Theron construction equipment? Your people seem to be somewhat advanced as they managed to produce, repair, or develop these new types of tanks."

Zharoff thought about the compromise, then decided to lay down one of his own.

"I do not mean to sound arrogant, but I do not think your mining methods or equipment can produce the efficiency of ours. Come over here and observe." he said as he lead Rand over to one of the massive BTR-18's. He shouted something at the miners and they rushed to the cover and pulled it off. It unveiled a large device that looked more like a tank than a mining vehicle. "This is a Directed Energy Mining vehicle. It uses a laser to burn away the rock around the ores." he walked over to another BTR-18 and shouted again. The miners pulled off the cover and unveiledanother large vehicle. "This is a Mk.9 extraction Module. it has a 98% efficiency rate for extracting minerals from their ores." Rand looked a little confused so he decided to talk a little more about the Theron. "We, the Theron that is, live in an Underground City. We deal with attacks from imps and other nasty creatures daily and must carve out more warrens each day for supplies, mining, and living quarters. I think that if we worked together in a way, such as cooperative mining projects and technology sharing, we could both benefit greatly from this. We could import food from our agricultural centers in the Undergrounds to assist your people. My superiors sent me here to establish relations and be cooperative. I believe it would be best for you and your people if you let our two nations become close to one another."

"We have already instituted plans on developing farmlands for our people. We have also begun work on other civic and infrastructure projects such as aqueducts, sewage systems, rebuilding homes, and so forth. Thus, you see why we need the metal ores.

Perhaps a fifty-fifty split of the ore? Half of the ore goes to your people, and half goes to my people. Should that be agreeable, we can work out further trading and cooperation agreements as we learn more about each other.

Please pardon my uncertainty, as having such an armed convoy appear as yours is a remainder of what occured pre-Apocalypse. "No, they are very real." he said. "We have automated turrets that usually get the bastards before they can breach the Underground, but every now and then one of 'em gets through and sweeper teams must be deployed. Just last week a nuclear retrieval team was attacked by beasts called kloa-ti that are only destroyable by directed energy weaponry. I understand your apprehension towads these Makarovs, but I assure you they are fully necessary for our safety. As for the ore, a fifty-fifty split is a reasonable compromise." Nikanor whispered another thing in Zharoff's ear. Zharoff nodded, then continued talking. "Nikanor tells me that Command has issued a decree allowing surplus equipment to be sent to you and your people. They ask if it would be possible for an embassy of sorts to be set up in your capital. If you wish, you could do the same in the Underground. I'm sure there is some space in the Central District for an embassy."

After a couple of days, the work was done. Aidan presented Arkadi with his modified equipment, proofed against the magics so commonly exercised by the Fey.

He set Arkadi's assorted armour on the table. It looked slightly larger, as if a layer of small devices had been woven into it, and the entire suit save the eyepieces were coated in a thin layer of almost transparent grey-silver substance.

"I worked off one of Gellran's designs for this one. He developed a compound resistant to magic. I coated your armour in a concentrate of it, and put in a layer of transmutation countermeasures. It was wonderously expensive, but it should render you pretty much immune to the really dangerous stuff like disintegrate, and make you resistant to pretty much everything else."

(OOC: Proof against Transmutation, Spell resistance.)

Aidan took out Arkadi's weapons from the cart. They were mostly unchanged, appearing only slightly more polished. Most notably, the Titan H-AR had a pair of tiny power crystals set just in front of the trigger. The shock baton had obviously been modified around the midsection, but otherwise seemed quite normal.

"With these I mostly treated them against damage. With the Titan, I rigged an accelerator enhancement to it, and with the Baton I added a 'Stun' and 'Kill' mode switcher."

"Show off."

(OOC: Titan is a Haste weapon [increased fire rate], Baton has enchanced, switchable modes - can alternate freely between lethal electrical damage and nonlethal damage.)

"Besides that, I left them mostly alone - I don't have the expertise with these weapons to modify them further without damaging them."

Aidan had also modified his own grenade launcher, quite extensively and with entire shells being copied and modified. While he had in some ways crippled the launcher's abilities, his augmentations made it more appropriate for an engineer. It too was proofed against easy destruction.

He now wore an armour mesh under his shirt, which was warded against magic similarly to Arkadi's armour.

Rand nodded slowly.

"It is agreed then. An exchange of embassies and a half-and-half split of ore sounds quite reasonable. In regards for surplus equipment, we might have a problem.

