The Date of Infamy [Closed, Attn Haven Region]
Midlonia

Benjamin Musotana was nervous to say the least, with a sigh he wrung the handkerchief out before mopping his brow again. Normally a press conference was held in Midlonia twice a week, on a Monday and a Friday, for it to be held on a Sunday was certainly something unusual.
“Welcome to the Date of Infamy.” George Hillcrest muttered in his ear with a slightly theatrical tone.
“Hm.” grunted Benjamin.
“The statement will probably go down fairly well, the way in which the atrocities were broadcast and the sheer simple fact that they’ve become a warmongering rogue state will probably stack the odds in our favour. They’ve been burning a good number of bridges and as such will probably fold under such pressure.”
“What if they don’t? What if they call for allies to turn on us.”
“Then the whole region goes up in flames. But the more likely scenario is only a few will stand against us, that and the strategic plan we have in place to counter anything up to 10 individual Havenic Powers at one time.” Hillcrest replied with a shrug.
“You always say that so casually.” Hissed Benjamin as he mopped his brow again, peeking out of the door to see the reporters and journalists arrive.
“Mostly because I am confident the Commanders can do their jobs. Especially with the latest projects coming online and everything else. A lot of techno babble that makes great sound bites.”
An aide came in quietly and tapped Musotana on the shoulder.
“They’re ready.”
Benjamin nodded and breathed deeply.
Composing himself and smoothing out his suit the Prime Minister walked steadily to the podium, a white silver Dove embossed on the wood itself.
“This is a statement from the peoples of Midlonia, who’s public opinion in the poll a few days ago swayed the definitive decision for me to issue this statement, as you all know we left an open poll to the peoples of the Greater Kingdom, the Commonwealth and others.” he cleared his throat and took a sip from a glass of water as the firing line of camera-bulbs cracked and flashed in their cacophony of light.
“This is a demand from the Greater Kingdom of Midlonia, and associated states that The Grand Imperium of Whyatcia’s Parliament and Cabinet surrender and be tried under international laws for violations of human rights, war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
There were some gasps and murmurs from various journalists nearby.
“I state this clearly in the definition, despite the appointment of a new cabinet and Prime Minister, the parliament is still in power that was in situ during the travesties. As such we demand they be handed over to an independent court of officials from across Haven to be tried for the crimes stated. We have no quarrel with the Monarchy of The Grand Imperium. We request that the Grand Imperium’s Parliament at the very least issue a statement either accepting or denying this demand within a period of 7 days, we feel that this will allow them to debate over the matter for sufficient time to reach their decision.”
“But Mr Musotana, what if they refuse?” blurted a reporter near to the front of the crowd of journalists.
He swallowed hard and nodded. “Then operations will be performed to capture the Whyatican Parliamentary body and arrest them, by any means necessary. Again I stress that this is only aimed at the Parliament themselves, not the Monarchy or the peoples of The Grand Impierum. Thank you I’m afraid I must go.”
For once in their careers the Journalists were stunned into silence. The statement had been made and the first roll of the Die had been cast.
Hillcrest stood up at the podium next and addressed the crowd.
“Any questions?” he asked with his usual smile.

A deafening roar had erupted in the courtyard of the Imperial Palace, where a press release was scheduled. Citizens sported signs such as "FUCK MIDLONIA", and that was the least vulgar of them. Many called for the Emperor to declare war on the Midlonians, and others remained silent, waiting for Paulus to make his declaration.
At last, the doors of the Palace opened, and Paulus came out in regal attire, flanked by Imperial Army soldiers in honour guard uniform. Paulus looked as stoic as ever, looking at his people and mentally preparing himself for this grueling session.
"My friends," he said into the microphone, and a wave of silence permeated through the crowd. He had them fixed..
"We have been wronged once more. Midlonia seeks to kidnap our people, violate the Whyatican nation, create their own hypocrisy to serve their own ends. They blame the mistakes of Parliament, on me, on you. Parliament has made mistakes, grevious errors in judgement that violated the sovereignty of Kahanistan, and for that, I can only offer my apology to the Kahanistani, nothing else. Midlonia seeks to add Whyatica, us to their colonial holdings. I will not hand over a single former member of Parliament, and I will resist Midlonian aggression to my dying breath." the young Emperor said, with a fiery passion that made the crowd erupt in cheers.
