This thread will house all the OOC posts and the general background information.
The Terrorists:
Overview:
The Imperial Resoration Front has been around since the Shenyangi Civil War in 1974. They are composed of former Imperial soldiers and Imperial Guard special forces troops. They specialize in hit and run guerrilla tactics and the use of IEDs to further their cause. To finance their operations they use kidnapping and ransom. Their leadership structure is almost impossible to track down as they use a highly complex organization structure that isolates each cell from the higher ups in all but voice. Estimates put their numbers as high as 25,000, but these numbers may be wildly inaccurate. Supplementing the former soldiers, and making up the dominant portion of the organization are brainwashed ill-trained grunts, who are drawn from the lowest rungs of society and from neighboring nations as well.
Goals:
Their stated goal is the overthrow of the democratic government of Shenyang and the reinstatment of the descendents of Emperor Falko III. They have defended and hidden the family from government forces, despite the fact that the Shenyangi people at large have no problem allowing these descendents to live amongst the general populace, provided that they do not make trouble, such as the IRF has been since its creation.
Armament:
Despite counter-insurgency and anti-terrorist operations performed by the Shenyang Military High Command the IRF has managed to aquire quite a stockpile of high-tech weapons in addition to the standard weapons of revolutionaries. their weapons are primarilly of Russian manufacture, such as the ubiquitous AK-47 series. In the realm of heavy weapons they fall short in the category associated with armor, but they have a fleet of modified civilian vehicles and maintain the weapons of the Imperial Army from 1974, though how they get parts is anyones guess. They occasionally manage to hijack convoys with Shenyangi military hardware, such as XM-10 and AK-110 assault rifles. They maintain a squadron or so of modified civilian helicopters that are armed with anti-infantry and anti-vehicle weapons. Lastly they have a subtantial stockpile of shoulder-fired weapons, such as RPG-7s and Stinger missiles, thus making them a threat to air support as well. their dominant method of attack, however is via bombings in major cities, since they do not want to arouse the hatred of the Shenyangi people they primarilly target military facilities, but every so often they place weapons on subway trains and other soft targets. Indications say that these are not suicide bombings, but the occasional zealot does kill himself for the cause.
The nation:
Region:
Shenyang is a bit of a geographical and climatic oddity despite the fact that it is in the Southern hemisphere, close to the continent of Australia and its size, approximately 3/4 that of Russia, it still somehow manages to have an Arctic Tundra in the north, close to the equator, a temperate to tropical semi-mountainous central region, and Sahara-esque desert in the south, closer to the Antarctic circle. It borders on the nation of Jipleastan in the south, and is a self-contained island otherwise. Science seems incapable of actually expaining this dramatic climate, but the nation has not suffered due to it.
Demographics:
The nation is demographically diverse, but predominantly caucasian and of eastern European descent, which has flavored much of the nation's culture. The terrorists are predominently composed of those living in the slums of Shenyang's major cities, and this group is microcosm of all the ethnic groups within the nation.
Government:
Shenyang's government has made progress away from being oppressive since its inception after the revolution in 1974. At the moment Shenyang is a regional leader in many sector with an enormous national budget and a focus on defense, law and order, and commerce. The government, while charging rediculous taxes, provides for most of the people's needs. the leaders of the nation, the High Council, are not above sacrificing some freedoms to maintain order, but overall this is an temporary emergency measure that only takes place in times of dire emergency. Progressive social policies have lead to a populace that generally approves of the government, maybe not always agreeing with their choices, but still supporting them in their endeavors, which the government duely rewards in the form of tax breaks, tax cuts, as well as holidays for all workers, except the military who stand ready to defend the nation 24/7/365. The government has a hand in almost all industries, if only in the form of subsidizing the industry and issuing tarriffs to protect it.
The RP:
For this RP I need several nations to join forces with both Shenyang and the IRF. If joining the RP please post which side you will be joining and how you will be supporting that/those side(s). If joining the Shenyangi government and sending soldiers, I must request that you only send up to 12 special forces troops, as this is going to be a relatively low profile operation to rescue one individual, not a massive operation to eliminate the IRF as a whole. If joining the terrorists, please keeps your numbers below 50 soldiers, as you don't want to be particularly obvious about supporting these revolutionaries, doing so would bring down the wrath of the Shenyangi government. I have no cap on the number of nations on each side, however once I declare the RP full, thats it, unless someone drops out.
I will be controlling both the terrorists and my own special forces units.
Please treat these terrorists as threats, not just push overs, while admittedly a large number of them are, the 'soldiers' that operate the K&R operations are mostly veterans, with atleast 4 years of experience in their field, and in fighting the Shenyangi military. I would say that 1 in 3 encounters with these forces would be the 'push over grunts' while the rest are the former military guys. They are quite adept at getting into secured facilities and setting up explosives to cause severe damage. These weapons can be disguised as any manner of object, from water coolers, to fruit crates, even medical supplies aren't off-limits. Expect attacks on where-ever your forces are based if helping the government, whether they come or not will be up to me, of course. If helping the terrorists, airstrikes and ground assaults will be your main threats, though some other surprises may come out. Both sides should be on their toes, you never know what's going to happen next in this little war. Avoiding wholesale destruction of my cities would be appreciated, so no WMDs, and avoid civilan casualties at all costs.