We have no electricity, as the electromagnetic surge from the Apocalypse apparently wiped out all the electronics in the Colorado area. We have had to do things from scratch, such as steam machine technology, and a majority of 19th century technology with current modern understanding and knowledge such as medicine, treatments, and astronomy thrown into the mix. Therefore, we have no means of recharging electrical equipment, nor repair ruined ones until we manage to build an electronics factory or a large steam powered electricity power plant.

If there are such creatures as Imps, I do wonder what kinds of other creatures may exist in this post-apocalyptic world. Keep in mind, we are an isolated nation, and in the thirty years since the Apocalypse, we have not seen nor experienced any strange, unusual, mythical, or farfetched creatures or events in the Colorado area."

He followed silently, almost gliding along the floor and relying on his well-practised senses to see without seeing. It was quite important to keep up the imagery, so there would be little chance of a real expert analysis - not that the outsiders had any.

Still, they provided a source of information he could act upon easily should the need arise, and if he could locate an actual seer to take his place, all the better.

As Captain Westinghouse flew over the northern section of Phoenix he noticed a huge building complex near the center of town that looked like a arabian castle of centuries past. Flying circles around the complex he could see strange zombie like creatures milling about throughout a complex that seemed awash in glowing sand. Outside the complex, the city seemed a normal city with survivors going about their everyday routine. ' Well this is bloody strange ' he thought as he continued to study the show being played out below, there seemed a young man on some sort of motorized bicycle was making his get away from the castle.

After landing at the marina, the group entered a huge metal vault like door in the wall that lead into the city proper. Inside the protective wall was a beautifully designed city of mostly skyscaper type buildings of various designs of course, and wide open streets that were seemingly totally deserted. Suddenly a group of armed vehicles that seemed to be remotely controlled came sliding around the corner and starting spitting bullets at them!

The armored column waited for Rand to organize his scouts and get ready to depart.

Rand Aurelius nodded as he walked back towards his horse, musing to himself.

"They come with weapons, whereas we have yet to have any to defend ourselves with. We must adhere to Law Seven, adaptability. We must be friends with these Therons.

For now."

Rand gestured towards his scouts in an apparent order to move out. Rand rode back into Denver slowly, so not to alarm anyone, Coloradian or Theronian. Not too long afterwards, Rand managed to lead the Therons next to the Civics Center.

He turned towards Colonel Zharoff and spoke.

"This is where the Coloradian government functions.

We have no buildings suitable for an embassy yet as we are currently in the process of rebuilding the city. We were under the impression we were the only humans left on this world.

Now that we know this not to be so, we shall begin work on an embassy section not too far from here."

Rand quickly departed to the Civics Center to look up the lists of people with identifiable skill and inherent talent. He scanned the list, and located several men and women who were within the city and available to pull from construction duty.

Within a hour, Rand returned to Zharoff's convoy with the team. The members of the team had surprise, curiousity, and a bit of fear within their eyes. After some reassurances, Rand manages to convince them to join the convoy. He approached Zharoff.

As the group left the workshop, followed by a large construct of gears and steel clutching an huge bastard sword and a tower shield. The bastard sword was etched with glowing eldritch runes, and composed of an unnaturally sharp jet black material. Electricity seemed to flow through it, and brilliant blue bolts of electricity arced across to the golem and onto the shield.

The shield was a different matter - it seemed almost normal, except for a stylised blue representation of a gear.

Aidan had needed to call in a few favours for such a well equipped golem, but he hadn't counted on it being called upon so quickly.

As the group left the workshop, a gnome wearing an army-green officer's hat was waiting there, flanked by two leather garbed soldiers holding muskets with brass scopes.

"Engineer-Errant Thamere - I've received word that you have recently requisitioned a Category 8 Clockwork Golem. Ordinarily, this would pose issues, but given your previous record, this is not a problem. However, the expedition which just returned has uncovered what appears to be an abandoned military base on an island. The scouting party we sent didn't report back, and the site has been flagged as a possible artefact site."

"It's as good a place as any, Corven. When can we depart?"

The gnomish officer noted the foreigner, but dismissed his presence - Aidan was a good friend of his, and he trusted the engineer implicitly.

"The next launch window will be in about an hour. Head down to the zeppelin when you're ready."

---

The zeppelin flight was uneventful, the mithril-clad aircraft sailing effortlessly through the air powered by a bound air elemental. As they reached the site, the platform lowered slowly down away from sight, and they touched down on the water.

One of the soldiers was preparing a boat which looked remarkably like one of those cartoony sailing ships with a fan blowing the sails. Of course, the torpedo tube-like apeture contained a bound air elemental, and the ship would be quite fast.

Corven addressed the two.

"Alright, head on in - We'll stand by for evacuation if you need it."