He looked out again, staring at the skies, and a patrol of SuF-8 fighters flew overhead.
Paulus waved his arm towards the sky and said, "This is what I will protect, our way of life is in danger once more, and every man, woman, and child must put their all in, even if they must surrender their lives for the greater good. Without this, we will fail, and a free nation is destroyed by the evil of Midlonia."
The crowd erupted in a roar, chanting 'PAU-LUS' and other such patriotic chants, and Paulus raised his fist in the air and yelled, "IF THEY WANT US, THEY MUST GET THROUGH ME!"

Venture Island Naval Base, Whyatica
"Move, god damnit!" a supervisor yelled, trying to push the overworked dockworkers to load the DD-932 in Dock 4 with munitions faster. With Paulus' announcement and the Midlonian ultimatum, the Whyatican naval bases all become overworked all at once, as ships that had not seen home port for years came back to join the Home Fleet and Reserve Fleet in the defence of the Empire. Naval munitions warehouses were suddenly overflowing with weapons as the war industries, which had been pumping out wares for years, suddenly became overbooked, filling up the houses faster than the dockworkers could load ships. Hundreds of ships were being outfitted with any munitions that it could use, outdated or not, activating systems that had thick layers of dust on them from unuse, bringing anything that can be put into use up. The IWNS Renown the inactive supercapital, was being outfitted as quickly as possible, given it's enormous size, and it would join IWNS Hood and, when it arrived, the IWNS Duke of Caladan. That would make approximately three thousand combat ships in the Home and Reserve fleets combined, with two supercapitals immediately available with a third and it's escort fleet on the way, but it was not expected for three weeks yet.
Aircraft in storage were being yanked out of warehouses, fueled, and put on the runways in preparation for scrambling. The mighty SuB-4 strategic bombers were being loaded in their hangars, outfitted with anti-ship missiles, and with others, outfitted with anti-missile missiles or anti-air missiles. This tactic, used first against Kahanistan in the Middle Eastern war, allowed SuB-4s to operate in relative safety, as the massive anti-missile and anti-air capability of a single B-4 was enough to protect the few that were actually bombing for some time. Regular military air patrols, already fairly common over populated areas, became commonplace for all regions of the Mainland, not allowing a single speck of land or sea within the territory of Whyatica to be unprotected.
Troop ship after troop ship was offloading in Miana Harbor, Venture Island, Caladan Island, and Pickett Harbor, as the various divisions forward deployed in the Middle East came home, along with the first brigades from the Arabian Guard, the divisions that had volunteered to defend Whyatica when Paulus issued his mobilization orders.
Imperial Central Command, Miana, Whyatica
"We must comply with the Midlonians, we have no chance at holding them back for long!" a senior officer in the Imperial Army yelled, adding, "Why waste millions of lives for the scum in Parliament? The Midlonians want them, they can have them as far as I am concerned."
"The Emperor has decreed that we will resist, and frankly, I agree with him. If we permit Midlonia to take the Parliament, what is to stop them from demanding Emperor or Empire?" General Donald Dunn shot back. The conversation became more and more heated as more officers added their opinions, and General Raj-Singh of the Middle Eastern wars yelled, "STOP."
Everyone stopped talking and screaming as the senior general calmed himself and stated, "We will fight back. What about the Sovereign League, or as much as I detest it, APOC?"
General Gregory House tapped his cane, and said, "The Endorsians have offered as much materiel as we need, and they have offered to retool their factories to produce ammunition and tanks for us. The Unionists are lending us as many aeroplanes as we will need to defend ourselves. However, it is unlikely we will receive much direct military support."
Singh contemplated that information, and said, "We will directly ask our closest allies for support. The Allied Union, the Sikh Empire, the Silver Sky. Questaria is too far to be of much help, our best estimates have their closest fleets two months off at full speed. I believe that we can drive them into an unprofitable war; they will gain far less than they lose attacking us. We will force them to pay in gallons of blood for every inch of Whyatican land they gain. I will command the troops at the most likely landing spot, which is..?"