As Zharoff and Rand waited outside the hatch, the crew of the BTR-4 tried to make themselves look as friendly as possible; something hard to do with so much equipment and such covering your body. Zharoff shook their hands and reassured them that the trip would be alright. Once everyone was loaded, Rand and Zharoff boarded in. One of the drivers leaned back through the small walkway between the troop hold and the cockpit and spoke to the new crew.

"Welcome aboard, everyone. I'll be your driver today. First off, I need all of you to pull down the lever above your head. This is going to bring down your harness." The passengers did as they were told. "Next, in case of an emergency, click the red button on your harness. This is going to snap it off so you can hurry out. And finally, to take off the harness at the end of the trip, just push the lever up again. Thanks, and have a nice ride." The driver shut the walkway hatch and kickstarted the engine. The other vehicles followed suit and soon they were on their way up towards the first site near the edge of the valley. Zharoff turned to Rand and showed him a red spot on his PDA screen.

"This is the first stop. Sensors have shown there is a large lode of Nickel and Zinc here that was thrown up during the cataclysm. The Nickel should be helpful to you since it isn't very reactive. You could use it for water pipes or drums to save up water or other materials."

"Unfortunately, if we knew exactly what was inside, we wouldn't need to ask you to go investigate. The last thing our scries showed was screams and gunfire - not unlike the weapons you Therons use. The clockwork golem ought to be strong enough to survive any combat, so you should be able to explore."

He paused to a moment, then whispered to Aidan. "Does he know about the properties of golems?" "No."

Later that evening Col. Kline lead the teams entrance into the lab through a skylight, repelling down to the carpeted floors of the administrative offices. Then quickly followed his map of the complex down into the sub basement R & D labs. As the team entered the labs storage faculties they drew collective breaths in awe of what they found. The underground faculty was huge, on the left a huge ship of some kind floated in it's launch bay. On the right a huge craft floated in midair, tethered to the ground with many strands of rope. Beyond these two ships lye row after row of high tech weaponry of every description. “ My God! ... these people have out done themselves! stated Randy as he stared at various types of tanks and what could only be mecha! Then as he started to move farther into the underground room he heard the unmistakable sound of military weapons being readied to fire. Suddenly soldiers appeared from everywhere, and all of their weapons were trained right on his team. Then he heard a woman’s voice say, “ Stop right there and drop your weapons, or we will open fire on you!

For the second time the AI was recieving intel on a group traveling through the underwater entrance to the site. However this group was not recogized, as had been the first. This group was entering in subs, instead of scuba gear like the first. It had allowed the first group to enter because it knew that it's bot's in the city would either kill or assimilate them to it's will.
But this new group was an unknown, hense it was considered more dangerous then the first. Immediately the command was sent out to all bot's to seek and destroy the the invaders. The first group of bot's to answer these orders were the rangefinders, who fired four torpedoes at the subs from disguised launchers.

(Are the torpedoes all from distinct launchers, as in one torpedo will not eliminate them all?)

"Torpedoes!" yelled Aidan, as the explosives collided with the hull of his submersible. He quickly opened a communications channel with Alex.

"Alex, can you get a trace on those torpedoes?"

"Can do, boss."

So far, the tough armour of the submarine held up, but another blow would not bode well. As Alex fired light spells onto the traced positions of the launchers, Aidan fired off the torpedoes, one to each of the first two launchers which had fired. The submarine switched to a pair of fireball wands mounted in the front, while Aidan infused the vessel with repair magics in an effort to reinforce it before he was killed.

(It's easy then. Alex traced the launch paths and identified the launchers, then Aidan fired off his torpedoes, one for each.)

Alex radioed back the positions of the launcher, rapidly tracing back the projectiles to their sources.

As he described the locations of each of the two launchers to Aidan, he saw the two torpedoes detach and home into each of the concealed launchers that fired at them. He wanted to kick himself for not noticing them sooner, and would need to keep a closer eye out for such traps in the future. Once the door was closed Nikki ran to Aust and jumped into his arms knocking him to the floor, then started kissing him as she said " Where have you been all this time Aust, I thought you were dead! And how are you still so young looking? Apatschin continued to stand silently but thought that this was an interesting development to be sure.

" Nikki honey it's a very long story and now is not the time! said Aust after regaining his breath. " But I assure you I am just a glad to have finally found you as you are me. " Aust continued. Suddenly Aust felt a magical presence outside the window, because of this he turned his head towards the window in time to see the butterfly morph into a humanoid. Instantly Aust cast a shield spell to protect Nikki, immediately the shield came into existance surrounding them both.