"Rose Beach is the most vulnerable. Calm waters, no rocks, Closest naval base is Venture. I would say that that is the ideal place for Midlonia to land." General Dunn said, startled a bit.
"Second best."
"I would say...In one of the northern suburbs of Georgetown, a similar beach but the Midlonians would have a harder time getting through the Whyatican Straits."
"I will command the defence of Rose Beach. General Dunn will command the defence of Georgetown. General House will defend the shores of Miana. General Chase, Pickett Beach. We will know more as the Intelligence Agency brings us more information."
"Aye. " House said, pushing himself up with his cane, heading off to his chambers, thinking up the plans for the defence of Miana Beach.
Everyone else got up and left silently, as Raj-Singh went to the table with Grand Admiral Richard Nixon’s head dominating the discussions..

[OOC: Since I'm now in Haven, I may as well respond to this thread. Consider this a glorified tag.]
Metzuda, Capital of the Protectorate of Kahanistan
Metzuda now looked like a modern city of about two million, although its population was closer to sixty million, as many people still lived in emergency shelters and the like. Few had cars; civil infrastructure was the most important development for now. As a protectorate, Kahanistan also received Midlonian aid, but was still a self-governing state.
Roads between cities were ill-maintained, and travel was minimal. Despite the social upheaval and most of the population owning guns, crime was moderate, as many former Republic Guards became police and used their training to deal with criminals instead of Doomies.
President Khalid bin Abdullah al-Omari walked to the office of his Foreign Minister. He was surprised at how fast the engineers from DMG worked at building the cities. Houses and administrative complexes were nearly completed, and factories produced tons of building materials for new infrastructure almost as fast as the factories themselves were completed, many of which could be seen from the office window.
The Foreign Minister, or the closest thing thereto; she had not been confirmed by the Senate yet and was still Acting Foreign Minister, was a short, somewhat attractive, full-figured woman of about 40 years old, with a constant chip on her shoulder. Her short reddish-brown hair was cut short in such a way that she looked like a lesbian. She had been a Major General in the Imperial Marines until she had alienated her chief supporter by getting him sent to prison for several decades for atrocities in Torontia, and crossed too many other influentials with her attitude, which did not vanish now that she was in a civilian government office.
The Minister nodded to the President as he entered. "You're here about the political situation in Haven?" she asked. "Looks like war's brewing between Whyatica and Midlonia."
"Yes," said al-Omari. "It'll look like we encouraged the war, unless we speak out against it. After all, we certainly have motive to wipe Whyatica off the map."
"I'll get on it," she replied. "I'd rather see Doomingsland wiped off the map, myself..." She opened her laptop to type off a letter, then print and sign it.
Official Announcement from the Free Havenic Republic of Kahanistan
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
http://www.nationstates.net/images/flags/uploads/kahanistan.jpg
The Government of Kahanistan has never blamed the Whyatican people for the actions of Prime Minister McMillin. Much like the German people during the Holocaust, we believe that they were merely enthralled by a charismatic speaker.
No war crimes were committed in Kahanistan by Whyatican forces that we are aware of. While I personally consider the torture and mutilation of prisoners abhorrent, and it is not something the armed forces of Kahanistan would do, we would have settled for the extradition of the torturers, to serve time in a Kahanistanian prison if convicted.
If the Midlonian government is serious about prosecuting war criminals, we would suggest that Emperor Maximus III of Doomingsland be the first tried, for the chemical bombardment of our civilian populations in Najaster to force a surrender.
Signed,
Rachel C. Levitt,
Acting Foreign Minister

“Fortress Ship Henry VI is reporting all reactors online.”
“Fort-Tank Dove’s Wrath is reporting to be in position for transportation.”
“Land Warfare Battle groups 12 and 8 reporting to be in position.”
The reports of movements kept ringing in, a second marshalling area on the Isle of the Manta Ray was underway as the warships of several Midlonian Home fleets and some expeditionary fleets were now being arranged into position. In just 7 days every last piece of Midlonia’s Militarization was proving spectacular.