Adrian Meridian sat on his tank bike on a tall dune overlooking the City of Phoenix in a near panic! He had just barely escaped from the nightmare castle that now stood in the northern section of the city. Inside he had witnessed the opening of a glass container that seemed filled with glowing sand. After being opened the glowing sand had emptied out the bottom of the container and started spreading out in all directions turning all life into glowing zombie like creatures. The speed of his bike was all that had saved him, fortunately the spread seemed to have stopped at the gates of the castle so at least Phoenix was spared this fate at least for the time being he thought.

Ko Kosh, Noticing the shielding, "Sorry about barging in, but you dont exactly have a ton of doors around these parts."

"You're my uncle?"

"Are you the son of Noch?"

"Yes"

"Than yes, I am your uncle Ko Kosh, you are an Inga, and judging by that fireball, a member of the nature caste, like your father."

"My father?"

"Yes, he was my brother, you look like he did at your age."

"I have been alone for years without my family, I have so many questions, I dont know where to begin.."

"We can get to those later, if your friends don't mind, I will just accompany you on your path, it is not my place to change the road you are on, I will teach you who you are and about your people along the way."

Turning to his shielded companion, with a look of confusion in his eyes, "Do you mind if I bring another along?"

His heart beat faster, he did not realize it, but his life had changed forever.

Vana Worthington had once been a normal human female but that had been before the great tragedy. The magic that had been released into the unsuspecting world had changed her into the mutant now called Lady Cheeta! Only a few days ago while hunting in her full cheeta form she had run across the Druid Woodland. He had explained that a group of men from outside the forest had invaded the forest with metal monsters that destroyed much of his forest brethren. He said he was placing a price on their heads and had asked if she was interested. She had taken the assignment and was now tracking the men in question.

http://usera.imagecave.com/Kormanthor/Earth349/LadyCheeta.png

Tracking the men from the Forest had been more involved then she had thought it would be. Following the drilling machines had proven quite dangerous as she didn't like going so far underground because of the Kloa-ti, but then they had been spotted heading west so she too had started traveling west. She had hunted when she was hungry and drank from clear creeks along the way. She was a patient hunter, sooner or later she would catch up to them.

Aust listened to the exchange between Apatschin and the new arrival, apparently this man was Apatschin's long lost uncle. Aust realized that Ko Kosh most likely wasn't an immediate threat so he lowered the shield as he answered Apatschin's question, " Of course your uncle can come along. " she said.
After moving herself and Jeremy inside and consulting a number of books from her library of magic Qwia began the spell that would stop the werewomans magic within Jeremy if only temporarily. Minutes passed and finally the spell was completed. Raising her hands toward the young man she willed the spell out of her hands. A bright blue beam shot from her palms and entered Jeremy. At once he could feel a differance that was hard to put into words but he knew that she had succeeded.

The next day Qwia calls for her spelljammer ship, a few minutes later the ship is floating in the sky jsut above her compound which is just outside of Essembra's Mythal. Soon she was ready to start their journey so she cast a flight spell on her and Jeremy then they both flew up to board her ship. Qwia landed on the landing just outside the Bridge where she gave the Captain the coordinates of their destination then took Jeremy down below to assign her a stateroom for the voyage.

Col. Kline could see that these people were serious about their security and that they had him and his squad dead to rights. Without making any sudden moves Randy slowly motioned for his squad to drop their weapons.
" Well now you are smarter then I gave you credit for. " said the woman.

" I'll take that as a compliment. " said Col. Kline

The AI watched as the rangefinders torpedoes struck the two submarines expecting there total destruction. But unforunately the subs survived the attack and fired two torpedoes of their own after tracing the locations of the rangefinders launchers. Immediately he ordered a second firing of the launchers, but one of the subs torpedoes struck the first launcher just as it fired one lone torpedo which veered off wildly in the wrong direction. The torpedo turned this way and that and then finally nosed down into a cavern in the floor of the tunnel where it exploded! About the same time the first launcher reached critical mass and destroyed itself. However all this noise had awakened one of the beasts of the deep. The creature slowly rose up out of it's cavern to find who had distrubed it's sleep .... all it saw was the two subs.

The hook flew up to become stuck in the overhang with a knotted rope hanging down. As Adrian started climbing he noticed that his pathway through the forest was gone ... the forest was apparantly capable of regeneration.

"Sea Monster!" yelled Aidan, into the radio.

There was hardly any time to swing around and shoot the sea monster with the wands.

"Alex, we've got some sort of sea monster on our tails! Swing back round and hit it with an exhaustion ray!"

"Roger, Boss. Category 10 Exhauster, coming right up."

Alex swung around and charged the crystals, the diamonds turning jet black.

As the monster approached, twin beams of pure darkness - almost anti-light, even, erupted from the projectors, (hopefully) striking the monster and sapping it of its energy.

It was also handily non-lethal, so it probably wouldn't keep up the chase.

It would... just... feel... really... tired... all... of... a... sudden... *yawn*

Eoukaum was quickly gaining on her prey just as one of the smaller youngling destoyers turned back toward her. This one was thinner then the ones she considered the leaders. The leaders continued on as the runt of the liter swam directly at her. Sensing danger she maneuvered to the left just as two dark beams were sent towards her. Because of this one of the beams missed her completely, however she just wasn't fast enough to avoid both! The second beam grazed her armored underbelly, almost immediately she started feeling herself losing strength. Immediately she realized that she would need help catching these demons. So she sent out an SOS to her family saying she had been attacked by a strange enemy and required there help .... then she lost consciousness .... her limp body first slowing, then started to sink towards the sea floor.

The AI saw the metal man hit the sea creature with some kind of beam that caused it to lose consciousness. It also saw a number of the creatures relatives start out in search of Eoukaum, but they might be to slow to catch the subs since they had increased their speed again. So the AI dispatched two small surface craft to intercept the sub once they emerge from the tunnels.

Princess Lia Liadon had heard many conflicting stories about the people of Myth Essembra. Because on the day of her adulthood she had decided to travel to the Shining City to see for herself. Being a member of a secretive wood elf tribe had not made it an easy decision. Many of the tribal elders were against contacting the outside world at all. But Lia Liadon felt differantly, she new that to survive her people needed knowledge of the outside races. So after talking to her father the Chief she had set out for Kormanthor Forest. Now many weeks later she stood in the middle of the mountain road that lead from Phoenix to Myth Essembra. Below and before her the Valley Of Kormanthor lay waiting for her arrival.

Lia walked along the road careful not to cause harm to any living thing for a long time then suddenly as she topped the next hill Essembra appeared before her. She stood in awe looking at the bustling ultra modern metropolis protected by a shield of powerful eleven magic! Such a contradiction she thought. Its more beautiful then I could have ever imagined! After a few minutes she continued on towards the gateway entrance.

As Adrian started climbing he noticed that his pathway through the forest was gone ... the forest was apparantly capable of regeneration.

Adrian retrieved his hook rope and placed it back into his back pack then quickly walked across the balcony to a set of closed sliding glass doors. Just outside the doors he stopped. Then after examining the lock he pulled the appropriate lock pick from inside his Jacket. Seconds after inserting the pick Adrian smiled to himself as he heard a click that reported the tumblers had released the lock. Slowly he slid the door open being very careful not to make any loud noise, then closed them behind him.
The inside was very dark, so Adrian pulled his infrared goggles out of his backpack and put them on. Inside was a huge bedchamber, in the center of the room a huge canopied bed sat on a circular island that raised about a foot above the rest of the floor. On the opposite side of the room he could see closed double wooden doors. To the right of the doors nearly in the corner of the room was a open window with silky drapes that were being lightly blown by the breeze from outside. As Adrian started to cross the room towards the open window he realized that a woman lay in the bed with a gag in her mouth and her arms and legs locked in chains that were fastened to the four corners of the bed.
As he stood there drinking in her beauty he realized she was looking at him. Looking into her eyes he could see fear, but also hope! Was he there to kill her .... or .... rescue her? He smiled at her to reassure her he was not there to harm her. Then moved to the open window, standing to one side of the window he carefully look out the window. Outside he saw a wide expanse that lay between two sets of double gates. He could see a possible route of entry along the top of the wall, but he wanted to check his other possibilities. So with one last quick look out the window he moved off towards the double doors. The doors were locked but a window above the doors were open to allow the flow of fresh air into the interior of the castle. Activating his spider climb gloves & boots he moved to the wall on the right side of the doors and began climbing up the wall until he was centered above the window slicking to the wall upside down. After raising the goggles to his forehead he carefully peeked through the window into the hallway outside. Just as he had figured, there were guards stationed on either side of the doors. After lowering his goggles over his eyes once more he quickly crawled back down the wall and lowered himself onto the floor in a standing position. He then began a very careful examination of all four walls of the room. After about fifteen minutes of searching he found what he had hoped for in the form of a hidden doorway behind the pit of the fireplace. Only then did he stop, he could not leave the woman there defenseless. Quietly he started towards her bed.