Air armadas and the main bombing force would operate from the Island whilst most of the removal of the enemies fighting force would be handled mostly by the strengthened Fleet Air Arm and the Anti-Air compliments of the naval vessels until localized superiority was secured. Or the Whyatican fleet scattered sufficiently to result in the ground forces’ arrival.
Attacking the Whatican naval forces would be the First and Fifth Armadas with the Ninth held in reserve.
Around 2,400 warships would attack against a number roughly equal to that in regards to the Whyaticans, however the difference in power was the Fortress ships, and various in-date and indeed up to date equipment. Facing them was the Whyatican fleet which at present was around 3,000 ships, however a number of these were out-of-date but by no means any less dangerous. In theory anyhow.
The main plan of attack was to secure the coastline from hostiles from Venture Island to Venuuci.
How the plan would go however was anybody’s guess. The Midlonians had vaster amounts to call upon when invading than the Whyaticans and Space Unionists had to defend with.
Thus the die was cast as the First Armada, The Golden Bow and the Fortress Ship Henry VI in the centre groups, set sail to find and engage the enemy. The Fifth Armada moved off steadily to hold, engage and destroy any Whatican vessels. The Sixth held itself in port.

Venture Island Naval Base
"Grand Admiral." a lieutenant said, saluting to the disembodied head of Grand Admiral Richard M. Nixon, "The Midlonian fleet has moved out. The Unionists have signalled their support."
"Right." the ghastly voice of the voice box 'said', Nixon's jowls sloshing around. "Fire a warning salvo using the Unity Guns, just ahead of their fleet's current position. If they don't stop, begin bombardment using the shore and ship-based Khan batteries, we'll do as much damage as we humanly can while they're still out of range. The Unity Guns won't have good enough accuracy against the Midlonian fleet." he said again, and the lieutenant saluted and left.
Nixon's little cart scooted around the room randomly, as Nixon thought of defensive plans. He personally disapproved of the invasion of Kahanistan and all the other things the former Prime Minister did in his last days in office - but duty was duty, and Empire came before his personal beliefs. He had approximately 3,000 ships at his disposal - the other 4,000 ships in the Whyatican Navy had to be recalled from missions all across the globe, resulting in the majority of the fleet gathering in the Fyre Sea Fortress before heading back to the homeland to assist in the defense. Individual carrier or battleship groups wouldn't be likely to make a huge difference, but in large numbers, it would definetly help. Also, the Whyatican Navy did have ships that could counter a Midlonian fortress ship - IWNS Renown and IWNS Hood, two supercapitals that, although slightly dated, were still gargantuan combatants and very powerful combat ships.
On Venture Island, protected by several surface-to-air missile batteries and early-generation laser batteries, was the massive Unity Gun fortress, holding fifty of the Empire's 275 Mekugian Unity Guns. Powered by hydrogen instead of the unwieldy nuclear pulses of the ZMI Nuclear Pulse Guns, these guns were capable of massive damage against fixed installations such as ports or shipyards or large-scale defense lines. Against ships or tank columns, though, it's not nearly as effective, albeit still deadly. Today they would be used as a mere warning shot - nearly three hundred 33.3" shells splashing just ahead of the Midlonian fleet to warn them of the power that can be brought to bear against them, and that wasn't including the hundreds of Khan batteries near the shore, or based off of ships.
An eardrum-shattering sound erupted from the fifty Venture Island gun emplacements, calculated so they would land just ahead of the Midlonian Fleet. Through the other gun installations at Caladan Island, Venucci Naval Base, and Ft. George Pickett, this situation was repeated, creating a staggered wave of Unity Gun shells ahead of the Midlonian fleet. Hundreds of naval attack bombers as well as the massive B-4 bombers were outfitted with anti-ship ordinance, as these ships would be the first attack wave against the enemy fleet. Most of the pilots knew there was a fair chance they would not be coming back - the first wave tended to be unlucky like that, but they put their duty first, Empire before self.
Whyatica would stand.