In the same bedchambers 12hrs before …

Mathew awoke in a dark room laying on a strange bed with a canopy. But that wasn’t the worst of it, because as more feelings of his body started to return Matt realized that something just felt wrong. Suddenly the memories that had been repressed came flooding back into Matt’s mind. Matt remembered the incident that had placed him here had began on a chilly, dark night. The wind had been rushing restlessly though the trees as he had attempted to sleep. As he had finally began to drift into dreaming he felt a warm haze descend upon him. At that moment he could’ve sworn he heard a voice speaking to him through the rush of the leaves outside his open window. He felt sure that some presence was communicating to him through the voice of the wind.
Then the Dreams of devilish laughter accompanied by a feeling of falling and flying started. He had felt lost and disembodied, turning endlessly in a black void very much like what space must be like. He glided through this troubling darkness for what seemed like hours,
then I started to feel himself getting nearer to the waking world, and some of his fear had subsided as he felt himself becoming more attached to his body. Or at least that was what he had wrongly assumed.
Suddenly he had found himself in a bed, where sunlight drifted through gauze like curtains surrounding the bed.. He felt a warm quilt wrapped around him. Soft pillows and a deep mattress beneath him. He had felt warm and comforted as he had laid face down in the bed. But when he had went to move his hands up under his head he encountered something in his way. Something soft and fleshy blocked his hands path, something that was undeniably part of his own body, something that felt like a woman's breast … but that was ridiculous …. wasn’t it he remembered thinking. Furrowing his brow his mind had sharpened until he had become fully awake. He remembered having ran his hands over his face and chest, and down his stomach and along his legs, verifying what he had thought to be a bizarre conclusion. It was then he had realized the truth …. he had become a woman, he was now a she. She also remembered a tall and muscular man who had come into her room. He had been wearing a turban, robe and sandals. He had called her Gwendolyn and told her that he had brought her there to become his wife, and that she had no hope of escape, then he had left the room ordering her restrained and guards to be posted outside the doors as he left. So overwhelmed by these strange experiences she had cried herself to sleep.

When she awoke once more it was again dark, and she was frightened as she lay on the bed looking about the room. How could this have happened? She had never believed in magic before, but it seemed the only answer. Suddenly she heard someone outside the balcony doors. Could it be that crazy man in a turban returning to make good on his crazy idea? A few seconds later the balcony doors opened slowly, and a young man wearing jeans, a tee-shirt, & a motorcycle jacket silently slipped through the doors like a ghost. He didn’t see her at first, then after putting some kind of goggles over his eyes he finally did as he started to cross the room. She saw him look at her and smile, which made her feel somewhat better. But then instead of freeing her he crossed the room to the open window and looked out, which infuriated her! After looking out for a minute or so he again crossed the room to the doors the turban man had used to leave. What he did then startled her so much she forgot her anger. He climbed straight up the wall to a position above the open window above the doors and looked out, then returned to the floor as it was no big deal! For the next so many minutes he circled the room examining all the walls for something. Finally he seemed satisfied when he found a secret door behind the fire place. Then when she was sure he would disappear through that little hole behind the fireplace leaving her to her fate …. he turned and started towards her.

New York Quarantine Zone

The city was dull and bleak. Chemical weapons had scarred the surrounding area into a desert with the city being the lone oasis of civilization in the area. The statue of liberty stood alone off to the side of the city, the torch laying off to the side.

Deep underneath the city streets, in the subways, a small glow emmitted from a burrow dug out of the wall. Inside sat a few humans wearing military-style pants and old leather jackets. They sat around a fire cooking up a large shank of meat.

This is just one of the sites of what used to be New York.

After scouting much of the outer continent by air Tormatha finally found a location for her first community. It was a large island in the middle of huge tract of swampy everglades where she found a village of simple people whom he decided she would transform into her chosen people. It was a simple thing to enchant their water and food supply with a polymorph other spell to get the ball rolling then she morphed from dragon to water and lost himself in the murky water of the everglades surrounding the island.

Under the Murky Everglades

Tormatha awakened feeling refreshed and invigorated from her long rest during which she had scrolled through all the landscape in her mind that she had flown over when she had first arrived here on this world. She knew she would need magic to survive, alot of it. She also knew that she could obtain everything she needed in Essembra, but she would have to face two very large problems getting there, the Kormanthor Forest and the hated Gold Dragons that protected it. She had sensed a very old and extremely powerful druidic presence living within that place. Tormatha hated Druids almost as much as she hated Gold Dragons, this particular one she hated more then most. He was one of the few beings here that might have a chance of defeating her plans for this world, especially with the help of the Dragons and their Riders. She would have to be very careful not to be detected to early in her quest. Yes extremely careful!

Harlem Hold, New York Quarantine Zone

The sirens blared throught the desert city.

"Farraq's!" shouted a man on a tall sheet metal rampart. The ragtag soldiers hurried up on top of the rampart to face a huge wall of Farraq soldiers, large, beastial human mutants from the North.

"Open up!" shouted another man. The Stranded soldiers, used to the Farraq threat, manned their emplaced guns. "Fire!" he yelled as the beasts drew near. The large gun turrets, consisting of a cockpit, an aiming moniter, firing controls, turning levers and two massive 23mm HMG guns blazed to life.\, spraying their deadly deeds across the desert sands into the flesh of the Farraq aggressors.

Some of the Farraq maaged to reach the wall and were met by the Constantina wire and wrought iron spikes sticking out of the rampart. Soldiers with shotguns and SMG's quickly ended the threat and allowed the cleanup crews to move out and pick up the dead bodies. Nothing went to waste, and the Farraq corpses were great fertilizer for the tunnel conservatories.

The next day Qwia calls for her spelljammer ship, a few minutes later the spelljammer known as The Elven Ivory Tower is floating in the sky just above her compound which is just outside of Essembra's Mythal.

The next morning the Elven Ivory Tower arrives at Qwia's best friends home a castle built atop one of two tall fingers of rock near Quebec City. Then after instructing the Captain to wait for her she and Jeremy again take flight, this time down to the towers of the castle below.

Lady Cheeta had almost caught up to her prey near Colorado Springs but they had gotten on an airship and flown away. She knew that even she could not keep up with the airship on foot, so she had signaled one of the Gold Dragon Riders as he flew over her location to see if he could assist her. Because of his assistance she arrived at the cave entrance about an hour behind the prey only to find out that they had disappeared into a cavern pond that was an entrance to the water filled underground caverns. Cheeta hated water so she decided that she would have to find a differant route.

Aboard Star Base One in a high orbit

Admiral Gwendilynne Shultz sat in her office aboard Star Base One looking out over the curvature of the planet below. Today the Great Blue Divide was a thing of beauty to behold because the storms that had been the norm since the tragedy were starting to settle down. This in and of itself was a major turning point for Earth because it meant that the planet was in fact healing itself, but that wasn’t the only good news today. The second part of the two fold good news is that the moon base and starship shipyards is now complete many months ahead of schedule. Now she could start devoting more of her extra time to developing plans for her dream of a orbital city.

Meanwhile at Area 51

“ Aust walk with me while we talk said Nikki. “Ok “ Replied Aust as they left Apatschin & Ko Kosh to talk about family things. Slowly they walked down the corridor towards the mess hall where the others waited and again Nikki spoke. “ Aust please don’t take this the wrong way but our relationship isn’t the only reason I am glad to have found you. You see Star Base One is in need of more engineers and you were one of, if not the best aeronautical engineer of our time. That fact together with your newly acquired skills make you an invaluable asset. I would like to take you to Star Base One to speak to the Commander about reinstating your commission.” Aust wasn’t taken completely by surprise by the request because the possibility had occurred to him since he had found out that the Star Base had survived the tragedy. However he liked living in Myth Essembra and wasn’t sure of how he would be received aboard the Star Base because of his physical changes. Of course he could use his magic to hide his wings and elven ears, but why should he, …. well having good relations with the Star Base would strengthen Essembra’s standing with the other factions he thought, that is a good reason. Suddenly he noticed Nikki looking at him knowingly, he knew she probly had a good idea of what he was thinking as she always could read him. So he said“ Nikki, I have not used that part of my knowledge for many years. I do still have my library so I could hone up so to speak but I have a new life in Myth Essembra. I am a important member of the ruling council there, and I like living there. I am also concerned with my physical appearance, I’m not sure the people living aboard the Star Base would react well towards the new me. But I am willing to use my magic to temporally mask my physical appearance to meet the Commander to discuss the possibilities.” “ Great I’ll make the necessary arrangements!” answered Nikki.

Aboard the Ocean City Platform

Kimberly Vallejo aka Lady Fish had just returned to Ocean City after an extended trip into the upper portions of the Marinas Trench to report her findings. After transforming back to her human hybrid form she was now on her way to the Commanders Office. She could hardly believe what she had found in a cavern on the west wall of the trench. She knew that it had to be the find of a lifetime! The Commander would be so pleased!

Stonehenge Academy of Magic / Kormanthor Valley south of Myth Essembra

Cassae Driiquar found she could not curb her excitement! This summer vacation would be one to remember! She and a group of her friends were going on a trip to the southlands. She had already spoken to her mother about getting a spelljammer for the trip. She had wanted to speak to her father but her mother had said he was away on business at Area 51 and would not be back for sometime. The Spelljammer would be arriving at the Academy tomorrow so she had to get her personal things together for the trip!

Myth Essembra / The Amakiir Home

Nahlrie Driiquar Amakiir had just received a magical message from her husband telling her of his meeting with an old associate from Star Base One at Area 51. He said that he would be extending his trip to include a side trip to the Star Base to meet its Commander concerning a possible new relationship with the Star Base and Myth Essembra. Then just moments afterwards Cassae had contacted her to ask her to make arrangements for a spelljammer that she needed for her summer vacation plans. Cassae had said that she and a group of her friends had a trip to the southlands planned and needed fast transportation. Nahlrie had finally agreed with providing it as long as she was welcome to come along after all in would a while before Aust got home and she had a bad feeling about this trip and even though Cassae was of age she still felt a need to protect her.

Like the professional he was he took a second reading of the sector in question. He couldn't believe it, the reading was valid! His equipment was picking up a alien spacecraft near the Planet Mars and it was on course to Earth! He realized he had to report this so he quickly picked up the hotline to Star Base One ... " Lt. Wandering in the desert

Haruga blinked his eyes, sometimes he wasn't sure how sane he even was any more, which he faintly remembered an old man with a beard, an uncle maybe, telling him that it was a good thing for a sane man to doubt his state of mind, as only mad men never did.

Still, his memories had grown together like a paddock filled with a thousand types of weeds, sometimes he'd wake and expect to see the farm around him, others he'd think to himself how much he missed his raiding partners, Elshaa and Gammon.

sometimes he'd go to wash his face in a river and find himself staring at a face that he didn't remember being his, topaz-eyes tinted with orange, hair that was more scarlet than brown, other times he'd run his tongue over his teeth just to make sure they weren't beginning to get an edge, his cannine teeth were longer than they used to be.

There were times when he'd bath and notice his body feeling a lot more compack and strong, yet it worried him more than soothed him. Hard, lean muscle corded limbs that had been think and weak, yet Haruga sometiems wondered how or why.

Other times he'd be struck by how tall and pale he had become, Suraph, Haruga, both names identified him and yet neither did. He was more, and he was less, Haruga and Suraph both shivered with the realisation he was losing both of himselves to form someone new.

And the south still called him, he didn't know what for, as he trudged through the sun-baked sands and dug himself into dunes to rest at night he'd wonder why he was doing it, yet the next day he'd wake and continue all the same.

Lady Cheeta and the Gold Dragon Rider Andúnë Carnesîr flew north from the cave entrance over the mountains for many hours looking for possible other entrances to the undergound cavern network. Finally on the morning of the next day they had just broken camp which they had made high atop one of the mountains to resume there search when they spied a strange craft emerging from what would otherwise seem an extinct vulcano crater. They had found the secret entrance at last!

Near New York, in the Desert

The three retrofitted vehicles, an armored car, and two F-150s with .50cal MGs on the back, rolled through the bleached desert to one of the water posts. The posts were basically huge drilling wells that raised water up from the aquifers below.

"Hold! Look that way!" yelled the leader of the squad from the top of the armored car. Through his binoculars, he had seen a man walking in the desert by himself. "Head over to him!" the commander shouted as the cars revved their engines and turned towards him.

"Well," said the leader. "We have food, water, and shelter in our stronghold in Old New York. If you stay out here, those damn Farraq might get you. they broke through an oupost last week...got half of the guys inside before one of our King Ravens raked the camp. Luckily the rest of our guys got away while the camp was destroyed by our men...the bastards are getting smarter. We need to kill them, bur the problem is that we don't know where they live. So, like I said, you're better off with us, even if it for only a bit."

"Hey!" shouted a soldier to the leader. "One of our Ravens reported a Farraq movement to the North! We need to go!"

"Glad you made the right choice." said the leader. Haruga had gotten into the Armored Car, the safest choice, and now they were off. They began to drive back to the hold in New York, moving fast through the dark night to avoid any Farraq ambush. They reached the gate and drove in, pulling up to the New York Public Library.

"Here we are," said a soldier in the armored car to Haruga as he opened the hatch allowing the occupants to disembark.

High Above The City of Phoenix

Captain Thomas Westinghouse stood on the bridge of the Aether Cruiser USS Enterprise looking at the City called Phoenix. But now he had just witnessed the same young man sneaking back into the castle through a different entrance and on foot this time. Thomas smiled to himself, because he had always liked figuring out mysteries ….. the trip here might be fun after all.
